OA Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Discussion in 'Roleplay Archives' started by Shadow, Sep 24, 2011.

  1. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Scott was finally pulled back with a chilling wind and remained in a frozen state for about 10 minutes straight. That word, that world he was pretty much stuck in made him finally crack like a twig between the fingers of a wrestler. The poor and silent Celafloran man looked disturbed and not in his usual neutral state; eyes had a glimer of fear stamped in them, his mouth was wide open, and his posture- for once, was slumped and carelessly stiff. With a stutter, Scott spoke, "...Home...no here...no here...miss.....h-home.." But despite of that moment of calm silence that followed, Scott snapped back into a protective position and jumped onto the kitchen counter a few feet away and extracted his bows. With a quick motion, he swiftly opened up his scratched up fingers and conjured 4 forest green arrows, placing them between the slight spaces between his fingers.

He yelled out a slur of quick words, and with a quick glance of the man, you can see the stiffness- the fear, the reality of his fate setting in....for he, was about to strike anything he saw as a reaction. Scott then jumped up and fired two shots of energy arrows on the ground wildly. Despite of him having a dead-eye aim, his shots wildly bounced around and off the icey floor and hit everywhere as he shot more and more arrows.

  2. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Bryce drank the tea, feeling the warm soothing liquid slide down his throat. He took a nice gasp after swallowing the tea, attempting to wipe his mouth and barely succeeding. He turned and looked at Kaneli with a smile. "Thanks..." he repeated hoarsely.

Loud noises sounded outside, making him alert and causing him to stiffen, only injuring himself further as his sore and torn muscled ripped more from the tension. He laid back and yelled out painfully, gritting his teeth. His grip tightened on Kaneli's smooth hand, barely any grip at all due to fatigue. He wanted desperately for someone to save him from this pain, this agony, but he knew no one could help him for now.

"Thank you, angel..." he mumbled to Kaneli before the effects of the soothing tea overwhelmed his control on consciousness, and he slipped back into the endless abyss of sleep..

Stu suddenly stood up, meat falling from his face as he watched the man with the bow freak out. This only caused Stu to think that maybe it was a party or something, suddenly yelling out and then running around the rooms over and over. Stu began to shoot vinegar as he screamed random words and phrases that had no correlation to the chaos at hand. Suddenly Stu slammed into the table, causing it to break in half as he flew into the wall, a splatter of vinegar coating the floor.

Stu quickly got up like nothing happened, running back around and screaming and bumping into several people without a care as his full insanity was let loose.

  3. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

With a mighty swing without adverting her gaze from the rampaging Scott, Sharra slammed her weapon into Stu's stomach before he could collide with the wooden table and aid the unfolding chaos caused by the Celafloran. If she could recall correctly, Scott had drawn a planet to everyone before, verdant green hues almost overwhelmingly choking the drawing, and told them it was called "Celaflora", was this the cause of his panic? Sharra flung the probably-unconscious Stu off into the farthest wall possible with her strength while she quickly stood up, tapping the Energy Drive with two of her fingers lightly causing it to glow momentarily before fading to its usual dim light.

"Devis, tie up the idiot again, will you?", she said to him as she shifted her body to avoid being punctured with an arrow Scott had shot. To have such a reserved man to pull a desperate feat of nothing more than flowing fear was something the Trained Sniper definitely did not expect, but he would have to reason with him later.

"Little guy," Sharra said, amethyst gaze fixed on the cornered Celafloran, agilely evading a ricocheting arrow--was that Raw Mana?--by swiftly sidestepping to her left, "Stop before I am forced to harm you." And as those words were spoken, the Trained Sniper, already having her weapon aimed at Scott, pulled the trigger four consecutive times, cracking the walls of frozen blocks adjacent to him with true bullets in loud, echoing bangs. She had missed intentionally as a mere warning to the man, but she would not hesitate to shoot at his body if her unspoken message were to be ignored.

  4. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Scottia haltus! Haltus! A voice radiated in his head with a forceful pound. Like the perfect magic words, Scott lowered his shoulders and remained still stiffly on top of the kitchen counter- his eyes still imprinted with fear.

Even with Scott calming down slightly, his bow remained pointed at Sharra while an oakwood arrow with a curiously pale blue coloured metallic tip slowly glowed with a constant surge of Scott's energy.

    ------------------------------------
"...You....uhm...h-heh.." She whispered with a quiet yet sweet expression while her cheeks blushed slightly. With Bryce's last words, she pulled her hand away and rubbed her eyes slightly as she heard the ruckus outside subsiding.

    Finally, peace.

With the silence seeping into her mind, she laid her head down on top of a nearby table and began to hum herself to sleep. Not ignoring the nightmare's touch, Kaneli hummed a little more and more as she felt a radical wave of macabre visions penetrate her deepest space in her mind and soul.....and a paralyzing chill down her spine......Voices soon called out to her as if it was a simple toying session.

Soon, Kaneli whispered softly, then falling into a nightmare-enduced sleep.

    "...end my misery....oh god why..."

  5. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

(blah, gonna give my character color, I decided as I looked through the posts)

Bryce felt a soothing dream come about, something he'd love to have felt through all that pointless nightmarish suffering. Somehow, he felt it wasn't his mind that was causing most of the pain. At times he felt something, or morelike someone, was purposefully bringing up the images that kept haunting him. The tea was graceful though, creeping him into a blissful paradise...

Stu hit the wall with the slam, completely unconcious. The man mumbled something in his sleep, something of darkness and voices and nightmares, something someone like Stu could never possibly say consiously... but the babbling was gone in moments as he fell from unconsciousness to full sleep, and began snoring loudly.

  6. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

The activity came to a quick halt. The tension in the air could be felt: a sharp, tingling sensation that almost seemed to mute any sound in the shelter, as that first powdering of snow brings. Nositch looked to the alien man. He seemed scared; out of place in this strange world. His green eyes darting around and widened. His bow pointed at Sharra with an arrow knocked. Nositch was reminded of that day so many years ago. The flames repeated themselves in his mind's eye, burning away the presence of the shelter, of all the people surrounding him. Frigiheim melted away and replaced itself with that lone mountain village.

Nositch shook his head, returning the scene to its rightful place. Now was not the time for the reverie of such foul things. Nositch closed his eyes, calming himself down. The silence of the group continued, leaving a tense awkwardness about the situation. Opening his eyes, he looked around at the rest of the group. Nositch smiled, despite the situation. taking a deep breath, he gave a light, almost silent chuckle.

  7. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

"..." Devis let out a groan as he walked toward the the sleeping Stu. He then reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a tiny, silver suitcase with a black button on the back of it. He set the briefcase on the floor, then pressed the black button. Upon the button being pressed, the tiny briefcase shook for several seconds before quickly expanding into a larger version of itself, the button remaining the same size.

He then proceeded to open the suitcase, revealing the contents of it, which included two blue notebooks, an extra set of clothes, and a roll of duct tape. He took the roll of duct tape out of the suitcase, then proceeded to stick some of it onto Stu's mouth and nose to muffle out his snoring. After doing so, he put the roll of duct tape back into his suitcase, then closed it and kicked it towards a corner of the room.

Devis then aimed the eye on the back of his hand at the sleep, muffled Stu. The eye began to glow red for several seconds, afterwards flashing several different colors as chains, rose prickles, and ropes were fired from it. The ropes wrapped around Stu's legs, the chains wrapped around his midsection, and the rose prickles wrapped around his face. Once Stu was completely tied up, the eye stopped flashing, and the stream of rose prickles, chains, and ropes ended. He then proceeded to the corner at which he kicked his suitcase. "Let me know if you want me to throw him outside too, because at the rate he's going, I'm probably going to throw him out eventually."

"If on this voyage I happen to come across intelligent beings, what would be the ideal way to handle that situation without breaking any restrictions?"

"Socialize with them as little as possible. Keep yourself away, and continue on as if you were alone."

    "Understood, Master."

    ---

The chaos seemed to die out as the Sharra woman took action. The seemingly confused boy quieted almost instantly, but still stood quite lethal. Keeping to himself as he had, Fyuren was not fully aware as to the person's situation. However, it was apparent he was in pain. It was quite clear that the man was not native, at least not to here. Fyuren had never even heard any form of language he could discern. He could not help but sympathize with the boy.

Well it's clear then. I shall have to build him a translator. The thought seemed quite serious, but Fyuren wasn't sure about it. He shouldn't even be here let alone helping out. But this man... surely the guild would understand...

As he did with all of his ideas, at least back when he was able to, he pulled a sheet of simple paper from his clothing as well as a pencil and there at the table delved straight into his design.

  9. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Scott lowered his bow completely and bowed his head very slowly, a slight flash of pink filled his cheeks in embarrassment- of course, it was natural due to the embarrassing scene he fired up over Phantasia.

But who wouldn't go ballistic over it? Scott, or rather the man he was substituting for was bound to travel along with the third division Aeroforce to a distant planet and back, nothing mentioning a crash landing and ending up in a cold and desolate planet with a funny name. He realized that there was little he could do to return to his farmland, his home.

His Iriskro.....in the planet of the shining greenlands.

The silent man looked up and reassured himself with a couple of whispered words and regained his straight and serious posture along with his unchanging face- His eyes still, however, remained altered and slightly glowing. Then in an instant, Scott absorbed his arrows and placed his bow and oakwood arrow back where they belonged and ran off to his room.

Nothing said, nothing more. Just a slam of a door was enough to end the confrontation.

  10. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Sharra sighed, relaxing her tense body and shifting her stance as Scott simply fled in an act of embarrassment at the whole particular scene he had caused, one the Trained Sniper hoped she would never have to experience again. Sharra did not believe in an ultimate fate determining the outcome of reality itself, but she had to deeply admit it was more than the work of chance these people, this dysfunctional group she was currently housing, had all ended up in her humble shelter. Now, this would be absolutely no problem to the Trained Sniper under normal circumstances, but unfortunately for her, this would only mean her research on the Boreana Anomaly would be delayed. With a vortex of thoughts flowing chaotically in her mind, Sharra decided to label the day as done after they were done finishing their interrupted dinner. And what a day it was! Words were exchanged, a shuffle of steps heading towards their rooms, and with the extinguishing of the only pyre in the underground home, Sharra's Shelter became illuminated with the soft, dim cyan light of the Ice Mana Crystals. It was time to sleep.

The Boreana Anomaly... Sharra thought as she closed the door to her personal room, or rather, The Nightmares. For this haunting, nocturnal legion of ethereal terror to be halted, a cause must be found first. Her investigation on the matter was inconclusive simply because of the extreme danger they posed. The Nightmares were formless, phantasmal creatures which roamed the remote land of Boreana, uttering nonsensical arranges of broken syllables, dragging every living being they came across with to an unknown beyond, never to be seen again. She placed her weapon in the nearby desk before undressing, changing to a simple, silky white nightgown. Why? This question has been asked all over Phantasia for the past few years, and yet, a clear answer had never come to its aid. It was unsettling. The concept of time was incredibly distant to her at that point, but it did not matter. Subconscious flowed freely within the boundaries of the Trained Sniper's mind as she drifted into the realm of dreams...

    -----~---~---~-----

Pain. A chaotic canvas of swirling hues of macabre red and black covered the firmament, expanding indefinitely until it met the horizon, where everything faded to a deep red radiating pure malice. Sharra struggled to make a movement--any movement, but the agony was unbearable. Not only she felt physical pain, a piercing, pulsating sensation spreading to her entire body, but mental strain, a feeling of utter hopelessness encompassing her very being. A warm, viscous liquid trickled from her chest, and into the ground. A pavement of polished stone which was soon tinted a familiar scarlet as a drop of blood--her own blood--fell. Sharra regained her notion of space and noticed, in the midst of the red pandemonium, she was sitting. Her amethyst gaze trailed upwards to look at her assailant, catching a glimpse of a blade of absolute black firmly stabbed in the middle of her chest. The familiarity grew sickening.

Two focused, red eyes glared at her, devoid of all emotion. White hair flowed harmonically in a nonexistent breeze, a single braid trailing her figure adorned with a single, black ribbon at the end. She distinguished her black outfit, contrasted by lines of a somber shade of pink with a crimson-colored chain going through her skirt. Her Crimson Chain. Sharra opened her mouth to gasp, but her throat was completely dry. Her breathing grew heavier still. The world blurred as the impossibility faced her, and she grasped the sword piercing her with her bare hands. In a nonchalant motion, the girl slid the blade from the Trained Sniper causing blood to spray, tinting her combat outfit, and the stone beneath her.

    "E-E-Espira..." Sharra's throat was a knot. "Why...?"

She continued to look at her, expression unchanging, deathly silent. She masterfully manipulated the black blade, holding it in a specific way--the preparation for a finishing slice. When comparing the absolute beauty of the sword she wielded to the horrible scene unfolding with her, the result was simply paradoxical. Devastating. Her own sister, murdering her?

    Was this... what she deserved?

    "Because you killed me, sister."

The wind was cut with a swift slashing motion.

Flesh tore, muscle severed, bone snapped.

And then it all faded to black.

    ~ Day End ~

  11. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

    ~Day Start~

THE SUN peaked over the horizon slowly as the calm woods echoed with birds and wildlife. The deathly, monstrous Nightmares disappeared slowly into the air, escaping the rays of light dancing across the snow and glistening on the wet, bare trees. The day seemed to be all and well...

...Bryce broke through the silence with a painful screech. He felt the darkness of before creep into his dreams, bringing back the night terrors he desperately wanted to escape. He knew it wasn't his own mind's doing; something dark and evil crept into his thoughts and wickedly changed around his dreams. Now the terror of his home, sucked into the black hole above, constantly repeated itself. His physical pain was amplified, the darkness seething through his blood and making him yell out more. He gripped the bed as he heard a wicked laugh in his mind, a piercing pain tearing through his thoughts of fleeing to consciousness.

You cannot escape my power, Bryce... feel the pain and loss of your brethren, of your homeworld...

The voice cackled as more pain rippled through his mind. Bryce yelled out as tears streamed down his cheeks. No! No! Please!.... I can't take it! Bryce yearned, trying to fight against the darkness. But it was too powerful, easily gripping his mind in a painful grasp and forcing him to relive the death of his race....

Stu opened his eyes to the sound of yelling and agony, looking down at the assortment he was stuck in. He glanced down the hall, pinpointing the source of the yells. Then, his curiosity persisted him forward.

Stu grunted, and suddenly the duct tape was sucked into his mouth, where he chewed and swallowed the silver tape within moments. His body then suddenly began to gleam as Stu miraculously sweated out vinegar, slowly loosening the ropes and chains around him. Stu then began to slowly wriggle forward, the chains and ropes steadily sliding off his body. As soon as his arms were free, he ripped the rose prickles off with a painful yelp before hobbling up onto his feet, his legs wrapped in the ropes and chains.

"Someone call the ghost busters!" Stu yelled out, hopping toward the door steadily, vinegar splashing everywhere with each leap.

  12. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Sister.....under the weight....I still blame you for all this....saurkospec shernde...

Under such dark and chanting whispers. Kaneli began to grip the bedside with her slightly scratched up hands. Empty whispers, all in monotone slowly started to fade away. Until...

Yells of a familiar voice began to resonate inside the girl's head, slowly. Then in an instant, the hammer wielding woman snapped open her hazel eyes and snapped right up as Bryce yelled in agonizing pain.

"B-Bryce?" She stuttered at the surprise, slowly reaching out for his hand and then holding it. "Agh! Please calm down, sir! Please!"

But all of that seemed to be rather useless as far as she saw. Bryce's face was littered in tears and pure pain, and Kaneli simply held his hand and shaked him slightly to wake him up.

    ------------------------------------

Meanwhile in Scott's room, the Silent Celafloran was laying face down on his nice and lofty bed, at peace. The man seemed to be too tired from the culture shock, and slowly murmured words in Celafloran.

Over and over again he murmured and drooled in his deep slumber, but by the yells being heard not too far from his room, his Emerald eyes peaked suddenly and observed.

"Ja..." he yawns. "...Alko....sonotta konos eire kaths....." Scott lifted his head and then began to focus a little more at the ruckus going on, then closed his eyes again and began to drift off into his own sleep, whispering a couple of words,

    "Clauden......Clauden..."

  13. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

    "Yeah, yeah, comin' now."

Sharra slammed the wooden door behind her as she spoke those words, pacing across the underground shelter. She was already in her usual, peculiar battle outfit she always wore, signifying she had either woken up alarmingly earlier than the rest, or simply got little to no rest the night before. Despite having her physical body portray her usual self, it was merely a facade to hide a resurfacing internal conflict which haunted her like the accursed Nightmares haunted this harsh continent. She shoved Stu away, being used to his rather disturbing presence, also ignoring the mess of vinegar he had made in the way, and opened the door leading to Bryce's room.

"What's wrong with him this time?" her question accompanied by an exasperated sigh as her vision darted to Bryce. He... appeared to be suffering.

  14. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

The sunlight crept in through the thin walls of the shelter Solera had found herself in. Opening her eyes, Solera looked around, hoping to find everything that had happened to have been a dream. Unfortunately, she was not in the guard quarters of ithe great city of chronopolis, not with the fellow guards that she knew so well. No, she was inside a tent with two people she talked with for a minute at best. Solera sighed, sitting up and putting her hand to her forehead, bunching over. She took the clock-like axe from the place she had laid it, then crawled out the door into the bitter cold of the realm she found herself in. "By the great Kairos, she mumbled as she met the morning sun, nearly blinding her after a night's sleep, "this place is far too cold. What foul deity could ever dream of this?"

Solera looked around at the snow-capped trees and white carpet of snow on the ground. Grunting in anger at the situation, Solera picked up a chunk of snow, patting it together. It felt cold and powdery, and almost felt as if it was attempting to burn through her hand, even though it could not have been hot enough to do so. As it became hard, she threw it at a tree, where it simply exploded on contact.

Solera missed the land of Kaichrona, she missed the fantastic city of chronopolis where she called home. Now, that all was replaced by a snow-bound land with no settled place in sight. It seemed as though the only other people were the two who still slept inside the tent she had only just come into contact with.

Solera wondered if she would ever find her way back home.
    [hr]
As the morning came in, Nositch awoke to the screams of the young man who had been tormented by nightmares. Worried, he walked to where everyone was gathered. The man's body was tensed, his face scrunched. He seemed to be in extreme agony. "Anything I can do?" Nositch asked, feeling an overwhelming amount of sympathy. Whatever was torturing this man was absolute evil; no person in their right mind would ever do anything like this.

  15. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

"I've never needed sleep in my life, I'm never tired. I often sleep at the time most do, but it means nothing. Can you see any problem?"

"Nothing. Your anatomy appears to be completely human and you have no unknown devices implanted with your brain. It's a mystery to me as well, I'm afraid."

    ---

Fyurendryl sat upon his bed scribbling onto his paper with extremely small and defined marks. Having limited resources, he had to be very conservative with even his papers. The design was a spectacle, a wonder of technology, at least for this world's standards. Compared to home it'd be nothing more than an every-day device. Of course, design was simple, constructing it with the resources at hand was entirely different.

There was a scream of some kind. What time was it? He had lost complete track of time. Pushing himself to a stand, silently slipped through the door, passing by the room containing multiple persons hovering over the injured man. He kept going, straight for the front door. He would need to find that journal soon, then maybe work more on his pelts. He had a busy day ahead of him, something he did not mind. Fyuren pulled the door open and vacated the shelter.

  16. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

The golden aura of the forest spirit trailed across the eternal snow, as if it were a sunbeam itself. The arctic wolves were emerging for the day, and Aniu could easily see them from his vantage point in the air. A wolf or two would glance up at him on occasion, the gold-winged spirit that looked almost as kin to them, but by instinct they knew he was neither packmate nor prey. They disregarded him as he wheeled in the sky, enjoying the sun's light and warmth and promise of temporary rest from the dark beings that emerged when the snow was lit only by stars. Spirit and wolf alike felt relief from the night.

But unlike the wolves, who were setting out across the frozen landscape, presumably to hunt, Aniu still had no way to occupy himself.

He landed atop a tree, its darkly verdant leaves rustling as he stood upon it. Folding his wings and gazing around with his sapphire eyes, he wondered again at what had become of those he'd rescued. He knew they had shelter, he'd seen that himself. Surely they'd be coming out now that the Nightmares had fled in the wake of the sun. He tilted his head, ears cocked- a glimpse of the rare occasion he did act like a true wolf, or rather, the wolflike creature he took the shape of. Unfurling his wings and holding them like some great cape, he dove off of the tree, skimming inches from the ground, an act that would have beem daring had he been alive. And up he rose, gaining altitude for a better view, before heading in the general direction of the shelter he'd seen before.

  17. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Bryce let out another yell, trying to scare away the darkness enroaching his mind, but only in vain. It seemed to fuel it, piercing his very deepest thoughts... Bryce suddenly let out a powerful yell, accompanied with a sudden blast of bright blue energy into the ceiling and creating a huge molten chasm leading up to the surface of the ground above. He fell back, his body rippling with fatigue once more. Why did it not cease?...

His panic was only fueled more as strange yet familiar voices echoed around him. Another hallucination? Or could it be the darkness had found him?... He gripped tightly on the soft, warm hand grasped in his, wanting to be comforted, to make the misery end.... but the night terrors kept coming, one by one, over and over....

Stu fell backward, slamming onto the floor with a thud. He quickly got up onto his hands and knees, shuffling inside almost silently without touching a single leg or foot and crawling into the corner, where he continued his drawing quietly and completely ignoring the obvious occurance in the room.

  18. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Kaneli glanced at Sharra as the worry in her eyes kept growing and growing. Never in her lifetime has she seen a person in such everlasting pain. She shifted slightly and answered Sharra with a slight jump in her voice "Well he just randomly started spazing out!" But Kaneli took a closer look at Bryce as he yelled so horrendously, she noticed something familiar in his look of terror- The same look that she saw much before she met everyone here, much before-

    BANG.

Kaneli snapped back and tried to regain her posture since the force caused her to powerfully shift. She looked up and observed the smoldering hole on the ceiling, her eyes opening wide "What THE HEC-" The woman looked back down and spoke with a slight whine , "Sharra, do something!"

    ------------

A slight shake rattled Scott wide awake from his deep slumber, having the mounted sword of his fellow comrade fall down on the icy floor with a frightening thud. Scott looked up in a snap and shifted his head to the floor. His pale and scratched up fingers, meanwhile, brushed away his blonde hair away from his emerald eyes in which were trying to asses the situation. The quiet man soon arose and took a stretch- In his face you can see a look of slight confusion, yet, a look of slight fear either way.

Could Scott still be hung up about this planet? Or of something else...?

  19. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Energy rippled from the suffering Bryce and into the ceiling, reducing the frozen blocks used to kept the structure stable into vapor and piercing through the harsh earth with incredible power. Sharra watched in awe, mouth agape, before snapping out of this small trance and turning to Nositch, "Yes, dear. Do not let anyone come here." she said harshly, but firmly. The unconscious Crysian, apparently, had been disturbed by the sudden company. She closed the door as she turned to Kaneli, once again, shaking her head negatively,

"I am not capable of aiding Bryce, magic is not my proficiency. Now, is there anything you can do? At this rate Energy Man will simply reduce this place to nothing."

  20. RE: Arc 0 ~ An Aurora in the Night Sky

Behind his ominous mask, Ramiro had his eyes shut in a meditative state behind the shelter, out of the eyeshot of the girl, Solera… however he was still able to clearly hear her as she emerged from the lean-to. The distinct ring of her voice, as he now noticed, was decidedly foreign… albeit to these parts of the world, so was he. Nothing but an outsider, fighting off the abominations of this inverse-Hellish wasteland. All thought of tranquil meditation seemed to melt away as he heard Solera speaking with herself, before something made impact. Ramiro jumped to his feet, scythe in hand immediately with its tip blazing with a ferocious flame. As he rounded the corner, he saw the girl herself, flinging the snow off of the ground into a nearby tree. “The deities of the world are at no fault; they are simply testing those who inhabit their world… and those who will not stray from the path they have let out.” The mask slightly muffled the second half, as it was only a breathed statement, as though he were wary of Solera’s presence in the first place.

The pyre had consumed the entire tip of his scythe, causing sparks to fly as though to underscore his point further with dramatics and magic. His point having been made, he plunged the deadly curve of the weapon into the snow, instantly melting it upon impact. A vicious sizzle of steam rose from the impact zone, causing an ominous mist to develop itself around Ramiro. “Your… Chronopolis, was it? Certainly it had its own share of deities who tasked you with things that you thought once unreasonable. It is all a test - one to separate the weak-willed…” he removed his scythe from the crater of impact and placed it in its carrying case atop his back, “…from the strong of faith.

    ~

From inside the tent, Micayla was roused from her hazy dreams by a combination of Ramiro and a new girl’s voice. The images of the dream were fading rapidly, but she could remember distinctly the call of a voice. A young girl’s voice. One she seemed to recognize, but could not place. She was alone in her dream; a veil of blackness surrounded by the encroaching, whispering demons that surged forth in this barren arctic land. They were out of her sight, though she could hear their babbling in her ears… and beyond that?

    “Micayla… Mikky… Please, stay with me… Don’t… leave.”

The awakening brought her nothing of any sort of clarity. She struggled to remember, but could not, and gave up when her head began to hurt. The images of her dreams were growing less and less clear to her… but she could do nothing of it. Hearing Ramiro speak in an icy tone outside, she thought to herself, Who is it that he could be speaking to…? Immediately, she rose and stepped outside of the small sanctuary. The girl who she saw was very pretty, though she gave off an air of superiority. Micayla was not frightened of her, but instead asked curiously, “And who might you be, miss?
