  4. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Damn. The Madoka rant. I agree though, the ending is actually pretty notorious among tragic anime.

  5. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Am I the only one who didn't cry at Madoka

Like, Wolf's Rain's last few episodes evoked more emotion in me than Madoka.

then again I like kyuubey but

  6. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

I didn't cry at Muddoka either, I was just extremely surprised by it. Now, Anohana and Angel Beats on the other hand... Those just broke me.

  7. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Ah yes, I remember when I first watched Madoka. No, I didn't actually cry or tear up at any point, but like Muddy said it was just extremely surprising. After all, you'd expect the COMPLETE opposite for something of its genre. There's a reason why it's a 10/10 anime in my book.

I haven't watched Anohana, though Angel Beats was pretty meh. Not sure what exactly broke you there.

  8. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Thing is, I know Angel Beats is meh, it was extremely rushed and most of it felt really forced (lolyui) but there was something about main guy's backstory and the ending that got to me

  9. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

I'm dropping by just to say that I've now finished with Natsume Yuujinchou in its entirety and found it to be a brilliant adaptation; Episode 2 still stands as especially moving and something that's surprisingly become a staple in my mental world of moral values to uphold. I recommend it heartily for anyone, really. It's one of those anime that, despite having one or two typical tropes, can be enjoyed by just about anyone in love with the idea of fantastic storytelling.

That said, I'm now going to be entering further into the world of the fantastical as far as anime movies are going by introducing myself (finally) to the works of Kon. Where should I start? Most people are saying I should go first with either Paprika or Tokyo Godfathers.

  10. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Wolf Children are amazing anime movies, especially the latter. I'm not that well-versed in anime movies but Tokyo Godfathers is supposed to be pretty good, I've been planning on watching it for a while now. Redline too. Redline interests me so much.

You know what, fuck it. I'm watching those two tomorrow.

  11. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Marathon-ing Inuyasha at the present time. Feeling the nostalgia.

  12. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

If you want to watch something that'll fuck you up, watch Jin-Roh, the Wolf Brigade. It's the kind of movie your psychology professor would give you an assignment over.

  13. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Watched Redline and Tokyo Godfathers. Can confirm that they're both amazing.

  14. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

    So I'm watching Zvezda
    I'm on Episode 8
and I have literally no idea what this anime is anymore.

  15. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

    roboko best girl

  16. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

So this season of Durarara is absolutely insane, and makes me slightly worried for Narita's mental health.

  17. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

First Impressions of this anime season: (Will be edited with each new show)  Note: Scores are my own impressions on how I think the show will turn out based on the first episode.

Comet Lucifer: The OP suggests that this is a TTGL-wannabe, but it's surprisingly really good so far.  The background art is absolutely wonderful, the plot seems rather wacky so far, and the sound is absolutely on point.  Not just the music, either.  The sound effects too.  If for no other reason, watch it for this. 7/10.

Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou: This feels less like an anime and more like modern art.  With an art style I can only describe as "pop art," it actually looks really cool.  The show itself is pretty interesting.  Taking steps from Power Rangers, Magical Girl shows, throw in some FLCL, and put it all together with the art style I mentioned, and you get something which is certainly unique. 8/10

Gakuen Toshi Asterisk: It's a Magical School Battle Harem.  With a futuristic setting.  Need I say more? 4/10

Garo: Guren no Tsuki: Another chapter in the Garo franchise, and as usual, it seems pretty great.  I don't really like it as much so far as the first anime, but it's still got a lot of promise.  As a plus, it's completely standalone, meaning that you don't have to watch the previous anime or the tokusatsu in order to watch this. This is a series I think almost everyone should watch. 7/10

Hacka Doll the Animation: While not by Trigger, from what I understand, they are helping with the animation here.  And it's still enough to make me go "god dammit trigger."  Is it good? I don't really know, and I don't think I will ever know.  Long and short of it is "It's as if Google became a waifu and reminded you about your weird internet searches all the time."  Can't score

Heavy Object: Set in a future where war is no longer an affair with thousands or milions of soldiers on the lines, and just groups of incredibly OP war machines, this anime is so far givig somewhat of a Metal Gear-ish vibe.  I quite liked the first episode, to be honest, though I've seen a lot of people that didn't. 7/10

High School Star Musical: A boys-only music high school anime.  There'll probably be at least hints of Yaoi, but the show is just so hilariously cringey that I can't help but love it.  And yes, it is definitely a musical. 5/10

JK Meshi!: Three high school girls banter with each other and there seems to be a cooking focus?  idk, it's just a short.  Trash. 3/10

K: Return of Kings: One of my favorite anime series is back, and just as good in my opinion as it's always been.  Top-notch animation and music, plus an interesting world.  Sure the characters don't get as much development as could be desired, but man, this anime is so pretty.  If you want to watch it, remember that you have to watch the previous season plus the movie first. 9/10

Kagewani: A horror short that seems to focus on one of my favorite sections of "paranormal" stuff: Cryptids.  That said, it seems the MC is some special snowflake mutant/hybrid/whatever and that really puts me off.  Plus the animation style is not my cup of tea.  I'll be giving it three episodes, though. 5/10

Komori-San wa Kotowarenai: aka Komori-san Can't Decline: Short about a girl who can't say no when people ask her to do something.  It's actually pretty sweet so far, in my opinion. 5/10

Kowabon: Another horror short.  This one seems like it'll be episodic, each episode with different characters and different things happening.  Or at least that's my impression from the first episode. 5/10

Lance N'Masques: Harem trash, but for some reason, I'm absolutely loving it, and I don't know why. 4/10

Lupin III (2015): While I haven't watched any other Lupin III series, this is really good, and exactly what I'd expect from a show with such a good standing. 7/10

One Punch Man: The show that's probably gotten the most hype prior to the season, it's definitely going to be a front-runner. It's got great animation, it's hilarious, and just really, really cool. 8/10

Onsen Yousei Hakone-Chan: A short about the girl spirit of an onsen (hot spring public bath).  Really cute so far. 6/10

Osomatsu-san: Not much I can say without spoiling it.  It's a revival/reimagining/sorta-sequel to a really old manga/anime.  It's also going to be anime of the season.  And I say that with K and One Punch Man giving it competition. 10/10

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry: Another Magical School Battle Harem.  The saving grace of this one, however, is that it's lampshading everything it does at the speed of light. 4/10

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru: aka Beautiful Bones: A mystery anime with a strong (character-wise} female adult main character.  She really likes bones. Like.  Collects them and everything.  And because she picked up things from her forensics expert uncle, she's kind of got a whole detective thing going on, but she does it mostly for her own interests.  It's actually gave a really good first impression so far, and I would totally suggest for people to watch it. 8/10

Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou: A parody of Attack on Titan with all the characters in middle school and there's a rivalry between the human middle school and the titan middle school.  I haven't watched the original Attack on Titan, but this show is absolutely hilarious. Can't score

Shinmai Maou no Testament Burst: Picking right up from the first season, this is probably going to be the best harem this season.  Promises to be just as ecchi and hilarious as before. 5/10.

Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider: I fell in love with this anime immediately.  It starts out with some great classical music, then goes straight into some absolutely perfect character interaction.  This is probably the anime I'm most interested in this season, and really suggest others to start it up. 8/10

Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai: Military battle school harem. 5/10

Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note: Kinda seems like it'll be a bit of a Detective Conan meets Nancy Drew type thing, but not as good as either.  Meh. 4/10

Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen: While this is a sequel to another series, I've been led to believe that you don't need to watch the other series to understand what's going on here.  So far, anyway, it seems pretty interesting.  Guy wakes up in the middle of a forest, and ends up being found by a girl with animal ears and tail, which seems to be the dominant species in the area.  They go through a few misadventures through the episode, and it just seems like it'll actually be pretty good.  I know the original show was well-received, so yeah. 7/10

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid: Yuri porno Soul Eater.  Can't score.

Young Black Jack: A prequel to a manga and anime originally made by Osamu Tezuka, it takes a really neat approach to medical stuff.  It managed to make a surgery to reattach a boy's arm really interesting, despite showing no gore throughout the surgery.  Would totally recommend. 8/10

  18. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

    This week's OPM was great.

Thanks for accidentally punching your way to a standby screen, Saitama.

  19. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

OPM ended way too quickly. Those 20 minutes felt like 5. Goddamn.

  20. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

So, in Valkyrie Drive. Only male in the show is voiced by a girl mimicking a guy's voice.

God dammit. I sat there losing it for a good 30 seconds.
