My Anime Academia (aka the Anime Thread)

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by The Kakuzato, Dec 2, 2013.

  1. RE: The General Anime Thread (Too Lazy to Think of a Good Subtitle)

Reviving this thread because I just watched an amazing anime movie called Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror. When it first started with the actual story, and I saw that it looked like it was going to be an awkward CG animation, I was a little off-put, but the visuals quickly became stunning.

Now, I would definitely say that this is a movie targeted at children. That said, however, it is incredibly good. Not "good for a kids' movie," but legitimately very, very good. I'd go so far as to say that it competes with anything even Studio Ghibli has made. I absolutely adored it from the beginning to the end, and it takes a firm place on my "required anime watching" list.

This movie might even be what gets me into writing reviews. I'll probably get to that sometime today.

So much hype for Unlimited Blade Works.

I am the bane of my ZEJ.
Autism is my body and gay is my blood.
I have created over thousand chatlogs
    Unknown to Acanthite
    Nor known to Magnolia.
My keyboard has withstood pain to create many An Things
Yet those An Things will never be relevant.
    SO AS I SLWOL
    UNLIMITED COE WORKS

    This made my day.

The first episode of UBW can be summarized in one word:

    HELLO

  6. RE: The General Anime Thread (Too Lazy to Think of a Good Subtitle)

    Based ufotable.

  7. RE: The General Anime Thread (Unlimited Thread Works)

    quoted and edited for relevance

EDIT: it works best with "Ethanol" instead of "CoE"

  8. RE: The General Anime Thread (Unlimited Thread Works)

    I smiled at that, Espy.

I'm trying to get into F/Z but failing.

  9. RE: The General Anime Thread (Unlimited Thread Works)

Which reminds me, I could probably read F/Zero or something. I might.

[Chatlogs probably works better than jokes, though—I was pointing to the fact that the Chatlog Thread gets a tonne of traffic, but probably I'm the only one who even reads every single chatlog.]

    [also bane was intentional]

No I think most of the IRC-goers read the chatlogs, and "bone" just flows better.

Also I would watch F/Z rather than read it, although I don't know how good the light novel(?) is compared to the anime.

  11. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

Sooo I just watched the first episode of Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu!! and...

Why is something this bad so fucking good. I already rated it 4/10 on MAL. Yet... I absolutely love it. Anime of the Season, anime of the year... You know what, anime of all fucking time.

  12. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

This deserves a -10/10 to accurately reflect how it's so fucking terrible and yet manages to be inexplicably hilarious.

    @Shadow

I'm watching episode 4 of Inou-Battle. I'm sure you know why I'm posting this picture.

One of my local friends was just introduced to Death Note, which is the first anime he's ever actually liked. Going to get him assimilated further with Studio Ghibli whenever I get the chance to tell him about it. Any other anime you would recommend for a solid story with a charm and/or edge that isn't stereotypical in its OTT-ness?

  16. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

    Fate/Zero.
Assuming you've already got Madoka in mind.
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (currently ongoing)
    Wolf's Rain is also decent.

  17. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

I'd say Ghost in the Shell, but I always try to get people to watch that.

  18. RE: Unlimited Anime Works (aka the Anime Thread)

I just finished Cowboy Bebop, which is older but pretty good. Similar to Firefly in genre. But with sadder and darker backstory. But still entertaining.

Other than that... I'm not sure if I'm the best person to ask, I watch weird anime that's all over the place in genre. If he likes murder mysteries, Dangan Ronpa: The Animation is pretty entertaining if he doesn't want to get too attached to anyone.

@"Jonno"; Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It is not very recent, but hell if it is not one of the best animé I know.
