  1. We don't have to spin this album. It's just very hard to find a place for this. I'm listening to it now- WHRO called and wants its background music back, and one of these songs seems like something I would hear in the end of an anime. Not in a good way. It's hard to find a place for this one with our context, especially when it was such a disappointing album. I'm trying to justify it like it was a My Immortal-like joke, but... that's hard to do.

The whole Lumineers album is really good. I'm going to make sure that gets played though. Even if it wasn't serviced. Fuck off.

That's so cute about your grandma- give her a hug.

You should love Animal Collective. Critics may not have liked Painting With but dammit, I did. Fuck you, Pitchfork.

  2. Hey, have you guys seen the musical guests on the Late Show these last few weeks? Because they've been actually pretty esoteric/awesome. I mean, the last three guests were Funkadelic, Explosions in the Sky, and Autolux? In the same week?? What the hell??? (Although to be fair I'm not too into the new Autolux album yet. Maybe another listen will fix that?)

And of course, the week before that they had on the best musician on the 21st century:

  3. Just had to punch ice out of the windows of my car.  Hi April in Canada

  4. @Kamantha - I absolutely adore Esperanza Spalding. Extremely talented musician, level-minded lyricist, and an incredibly varied and fantastic artist on the all-around. I haven't kept up with much of the Late Show lately (bad-dum-tish), but have seen several of the acts that have been on lately like Esperanza Spalding, Lake Street Dive, Lucinda Williams, etc. Looks like I'll have some further catching up to do with the other artists you'd mentioned. Good times ahead!

@whitesubtitlesoncanadianwinter - We just came out of a singular, random day of 45 degrees with heavy rain (to the point of there being thunder and lightning) that was absolutely impeccable. But, then again, it's mostly been an agreeable ~70 here with a light breeze, most days. Go figure. Go Canada! :5

My friends just released a new single that's the first from off of their upcoming EP. Check it out.

  5. Been day dreaming about taking a nap since starting work at 8.  It's going to be a great day.

  6. So today - I shit you not - I had to design tickets for a juggalo concert (Insane Clown Posse no less)

    http://puu.sh/ogh64/3f28bc12d7.jpg

luckily they weren't as cursed as the last time i had to make juggalo tickets.
had to make juggalo tickets. computer keeps freezing, REFUSES to open the file. computer crashes multiple times. finally get the file open and completed. time to print. printer decides to fuck up, printing all over the place, my margins are fucked. suddenly the cutting mechanism goes off the deep end and next thing i know the printer is spewing ticket confetti. several hours and a few thousand tickets later i finally have enough half-decent tickets to call it a day. i have literally never had any problems remotely like this before or after the juggalo tickets. clear proof that god is dead and we killed him

    http://puu.sh/ogkiM/5e9c6160df.png
juggalos. juggalos everywhere. (a small portion of the reject shit tickets)
tho this time it took me a solid 20 minutes and multiple failed attempts at downloading the zip file with the proper media (i never have problems like this at any other time)
ticket file is good. time to test print. it immediately fucks up.

look at the fucking margin on this: http://puu.sh/ogh66/8eaaddde66.jpg
good news is there is no ticket confetti this time!! rejoice.
after fucking around with the printer it randomly decides to print properly and yay! mission successful and i wasnt struck down by lightening or anything.

admittedly homestuck made this even weirder lmao (opened my emails this morning and was immediately reminded of webcomics past, "oh these fuckers")

TLDR; anyway heres my hella long and rambling post about cursed fucking juggalo tickets.
i think the weirdest thing is ive literally never seen a juggalo here in canada??????? like ithought this was an exclusively american thing????? yet htis event is one of the top 3 selling events this week so idk????

  7. Tonight in DnD was basically stealth mission.

Party: Kane (Orc? Druid-Paladin), Dirk (Human Fighter), Hunter (Minotaur Fighter), Zander (Shapeshifter Assassin), Ratliff (Dwarf Fighter), Lorelai (Human Fighter), the Doctor (Human Cleric), Dritz (Drow Fighter), Shii-Ra (Argonian Assassin), Thorn (Shii-Ra's pet Pseudodragon), Jason (Shapeshifter Ranger), Brother Oswald (Human Monk). We also had four characters sit out because the player wasn't here; Aurum (Kinder Illusionist), Lance (Aurum's Weretiger), Arya (Elf Mage), and Indigo (Centaur Cleric).

Situation: Our party sneaked into a Giant fortress. Last week we did some exploring and our Shapeshifters turned into snakes and poisoned the two guards. The party was rather spread out across the fortress, we'd killed some giants here and there.

    This week:
-- Another guard comes down, drunk, is poisoned by Jason, gets a concussion from Ratliff, falls over while trying to swat Jason off, and finally dies when Ratliff swings a hammer into his balls.
-- Terry's characters (Kane Dirk Hunter) go accidentally wake up a couple of sleeping giants and eventually kill them.
-- The Doctor unleashes a Flame Strike into a room of 12 teenaged giants and kills them all, setting the /wooden room/ on fire in the process.
-- Jason as a wolf attempts to ding dong ditch the main room of giants with no success
-- Shii-Ra and Thorn go stealth mission incarnate- Shii-Ra tries to distract the cooks by making noise at the kitchen door while Thorn attempts to poison the food. This works surprisingly well and because Shii-Ra is under a cloak of darkness and is using his claws to gouge the wood in the hallway, half the kitchen staff think the place is fucking haunted.

  8. I laughed harder at the term ding dong ditch than I should have.

  9. @Skolli - How interesting! I didn't know that your job employs ticket design skills. That's pretty cool. @Eebit had mentioned in passing a couple nights ago that it was quite the journey through the flames of hell to get it all done, and I've gotta say that yoou did up the tickets for them juggaloes pretty well. :5 The Insane Clown Posse, at that! Them's some first-rate, top-of-the-line, juggalo-originators, right there. Haha.

  10. I'm now working as the first North America-based editor at For Folk's Sake, and never quite shared an article from the site. Here's live coverage from Haley, one of our writers, in the first gig that I'd helped establish coverage for on behalf of FFS, and for those into communal hippie music that breaks the barrier on levels of drugged up which transcend the universe, here's my latest album review of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' PersonA. One of my other writers, Drew, recently covered one of their shows for the site, as well.

  11. lmao my parents trying to hand off who is going to give my brother the sex talk

  12. LOL NO WAY

That's amazing. I can't wait to hear this story.

  14. So the Liberals announced that they're going to introduce marijuana legislation next spring today...

    on 4/20. Well fucking played.

Who wants to be it'll be exactly one year to the day when the legislation is introduced?

  15. In this moment, I feel like no better political move has been made in the history of the world.

  16. "Are you going goth?" -my grandfather 2k16

  17. LOL

Also, re: Dark and politics. Fun political exchange between myself and someone on the clear other side of the spectrum today. Let me recount the harrowing tale, as already told to Britt and Flamezone.

Speaking of politics, I just did something I maybe shouldn't have but it was wonderfully cathartic. :p

I posted some promotional stuff for the next Ronstadt Generations (my friends; they are half-Mexican and half-German and have a long history in this city) show in town, and some douche says something along the lines of "You mean that illegal immigrant who was with jerky brown!! Screw her!" in relation to Linda Ronstadt and when she'd dated Democratic California Governor Jerry Brown. Recall that this is all in a public forum meant for advertising events, and this guy himself who is bagging me is another musician.

Obviously a close-minded "conservative," I decided to send him this message before blocking him:

Eric, I'm glad to see that you are a consummate professional in your industry. I wish you only the best moving forward with your open, accepting attitude towards people of all walks of life, such as historical musical families as the Ronstadts who help in representing the long-standing fact that the United States of America is a melting pot of immigrants, or in your clear acceptance of finding compromise with liberal policies and the idea that this is a country where we can thrive and befriend one another as fellow Americans despite some of our vast political differences. Gotta love those Ronstadts. :) #FeeltheBern

    Good times.

  18. Typical conservative. Someone brings up a person or thing that's even remotely liberal and they throw their common sense out the window and into a pit of lava.

And yeah, people were splitting hairs over the fact that Bill Blair and Health Minister Jane Philpott announced it to the UN in a public meeting and not in a government press conference in Ottawa, but given it got everyone talking about it, didn't they end up accomplishing the same thing anyway?

  19. Implying that they had common sense to begin with. There are relatively few objectively good Republicans these days; let's forgo politics for a second entirely and just judge these people based on character. The heads of the party today certainly aren't any Lincoln, Teddy, Ike, Ford, or Reagan - let alone even Bush, and that's saying something. Monkey see monkey do - and these monkeys are seeing a bunch of people like Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz leading their party. Unfortunately, I guess they're happy enough buying into the bullshit and trying to be just like them. O dearest Eric, forgive me for my sins. :5

Re: 4/20 legislation announcement - All the same, it got people talking. Not a big deal at all, in my opinion. People will nitpick everything, really. It's embarrassing.

  20. Came across it in my "collaborative notes" while studying for my next final -- I need to remember to use "NB" more in my own notes. I don't know why, but I just really like the notation lol
