"My, we already have them on the run," Nara said with a grin as she watched the completely disabled paladin run for the hills. She pursued him coldly and skidded to a halt in front of him, a look of fear upon his once brave visage. She cut him an evil glare and jammed her dagger deep inside his chest, though when she went to rip a horrid gash in him, the thing refused and she tore it out quickly with a grimace.

With the way the group was attacking now, the battle would not last too much longer. The once mighty paladins were proving to be nothing but fodder beneath the combination of blades and magic. She bowed her head and chanted a slight healing spell to mend the wounds of the nearby parasol-wielder while extending the spell towards Alexandra as well. No one was sustaining heavy injuries at this rate. A soft smile crept upon her face. She couldn't help but think of it as a relief, not to mention she knew that this particular mission was in good hands.

"Glad we're all on the same page," Kat stated, raising her bow for once and aiming it at the paladin that was assaulting Alexandra. A shaft of mana formed, and Kat pulled it back as if there were a string attached to her bow. At the tip of the shaft, an arrow head formed from the same mana as the shaft and began to rotate quickly, almost like a power drill. She continued to pull back until it looked like there was some sort of strain which was odd because there was no string. Her fingers let go of the arrow, and to great surprise, the thing soared through the air with great force, embedding itself easily within the paladin she had been aiming at before dissipating completely.

Alexandra turned swiftly and slashed at the immensely weakened paladin next to her, ending him easily with his halted condition. "Well, that's one down. Let's keep the pace up and we'll able to move on," she said, slightly cheery. She knew the mission was an important one; a lot rested on what they were attempting to do this night. She took a step back from the healthier paladin that had slashed at her with his sword. Her dress was torn and she was bleeding, but Nerra's spell helped to alleviate some of the pain. She had to make room for the others to get in and attack as well.

Nara licked her lips as the persistent paladin intent on escape continued to run. She always did love a good chase. In a flash she was upon him again. "You really think you'll get away?" she said to the large armored man cockily. Her hands were blurs as they set about slashing away at him, trying to strike in all the right places. For someone entrusting these guys with their life, they did a rather poor job of choosing the right guards for the job. She was a tad disappointed, and secretly hoped the magistrate would prove to be more challenging. Rumor has it he can hold his own in battle, but we'll be the judges of that.

The group of would-be assassins were holding up quite well against the rather paltry paladins. It gave her a brief reprieve to regain a bit of her lost mana. It would definitely be difficult without her sister and the newcomer, Kat. The girl was beautiful, and powerful to boot. Enigmatic. Mysterious. She had appeared out of nowhere. I wonder where she came from..., the young white mage thought as she gripped her staff a bit more tightly. There was no doubt in her mind that the others were curious to find out as well.

"Damn, that actually kind of hurt," Kat cursed and cringed as the paladin swept at her with his enormous blade. She looked around, seeking to get distance between her and him as quickly as possible. To her right was an opening, so she took it, leaping back and turning slightly, a ball of flame starting to form in her hand while her other hand held her bow out of the way. "Let's see how you like this!" she growled and tossed the well-formed fireball towards the paladin at great speed. It swerved through the air, striking the man hard in the chest leaving a large scorch mark in his armor as the sheer force caused him to stumble.

After successfully finishing off one of the paladins, she turned on her heel in time to see one of the others attacking Kat. The self-proclaimed arcanist didn't seem to be backing out of the fight, and instead retaliated with more powerful magic. "Looks like the girl can really take care of herself. One less thing we have to worry about," the noble chimed as she jabbed at the paladin with her rapier. Normally, it wouldn't be able to make a scratch, but with the added strength she had gained, she found herself able to pierce farther than she ever would have imagined without it. Nara seemed to have rectified that problem for herself with plenty of practice. It really came in handy.

Nara pursued her target mercilessly. The fellow was looking way worse for wear; he didn't have much fight in him, even though he hadn't really done anything. It didn't have to do with his stamina as much as his willpower. "Looks like we're done here," the assassin stated simply as her daggers became blurs, her hands expertly wielding the light weapons with great ease, striking at the paladin's most vulnerable spots. She was confident that it would be the end for him. As for the other, he didn't look too good either. He looked sick, not to mention the scorch marks on his skin looked rather nasty. He wouldn't be standing for long.

Gently tapping the butt of her staff to the ground, Nerra's grip around it tightly. She took in a deep breath. Her part in the skirmish had been miniscule, for the paladins proved to be hardly a threat at all. As they infiltrated the courtroom, there was no guarantee that things would remain as easy. Oh, life hardly ever gives us such blessings, but its always nice to think that things will go all right, the young girl thought whimsically and smiled a gentle smile.

Another swarm of flames began to appear in Kat's hand as she turned about and hurled a curve ball towards the paladin directly ahead of her. The flaming sphere surged through the air with great speed and crashed into the doomed fellow with great force. Her aim was definitely true. That brings us closer to getting inside, even though I know he's not in there. Something tells me that keeping with these people will lead me to him though. I know it, the arcanist thought as she tucked her bow away, the battle more than complete. She felt at ease, as if there were no other presences around. Gently, she placed a hand discretely over her heart as she seemed to take a breather, lost in thought and regaining her mana.

The paladins were finished. Nara went around, checking their corpses to make sure they weren't going to get back up and cause trouble. After judging that they were no longer any threat, she stowed away her daggers for later usage on their actual target. She walked over and took her sister by the shoulders, startling the young girl, for her eyes were closed. Nerra smiled as she realized it was her sister and smiled evoking somewhat of a gentle smile from Nara as well, something she didn't do very often. Not genuinely. Sure, she gave her victims sadistic grins as she cornered and destroyed them, but those didn't count. The look on her face now was nothing like that, even after having killed the paladins. No one seemed to particularly perturbed by the ordeal. The guys had gotten in the way and thus were eliminated as was the mission. It was something the twin sisters were extremely used to, for they were trained assassins. But what about the Kat character? Nara still wasn't worried about her mysterious appearance, even now. She had been useful as hell in the fight, and she didn't seem threatening. For now, she just stuck with telling Nerra some details.

No one noticed Loresai vanish into the shadows. There was no telling what had crossed the vampire's mind. Had the assassination idea become too much for her? It didn't seem likely. Or perhaps there was something of great importance she had to take care of? The only way the group would know would be if the vampire returned at some point to explain herself...or maybe they would never see here again...

Alexandra doubled over and let out a large sigh of relief. Despite having a descent constitution, handling the attack of the paladins with relative ease, it still hurt. A lot. The healing was a great relief and pleasure, but no one wants to go around getting struck by giant swords. "I have to say, I never saw myself doing something like this. Just a few days ago, I nearly never had a use for this thing," she commented, finally standing up straight as she caught her breath, waving her blue saber around haphazardly.

Snapping out of her reverie, Kat joined the others, her steps calculated. She had already stowed away her own weapon, the stringless bow proven to catalyze her magic. She pointed at Alexandra's waving saber with a rather hard glare aimed at the noble. "I'd stop waving that thing around if I were you. Don't want to poke someone's eye out, hm?" Kat tried to keep her voice light. The noble seemed to be a bit of a ditz, and this was just a first impression. Then again, most nobles appeared to be rather naive. They boasted irrelevant knowledge of nothing in order to claim superiority over others. The idea in and of itself was plainly idiotic. She sighed and put a hand on her hip, shaking her head.

A blush crossed Alexandra's face as she sheathed her saber sheepishly. "S-sorry about that..."

 

Alexandra smiled at Helena. Seemed she wasn't too bothered by the dangerous waving about of her weapon, though Kat had a good point. She had to be a bit more careful. As for the arcanist, she turned and faced the woman who had addressed her. The archer was interested in her own weapon. Taking the crimson bow out for the woman to see, Kat ran a finger across the wood. "I told you I am an arcanist by profession. This bow without a string is merely a conductor for my mana. You know how most spellcasters use staffs for conducting their mana? Well, the bow works the same way. I can cast my spells just as easily as they can, if not even more easily with this bow. Any projectile based spells tend to have more accuracy and force because of the utilization of the bow. Waving a giant stick around doesn't seem to accomplish the same goal, if you know what I mean," Kat explained with a laugh at the end. She let the arm holding the bow rest gently at her side while she gazed into Helena's eyes. "As for why I'm here, it's because I'm looking for someone. I think I mentioned that. He's in this city somewhere. I thought I'd try in here, though I have my doubts." It seemed that she couldn't keep the nonchalance upon her visage forever. She enjoyed the idle chatter, but when it came to explaining herself, it brought back the memories and the true purpose of her quest.

"What's wrong?" Alexandra inquired softly, seeing the sadness on Kat's face. It was rather evident now, especially when she had been so casual just a moment before. In her mind, she figured there was more to Kat than met the eye.

"The person I'm looking for? He's a good friend of mine. We used to live in Restocasia together. His name is Lucian," she explained. "He....he means a lot to me. When he left the city, I became extremely worried. There were some thoughts going through his mind...thoughts that no one should think. Dark things. I didn't want him to have to face such things alone, and yet he disappeared without a trace. I tracked him as best I could and wound up here, but I haven't seen him yet." Curses flew through her mind as she felt her eyes grow watery. The sting of Lucian's departure was still fresh in her heart. It made her hurt more than anything she had experienced in her life. Just knowing he was around somewhere in Archaea gave her hope--hope to continue onwards. She would find him no matter what. A certain defiance crept into her gaze and she wiped her eyes. "Does that satisfy your curiosity? I would think you could use all the help you could get."

 

Kat shook her head and tried to sound reassuring. "No, there's no need to apologize. It is something I must learn to deal with, not to mention I'll feel a lot better when I can find him and know that he's all right," she replied. She took note that Helena's mood had dampened tremendously, but didn't think anything of it. The arcanist knew her story was a sad one, but it seemed to mean something more for her fellow bow-wielder. But she was right. She wouldn't pry even if there was time for it. They had to get a move on. She was almost one hundred percent sure Lucian wasn't in the building, but that wasn't about to stop her from aiding her new allies with everything she had.

"Well, let's get this over with," Nara stated tersely seeing as how the others were ready to move on. Nara moved over to the door only to find it locked. "Fuck." She scavenged the bodies of the paladins looking for a key, but found nothing. Taking out one of her daggers, Joint Breaker, she moved to the door and inserted the very tip of it into the keyhole. After about a minute of careful precision turning and jiggling, the lock could be heard becoming undone, and Nara opened the door with ease, ushering everyone inside. Lightly treading on the smooth tile floor, Nara looked in disgust at the ebony walls, large columns built into them and evenly spaced with tints of gold here and there. Not her favorite decor to be sure. They were making the straight shot as Nigel had said, but they noticed that the courtroom doors were wide open, and there standing within were two people talking. Nara motioned for everyone to get on either side of the doors so they wouldn't be noticed and could eavesdrop.

The man, extremely well-built wearing long black judge's robes, seemed to be rather irritated at something. He held a large hammer in one hand with a shield strapped to the opposite arm. "And what if they're actually successful? You said you hadn't seen who comes out as victor."

He, who had to have been Allera, was speaking to a woman who was taller than him with a very lithe sultry figure. She wore white robes with golden streaks zipping around it like lightning. A quaint cap rested on her head with floppy 'ears,' the whole thing possessing the same motif as her robes. In one hand she held a crystal ball, and in the other, she held a stone tablet with ancient writing upon it. Who else but a prophet would carry those things? "My Lordship, have you no confidence in yourself? In me? We are together. Any chances of you losing went down the drain when I came to warn you and decided to fight by your side," she told him reassuringly in a whimsical voice.

"Grrr....I suppose you're right. Doubting myself isn't getting us anywhere. Maybe they won't even show if they think you've seen them coming."

"Oh no, my Lordship. They will come. As a matter of fact...." her voice trailed off as she gazed into her crystal ball. An image appeared that only she could see within--an image of a group of people standing just outside the courtroom listening in on their conversation. "They're already here." She pointed to the open doors of the courtroom.

Nara took the lead and issued the others to follow since they were already found out. Her daggers were drawn in an instant. "Magistrate Allera, you have been marked for elimination." Her eyes were as cold as the steel of her gleaming blades. "Your death shall bring us one step closer to saving this country."

"If you think I'm gonna lay down and die, you got another thing coming, you arrogant little upstart!" He prepared his hammer and shield as Nanila backed away a bit. This would be the crucial step--the distraction to get the guard around the castle lowered.

"I forgot to mention that I have a little intel of my own," Alexandra spoke up suddenly, her saber drawn and at the ready. "Not only can the prophet Nanila see the future, but she is also an accomplished healer. It would be best to disable her first." With that in mind, the noble rushed forward and leaped into the air, make sure to go too high--there was a ceiling after all. At the pinnacle of her descent, she angled herself towards Nanila and began to fall as was natural, but she collected the force along her blade in the form of an aura that she brought down hard upon the prophet. If it had hit her, she would be on her knees where she belonged, the feelings of being nothing but a mere servant coursing through her mind and taking a likewise effect upon her body.

Kat waits.

Though Alexandra was confident in what she must do, Kat wasn't on the same wavelength. She didn't know what the foes were capable of. It was so early on to just focus on one thing, not to mention she worried about what sort of effects her magic would have on the magistrate and the prophet. Always best to think it through, Kat, she thought to herself, keeping her bow steady at her side, getting a feel for her own mana. In due time, she would know and she would unleash the full power of her magic.

Nanila merely looked up at the noble from her place on her knees and smiled. "Lady Alexandra, you know it is unfitting for you to be hanging around these...scoundrels," she spoke softly, standing up straight and tall while smoothing out her outfit. "What would your uncle say if he knew you were nothing but an assassin? I do not think he would approve." Shaking her head, her hands began to glow as she charged up some light mana and tossed it over to Allera, the image of a large fist wearing a gauntlet appearing above him before sinking into his form to give him extra power. "Playing pretend is for children dear. When you play for real, you might get hurt, okay?" Her voice was still as gentle as could be for such harsh words.

Nanila waits.

Allera let the prophet's spell sink in before he glowered at the archer. "You will pay for that," he said flatly and was upon her, smashing away at her with his hammer, both blows landing directly against her body with great force. "You will also find waltzing into my courtroom to be a big mistake."

Prophets. Grr...I wonder if she knows where I am right now, Nara thought to herself, stealthily moving forward undetected at least by the magistrate. She was going to do Alexandra and everyone else a favor by taking the healer out first. With Nanila around, they would find it difficult to accomplish anything, even though she decided to not immediately take action with healing Allera, but instead empowering him. If they didn't handle her quickly, all of their actions so far would have been for nothing.

Helena was in some trouble, and though provoking the magistrate appeared to be rather reckless, it was great that she had been able to poison him. Nerra's expert eyes could see it in the paling color of the magistrate's skin, almost turning a sickly hue. His blows seemed to appear at full force, but a slight tremble of his arms and sometimes his legs were dead giveaways that something was amiss. Slight they may have been, but he was definitely ailed. Nerra focused mana into her staff and waved it through the air causing a small shower of light to fall upon Helena to try and take care of most of the injuries she had sustained from Allera's brutal assault.

"Nanila..." Alexandra said inaudibly to herself before performing a small curtsy before the prophet which seemed to bolster her confidence a bit. "This isn't pretend, Nanila. We're trying to save my uncle, and the entire country!" she shouted desperately. "You know how bad Allera is, and yet you still support him? You have a choice, Nanila. Just like I did..." Her voice trailed off and she was silent. A sad look in her eyes was dominated by a fierce resolve as she held her saber threateningly. Was it something the prophet had just foreseen? Or was it a case of what she didn't foresee? Would she not break a vision that came to her? She wasn't a bad woman, and she had cared for Alexandra before all of this had happened. Alexandra did not want to see her dead, but she knew that if Nanila didn't go against whatever prophecy she had seen, then, as assassins, they would be forced to be thorough with their task.

Alexandra waits.

Kat moves to I5.

"All right, enough is enough," Kat said firmly to herself and drew just a bit nearer to Allera so he was just barely in her range. She raised her bow and pointed it right at the magistrate. An arrow of pure mana appeared nocked in the bow, and she pulled back the 'invisible' bowstring until her arm was trembling at the force it took to hold it so taut. The arrowhead began to spin rapidly like a drill, and at that point, Kat released it allowing it to soar through the air, mana surging around the shaft as the arrowhead kept spinning. With expert aim, the arrow narrowly missed Helena choosing instead to run Allera completely through before dissipating.
