Pikmin

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Jonno, Jul 17, 2013.

  1. Surely, I can't be the only person on these boards who is seriously looking forward to the impending release of Pikmin 3. Believe it or not, but my experience with the series thus far is only marked by my playtime with Captain Olimar and his Pikmin in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and a week with the original title around its launch, thanks to a healthy trip to the local Blockbuster back in the day. With that said, between what I know of the series thus far and what I'm seeing in terms of the new title, I can't help but be excited. I don't know if Pikmin 3 is something I'm picking up on launch day or not just yet, as I have roughly 6 or 7 other titles coming out this year that I am very excited for as well, and obviously don't have the money for all of that just now, but it's something that I am definitely picking up as soon as I possibly can when relaying to the list of titles on my to-buy list.

Are you looking forward to the release of Pikmin 3? Do you anticipate picking it up, and when? Have you played past Pikmin games, and if so, do you recommend that I pick them up before playing Pikmin 3, and if the answer's yes, should I pick up the GameCube originals or the Wii updates? What are some of your favorite moments from past Pikmin games, and what are you looking forward to the most with the impending release of Pikmin 3?

  2. I CAN'T FRIGGIN' WAIT. Pikmin 2 is like my second-favorite game of all time and I've been waiting for a sequel for almost a decade now! But I kinda doubt that the sequel'll top Pikmin 2 due to the fact that the dungeon exploration aspect of it seems to be gone which was my favorite thing about P2 (I mean, one of my favorite moments in gaming happened in one of those dungeons! Which I won't spoil because it's just so amazing and surprising. It still gets me to this day. >.>)...I'm still gonna totally get it on launch day, though.

And I highly recommend playing through the past games, Jonno, especially the Wii update since the controls are so superior to the gamecube ones.

  3. From what I've seen and heard myself, Pikmin 3 is being thrown about as the most definitive experience yet in terms of gameplay, and there's going to be at least one big story twist that'll make everyone go loopy. Amazing and surprising, henceforth, seems to be Pikmin's nature, which is pretty awesome. xD So, between what you said about the second installment and what I'm hearing virtually everywhere about the third, I realize that I really need to jump on the Pikmin train as soon as possible. Once I get my good ol' massive paycheck in next month from my college, I'll push a tiny bit off into my "money for wants" area and pick up the original with Wii control and the 3rd one since it has pretty much a new storyline and I'm filled in on the basics anyway by the Non-Existent Guide of A 21st Century Nintendo Gamer's Default Knowledge.

Thanks for the post of encouragement! I definitely have a new series I need to play with now. B)

  4. Just like @"Muddy", I recommend that you play the first two Pikmin games so you can understand the build up to Pikmin 3 for all of us Pikites(idk using this as Pikmin fanbase name for now :/). For a lot of the people who played the original Pikmin, it was HELL with the limited time you got to get all the pieces of your ship. Everyday you HAD to get at least one piece, and if you could, get at least 2-3 pieces in one day so you have a free day to explore and eliminate obstacles. A little advice from me is to do what I just told you with the 2-3 pieces in one day so you can do whatever you like AND make sure you don't have your Pikmin die in HUGE chunks or you will be in major trouble. My favorite Pikmin from the first game HAS to be the blue Pikmin, since they can swim and that's helpful as hell.

In my opinion, I liked Pikmin 2 a LOT more than the original since there is no timeline where you will die if you don't get shit. I liked the addition of new Pikmin and Louie, you're (retarded) co-pilot. Louie basically lets you split your group in half so some can follow him, while the others go with Olimar. Though, I wished it could've been co-op so you could have played with friends. The only time limit you have in this game is the day-night cycle, but it's enough to get shit done. My advice is to take only what you need for the map and what pieces you're trying to get, like if you are going to cross a river, you should take blue pikmin, etc. MY favorite Pikmin in this game has to be the purple Pikmin, since they do a lot of damage with their huge size.

That's all I'll tell you for now until you get the games and needs some help from us, @"Jonno" :p

  5. I got @whitesubtitlesoncanadianwinter to play Pikmin 2 (New Play Control) the other day. She was very upset whenever she lost a single Pikmin.

  6. By upset he means that I cried. I really shouldn't play video games
