Oscars 2015!

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Rose, Jan 25, 2015.

  1. Alright, it's one of my favorite times of year: Oscar Season!

    And the nominees are...

What do you think of the nominees? Any favorites? Any surprises at who was nominated and who wasn't? On a scale of 1-10, how white are the nominees? Predictions on winners?

Also, Wes Anderson should not have been nominated for Best Director, or anything other than the "Biggest Poopyhead" category

  3. I'm sorry, I thought I just read Wes Anderson. Did you mean: Clint Eastwood?

  4. American Sniper because propaganda

guaranteed Bradley Cooper gets an Oscar

  5. I believe there's a scene where he shoots a Muslim and then has a flashback of him with his dad shooting an animal, as if those are even remotely similar
Also- BH6, HTTYD2, Grand Budapest, GoTG, Emma Stone, yaaass

  6. Clint Eastwood should ask Obama to get off his chair, then beat Wes Anderson over the head with it.

Of course, Rob Marshall was snubbed for Into the Woods, so Best Director is a moot point.

  7. Why Wes Anderson? I love him, he's one of my favorites.

  8. Only thing I can think of is it was his first time taking a human life vs his first time taking an animal's life.

  9. He's fine as a scriptwriter, but his directorial style is so antiseptic that it kills all the emotion in his films. He's like a reverse Spike Jonze. Wait, I just remembered Her is a thing that won awards. AUUUUUUUUUUGH

  10. Happy to see The Grand Budapest Hotel nominated for Best Picture, I haven't watched the whole thing yet but what I saw was very impressive.  Thank goodness Selma was at least nominated for Best Picture (not that I think it will beat American Sniper which is terrible to know).
I really liked The Imitation Game but I don't believe it deserves an Oscar.

Definitely interested to see who takes best animated feature.

Pissed that Gillian Flynn isn't nominated for adapted screenplay.

I have never been overly interested in the Oscars but even then I am still disappointed to see the appalling lack of diversity.  People of colour and women are underrepresented yet again.  There also seems to be a lack of creativity right now,  half of the nominees for Best Picture are representations of real men and their stories.  It takes skill to create those movies but there are so many other stories to be told.
