  2. (split into a new thread because mario kart)

DAMN, the retro courses got tricked out. I quite honestly giggled in excitement as I booted up the GCN Sherbet Land. Tickled pink with nostalgia.

Honestly, playing through each of the courses for the first time, I caught myself grinning and saying "No fucking way." And that was just playing alone. I can't wait to play with friends. The reason I love Mario Kart is that it's got a healthy dosage of throwbacks, while keeping it fresh and new (even if that comes at the expense of a certain other Nintendo racer). The game itself is gorgeous, and it handles pretty well too. The drifting is a tad awkward for me on the bike, but hey. It's a fun time.

One complaint I would have though is that if you're playing multiplayer on the GamePad, even if you change the display to show the race itself, you still are compartmentalized into a tiny corner, as you are forced to also see your friend(s). It's kind of a bummer, though it is understandable since you can't really have an advantage over your friends... I guess.

All in all, it's great. Hopefully this is some sort of a jolt of life back into the Wii U - there is a lot of potential on this console, and it's really just a matter of time before it gets unlocked. I hope.

  3. I picked it up today, but I haven't played it yet. I want to finish 3D World first.

  4. Why wait? I mean, 3D World is a great game in its own right, but damn. I've been blown away by MK8.

  5. I really need to add you guys when I get my copy. (Can't waaaait)

What are you guys getting for the free game you get when you register MK8? I'm totally gonna snag Wind Waker.

  6. I was really thinking Pikmin since I'm not much of a Zelda fan.

  7. >tfw no Wii U

This seems like an amazing game. I'll have to look into getting the console someday.

  8. I would greatly like to kick your ass some more at Piranha Plant Slide, yes!

  9. ^

also i mean yeah ofc mk8 and smash will doublehandedly raise the wii u from perdition no sarcasm but that shit do sell good

  10. Like Eebit, I'm a proud first-day owner of the game and can vouch for its AWESOMENESS firsthand! Go pick up a Wii U ASAP, brotato chips and gal pals, because we got some kartin' to do. I can't tell you how much concurrent nostalgia and newfounded jaw-dropping-y-ness I'm feeling for this title at the same exact time.

The anti-grav portions add just the right touch of altered gameplay and WHOAMGWHAT to the visual design to where it's just absolutely fantastic; especially on the retro courses as they're revamped like never before. Just seeing N64's Rainbow Road in HD was enough, but with the new anti-grav? Better than butter on a stick. Way better. Not that butter on a stick is good (unless it's melted butter), but it's way better than it, and the most exciting release I've had with bought for the Wii U yet.

There's a bit of lag in online mode at times, but not nearly as bad as it could've been on Wii, and I can't get my free Pikmin 3 download yet since Club Nintendo is experiencing some lag itself, but hey! Other than that, the experience has been amazing. My favorite Mario Kart by miles. Screw the h8rz out there for worrying so much. Wii U is going to go from criminally underrated to (Underrated) God of the Next Gen, and it starts with this game. :5

  11. Halfway through World 5 on 3D World, so I'll estimate it'll be another month before I actually unwrap the game and stick it into my console. Is there a time limit on the game download?

  12. You have until July 31st.

  13. ok thank you @Jonno

  14. Guys, what will the game after Mario Kart 63 be called?

  15. Welcome, @Gist bby. B)

Also, @Eebit, thanks for the game yesterday! I can't get over how endlessly fun and replayable this installment is alone, let alone when actually playing with friends near or far. Excellent matches, I say! We definitely have to do that again soon.

  16. I quite agree, I had a great time playing online with you! It's extremely fun playing, and doubly so with friends. Such a great experience. MK7 was phenomenal, and MK8 only tempered the experience with fantastic visual appeal and wonderful replay value. I mean heck, it's Mario Kart. It is bound to be fun, really, so I am not terribly surprised.

I do think there are some issues with the online play, as you mentioned earlier in the thread. It would be extremely nice to have the ability to chat during the race, and not be cut off without warning just after the course selection process. Probably just before every race, I felt like I was in the middle of saying something to you only to be cut off. The first time it happened? I kept talking to "you" for a little bit, only to realize that you were no longer on the other end. But all the same, we had some great races. The final one on Mount Wario was perfectly fitting of the title of a final race! Such a close finish, definitely the perfect course to have a photo-finish on, I'd say.

  17. dem DLC packs.

I caved in when I saw that Ribbon Road was going to be included in this batch and bought both of the DLC track packs. I LOVE what they did with the retro tracks, especially the GBA ones. This round is pretty awesome. Also Neo Bowser City in HD is pretty rockin'.

  18. I've finally gotten to a place where I'm comfortably sitting on a security blanket of some extra cash, so I'll probably delve into both DLC packs myself pretty shortly, here. Returning to this topic and seeing @Eebit having posted here reminds me how fun the game is, especially online, so if anyone ever wants to play a game, just let me know! In the mean time, I'll be working on unlocking everything again, as I ended up losing my previous usb drive. Woo!
