[Freeform| Pirates ~ Spyglass of Atlantis]

Discussion in 'Interest Checks' started by Spaughtyena, Oct 27, 2012.

  1. Hello fellow ZEJians! This roleplay was inspired by two things, the first being many hours listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. Second was a short story I wrote.

This roleplay involves the characters (you) being either a pirate or prisoner aboard "The Vile Compass." a ship destined for fame and glory! The ship's captain has heard of a evil cove that contains a spyglass capable of finding the lost city of Atlantis and the treasures within, however it is said that even now, Atlantis is still cursed. And threatens to unleash the restless dead upon whoever dares to brave its depths...

    Now for the world!

Spyglass of Atlantis takes place in a land called Khallera. This land is comprised of a series of 5 islands, only 3 of which have ever been explored. The three islands act as continents on their own, housing different species on each, as well as their own religious beliefs.

    Island of Oquene

This island is home to a vulpine race. (Called Oquenise.) They are simple and relatively pacifist as a race, preferring talk over war. They are sometimes viewed as 'demonic' or 'taboo.' These stereotypes are brought upon because of the cult-like rituals they perform in comparison to normal christian belief. The Oquenise are focused in civilized tribes across their island, and are despised by the surrounding islands, often taken as slaves.
Ex of rituals. Celebration of the First Light. (Birth)

Prior to the day of birth (usually one week.) All the friends an family are gathered to a grove of the mother's choosing to bear witness to the birthing of a new child. As the birthing begins scented candles are lit around the mother to ward of evil spirits that could manifest into the child.
The guest and relatives keep close by to the mother, making sure nothing is at risk. When the child is born, it is bathed in a mixture of water and the runoff wax from the candles, an extra step in warding off evil spirits.

The Oquenise though often mocked and taken for granted, have great tracking skills, as well as eyesight. There are no better scouts or cartographers than the Oquenise!

    Island of Laiedé

This Island is home to the Humans. The humans that have settled here are comprised entirely of Romans. They are the most advances and civilized of all the races. The have made an alliance with the neighboring island of Byelan, causing a massive increase on both economies.

The Humans of this island have been subjected to harsher weather than their homeland causing them to be a hearty soul to be reckoned with. They make the best mercenaries and are the most sought-after warriors in the land.

The religion on this island in entirely Roman-catholic.

    Island of Byelan

This Island is home to a Feline race, named the same as their island. They are diverse in looks, often mirroring anything you could imagine with relative feline features. They made an easy alliance with the Romans and often were the people of choice when stealth was a priority.
Their civilization's code of conduct was based around reincarnation. If you were good in life, your spirit would be reborn in another life. (usually in the next family generation)
The Byelan have no last names, instead they are named after either their mother or father, whichever shares their gender.
(ie: Syolu IV Named after the mother, Syolu III)
If the individual was sinful in life, their soul was said to stay in the body as it decomposed, destroying it forever.

The Byelan are not only prized sneaks and assassins, but they also have a certain sixth-sense, giving them quicker reflexes in times of danger.

  2. Inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean; YES. So much. I'm only open-minded to the pirate genre because of those epic movies.

So this whole thing is interesting. I'd very much like to see where you take this, and I'm actually eager to take up the offer of making an anthropomorphic character. Hope this bitch happens~

  3. Seems like a pretty cool idea, in my opinion. Would be interested in joining this - gives me an excuse to bust out one of my older characters, methinks (unless I'm reading this wrong, which could also be the case)!

  4. Depends what you think you read wrong, As longs as the character fits into the storyline, I'm pretty lenient.

  5. Alright, with Dark in the background saying he wants to join, I'm thinking I can start with 3 players, I'll have the SU soon!

  6. I think I may take part.

  7. Sounds good, more the merrier!

  8. Just wondering, you still plan on doing this?

  9. Absolutely, I am going to set up the SU and OoC soon!
