Whatcha Readin'?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Electro, Apr 16, 2012.

  1. So yeah, post what you're reading (cause I'm Bored)

    Eragon
Full Metal Alchemist Book 4 (Manga)
    Beyonders: A World Without Heroes
    Cherub: People's Republic

  2. I'm reading a post on an internet forum.

  3. I C WHUT U DID THAR [@Both Flaem and Roxas]

Nothing much, just Jane Eyre for the nth time.

  4. Fear, the fifth book in the Gone series. It happens to be the only book series I go out of my way to read. :D

  5. Finished it already, read it in 2 days

  6. Damn that's alot of books Roxas!

Anyways, right now, I'm reading Stephen King's "The Dark Side."

I absolutely LOVE Stephen King. Love, love, love, love, LOVE. I've read about 20 books from him about now, haha. So goooood. XD

  7. Yeah, well, Eragon at School, People's Republic at my Mom's, Beyonders at my Dad's, and the Manga whenever I can find time. Fear was cause we just got it and I wanted to read it before my bro.

  8. Presently, I'm rereading an old favourite of mine, the ever-controversial Golden Compass (or Northern Lights, if you so prefer) by Phillip Pullman. I really enjoyed the series, despite people finding it to be "against God and Christianity" or whatever. At the same time, I'm reading Generation A by Douglas Coupland, which is absolutely hilarious based solely on the dialogue between characters. Coupland is a great writer in my opinion, and absolutely has a way with character development... if you don't mind the sporadic profanity (spoilers i don't).

  9. ^Hell with religion, Pullman has a functional sisability to produce any humour.

Now, why I don't like His Dark Materials is because the prose is difficult to read. Every time I started reading it, I get an impulse to put it down and read some other book. Execution of the story via writing is mheh. Okay, Northern Lights was fine, but it could itself have been written better. The one time I forced myself to read through the Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass, I was not impressed.

I am currently reading a copy of Darke, from the Septimus Heap series (Angie Sage). I was not impressed with the opening, but once we passed that hurdle the book became infinitely better. In fact, I love the second half! Ending was good, funny and slightly pitiable.

  10. Archenemy, the third book in Frank Beddor's Looking Glass Wars series. It's really, really good.

  11. Switched to The Warlock from the series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (Michael Scott).

  12. @Eebit: Got through the first through, although I was mega bored, but couldn't for the life of me get through the third. Started the first in french, was even more bored.
@Espy 1st: Couldn't get through the first, can't remember the name, to boring.
@Doc (do you mind if I call you Doc? Oh well): I should probably get to that one, oh well, maybe after People's Republic.
@Espy 2nd: Finished it, can't wait for the Enchantress

  13. ^I myself like the Septimus Heap Series, which is a great series! Like Espeon, I like the writing style and the execution of the narrative - I also like the overall tone she maintains in narration!

... And this is what Lang/Comp does to you. :(

  14. It´s amazing howmany books I recognize here! Here´s a list of books I read so far the last 4 weeks:
Skuldugery Pleasent 1-6 & Short "End of the World"
Percy Jackson 1-3 in German ( would´ve rather read em in english though)
    A few One Piece Mangas
    Howl´s moving castle
    The Ant trilogy

Yes, I read rather fast. That´s why there are phases of weeks where I don´t read any book, cause I read fast, but I´m pretty picky about what I read. I have also read the Septimus Heap series (up to Darke) and the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (up to 4) in German.

This thread is a genius idea btw!

  15. Yeah, I'm basically tense with excitement for Enchantress! I liked the rest, especially the Sroceress, so yes, I'm waiting.

  16. Kane and Abel - Jeffrey Archer
The Gods Themselves - Isaac Asimov

  17. Darkness ~L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
    Arms Commander ~L.E. Modesitt, Jr.

Well, if I saw this post a bit ago, then the list would have been way longer.

So Nitori, how's "The Gods Themselves"? Is it a good book in your point of view?

  18. Wow. I've never heard of any of the books, except PJ, and obviously the SotINF books.

  19. A Song Of Fire And Ice, by George R.R. Martin. Currently near the end of Book 2, 'A Clash of Kings'. Definitely the best read in ages for me.

  20. Reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I haven't gotten very far in, seeing as the novel is for my English class, so it hasn't really picked up plot-wise yet. There's evidently a lot of social commentary, and I can definitely see how this book would have been banned back in the day. A little surprised it got past the ridiculous standards set by the schoolboards/Ministry of Education, but hey, it's better than some of the other garbage they try to shove down our throats in school.

(Still reading Generation A, but that's sort of backburnered for the moment~)
