    The everyday life in Gensokyo...

    Welcome to Gensokyo. The Land of Fantasy stands isolated from the rest of the world by a powerful boundary, the Hakurei Border, and holds a vast expanse of landlocked territory bordered by the distant mountains from the east. Being at least ten kilometers in total diameter, it is more than enough for both human and youkai to populate in, with the most notable locations being the Youkai Mountain, with the Moriya Shrine standing imposingly near a lake at the summit; the Forest of Magic; the Bamboo Forest of the Lost; the Misty Lake surrounding the Scarlet Devil Mansion; the newly-built Myouren Temple, and a common Human Village.

    With incidents to solve, enemies to oppose, allies to trust,

    Between the residents of Gensokyo the most common are human and youkai, opposing races that have endlessly battled to eliminate each other since ancient times. Ever since the Shrine Maiden of Hakurei, Reimu Hakurei, had imposed the SpellCard Rules to be applied globally to Gensokyo, the residents are used to engage in beautiful duels of patterns called Danmaku Battles, be them as friendly sparring matches, or as true fights to the finish. In such a fabled realm, there currently exists three major powers fighting from their individual points of view. Shinto, Buddhism and Taoism. Ever since the resurrection of the Saint Toyosatomimi no Miko set off by the construction of the Myouren Temple by Byakuren Hijiri, such powerful three-way rivalry has intensified for the past few months. Is it going somewhere else?

    Is, ultimately, a fantasy tale beyond our mortal grasp, a true equilibrium accurate to title...

    The Spring Welcoming Festival is currently taking place. It is, as the name itself implies, a celebration made by Reimu Hakurei with the aid of her Oni friend, Suika Ibuki, as a merry mean of gathering most of the population of Gensokyo to enjoy the blooming spring. However, there is something in motion behind the sweet, innocent mantle of this party. The Shrine Maiden of Paradise has not been seen for three days. Originally it was thought she was simply busy with handling the Spring Welcoming Festival, but soon her friends--namely Yukari Yakumo and Marisa Kirisame for starters, noticed there was something wrong. Secrecy has been maintained, but it would not last for long. This could only mean something.

    Another incident has occurred.

    A Character starts with three Spell Cards, and one Final Spell. These three Spell Cards are to be the Easy variations of them for the sake of beginning simplicity. A Final Spell is a Spell Card-immune variation of a Spell Card which is the last said Character will use for a Danmaku Battle, given the opponent has made her use every other available Spell Card (See: Spell Card Rules). It should be considerably more difficult than the starting rest--but remember, even Final Spells have Tiers.

    Spell Naming Law

    With each fight between youkai, there is the fear of collapse of the small land of Gensokyo.

    However, if youkai are unable to fight, their power will gradually vanish.

    Therefore, I propose the following contract for the allowance for duels.

    Concepts

    That youkai can easily cause disasters.

    That humans can easily resolve disasters.

    That use of one's full abilities is to be denied.

    That there are no things superior to beauty and thought.

    Rules

    Rule #1 ~ Each special pattern shall be given a beautiful and meaningful name.

    Rule #2 ~The number of named pattern to be used shall be announced beforehand.

    Addendum --- Attacks relying on physical strength are not to be repeated.

    [NOTE: This clearly means purely physical techniques--otherwise Spell Cards such as Cat Monster "Chen" or New Impossible Request "Seamless Ceiling of Kinkaku-ji" would not exist.]

    Rule #3 ~ Do not attack without reason, as reason becomes its own power.

    Rule #4 ~ If all your named patterns are defeated, you are defeated, regardless of your remaining strength.

    Addendum --- If victorious against a human, you may not kill them

    Rule #5 ~ The name of the special pattern shall be recorded on paper in the same form as this contract.

    As a result, all of the aforementioned regulations become absolute.

    This paper will be called the Spell Card.

  3. Name: Inuko Isamu

    Gender: Female

    Age: 117

    Species: Youkai (Inugami)

    Appearance:
    Inuko is a short Youkai, and is quite canine in appearance. She has large brown eyes and a sharp face with a pointed nose. Her long, sandy blonde hair feels almost more like fur when one strokes a hand through it. Through the hair rise her ears, which are those of a dog rather than a human. Usually, Inuko wears a white dress with many animal patterns embroidered upon it, and usually walks barefoot(though sometimes she does wear sandals, but this is a rare sight indeed).

    Title: Ghost of a Protective Dog

    Abilities:
    Possession: Inuko is able to possess nonsapient beings, such as animals or kedama, as well as many forms of energy(including danmaku bullets)
    Shield: Inuko can set up a protective shield around herself or someone else.

    Personality: Imuko is charismatic and faithful; she never turns on any promise she has vowed. She remains calm and stalwart in nearly any situation, like any guardian should do. When she has vowed to protect someone, she will only in the rarest circumstances leave their side, and if that person dies while in her care, she becomes brutally depressed for months, or even years.

    Basic Shot: Barking Dog: Inuko shoots bullets shaped like the head of a dog.

    Spell Theme:
    Protective Magic: Spells that are mostly defensive, usually more focused on redirection and reflection.
    Guard Dog: Fast and aggressive spells that show that Inuko's bite is far worse than her bark.

    Guardian Sign "One Time-Use Shield"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Inuko flies about the area, stopping only to set up and hide behind magical barriers that, when hit with a single bullet, release a small wave of bullets onto the opponent.
    Information: Bad phrasing on the description. Technically, Inuko spends about 2-3 second behind each shield, which is a long time in danmaku terms.

    Redirection Sign "Waving Reality"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Inuko stays in one spot, firing rings of bullets, with one bullet in each ring centered on the opponent. Inuko also sets up waves that distort the path of any bullet: both hers and her opponent's.
    Information: Basically, depending on where a character is in relation to Inuko, this could become either a streaming spell or a rain spell. Due to the waves, opponents must find just the right positions in order to hit Inuko.

    Dog to Wolf "Snarling Spirit"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Giving up her defenses, Inuko blasts toward the opponent, headed by a dog-shaped bullet. Firing off even faster dog-shaped bullets in front and to both sides of her.
    Information: Streaming. Yawn. The only thing that makes this a bit harder is the fact that Inuko is flying very fast, and that ithas awkward timing.

    Fantastic Shield "The Protection that Only an Inugami Could Bring"
    Type: Final Spell

    Description: Inuko sets up two layers of shields around her, each with a small(But not tiny) hole. These barriers reflect one for one the bullets which hit it, often leading to awkward trajectories. All of this while sending bursts of breath-like bullets.

  4. Name: Aramu Kenkyu

    Gender: Female

    Age: Unknown, older than Taiga

    Species: Youkai (Okami)

    Appearance:
    Aramu is of a medium build, with gray wolf ears(each holding a red ribbon) pointing out from her short but untidy hair, which is the same shade. A gray, white-tipped tail is the only other obvious physical aspect of her that shows she is an okami, although her scarlet eyes don't leave a lot of room for guessing(despite some humans also having red eyes). If one looks closely, they can see small fangs set in her jaw, more wolflike features to show she isn't human. Aramu wears loose-fitting white clothes with bright red and blue markings adorning them. Her sleeves reach almost to her claw-tipped hands.

    Title: The Slightly Unwelcome Researcher

    Abilities: Sharp hearing and ability to track, control of snow

    Personality: Somewhat... eccentric, even most other youkai consider her to be slightly odd. Aramu studies humans intently, often sending Taiga, her kudagitsune shikigami, to research in her stead if Aramu herself is unable. She's determined and persistent, and this combined with her slight cluelessness has led to the most common note in her notebook being, "Subject becomes unnecessarily hostile when observed." However, she is moderately friendly and wouldn't harm a human even if she wasn't fascinated with them, unless she or Taiga are threatened.

    Basic Shot: Snow Stream: Fires a flurry of snow-like bullets at the enemy.

    Spell Theme: Snow.

    Bright Night "Snow Blind"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Aramu sends out a flurry of snow to reflect any light and blind her enemy, then proceeds to shoot arrow-like bullets at the enemy.
    Information: Blindness as in Mystia's spells. Simple dodging.

    Arctic Torrent ~ Avalanche
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Aramu calls forth a plethora of small to medium bright white bullets, which her opponent must dodge.
    Information: Rain.

    Flurry Sign "Diamond Storm" -Easy-
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: White and cyan shard-like bullets come at the enemy from strange angles, often intersecting with each other and creating quickly-closing gaps. The enemy must be alert and aware of her surroundings to effectively dodge this spell.
    Information: Basically come from random directions but aren't necessarily aimed at the enemy.

    Winter Melody "Howling Blizzard"
    Type: Final Spell

    Description: Expanding rings appear around the opponent, made up of cyan and white shards, then they expand outwards quickly, the gaps possible but difficult to get through.
    Information: KINDA like Galaxy in a Pot but there's more than one ring at any given time.

    Name: Taiga Kenkyu

    Gender: Female

    Age: 110

    Species: Youkai (Kudagitsune)

    Appearance:
    Slight in stature, Taiga has pale gold hair that extends down to her waist and carries a pale blue butterfly-like ribbon at the top of her head, between two long ears slightly resembling that of a rabbit's. However, these ears are tipped with gray and a tuft of fur, marking the kudagitsune for what she is. Her pale blue eyes are wide and cheerful, complemented by her white dress decorated with pale blue and gold markings. Like Aramu, her fingers are tipped with canine nails, making her hands clawed, and her wrists carry collar-like rings. A long, white tail striped in gold extends from her spine, splitting three-fourths to the end. A golden ring, seemingly unattached to her, encircles the fork of her tail. Each end of her double tail has a small black orb simply hovering at the end of it. She is also able to turn into her kudagitsune form, in which she is a weasel-sized foxlike creature with the same ears and tail. Her fur is white and striped in pale blue and gold.

    Title: Okami's Loyal Shikigami

    Abilities: Ability to make plants grow

    Personality: Eager to please Aramu, Taiga can be slightly hyperactive(which tires her master on occasion) but has an eye for trouble and does all she can to avoid it. She is incredibly loyal and will often go out to research humans herself if Aramu is unable. Taiga can be easy to scare or intimidate, and she doesn't often engage in danmaku battles for this very reason. Aside from that, she's usually in a good mood and is even more friendly than her master, if a bit more aware of her surroundings.

    Basic Shot: Bamboo Spear: Fires long bullets resembling bamboo stalks.

    Spell Theme: Mostly plants, especially bamboo.

    Rose Sign "Ring of Thorns"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Fires red and green thorn-like bullets in expanding rings every second or so.
    Information: Very simple spell, no tricks.

    Growth of the Swamp Vine -Easy-
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Vines grow near the opponent to limit how far to the sides they can go while Taiga fires shard-like bullets at her foe.
    Information: Kinda like Marisa's Earth Light Ray and a few other laser spells.

    Bamboo Sign "Meriam Buluh" -Easy-
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Taiga aims two long stalks of bamboo at the enemy, firing shard-like bullets at either side of the enemy, the ones to the left staying as bullets to try to hit the enemy while the ones to the right explode into pellet-like bullets, requiring at least some skill at dodging.
    Information: Streaming. Yay.

    Kendo Spear ~ Bamboo Storm
    Type: Final Spell

    Description: Stalks of bamboo hurtle towards the enemy while Taiga takes two as if they are swords, spinning one in each hand as she darts around, making it hard to get a clear shot at her while also dodging the bamboo.
    Information: Pretty much pseudo-survival as it's hard to shoot at her...

    Gender: Female

    Age: 60-80, She claims to be immortal.

    Species: Assumed Human

    Appearance

    Title: Pathless Shinobi

    Abilities
    Destructive Desire: Shiori is capable of forces of unknown nature. These blasts are just as unpredictable as herself.

    No More: Not only is she capable of invisibility, she can improve a step farther as to become intangible as well, leaving her in the closest form of non-existence, for a brief time. It is this ability that seems to improve her very mortal being, extending her life to unknown lengths, unknown because, well, she hasn't died yet.

    Marksman: Shiori is an expert in the arts of thrown weapons.

    Personality
    Although she is capable of appearing and acting as if she were "normal," Shiori suffered from a trauma no living person knows of that could leave her in a state of absolute insanity. Living countless years in this state of sanity or none, she has formed into a middle ground, completely purging herself of the concept of sanity. She is extremely unpredictable yet completely able to be understood, but always prone to change. She has a very cheerful outlook on her broken life, and is very open and easy to befriend, as long as you don't make any sudden movements... or words... or thoughts.

    Basic Shot: Splintering Needle: A flurry of wafer-thin, razor-sharp needles with an explosive injection, making them splinter off pieces as they hit. Every time a needle hits, 1~3 pieces of shrapnel is shot out in a random forward directions.

    Spell Theme: Profound Insanity

    Calming Sign "Waves of the Sea"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: A line of slender blue bullets line the lowest border. It begins to rise and ripple as if it were an ocean of waves. As it rises, a mixture of blue orbs and white specks appear beneath the line. As the "waves" pass along the stream, a small amount of the blue orbs and white specks escape to fly in any upward direction. The "sea level" only rises to about a fourth of the [screen] and as it rises more projectiles escape.
    Information: Not sure what else to say...

    Hollow Soul "Crossroads of the Mind"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: Eight orbs are created in the four compass directions and corners. Shiori moves around and through these orbs, which release 3 fast-moving kunai when passed or the opposite end orb is passed, fired in the general direction of the foe. Shiori circles the field in roughly 6 seconds while slipping in and out of intangible/invisible form for 1~2 seconds every 2~6 seconds.
    Information: There is no warning of when she vanishes, she's just instantly gone/back. The orbs still fire when she passes through them.

    Mental Collapse "Search, Impact, Destroy"
    Type: Spell Card

    Description: 5 Large Gold orbs are fired in random directions in 3 second intervals, which move somewhat slowly and are easy to dodge, but bounce off the border until they hit the foe or another large orb when both explode into 3 smaller white orbs that also bounce off the border until they hit the foe or another white orb when both explode into 3 Kunai that fire in the very vague direction of the foe.
    Information: The Kunai can miss naturally by margin a little smaller than the size of Master Spark's hit-box.

    Internal Ruin "Nothing More, Hide it Away"
    Type: Final Spell

    Description: 100 large orbs cover the entire border. A random 30-70% of them being white while the rest are red. All these bullets move simultaneously and semi-quickly toward the foe, becoming completely unavoidable. Being hit by a white orb will cause all the orbs to vanish, with no damage to the foe, and the process starts again. Red orbs act as regular bullets and also resets the process. After the second wave, the orbs will randomly change color between white and red, with each orb having its own random chance of changing. All the while Shiori fades in and out of invisible/intangible every 2~8 seconds for 1~2 seconds
    Information: Hitting the white bullets as they appear on the border is not recommended as the waves get harder as they go. Every wave after wave 2 change color between red and white and do it faster and more likely each wave that passes.
