Star Fox

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Jonno, Mar 16, 2016.

  1. With the impending release of Star Fox Zero, I only found it natural to start up our very own thread for the beloved furry foursome, their rivals, and the media entries that encapsulate their world into sizable portions of gaming glory. In other words, here's a thread for Star Fox series fans.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Zero? I didn't see much to get excited about, at first. I was worried about the cockpit mechanic taking up too much of the core gameplay and distracting oneself from the main screen, and that the visuals didn't look all too hot and that there weren't all that many enemies on-screen during the E3 reveal demo sequences. Miyamoto delaying it, however, was the smartest move he's made in a long time. I think that the latest trailer paints the game out to look absolutely brilliant; those visuals have ticked up significantly to reflect a fantastical, N64-esque HD environment as I'd guess they'd originally planned, and everything about the gameplay seems to be well-balanced and straight-up fun. The promise of a boxed edition of Star Fox Guard sets me over the edge to have to get a day one edition of the game.

All-in-all, I'm very happy that things have changed and the game(s) are looking as great as they are now. I have a long history with Star Fox that hearkens back to childhood roots, playing 64 and Assault multiplayer mode for hours and hours with some of my best friends. Needless to say, the nostalgia is real with this series. I'll very gladly buy Zero & Guard once they've been released this April.

  2. So, I take it no one here is interested in Star Fox Zero, or even the Star Fox series as a whole? Too bad. :p

Anywho, both Zero and Guard are receiving pretty solid reviews. Famitsu gave them a 35 and a 31, respectively, and for starters. I have a friend who gets to review early copies of games for Nintendo, and he's had both games for a while now and can only say great things about them to me, as well. To think we're only one week away from that N.A. release! I'm actually pretty damn excited and have a feeling it'll live up to my hype, when I couldn't have been any more skeptical than I was when it was first announced. What a turnaround.

  3. Consider this the last bump I'll make to this topic unless someone bites. I'm just curious - is anyone else here a fan of Star Fox, even if they're a middling one or have only played a single game or anything? What are your thoughts on Star Fox Zero and Guard? What is your favorite game in the series? Favorite member of the team?

  4. I've actually... never played a Star Fox game, myself. I didn't get much into shooters until around the time I started high school, and by then I didn't really consider giving a Star Fox game the time of day.

Well, I suppose that's not entirely true. I have played a brief few bouts of Star Fox Assault's PvP mode with a friend of mine, although that was fleeting. I remember watching a friend of mine play through Star Fox 64 with the aid of my GameShark when I was very young -- using the invincible cheat, as children are wont to do! But back then I was much more interested in playing Pokemon than Star Fox.
