SOPA

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Jonno, Jan 18, 2012.

  1. If you haven't heard, today is the decision-making day for American Congress to decide upon whether to pass SOPA, a series of bills which, if passed, would severely limit online liberties (such as use of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google+, and even forums in general), in an attempt to halt online piracy. If you would like to join the petition against SOPA, then check out this link. Politics are screwed up.

  2. Okay, I'm strongly against SOPA and PIPA as-is, but here's some good things about ZEJ:

    • The rennervate.com domain is not, has not, and will never be affiliated in any way, shape, or form with GoDaddy. In fact, it's registered through EasyDNS, who object to SOPA.
    • Technically, due to the dark theme, the site is already blacked out.
    • I do host copyrighted music at my blog, but much of the stuff there is entirely my own, and all copyrighted mterial is game music, which, in my experience, is never taken down by rightsholders.

  3. The funny thing is, even with all the problems it is guaranteed to cause, it will hardly make a dent in piracy, if it even manages to make any kind of mark.

I’m fairly confident that congress won’t pass it, or if they do, someone will veto it (Most likely the judicial branch.) Then again, human stupidity never ceases to surprise me.

One thing’s for sure, the people who made this bill have never been on the internet before.

EDIT: On that topic Dark, we don't actually have to have anything to do with piracy to be taken down, a copyright hold need only point a finger at us, no trial or evidence needed. The real defense we have is that no one knows we even exist.

  4. Signed, even though I live across the globe. ಠ_ಠ I'm highly annoyed by the bill. As Flim stated, stupid soapy SOPA won't do anything to hinder piracy; it's only going to hinder freedom, creativity and expression. Cue republicans going, 'Ohhhhhh, right, that would be in BLATANT disregard of one of the primary provisions of the Constitution: Freedom of Speech and Expression!' But I doubt that would happen: like j00n0 said, poli-ticks is screwed up. ಠ.ಠ

But, if SOPA-PIPA gets passed, I promise, I will shoot them senile-ators.

  5. PIPA? SOPA? How about NOPA?

  6. Fuck PIPA and SOPA, if it gets passed I promise Ill take an arrow to the kn--*Gets an arrow to the face*

  10. Been looking around for SOPA/PIPA-related news.

At the moment, it seems that both bills have been postponed.
