    The Basic Description

Terra Alternata, the location of this story, is shaped very much like our own Earth, and carries similar climates to our present-day. The key difference, however, is the fact that the surface of the world is completely covered in water. The land has been completely below the surface of the water for thousands of years, causing the population to have taken to the skies. The population of the world quite literally lives on the elaborate, floating buildings created by years of hard work and collaboration from all of humanity. In this advanced world of technology, it is, of course, only right for the Medium to capitalize and thusly be the reigning empire… However, as you shall soon see, this has led to many problems in what could otherwise be a utopia…

    Technology

As stated above, the technology of Segregation is quite advanced. Gunmanship is common, as are beam-sabers or -daggers (think Star Wars or Phantasy Star [specifically Online]). Thanks to technological developments, the world literally floats in the skies, with the help of jets propelling the floating utopia into the sky, which are powered by wind turbines, in tandem with the condensation of the rising water vapour from the drenched surface of Terra Alternata (though the Medium is presently looking to make the world below inhabitable). Mana does not exist in Terra Alternata, so the Medium has recently developed special drugs known as Optical Enhancers - special shots which are given to every citizen upon birth from their parents (at its inception, adults were administered the shot by each other). The following section (‘Opticks’) will detail the usage of the Optical Enhancer.

    Opticks

As stated above in passing, the Medium has administered a drug known as an Optical Enhancer (OE) to all living citizens. This allows for a suitable replacement to Mana; the usage of which has long dried up in the world. Optical Points (OP) replace the traditional MP in Segregation, however Optical Points are unable to be increased upon level up, and instead require more dosages of the OE drug, which can be store-bought. Opticks can be summarized as innate powers which correspond with the personality of the user. The drug reacts alongside feelings, which creates the different parts of the elemental spectrum (i.e. A typically hot-headed person is able to wield Fire Opticks).

    [IMG] [IMG]

In the year of 1368 on a world both opposite and yet very much alike to our own - known to some as Terra Alternata - the Medium is the governing force. This world is what some would consider a Utopia, while those who know far better would consider it the exact opposite. Many go about their daily lives as puppets of industry; the Medium has fed the general population a mass of garbage for as long as anyone can remember, and have recently (as in, three decades prior) executed a ploy that allows them to theoretically “own” those whose faces appear in the Medium, selling these people off to just about anywhere to do anything imaginable, most of it not exactly ‘morally right’. This has created much controversy to the well-informed; those of ‘official’ government agencies, and a highly secretive organization known only as D.Y.S.T.O. The coalition of the two agencies has allowed those members to erase themselves from databases everywhere. The primary goal of the coalition of the two is to reclaim the world they know it as from the empire of the Medium, and rescuing those poor souls still persuaded by the illusions of grandeur brought on by ‘interviews’ (or rather, selling their souls to the Medium) and the fifteen minutes of fame it brings…

The Medium, however, is distracted by their attempt to allow the world to live upon the surface of Terra Alternata. This gives D.Y.S.T.O. the element of surprise, as the Medium will not be expecting any sort of uprise.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Terra Alternata - The world itself. It is a purely submerged planet, where all people now live in the sky on a floating ‘paradise.’ Not much else can be said, other than developments are being made to explore what is beneath the surface of the planet.

D.Y.S.T.O. (or just DYSTO) - A coalition of both the (former) major government agencies and important business or religious leaders, and a small circle of those working immediately underneath. The primary goal is to usurp power from the Medium once more, to alleviate slavery and the exploitative human trade the Medium performs.

The Medium - A collective force that was once what the world relied on to learn about the goings-on, until they became corrupt and began to spew forth garbage to force the general population into living in a state of constant fear. The empire of the Medium is now partaking in a ‘human trade’ of sorts, now that it has gained the power to own any person appearing in a movie, an interview - anything. They are currently presently unaware of D.Y.S.T.O.’s operations.

Desmond Marwick - Head of D.Y.S.T.O. At age 52, he dresses in a formal business attire at most times, except when an operation is at hand. He is ruthless and callous, having had most of those he holds dear snatched by the Medium. Reclusive, yet undeniably ingenious, Desmond was not selected as the D.Y.S.T.O. head for no reason. He speaks with a British accent and has a large scar from a whip along his back.

Jonathon M. Anderson - ‘Leader’ and figurehead of the Medium Empire. Jonathon is large in both weight and height. His personality is very flexible, ranging anywhere from sweet and deceptive to blunt and harsh. His cunning parallels that of Desmond Marwick, his currently unseen rival. He is as slippery as a snake, and more than willing to step on anyone he needs to in order to keep in power. Speaks with a Southern States accent.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Well, sir/ma’am, I am glad you asked. You are a member of D.Y.S.T.O.; the organization bent upon restoring the world to its former peace and freedom. As an agent of D.Y.S.T.O., you basically don’t exist on record. Essentially, you could be considered a ghost in the system established by the Medium. An unsung hero, if you will. You will progress along, making your way around the Medium and taking care to dodge those in power. D.Y.S.T.O. is scattered at the present, so you will want to rendezvous with your fellow agents as soon as is possible for all of you. Remember, you do not want to be seen or draw attention to yourself, so play it smart when selecting weaponry and attire…

For our personal archives, we would ask you to fill out the following, seeing as we have no information on any of you…

As a side note, each user is allowed a maximum of one (1) character This has been changed in order to accommodate the new Statplay format, making it easier on your friendly neighbourhood GM.

Notice: I have changed the system of Sign Up forms, so if you submitted a character before, you will need to recreate it in the new style. It’s a hassle, yes, but one that will hopefully be worth it in the end. Character slots are limited to 5, but if interest is there, I may increase it. Those who submitted one or two characters before have first dibs!
To Fallen, and Nate: Unfortunately, I had to downsize the amount of characters, so one of yours each will need to be cut. If there is little interest, I’ll consider allowing you to regain control of the other.

    Code:
    [b]Name:[/b]
    [b]Gender:[/b]
[b]Age:[/b] (Please keep this higher than 21, since teenagers likely would not be in a covert agency)
    [b]Level:[/b] (Start with Level 1)
    [b]Next Level:[/b] 0/10
    [b]Appearance:[/b] [spoiler]
General Fields that should be filled out. If you feel you can do a better job summarizing all of this data in a few paragraphs, please do so.

    [b]Height:[/b] (Feet and Inches)
    [b]Weight:[/b] (Pounds)
[b]Nationality:[/b] (Basically where your character comes from on present day Earth)
[b]Manner of Dress/Other Details:[/b] (Fairly self-explanatory, I hope. Image URLs may be placed here instead of paragraphs for everyone to get a good visual)
[b]Personality:[/b] (Keep in mind that this will reflect your elemental ability usage (See: ‘Opticks’).)[/spoiler]
[b]Reason For Joining D.Y.S.T.O.:[/b] (A little backstory for us)

[b]Profession:[/b] (What your character would be considered as a profession. Bear in mind what the timeframe is for the Roleplay, so I hope to not see any “Paladins,” “Archers,” or “Knights”)
[b]Weapon:[/b] (Start off with a basic, yet weak Weapon. I’m going to let you be fairly open-concept with this, but keep the timeframe in mind.)
[b]Armor:[/b] (Start off with a basic, yet weak Armor. See above.)
[b]Accessory:[/b] (Name it anything you would like, and choose what Stat Boost you will get from it. The available Stat Boosts are +5 HP, +5 OP, +1 ATK, +1 DEF, +1 INT, +1 SPR, +5% Evasion or +1 Movement.)

[b]A-Ability:[/b] (Action Ability. This is the summary of the definition of all your Character's Skills. Feel free to be creative. Mana is replaced by the largely similar ‘Opticks,’ so see the corresponding section of the thread for details.)

[b]+[/b] This will be your first skill, which is formatted in the same way as a Statistical Colosseum Skill. If you plan to infuse a physical attack with an Optical Element, please have it correspond with your personality. For example, a hot-head will not go around casting ice-based Opticks. Shadow will be helping me with MP Costs, so it will correspond with what it would cost in SC. "[b]+ Name:[/b] Short Description (Optional). Damage% (Up to 120%) Stat (ATK or INT). Effect (Optional). Range. Element. OP."

    - Name: First of all, just make up a name for your Skill.
    - Short Description: You can add a flavour text if you like.
    - Damage%: How much Damage the Skill inflicts (If applicable). Keep it up to 120%.
    - Stat: Either being ATK or INT.
    - Effect: You can add an additional effect to your Skill if you like (Poison, Paralyze, etc.)
    - Range: The distance (In Cells) of your Skill.
    - Element: The Element of your Skill. Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Ice, Nature, Dark, Holy or Neutral. Have all elemental skills correspond with your character’s personality! Neutral does not carry any elemental bonuses or penalties.
    - OP Cost: How much OP the Skill costs. Remember, if your Skill is powerful, expect a higher OP Cost.

[b]+ Name:[/b] Short Description (Optional). Damage% (Up to 120%) Stat (ATK or INT). Effect (Optional). Range; Element. OP.

[b]R-Ability[/b]: Reaction Ability. This is an Ability which activates in response to a certain action. You can't start with one, and you can only have ONE R-Ability at a time.
[b]S-Ability:[/b] Support Ability. This is an Ability that is either Active or Passive. An Active S-Ability is always taking effect, and a Passive S-Ability will need to be activated at the user's own will. Passive S-Abilities can only be activated ONCE per Battle. You can have TWO S-Abilities at a time, but you can only start with ONE.
[b]X-Ability:[/b] X Ability. This is an exceptionally powerful and destructive ability, mainly because it has the power to pierce the enemy’s DEF and SPR. An X-Ability will be able to inflict an immediate Instant Death Status to a non-Boss Character with less than 50% HP. Give your X-Ability a Name and an Element (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Thunder, Ice, Nature, Dark, Holy or Neutral). The Formula of calculating Damage through an X-Ability is the following: Base ATK/INT x2 (x1 if it has a Range of "All Enemies") = Total Damage. An X-Ability can only be used ONCE per Battle, and will deduct the general Experience Gain slightly. An X-Ability field should look like: "X-Ability: Name: Short Description (Optional). 200% (100% if Range is "All Enemies") Piercing ATK/INT Damage. Range: 5 Cells. Element." Of course, this is the OFFENSIVE version of an X-Ability, that means you can go ahead and try something unique, I will see if it's approved or not.

    [b]~ Stats ~[/b]

Stats are all determined by the GM (Me), so you shouldn't worry about them.

    [b]HP:[/b] Hit Points
[b]OP:[/b] Optical Points (cannot be increased upon level up)
    [b]ATK:[/b] Attack Points
    [b]DEF:[/b] Defense Points
    [b]INT:[/b] Intelligence (Magic Attack) Points
    [b]SPR:[/b] Spirit (Magic Defense) Points
[b]Evasion:[/b] Evasiveness Percentage (cannot be increased upon level up)
[b]Movement:[/b] Movement Points (cannot be increased upon level up)

[b]Skill Points:[/b] These are a vital addition to an Statistical Roleplay. Skill Points are awarded at the end of a Battle to every Character, and are used specifically to purchase Abilities. A-Abilities cost 1 SP, S-Abilities cost 2 SP and R-Abilities cost 3 SP. Skill Points can also be used to "Upgrade" existing Skills.

Reason For Joining D.Y.S.T.O.: When Shade was young, his parents were killed by some Medium agents causing him to live on the streets. After so many years of living on the streets, he heard of D.Y.S.T.O. and decided to join them to get revenge on Medium.

Profession: Bounty hunter: People who claim this profession live a life of hunting down people for money and sometimes selfish reason.
Weapon: Sharp Knife: A standard kitchen knife that you could find in a kitchen.
Armor: Clothing: Normal everyday clothing that people wear.
Accessory: Hunter's Ring: A ring that a hunter gets when he comes of age. (+5 HP)

  5. RE: Segregation -Revamped- [SU/OoC]

    Boom.

    Name: Tomari Spalding
    Gender: Male
    Age: 26
    Level: 1
    Next Level: 0/10
    Appearance:
    Height: 6'0
    Weight: 167
    Nationality: Japanese/European

Manner of Dress/Other Details: Tomari dresses himself in what one might call "typical male clothing" (at least during present time), wearing a green, white, and black-squared plaid shirt and a pair of black shorts, easily provoking the mind to believe that he is naught but an ordinary citizen. He has a European, middle-of-the-road build with some muscle, with strikingly vivid blue almond eyes, a bit of a five'o-clock shadow, and thinly-designed lips, all upon his wispy-like-constructed facial structure, and thin jawline.

Personality: As you might've been able to discern via his clothing, Tomari is a fairly laid-back, elbows-in-the-air, arms-over-shoulders, "Yo, bro, let's laugh a little more!" type of guy. On the overall, he's friendly and understanding, and tries to keep all of his friends in a cheery mood, impenetrable to even the destruction of the world itself.

Reason For Joining D.Y.S.T.O.: At a tender age, Tomari was exposed to how truly cruel man could be, having witnessed his own uncle, in a drunken rage, beating his father to the ground in a bloody pulp in their own living room. While his father lived, and his uncle sent to prison, Tomari was scarred for life. When his uncle left prison, he spoke pro-Medium in the interviews, claiming that they were the ones who let him go early, right before ending up in the people-trade. The circle of life is cruel, especially with the Medium involved, so Tomari has joined to try and dull the world's blade of unjustness. (SO CORNY LOL.)

Profession: Biologist: Patient, resilient scientists who use their time to study the science of life, for the betterment of life.
Weapon: Shovel: An all-withstanding, wood-handled shovel found in most household garages.
Armor: Clothing: Normal, everyday clothing that people wear.
Accessory: Ryuzaki's Coin: A so-called holy golden coin passed down from generation-to-generation on Tomari's mother's side of the family, now in Tomari, the only child's, hands. +5 OP

    A-Ability: Biology

+ Toxin: The biologist snags a bottle of purple potion out of his pocket and immediately throws it at the ground, near his opponent, where the fumes quickly travel upwards towards their facial orifice, where they enter, poisoning the victim. 80% ATK DMG. High potential of poisoning. Range: 3 Cells. 6 OP.

+ SnakeBite: The biologist takes a snake-headed grabber from out of his pocket and shoots the head towards his opponent, nabbing onto whatever it comes in contact with first. 100% ATK DMG. High potential of paralysis. Range: 2 Cells. 10 OP.

    R-Ability: None.

S-Ability: Degree in Science: Max INT is boosted by 10% until hit.
X-Ability: nO-Zone: Tomari, using a special formula, designs a biological potion so potent that the smoke emitting from it is enough to strike all opponents, forcing the air out of their lungs. 100%. Piercing ATK DMG. Range: All Enemies.

    ~ Stats ~

    HP: 20
    OP: 20 (Ryuzaki's Coin +5)
    ATK: 4 (Shovel +1)
    DEF: 2 (Clothing +1)
INT: 3 (Degree in Science +1)
    SPR: 2
    Evasion: 3%
Movement: 2 Cells (Biologist Job +0)

  6. RE: Segregation -Revamped- [SU/OoC]

    Name: Lawrence Caustier
    Gender: Male
    Age: 24
    Level: 1
    Next Level: 0/10
    Appearance:
    Height: 5' 4"
    Weight: 120 lbs.
    Nationality: French
Manner of Dress/Other Details: He has fairly tan skin and short silver hair of which he keeps styled in a manner that most of it is spiked back save a few loose bangs. Sweet hazel eyes and a dashing smile correspond nicely to the sharpness of his face. He prefers to dress formally, but not all the way. For example, most of the time, he'll put on a nice dress shirt and pants, white and black respectively, but neglect to don a jacket or tie, and he ditches dress shoes for black or brown sandals. As a distinguishable trait, he has a tattoo on his left upper arm of a black heart wrapped in red thorny vines.
Personality: A sly, smooth-talking gentleman, he's used to getting his way with his words. A good man at heart, he doesn't abuse his verbal prowess for manipulative means, but it certainly comes in handy in some occasions. He's quite inventive and imaginative. With those traits, it only makes him that much more dangerous.

Reason For Joining D.Y.S.T.O.: Son of a rather important businessman and a powerful female artist, he was raised in a rather rich, cultured environment. After a rough divorce between his parents, he lived with his mom and practiced sculpting, but ditched that to build things. The advanced technology provided him the means to create many things, such as miniature, limited function robots all on his own. He studied this in college and continued to hone his skills for a year or two after graduation. In that time, his father had fallen to the Medium, up and vanished. Worried that his mother might meet the same fate, he offered his services to D.Y.S.T.O. in hopes to put everyone's fears at rest, including his own.

Profession: Engineer - Genius meets imagination as the one who claims this profession utilizes technology and spare parts to create. What it is he creates...is only bad for those who oppose him. (Recycle)

*Recycle: Capable of tearing apart constructions. This consumes an Act action on any given turn.

Weapon: Handy Wrench - Not the most high tech tool there is, but it gets the job done.
Armor: Light Plate - Hastily fashioned armor worn under the clothes. Just a light scrap piece of metal, really.
Accessory: Bag of Parts - Burlap sack of various pieces of metal and circuitry. (HP+5)

    A-Ability: Construct:

+Enchance - Power Gauntlets: With metal and circuits, and a bit of a spark of electricity, a dangerous weapon is created. Weapon changed to Power Gauntlets. Stat bonus = Current weapon ATK stat bonus + 1. Damage output +10%. 2 hit basic attack. Range: Self. Can't be used in conjunction with another "Enhance" Construct. 8 OP.

+Assault - Blade Disc: Transforms a jagged piece of metal into a razor sharp disc of which the user hurls at a distant opponent. 120% Atk Dmg. Range: 3 cells. 8 OP.

+Subjugate - Mecha Gremlin: Sets about constructing a mechanized automaton in the shape of a small ghoulish creature programmed to seed chaos through enemy ranks. Summons Mecha Gremlin. [Commands: Attack - Smacks enemy with metal hand. 100% Atk Dmg. Range: Adjacent cell. Basic attack. / Misfortune - Sabotage of enemy weapons. 100% Atk Dmg. Range: Adjacent cell. Chance of Misfortune 10 OP. / Rubble Toss - Scrap metal flies through the air and hits target, but who threw it? 100% Atk Dmg. Range: 3 cells. Chance of Confusion. 8 OP.] [Stats: HP = x0.75 User HP, OP = x0.5 User OP, Atk = x1.0 User Atk, Def = x0.75 User Def, Int = x0.1 User Int, Spr = x0.25 User Spr, Evade = x0.5 User Evade, Move = User Move] Range: Adjacent cell. Can only be used in conjunction with one other "Subjugate" Construct. 8 OP.

+Support - Bioremediation Column: Brings into existence a steel column and fills it with liquid medication that undergoes evaporation and is expelled through the top of it in the form of gas that can be absorbed by the skin to alleviate pain and injuries. Creates Bioremediation Column. Ally characters standing in a surrounding cell recover 10% Max HP each turn for as long as they remain in the space. [Stats: HP = x0.75 User HP, OP = x0.0 User OP, Atk = x0.0 User Atk, Def = x1.25 User Def, Int = x0.0 User Int, Spr = x1.0 User Spr, Evade = x0.0 User Evade, Move = 0 cells] Range: Adjacent cell. Can only be used in conjunction with four other "Support" Constructs. 8 OP.

+Assault - Power Drill: Uses tools and scrap metal to form an deadlier tool with which to lunge into an enemy and set it to work, drilling a hole in the enemy's body. 150% Atk Dmg. Range: Adjacent cell. Chance of Blood Loss. 14 OP.

+Support - Wave Jammer: Creates a steel column and programs it to release an impulse into the air that jams the effect of Opticks making them less reliable or more difficult to use. Creates Wave Jammer. Enemy characters standing within a 3 cell radius have their ATK and INT reduced by 5% for each turn they remain in the effect radius and it takes 2 turns to use their Opticks. [Stats: HP = x0.75 User HP, OP = x0.0 User OP, Atk = x0.0 User Atk, Def = x1.25 User Def, Int = x0.0 User Int, Spr = x1.0 User Spr, Evade = x0.0 User Evade, Move = 0 cells] Range: Adjacent cell. Can only be used in conjunction with four other "Support" Constructs. 12 OP.

+Enhance - Blast Cannon: Takes some time to put together a high energy plasma cannon, charges it up, and prepares to go on an onslaught. Weapon changed to Blast Cannon. Stat bonus = Current weapon ATK stat bonus +4. Basic attack range: 4 cells. Added Effect: Paralysis to basic attack. Range: Self. Can't be used in conjunction with another "Enhance" Construct. 16 OP.

+Subjugate - Harrier Unit: With trollface on, the user constructs a massive mechanized bird capable of versatile flight tactics equipped with an array of multi-hit, high round machine guns. His parents told him about all of the bad things about The Medium and Kiv believed it. 10. RE: Segregation -Revamped- [SU/OoC]

lol, since this is also OoC I wanted to comment XD

Segregation is going at a good start with Nate's awesome post and my semi-awesome one :p. If this roleplay lasts all the way to the end, it will probably be amazing as hell.

  11. RE: Segregation -Revamped- [SU/OoC]

Hey guys. Awesome job so far! This is really turning out to be a promising RP, as Fallen said, and I'm looking forward to pushing all the way through with it. It'd be awesome to have this as ZEJ's first finished Roleplay~

Some of you have been having problems with the font that I've been using throughout the RP; Lucida Console. I've decided to upload it for you guys so that you can see it, and use it accordingly in your posts. If this works, just go ahead and install it into your computer's Fonts folders... I'm sure there are tutorials that are just a Google Search away for the various operating systems.

  12. RE: Segregation -Revamped- [SU/OoC]

Hey guys, posting briefly from my phone while I have wireless connection. Segregation is on brief hiatus until Saturday when I am able to post the map update with the enemy movements; something I thought I did when posting, but apparently forgot. You're welcome to post as Zio did, (thanks Zio!) but it isn't a requirement as I can't fix my mistake just yet.

Sorry guys! Do have your posts ready, though!

EDIT: Okay, I'm back and the thread has been edited. I really hope we can get the ball rolling on Segregation once again!

  13. RE: Segregation -Revamped- [SU/OoC]

Hello again, all you Segregation-interested (or not interested, either or)! I'm pretty sure that all of you have noticed by now that I've sort of been neglecting the shit out of Segregation, and that it has been at a very sad standstill for the past month.

Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that I'm a really bad stat-GM. While Segregation as it stands works best with my continuing plotline, I'm not really all that capable or formidable an opponent for what I was hoping to be a really challenging RP, nor do I really have the time to make exciting layouts for battles and unique, interesting enemy characters (while still balancing schoolwork, irl commitments, and the other RPs that I am in here). Shadow offered to help me out with the stat side of thing, but there's only so far I can go to on his graceful charity alone.

I've posted up a poll, just to see what you guys are interested in. Please, do not let my position sway you in any way. Roleplaying this freeform would still take a lot of commitment for me, possibly moreso if I want it to follow the plotline I've got set in my mind.

Really, this is just another interest check. Would you guys be willing to continue this sucker? And if so, what is YOUR (not including me and my level of commitment in your decision) preferred method of continuing this?

  14. voted for freeform. Whole I love statplays, I personally just think that seg would work better as a freeform. Plus, I just think it'd work better without lolpowers.

  15. ^ I Agree with Nate. Segregation would be better as a freeform, basically how it used to be before it was made into a statplay.

  16. I am undecided and my opinion will be voiced when I have one.

  17. Y'know, on second thought, I think I may as well just continue this on as a statplay. I've got a half-decent idea for what I'm going to do with the plot, so I may as well let it continue as-is... Hope that's alright with you guys. Sorry to get your hopes up for change, but I think that I'd rather continue on with how it is with a better plotline in my head (and with more extensive RPing in between battles, if you'd like), than making up some halfassed plot on the spot to make the swap to freeform.
