  1. Users should now receive one rep for each member they refer. Do you agree?

  2. It might make sense if we have a dummy account for that kind of thing, but the reps are generally given based on people's opinions on one another, not what they have done, per se. I'm not really sure if this would be plausible...

However, there is a counter built into the forums based on who referred how many people to the forums... Really all you need to do is have them type in your name on the registration page.

  3. I think that's a great idea. Reps are mostly a sign of positivity, and let's face it adding more members to ZEJ is the most positive thing we can do. More members means more activity and more people to RP with. Why not add an appreciation rep for them?

  4. crazE put it in the words I was looking for :)

  5. Well, so far we've got a split vote on the poll. I'm going to abstain from voting, but I'll leave this poll open for another 10 days. Vote on this, guys. Do you want to have a reputation given for each member you refer? It could give some sort of motivation for people to go and get new members. I'd be glad to make a dummy account for this sort of thing if you are interested in it, I suppose...

  6. The thing is though that Rep Points essentially do nothing. Sure, it's cool to have a high number of Rep, just like it is post count, but one can only receive 1 point (or 2, depending on whether they've been granted admin privileges or not) per member, and if we were to just give Rep Points out like this, then we'd be creating a million different dummy accounts all with the same purpose. It wouldn't be a huge hassle, sure, but having all of these bot-esque accounts sitting around our site just doesn't sit well with me. The more members we have over a period of time, the more bots we will eventually need for each referral per member, and, sooner than later, the whole site will be 75% dummy account, 24% active, real life people, 1% Zantok.

So, in my opinion, this would be a no-harm-done type of situation if we had more of a badge system than a Rep Point system, or both, for that matter, where we could give members different badges per successful referral. Of course, this system would have to operate via PM, with the newly-referred member PM-ing an admin of their choice (myself, Eebit, Flamezone, Dark[Furry], Zantok, or Knightmare, your choice entirely) and telling them which current member referred them so that member may receive their shiny new badge. In fact, I should look into that to see if that's possible with our mybb3-ish system we have here. Would be interesting.

Man, I'm so convoluted sometimes. loooooooool Because in essence, what I'm saying is, "Rep and post count are just a number... But if you can get a shiny badge... ZOMGBBQCHIPS."

  7. OOoooh shiny badge!

  8. With a final vote of 6-2 in favour of no rep for referrals, I think its fair to say that this can be locked tightly up and sealed away. The badge system is incredibly tantalizing, however, so I will talk to Furry/Darkmaster about getting that sort of plugin installed for us~
