[Original Skeletal Statplay] Inversion

Discussion in 'Interest Checks' started by Silver, Jan 6, 2014.

  1. Okay, so I don't have anything wonderful and fabulous planned out, but I do have some concepts I wanted to throw out there to see response to.

Firstly, you may have noticed the term Skeletal in the Interest Check tag––simply put, this is my way of saying there probably won't be a flesh to every aspect of the story. I've got a concept and a slight idea of what I want to do with it, where I want it to go, but I don't have all the minuscule threads and doodads all figured out like I usually do. That mixed in with the fact that I want a roleplay that the players also help me steer makes me want to try this out. Not totally planned, and definitely variable. Sound interesting?

Secondly, the idea is all kind of jumbled fragments. The basis of what I have right now is that we play ourselves. Our characters. On earth. In the real world. Somehow, by some strange (or probably not so strange) twist of fate, we all cross over into this inverted version of our world. The Inverted World. It's sick! It's crazy! There's stuff we could have never even dreamed possible going on, and it would be one helluva ride if it weren't for the fact that we're (semi) normal people and this shit is scary as hell. I mean, think about it, suddenly being in a world where monsters and shit are out to eat you? Yeah.

However, there's another part to the idea that I'm currently debating. I keep getting these thoughts that each character should have an affinity for an element (or two) which is why I'm on the fence about this part. It all depends on the amount of interest, if there is any to begin with. But anyway, my thoughts are basically this: When we go to the inverted world, our affinities flourish. We'll be able to actually use them, hence our transformation from average joes into semi-hopeless amateurs.

I don't know how well that'll go over, but if we do one person for each element then we have a total of eight people playing. I think I can go so far as to double up with the elements, so long as the doubling up makes sense. I don't think Fire and Ice/Water would suddenly collide in one person, they're just too different (although Light/Dark might be passable if you want opposites.)

Anyway, that's what I have for you people. Let me know what y'all think~

  2. Personally, I would love something like this.

Far too often, I see roleplays where characters are comfortable with the fact of battling monsters that are entirely ferocious and not cuddly. Seeing a shift from something of comfort, to something that might be quite life-threatening, entirely make this RP delicious as a concept, even if you don't have a concrete tunnel you want this story to be stretched in.

It seems like something that would be a challenge to write for...

    so challenge accepted!

  3. This sounds interesting and I am intrigued to see it taken further.

  4. Alright, just an update. I've kinda gotten a feel for the story a bit better and the elemental thing is out. Not that you can't do something with elements, but you aren't required.

Is anyone else considering this? I don't think I can do it with just the three of us.
