NaNo15

Discussion in 'Creation Station' started by Gold Dullahan, Nov 2, 2014.

  1. Guess who's participating in this thing?
Resident Flower, Eeb? Me, of course!
It actually started yesterday, but whatevers... There may or may not be twins named Brittany and Jake.  :x

I forgot to comment on this thread! I think it's pretty rad that you're doing NaNo; I know that it's a really gruelling task, and I applaud you for attempting to undertake it. I hope that your story turns out well! Maybe you can give us some sneak peaks along the way? :> cool name drop btw i bet jake is a totally rad character

Definitely could not participate in this myself, though. If I had endless time to do it? Maaaaaaaybe. I just do not have the attention span to focus on this sort of a task, haha.

One of the least-spoilery things I can find:
    “Hey Leona”  It read.
“What is it now?”  She hastily texted back
“Why do vampires believe everything you tell them?”  Leona looked at the text and was about to reply until another text appeared on her screen-
    “Because they’re suckers.”
    (Context: Leona is a half-vampire)

    I'M DOIN IT 4 REALZ

I'm nearly 3k words in. I might have gone overboard with the frills and details, so I'm very behind. >_>

  5. RE: NaNoWriMo

At time of writing I am at 12,595 at I'm not entirely sure how.

  6. RE: NaNoWriMo

Up to 9k and struggling with a really obvious plot hole.

  7. RE: NaNoWriMo

Super excited to see you guys undertaking the challenge!  I completed NaNoWriMo four? five? years ago and it was really tough so best of luck!  I won't be partaking this year but I intend on taking part in NaPoWriMo in April.

  8. RE: NaNoWriMo

I never thought I'd come close to making any progress, but... 19,924 words. Woo hoo.

  9. RE: NaNoWriMo

How did NaNoWriMo go for all of you who participated? I won, for the second year in a row now, with progressing being made on my third Realm of Belief book. :)

  10. RE: NaNoWriMo

I think somewhere past half-way? Unfortunately I ended up getting a project for school and couldn't finish!

  11. RE: NaNoWriMo

Welp, it is a pretty up-there word count for those with a tight schedule. Better luck next time, if you go for it again. :D

  12. RE: NaNoWriMo

Yeah, about that... I kind of fell a mere hundred (115) words behind the minimum count of fifty thou, unable to pad up any more paragraphs without vomiting from the excessive floweriness. That being said, I think my end product was actually rather good compared to my usual writing standards, so with some editing I might serialise it here on ZEJ.

  13. RE: NaNoWriMo

Next time, break out the random talking llamas.

Really would look forward to a serialization, if that's what you're aiming for!

  14. wot
well that was inaccurate af, past-me! I think I meant more like, somewhere past a quarter of the way- which is true. SO, bringing this back because, of course, we're in the month before NaNo and the site's been relaunched.

    1. Title update- Shortened and with added year.
    2. OK, but is the start of my NaNo gay enough?
    3. K but how do you high school + APUSH + NaNo + remember to eat?
    4. Did I just start a piece of writing with some sort of word-building document instead of jumping in? holy shit
    5. Did I start with something not immediately at least somewhat intense or serious? (my last NaNo starts at a bar with people whispering about... let's just say a rumor?) hwat teh acktooal fack
    6. I also just wrote my first 'romantic scene' (I mean they're probably like 7 at the time but there's some sort of intimacy to that scene I think, so)
    7. OK BUT WOULD WE LIKE THERE TO BE LESBIANISM BETWEEN PSEUDO-PERSIAN PRINCESS AND THE PSUEDO-EUROPEAN PRINCESS? asking for science

  15. Notice! Only just found out there's a code to have a little widget appear to show your NaNo stats! You know- in a post, your signature, whatever.
    More on that over here.

  16. hella!!

  17. AHAHAH-
Ok, so I'm writing this where we switch between 3rd person perspectives focusing on a different princess. So last chapter with Amira (our Pseudo-Persian) is like, really heavy. Just, the entirety of the chapter. And then the one I did today is for Frona (our Pseudo-European b/c I'm still not sure which subset of European culture to really focus on). While it does get heavy, the start is literally her and her younger brother talking with Amira's dad over tea and like, lil' bro is just teasing her about her crush on Amira and the dad doesn't get the (shall we say) 'slang' that he's using and is sitting there confused while this princess who was utterly composed and respectful two seconds ago is yelling at her brother to shut up and totally sputtering and being a dork and yes.

They're going to get married and adopt an entire orphanage and like 7 seven cats and no one cAN STOP ME

  18. Assuming psuedo-Persian princess is pseudo-Muslim, it might be prudent to have pseudo-European princess be from one of the parts of Europe that was part of a caliphate-- Sicily comes to mind immediately, as does Muslim Spain. But then again, I've always wanted to read a story set in the Sicilian emirate?

  19. I'm not really sure how similar I want the countries to be to real life locales. I'm thinking that religion probably shouldn't be included much. Tbh, 'region-influences' are really only affecting the naming schemes for places/people/languages and the native food/wildlife. Name wise, I suppose we have a bit of a more English-leaning society? However I was thinking of adding some things more akin to Spain and/or France. I suppose Allaria is quite similar to Sicily in the sense that they're both islands- albeit with different proximities to the nearest 'mainland'. I guess I can work in something similar to Sicily or even Seychelles since are really the two main islands I can think of... Hm...
