Mages of the Tricore OOC

Discussion in 'Out of Character Discussion' started by ShadoeMayari, May 2, 2013.

  1. This is the OOC for the roleplay between myself and AmberSerpentofGlory. Although it was a one-on-one over on Magnolia, anyone who is interested is free to join. This here is just gonna be one huge info post about how the world works and stuff. So, yeah.

Esse: Esse is the “life force” in the world of Mages. There are two types of Esse, positive and negative. Esse, in a way, is “contagious” in large quantities, e.g., someone who has a lot of good Esse will spread happiness and joy to the people around him. On the other hand, people will become depressed when around someone who has a lot of bad Esse.
Positive: Positive Esse is present in people and items that are well loved. When you think of good Esse, think of desire, contentment, dedication, right judgement.
Negative: Comes from people or things that are hated or neglected. Think anger, loneliness, betrayal, fear.
Esse can change from good to bad and vice versa very suddenly since it is based on emotions and state of being. So if someone who has lots of mood swings has and awful lot of Esse in them, that Esse will change an awful lot.
    Tricore shards:

Children tend to be overflowing with good Esse. Whenever a child creates a close bond (doesn’t have to be emotional) with an item overflowing with good Esse, they become a Mage. As long as they remain having a surplus of good Esse, they will stay a Mage.
The item that gave the child is the child’s Mage Item, which doubles as their weapon. A Mage Item will only work for the Mage who wields it, for example, if Emirayha were to try to wield Kleis’ dragonfly sword, it will simply transform back into a charm. Also, if Kleis were to lose her powers, a child could not become a Mage using her charm. The bond between a Mage and their Mage Item is permanent, even if the Mage should lose their powers. A Mage Item can think and speak to their Mage telepathically, but they usually don’t have much to say.
Standard Mages can summon familiars, creatures born from Esse. Summoning a familiar permanently weakens the Mage, but the familiar can aid them whenever, even if the Mage is not transformed. Like the Mage, the familiar’s power is based on the item.
The main difference between a Mage Item and a Familiar is that an Item only has powers when the Mage is transformed, while a Familiar can use their powers whenever.

Reapers, on the other hand, are born from lots of bad Esse. Buildings that have been abandoned and areas that have suffered from disaster tend to have lots of Reapers. Unlike Mages, Reapers do not need a human to be born and therefore are born at a faster rate.

Types of Mages: What type of Mage a child turns into depends on what the child is feeling when they first receive their powers. Although a child’s personality may change as they grow older, their Mage type will remain constant.
Standard:Can stay transformed longer than any other Mages. Other than clothing, there is no notable change in Mage’s appearance. They are born when a child is content with their life and have no desire to change it. Also, because they have greater amounts of good Esse, they can summon a familiar.
Reverse: Have stronger magical attacks. Reverse Mages switch gender when transformed. They are born from children that enjoy having an active mind (i.e. they like to work and challenge themselves).
Mature: Physically stronger than other Mages. When transformed, they appear to be 5-10 years older and age mentally as well. They are born from children who are idealists and want to help others, even if their ideas aren't exactly realistic.
Forbidden: Much faster than the others. When transformed, they have non-human characteristics (animal features, angel wings, bodies made completely out of stone, etc.), but still look at least 75% human. These are born from children with wild imaginations and want more in their lives.
