gah why do I not have a life

  2. Confound this show, it drives me to hate ponies even more.

  3. 80's MLP > 2010's MLP.

  4. *virtual high five*

  5. Just wondering - why do you guys hate MLP so much? Though I'm not really a big fan, there are far, far worse cartoons out there. *fhdrigvhbgvtgbdAdventureTimefgbfhdfghj*

  6. Probably because of a lot of the "bronies" (awful term!) they, like me, have net trying to shove the show down their throats. It's really annoying. I myself just don't like seeing ponies plastered all over everything.

  7. Adventure Time is waaaahahahahayy better. =< I don't like MLP as in the show itself; it's compounded when like Dark says bronies plaster ponies all over the place.

  8. Again, I think everyones problem with it is that there are a bunch of 30 year olds who fap to ponies so much that they have decided to make it their life, and so they post them everywhere, there signatures, on youtube, and ofc many, many other things which are so lengthy going into detail would cause a 3 page long rant about how wrong it is.

  9. The very word 'bronies' actually just pisses me off, tbqfh

It was a lot worse this year when it intruded upon my real life i swear i was about to pummel some of the kids

but then again it was funnier that most people who i know have no clue what a brony is

  10. I don't think this will make me popular (in fact, I anticipate that I will be getting a LOT of flak for it), but I wanna say this anyway: 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' (also known as the G4 incarnation of MLP), is actually one of the few shows today that is worth watching. And yes, that does mean I like it. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are plenty of interesting shows out there (I'm also a fan of 'Phineas and Ferb', one of the better Disney shows), and everyone has their preferences. What I say may or may not change your opinion, but like I said, take from it what you will.

So apparently no one else here likes Friendship is Magic? Oh well. Who am I to judge? The 'brony' motto is "Love and Tolerance" after all. We accept and respect the opinions of those who don't like the show. We don't hate, we love and tolerate. While I'm not too keen on plastering pony content at every place and at any opportunity (I find it bemusing at best, annoying at worst), that's just how memes work. Rage Faces, "OVER 9000", Nyan Cat, "Derp"... They're always overused, and MLP macros are no different. The internet won't stop until memes are present in the minds of unborn babies (Exaggerating of course, but you get my point.) ...And don't call me a hypocrite for starting this topic with posted ponies and now denouncing it; this is the SPAM section for a reason, y'know...

Why am I defending a show "for girls"? Because it's genuinely entertaining. Funny. Heartfelt. Quirky. Relatable. Of course, it can be expected, given Lauren Faust's (the show's creator) track record. Remember 'The Powerpuff Girls', or 'Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends'? The other two shows that Lauren worked on? I watched those shows when I was younger AND enjoyed them. Of course, if people are turned off by the candy-colored ponies that are ever-present in the show, then that's fine. Their loss. ...Did I mention that they once pulled off a Big Lebowski reference? And have a pony that pays homage to Doctor Who? What about the time they made a beer joke? Twice? (And they say this show is just for little girls!)

Honestly, people I know actually harass me because I love Katamari Damacy, which is ALREADY a colorful and quirky game with an odd sense of humor, and people who know me know that. How is MLP much different? In fact, they (the haters I know personally) even said they prefer MLP to Katamari. Blasphemous? Of course. Katamari is god. It will always be my closet obsession. But Friendship is Magic is different. It's (gradually) become a favorite of mine. It has great production values, the art style is cute and expressive (IMO), the musical numbers (like Winter Wrap-Up, Art of the Dress, Smile Song, and even the Main Theme itself) are catchy as all hell, and the characters are just so dynamic, rounded, and likable.

So call me a 'brony' if you want. Personally, I hate labels like that. I'd rather think of it as a 'standing'. And when the other side is just 'haters', then I think its obvious which side I'd be on. All I'm saying is, don't judge a show without even watching it. I used to think the same as most other thought, that MLP:FiM was "bad", but after watching a few episodes, I was hooked. Sue me. Bash me. Haters gonna hate. I honesty do not give a BUCK about it. Love and tolerate, my little zejians.

There is some truth to that statement. If you ask me, the brony fandom is rather 'divided' if you will. There are the sickos that Cid described, along with the guys that post ponies every which way, and maybe even a few other categories along those lines. But then there are those (like me) who appreciate the show for what it is, and, like any fan, follow along and support the show any way they can. I've listened to fan music, saw fan art, read fan fictions, and even played fan GAMES all centered around MLP. And guess what? A lot of it is really good. Hell, they remade Final Fantasy 6 with pony sprites, and new dialogue and scenes. And it's somehow HARDER. So don't assume all bronies are the same, 'cause that's NOT true.

TL;DR? I like the show. But I don't mind if others don't. It's all a matter of preference. Just don't bash it for no good reason.

(Sorry, I hadn't meant to turn a 'post-it-for-da-lulz' topic into Serious Business, but I wanted to get my opinion out there. And even this doesn't cover my whole view. Hmm, I think we may need to start a topic for discussing cartoons and stuff...)

  11. Okay, as a fan of past MLP generations (except G3 - what a disaster that was) and as someone who's neutral on the current MLP generation, here are my views.

Agreed with your point about memes. Those will always be EVERYWHERE on the Internet, and it just so happens that MLP G4 is both a cartoon AND a meme.

Yeah, Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home were (and still are!) awesome.

Also, having only watched about... ...10(?) episodes of G4 MLP (as I said before, I'm not really a fan, but it's decent enough to watch if there's nothing else to watch), I haven't really noticed any of the above references that you mentioned, but from what I've seen (as well as, apparently, from the opinions of many a "brony"), I believe that one of the main characters is actually a
    lesbian
, which, if such is the case, is very daring for a kid's show.

    a) Agreed on the production and art.
    b) Not on the music, though - it's just not for me.
    c) Again, I only watch G4 MLP on occasion, so I wouldn't really know too much (although I do know some stuff) about how realistic the characters really are.

Ha, I remember when I posted about my love of 80's MLP at another forum in 2008, and got nothing but brickbats for it - I know that feel, dude.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Cid here. The MLP fandom hasn't exactly covered itself in glory with its conduct - hell, some of the 80's MLP videos I like have received many hateful comments from bronies! Yes, there are some decent guys in there, but in terms of the fandom, it's like Sonic (sorry, Dark and Flame, but you have to admit that the Sonic fandom isn't really the brightest) and Twilight - the actions of the stupid are so loud that they drown out the smart, logical ones.

    Agreed.

    Wait right here...

    EDIT: Here's that thread now!

  12. I'm fully aware the Sonic fanbase is full of asinine morons -- that's pretty much its definition. However, when it comes to MLP, I've seen sone "bronies" having a bit of a double standard when it comes to another fandom I'm a part of -- furries. I've seen some claim that furries are disgusting (not entirely true, the fandom does have its sick, twisted individuals, but a lot of the furries I've spoken to are in fact huge self-loathing trolls and generally very intelligent people), meanwhile their own fandom, as you said, isn't exactly in the positon to be all high and mighty.

  13. I wasn't denying that - in fact, the hate for furries among bronies is one of the "stupid things" I was alluding to. XD

  14. ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies ponies

  15. go ahed i hate this plase anywey i hop u all dy and bern in hel i hav mor gfs than u anywey and lik 50 feraries in my garaje

  16. So, how many people here have actually watched the show? I used to totally ignore Bronies, and just not care for them. Then a friend of mine in real life got hooked, and I was making fun of him for it. He told me to watch the show before I judged any further. Planning on watching the show, expecting it to be stupid, I got quite the surprise.

The show, is actually fantastic. Yes, I totally hate to admit it, but, it is. The characters, the atmosphere, the lessons, they are all cute, relatable, and well animated. It's quite astonishing how it has captivated me as so. I guess you could call me a "Brony," for lack of a better word. I fit more into the group where I silently watch the show, not fap to it, not post fucking pictures of ponies everywhere, and NEVER buy the toys. Glowbo has summed up my feeling about the show very well.

So, before anymore of you start judging the show based on the fanbase with it's noses in the air, take some time to actually watch it a bit. I'm sure even you, Eebit, will be able to see how the show shines out amongst other cartoons. I do admit though, most of the fanbase is quite annoying. Scrolling along a forum and seeing ponies everywhere, I dunno, I can see how everyone thinks they're shoving it down their throat, hell, I used to feel that as well. I know that feel bro

But yeah. Give the show a chance. If you have a heart that sees past the picture, and an intolerable love to cute things, you'll probably like it. :p

    fluttershy is best pony

  17. I did watch a few shows. Not many - like ~10 - with my sister, but both of us got bored with it quickly. IMHO it's pretty cute and all, but my preferred kind of show leans to something more on the lines of Phineas and Ferb or Kid vs Kat - you know, impossible reality. But I've watched a few episodes. That's not where myy problem lies.

I do not dislike ponies because of the fanbase. Anyone who does should go to a shrink. I don't -dislike- the show per se. It's just there. I don't like it either. I dislike the fanbase, or at least a vast majority of it. I don't car whether they buy the toys or have perform procreative activities with the merchandise; I dislike it when they try to make my eyes pop out (literally) with over 9000! brilliantly nd gaudily coloured gifs and macros. I mean, I love everyone equally except those who put me into rage mode, and having to scroll through a thread with tons of pony pictures annoys me -badly-. I don't -want- to watch the show, stop trying to subliminally coerce me into doing so!

EDIT: IIRC I've even loved and tolerated the heck out of ponies too; I've been in an RP where all the characters except mine where anthroponymorphic equines with names that came from MLP FiM.

  18. I don't really want to watch it either. Besides the fact that I haven't had TV service since we cancelled it last year, cartoons like MLP aren't of any real interest to me anyway.
