Chrono Trigger: The Ride of Time

Discussion in 'Creation Station' started by nintendofanboy, Jul 3, 2012.

  1. This Chrono Trigger Hack I made up

So...Yeah, uh...I came up with this idea of a Chrono Trigger hack. It's called Chrono Trigger: The Ride of Time. It's about a young thief boy, lives in the year A.D. 1990 who teams up with a bunch of people in the timelines, 60,000,00 B.C., 10, 590 B.C., A.D. 900, A.D. 2400, and has to take on Lavos, who has recently been resurrected somehow. Unfortunately, I can't get any good freakin' Chrono Trigger hacking tools because all the ones I'm using are acting like crap!

    Tools I needed:
    Sprite Editing
    Level Editing
    Map Editing
    etc.

So what sort of storyline are you looking at, here? Obviously it sounds like you've got the intentions to hack Chrono Trigger, but do you have the know-how or the storyline in place to do so? Maybe you'd be better off switching to something like RPG Maker, as it is far more customizable and flexible in that sense, allowing for scripts to modify the battle system to show up just like Chrono Trigger's if you have the know-how.

I'd also like to hear a little bit about the characters you plan on having. Obviously this seems to still be at the starting stages, so flesh it out! Give us a little sampler to whet our palates and salivate as you work away on this project. :> We'd love to hear more, and perhaps you might be able to either 1. bounce ideas back and forth with the other members, or 2. get some help from some of them. I know that there are a couple people with some spriting know-how, as well~

  3. I can't seem to get the RPG Maker Eebit was talking about, so can someone get and email it to me so I can get started on the Chrono Trigger hack? Also speaking, here are 3 of the main protagonists:

    Name: Takio
    Type: protagonist
    Group: Thieves
    Element: Aero
    Home Year: A.D. 1990
Description: Takio is a young orphaned thief who was raised by a black mage. He learned magic from him. Takio spends most of his time at Leene Park. There, he met a white mage and dark ninja. He was also summoned by Crono, in ghost form, who is only seen and heard by Takio. Now he embarks on a time traveling adventure to form past and future allies and defeat the resurrected Lavos.

    Name: Yuar
    Type: protagonist
    Group: White Mages
    Element: Lightning
    Home Year: A.D. 1990
Description: Yuar is a girl who lives with a group of white mages. Her mother was a white mage too. Takio met her in Leene Park when a crowd of people ran over him and Yuar trips over him. She has a big crush on Takio during half of the story, and teams up with him.

    Name: Renzo
    Type: protagonist
    Group: Ninjas
    Element: Shadow
    Home Year: A.D. 1990
Description: Renzo is a shadowy and mysterious ninja. Rumors say that he was raised by his pet dog Raid, which died when he grew up. He met and challenged Takio in the night at Leene Park. After he was defeated, Renzo made his escape and was found at Porre Forest in the Day. Renzo tells Takio and Yuar about a the statue of Crono was missing in Leene Park. He joins them on the adventure.

There's also a Day/Night cycle: if you enter a resting area, you have a decision to either wake up at either day or night.

  4. I merged your threads together because I don't personally think you needed to make a new thread. The Edit and New Reply buttons exist for a reason ;)

As for RPG Maker, it's not exactly a hacking tool, but it does allow you to build your own RPGs from scratch. There is a scripting (coding) language called Ruby built into the program which allows for the modification of the systems - that means that you can make the game appear like Chrono Trigger once you really get going. RPG Makers XP, VX, and VX Ace can all be found at this website:

    http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/

There are trials for each of them, but they will cost you money unless you... *ahem* find "other methods" of getting them in full. I also recommend you check out an RPG Maker community (if you Google that, you should find one with scripts for Chrono Trigger-esque systems); they'll offer you lots of help if you are looking for it.

However, one word of advice is don't solely plan to be the "ideas guy." Everyone in the game-making community has ideas - that's the way things go. I've grown to realize that everyone can make their own storyline and draft up a cool concept, but before you can actually hook people into your project, you need to give them something to sink their teeth into. If you made some graphics (drawings or sprites for the characters that you've made), then that's a good start. Custom-made graphics always tend to snag the attention. Or if you can make innovative code, that will get the help of some artists.

Show off some real stuff so that people know you're committed; otherwise, everyone will just write you off as not ready. Best of luck!

  5. I created a few parts of Takio using the Crono Sprites, but when I was activating the RPG Maker VX ACE and XP, it said connecting to activation server and I was waiting for it to start, but I stared at the screen for 6 hours for something to happen and nothing. I have windows XP and I may need help on finding out how to get it starting faster.
