    Where did I come from?
    Where the blue winds blow…
    Where am I going?
    Where the white clouds flow…
So if I dream, I’m sure to wake…
    - Klonoa, Empire of Dreams

Have you ever wondered what is a dream? Why dreams exist? What dreams tell us? Logically speaking, they are visions, illusions, pictures that your mind creates while you’re asleep. Though from my own perspective, dreams were everything to me. I felt a sort of connection when I would dream, almost as if they were a representative, coming to me to tell me what the future had in store. This dream however was different from the others, so different that in fact, it surpassed a dream, it even surpassed reality. A strong sunlight had awakened me to its powerful rays beating against my face. Blinking, I noticed only an abundance of tree leaves almost blocking out the sky, the sunlight barely passing through them in small patches throughout the leaves. I picked my body up from the soft grass, right underneath a smaller tree that I was resting upon. I looked around, dazzled by the scenery in front of me. The forest from within was amazing, a natural beauty untouched by man. Though the forest did have such a natural grace, it was engulfed mostly in darkness, dark enough that it had further affected my line of sight. Phased from drowsiness but curious to know where and what I had stood before, I looked around the forest, but found not a single thing stood out from within the abundance of trees. Logically speaking though, this was a dream wasn’t it? My surroundings, from the very trees to the wind gently dancing along the air had felt so real, but it was almost too real to believe. The cool wind that gently collided against my body felt real, and I could feel the many shades of green leaves that fell to the ground.

Perhaps this was a lucid dream, a dream where you’re aware that you’re dreaming and can control whatever happens around you. Assuming that it was, I had never had the chance to actually experience a lucid dream, so this was a first for me. If this was such a dream, it was as great and as wondrous just as many people have told me. But now questions came up as I kept still after attempting to recon my surroundings. Where exactly was I? I had never seen this forest before in my life, and it definitely looked nothing like the forest that I had lived nearby. What was this dream? What exactly would this dream be trying to tell me? Curiosity lingered, but standing around waiting for something to happen wouldn't help much. The small tree that proudly stood among much larger trees that doubled in size and in height. The patch of light from above that pierced the leaves would probably explain my surroundings. Gripping on a couple of thick branches that poked out from the smaller tree, I attempted to make my way up, hoping to find something other than leaves covering the ground. As I poked my head out from the smaller tree, jumping onto the larger trees surrounding it, I made my way to the very top of the tree. Nothing but green surrounded the area. Though the bright blue skies had been as clear as could be, splattering white, fluffy clouds and a strong sunlight in its canvas, nothing from afar changed. This was literally the middle of nowhere, and my suspicions were correct. But my question still remained unanswered, what was this dream telling me?

”Come down from there.”Suddenly broke through the leaves that rustled along the dancing wind. Surprisingly, the voice was soft but I hear it very clearly. Looking down I could see nothing but the branches that held my weight, so I proceeded to climb down back into the darkness from within. Nothing, not a soul had been around my vicinity. Scratching me head, I could of sworn that someone had been below me, but there had been nothing that stood out from the scenery. As I made my way back up onto the smaller tree, determined to make my way by moving from branch to branch, tree to tree, the voice appeared once more. “Is there something you see?” The voice had been clear like before,so clear that I could of sworn the owner was right behind me. My head quickly had twirled to greet the owner of such a gentle voice, the rest of my body immobilized by pure curiosity. There was nothing behind me though, but this time I was concerned about what had begun to torture me with a growing curiosity. Was I insane, just hearing voices and believe that others were around me? Did this dream suggest of a slight insanity dormant within me?

Though, at second glance, something within the scenery had slightly changed. I noticed that the ground I rested my feet upon had no longer had a soft feel. In fact, there had been no grass, rather it had been a rough dirt that had surrounded the smaller tree. But I haven’t moved away from where I awoke from, so what was the explanation for this sort of change? In fact, the grass that had been a beautiful add to the scenery had turned into a path, neatly guiding my eyes towards a small opening slightly covered by a group of bushes along the side. The light that shined upon the smaller tree suddenly had changed its position, shining towards that very path that led into another section of the forest. My hands abandoned the bark of the tree, and I turned towards the path in front of me. I casually walked ahead of the path, the light guiding me into the small doorway of this part of the forest. As I walked ahead, the light from above had suddenly died, nonexistent within the darkness that further crippled my vision. I couldn’t see quite well, but very small, linear rays of light had managed to break through the opaque wall of green from above. As I continued down the path, the tree from the surrounding sides had closed on the path. “Wake up.” Once more that gentle voice slightly paralyzed me, looking around but seeing nothing but pitch black from beyond the two parallels of the path’s exterior.

Wake up? But what did this voice mean by wake up? Was it to wake up from this so-called dream? Did I miss something or was I being ignorant of something that stood out within the forest? But what would even stand out from darkness and an abundance of trees? I continued on towards the path, but I had been cautious of my surroundings. My vision had been a thorn, but my hearing would probably guide me through this mysterious forest. “Wake up.” The female’s voice had began to haunt me, she seemed to be so close to my body yet so far away from my mind. She was almost like a siren, desperate for my attention but easily pulling me into her clutches. Her gentle voice had rang in my head, I felt as if I had insanity had slowly began to eat my rationality. “Wake up.” There it was again, the female’s voice had stopped me dead in my tracks. As my ability to reason had slowly diminished my instincts had begun to take control of me. My hearing slightly heightened, and my body had felt sensitive to movement. Determined to find this female who literally had scared me, my senses sharpened and I stood still ready to make a move.

And there it was, the wind that had danced along the air had changed in current, opposing nature’s whistle that threw such a cool feel. Though I was completely blinded, the change in current meant that someone definitely had been in front of me, and I responded with a slight jab, lunging a fist out into the air. The sensation of a hand completely blocking my move made me cringe a little. The hand that I felt was smaller, smoother, and much more gentle than that of my fist. It definitely was a female’s hand, and out of curiosity I questioned the this female’s motives. “Tell me, what do you mean wake up?” Not a word came out from her,her gentle hand still clumping my fist. “Who are you? What do you want from me?” I questioned her once more, slightly raising my voice to see if I would get some response. It was sad to say that even though she was right in front of me, the darkness from within the forest completely shrouded her within the shadows, not even her face could be seen from where I stood. My curiosity to see who she was got the better of me. I slowly moved my arm back and moved to grab hers in an instant. Slightly pushing the female towards me, the light had suddenly appeared before the two of us.

My eyes suddenly greeted by a light that had surprisingly managed to pierce through into the path. Though I will admit I had been ready to throw another fist purely out of fear, what stood before me had immediately threw me to hesitate. I felt that this dream had just given me the epitome of beauty, throwing my into a temporary paralysis, my eyes unable to escape such a true and fair woman. She had bright, short blue hair with a mesh of what looked like a grayish-white on the front tips of her hair. Her eyes were a beautiful silver, so stunningly pleasant and deep in color that you’d probably see your own reflection from within. She had a serious expression on her face, and I was compelled to let go of her hand as if I had tainted such fairness. As I backed to the side and bumped my body onto one of the trees, she continued to stare me down. Most of her body was covered in a white cloak, but her soft white skin had left such a sensation on my hand. The light shined upon her, she was divinity personified, my eyes unable to escape the her very presence.

“Who are you?!?” I asked, regaining my balance from the shock, shifting my eyes onto her very own. A bulky guy like myself, lost and confused in his own dream, wondering what was going on, what this meant. Though I had no clue as to who she was, my heart felt that I’ve seen her somewhere previously. The chances of that were slim, however, due to the fact that I wasn’t very ‘popular’ figure from where I came. The sound of twigs cracking from the ground broke my concentration, the female slowly approaching me while keeping her eyes set towards me. “What answers are you looking for? Just wakeup…” Why had she so determined for me to wake up? I couldn’t help to approach her cautiously, but as I made approached her the light had once more died before me. She had disappeared before my very eyes, and I once again faced loneliness within the darkness. The scenery this time remained the same, but it seemed that I was reaching the end of this path. An old lamppost slightly illuminated a certain distance around it, and bushes once more seem to cover the path, leading to another area of the forest. Curiosity once more led the way, determined to find the female once more.

The dirt path had transformed into a cobblestone road, the light could be seen from the outside of this narrow corridor-like area. More lampposts to the side led the way into a much more larger area, leading a lost male into a small village surrounded by the forest. As I approached the gates of the village, I expected to find others here roaming around, allowing me to interact with other beings within my dream. You could hear the leaves rustling from the trees, and the sound of running water from a small fountain nearby. The village seemed to be a cul-de-sac, and wooden houses neatly lined up around a large circle of grass and a cobblestone design within the center. I approached the wooden buildings out of interest, and tried to look inside them. The doors of the houses that I had try to make my way into were sealed shut, and windows in every house had shown nothing but darkness, as if the light from the trees in large patches had not penetrated into the houses. A fountain stood at this center, adding a bit of a touch to the village square. However, not a soul had appeared around the village, and so peaceful was this village that you could even hear the sound of the wind dancing through the air. Leaves fell from the forest trees, floating and making their way onto the ground from outside the village, some hitting the water that flowed from the small pipe within the decorated ceramic of the fountain. There was literally nothing to find in the village, a ghost town like those you’d see in horror movies where one by one the ‘protagonists’ are picked off and killed.

“Why are you still here?” The beauty that had appeared before had spoken once more, but I had not been graced by her presence. Her voice definitely had caught me off guard but I needed to find her, a gut feeling had told me that she could explain what this dream was all about. She wasn’t going to satisfy me with a simple ‘wake up’, I needed to have some perspective of this dream. People would probably think that insanity lingered and controlled my perspective of reality compared to dreams filled with fantasy, but unlike many, most of my dreams actually meant something to me. Footsteps coming from the village gate immediately caught my attention. It had to be the female, and if I could just catch up to her I could see if she’d answer my questions. Without hesitation, I quickly moved away from the village square and had ran back towards the village gate.

“You’re stubborn aren’t you? You should of woke up.” A sudden deep voice had stopped me dead in my tracks, and I turned to look back to find another mysterious figure. The figure had been completely enveloped in black, its very body shaped in the form of a human. His otherworldly features added to his enigmatic style, including eyes completely blood red and claw-like hands. On his left hand, he had a tight grip on a sword, its tip tainted with dried blood. You could slightly see a facial expression at a close glance, emanating a very hostile glare towards me. “Afraid now, are you? Do you believe that this is a dream, foolish boy? You have much to learn…but time is short, for you shall die now.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Was this figure actually serious? Did he plan to kill me? Something seemed very out of place though. If I was to die in my dream, it’s not like I would die in reality. When you die in a dream, you only experience a bit of shock right afterwards and immediately wake up. Even so, its determination to rid himself of my very presence had left me in a state of fear. “Prepare yourself, boy!” The shadow made no hesitation what-so-ever to charge towards me with his sword aimed at my torso. Even if death was only a simulation in dreams, I wasn’t exactly ready nor brave enough to experience it. Heartbeat rising, droplets of sweat quickly trailing down the face, I quickly ran out of the village through the gates. At the end of the cobble road, sounds of leaves crunching beneath my fee along the dirt path made me easy prey for the shadow. As I turned, the shadow had stopped running, casually making his way towards the scared male. Without no hesitation to stop, I felt a sudden pain quickly trickle down the front of my body. The tree that I had originally found myself on had signaled a dead end, the light that had appeared from above had been replaced with the moonlight, slightly illuminating between the tree and my own body.

It was a dead end, and my heartbeat continuously rose as death itself slowly came for me. The shadow increasingly had shown his menacing demeanor, approaching and flaunting his sword around as if it were a plaything. So looks like it was the end of the line for me and my dream, eh? Backing away from the figure onto the smaller tree, I felt a metal object clash with the back of my foot. As my eyes momentarily turned away from the shadow, I noticed that the metal object had been a shield. Old and rusted, the shield at closer glance had its edges slightly bent along with a couple of bashes and bumps ruining the heraldry on the front. It had been engraved with a fleur-de-lis in a deep blue, and two ribbons trailing from top to bottom. Though it had looked pretty beaten, I couldn’t complain, quickly moving my left arm back picking it up my its head. I quickly shifted it outward and had grabbed it by its iron handle, covering a good portion of my body. I’m not only to normally fight, but since I had been immediately threatened, I didn’t hesitate to keep the shield close and ready. The shadow had looked at my attempt to defend myself, and in response had burst in laughter. “Hah! Do you really believe that a shield will stop me from killing you? Wouldn’t it be easier to just let me kill you rather than torture you in battle?”

At this point, fear had taken over my body, but I wasn’t going to let the shadow use this fear to his advantage. Cautiously approaching it, I kept my shield steady and my eyes sharp onto his own blood red eyes. Metal began to clash within the forest, and it broke the silence that it had surrounded itself in. Throwing the first strike, the shadow had positions his sword and quickly lunged his arm outward, poking the rusted shield that covered my torso. I had ducked my head onto the shield, pushed back and losing my balance for a quick second. Quickly in retaliation, I moved in to charge at the shadow and used my shield to ram it against one of the tree. With my body weight adding damage, the shadow had not expected me to respond with an attack, pushed back onto one of the trees near the dirt path. The moonlight had gotten brighter, and my line of sight had not been as crippled as it was before. I could better see the shadow, picking its body up with its own sword, chuckling in interest. “I underestimated you, boy.You don’t seem to be willing to give up…perhaps giving you a quick death is out of the question now…” I refused to surrender my own life so easily, the fight was only beginning. The shadow’s arm lunged outward once again, continuing to throw out jabs and pokes at my shield. As it continuously tried to push my back, my back literally had touched the tree giving me little space to move. The shadow’s last throw allowed me to move to the my left, twirling my body in that direction as his sword fell right past me. My body turned to the right and I once more rammed him to the ground, laying my body right on the shield.

I felt something excruciating as I landed my attack. The sword the figure had held seemed to pierce through my chest, the rusted shield completely shattered and had disintegrated from my hands. I made a crucial error, ramming the shadow with my body weight rather than simply pushing him back. The sound of blood spewing out from my body left me in a horrid pain, and as the shadow picked himself up once more and left me on my knees. A deep cut along my stomach had left a puddle of blood along the path. I began to lose my conscience, and felt as if I was spinning in circles, moving from left to right as I managed to balance my upper body. The sounds of laughter from behind glorified the shadow, watching my suffering. I wasn’t surprised though, since an everyday college student like myself wouldn’t be expected to win against this mysterious being. “It was interesting to see your foolhardy human attempt to take me down, but your luck has run out.” But it was a dream right?? I should have been wide awake by now, back in the hotel in London in bed. But I was here still, in the middle of a forest with some otherworldly being watching, enjoying my very death.

“Wake up…you need to wake up.” The voice…the female’s voice had interrupted the shadow’slaughter, but where was she? Why was she hiding? “What?!? You again?” The shadow quickly jolted in front of me while looking around for any sign of the female. It looked scared, worried and in a bit of shock as it began to flaunt its sword. My eyes slowly shut as I spun in place, but I could hear the screams of pain near me following a thud on the ground. Blinking with a very blurry line of sight, I had been blessed once more with the presence of the female. The shadow that had proclaimed his victory in laughter had fallen to the ground, and a soft, gentle hand had felt against my check. She had gotten on her knees, slightly smiling while she held my body up against her. I was lost in her eyes, and as I tried to speak my pain only had taken over my body, and a slight hiss escaped my mouth. “Wake up...” I couldn’t speak, and my eyes completely shut and my I slowly lost any motion from my body. I hit the floor, the feel of soft carpet flooring had greeted my face. I jerked from the floor and had hit a nightstand right near a bed. I quickly stood holding my head in pain, and realized what had just happened. I patted on my chest and looked around at what was my room. I felt completely fine, there were no signs of blood or scars on my body. As I looked out in the window, the night was still young...it had all been a dream after all. “Not quite…” That voice…

Click! A blade swerved into position along the clip I tightly held. The Swiss army knife that I carried around the city at night flew across the room, slightly missing the figure behind me moments after I woke up. The room was dark, except for the moonlight phasing through my window, where the figure stood covering most of its body. As if I wasn’t paranoid enough that it felt like I just died, the sound of another person in my room at the middle of the night freaked me out further. “God-damnit! Who the hell are you?!” Screaming at the top of my lungs probably didn’t help, especially since I was in a hotel where I had neighbors more than likely sleeping by this time. I looked to my door as it seemed that people were moving around from outside, but not one person had knocked at the door. I turned back to where the figure stood, but the figure had disappeared. Normally I was still half asleep even if I had suddenly woke up from a nightmare, so I dismissed the figure as just an illusion within my imagination. The time was eleven at night, so people probably were still out coming back from the city. Normally I’d be dead by now, and I wasn’t really interested in thinking about the dream I just had, so heading back to bed sounded like a great idea. “I’ll worry about the wall later.” Yawning, the blade steadily hanging on the wall slightly moved after recklessly throwing it. I jumped back into bed and slowly began to fall asleep, already beginning to snore the night away.

“You’re easily scared aren’t you?” Again, my body jerked up as I looked to the other side of my bed. I could recognize that voice clearly now. The figure, sitting casually on my bedside had been the female from my dream. I couldn’t see her clearly though, but when I lit up the lamp on the nightstand, she looked exactly as I had seen her in my dream. Her bright blue hair with the mesh bit on the tip of her hair, her snow-white face with a perky nose, deep silver eyes and a white cloak covering most of her body. Her facial expression looked somewhat serious, her eyes locked onto mine as I stood up from the bed. She looked around my room and got up approaching the window looking out into the night sky. The curtains fell covered most of the moonlight that could barely be seen from inside of the room due to the lamplight, and looked to where I had been. “Hm, England is a beautiful place isn’t it?” What? “Woah, back up a moment. Who the hell do you think you are- Actually no, what the hell are you doing in here!?” I could imagine the whole “Now is not the time for that!” joke back from a game that I used to play with some friends in elementary, but this was actually a pretty serious question. Who the heck was this female? She looked like she was somewhere around my age, if not younger, but she had a cloak that looked like something from the church or from the middle ages, which completely stood out from the ordinary modern world clothing. It wasn’t as if she had didn’t stand out even more from her hair color as well, but I was seriously annoyed by the current situation I was in. She moved to the desk next to the window, and looked at the knife hanging on the wall. Prying it out, she flaunted it on her hands while responding casually. “This knife seems to be something you’d strike with rather than throw. You’re not very smart when it comes to fighting aren’t you?” That ticked me off, I wasn’t in the mood for jokes, especially since valuable sleep time was slowly draining away. I aimed to grab her by the cloak but in quick response she slapped away my hands and had glared at me. “Relax. I’m not here to stalk you or anything. Besides, I’m technically not real at all.”

Real at all? “What do you mean, who are you?” I reached for my phone and watched as time went by.Only ten or so minutes have passed, and I wasn’t really in the mood to be hearing explanations.

My name isn’t important right now. What is important though is for you to listen to what I’m about to explain to you.”

    “Explain?”

“Correct. I’m going to go out of my way to assume that what you believe you just experienced was a nightmare, correct? To an extent, it was, but there is something much more to it than it just being a nightmare in general.”

“What do you mean? Aren’t dreams just images or illusions that we have during sleep? I mean, to an extent, I always believed that these illusions, whether nightmares or dreams, were just precursors of something to come in the future. I always took it as if it was telling me of something that is to come. If it isn’t just a dream, then what would it be?

“You’re an interesting one…impressive, you seem to have a high regard for these illusions known as dreams or nightmares. Allow me to further explain, since this of course, was not just any typical nightmare. These experiences that you are going through, this dream, this nightmare, whatever you’d like to call it…this sensation by sleep is just another reality. An alternate dimension in which you have been pulled into due to it coinciding with reality and some of its aspects. What you have just experienced is this alternate reality, the realm of dreams. A realm that because humans cannot explain, they simply dismiss it as something that is just fantasy.”

I was dumbfounded. What I had just heard was so unbelievable that there was no way I could describe this feeling. Truth be told, it just seemed well, illogical. There was no way in hell that what I just had experienced was another reality, another world. It just seemed to inexplicable to believe. But if I’ve just been told is actually true? What if what we dream is really…more than just a dream?

“So what you’re basically telling me is that, I have the ability to go into this realm of dreams, and experience it with similar aspects of reality?”

Correct. However, not everyone has this gift. O-“

    “Wait, gift?”

Indeed, what did she mean by “this ‘gift?’” Perhaps this was hitting, or rather smacking me in the face all too quickly.

“Yes, to dream to the point where you enter and become a part of this alternate reality is a special gift indeed. However, as I was saying, not every being in this world has this gift. Only a chosen few with great spirit and potential are blessed with such a power. The ability to enter the realm of dreams and to coincide your reality along with this alternate one is very rare. This comes with a price though, as those granted with this are not judged on the purity of their heart. Those who use evil as a means are just as able to gain this power just as much as those who use good as a means. Not only that, but even the supernatural can influence those with this gift just for their own benefit.”

“But, how did I get in the middle of this? I never asked for such a power, nor would I ever accept it even if given a choice!”

“Because you have potential to use such a gift, which means that you must decide whether to embrace such a power, or abuse it. T Because you have potential to use such a gift, which means that you must decide whether to embrace such a power, or abuse it. Even though there are a chosen few who gain such a power, there are still obstacles you will face, some of those who also share this power will be determined to have it all for themselves. To put it simple, your life is now on the line.”

My life on the line? That probably explains the shadow that had aimed to kill me in my dream, but if this was the case, I should have been dead by now since I would of still been suffering from the injuries of the fight.

“I know what you’re thinking, the fight against the shadow right? Allow me to explain that as well. As I have previously stated, the realm of dreams coincides with reality, creating reality from even from within the realm. Those that have this power are not based on their deeds throughout their life, so they can literally have a clean slate when they are granted with such a power. It is what they do from there on that will ultimately decide their fate and their side. That shadow that you had to fight was most likely a being from the realm of dreams sent to eliminate you.

“What would they garner from that? More power or something?”

“In a sense, yes they would. Those who wish to create chaos and despair will always be challenged by those wish to keep order and allow good to prevail over evil. In order for them to succeed, they eventually will have to rid themselves of those obstacles. That shadow had a killing intent, and with you out of the picture, there would be one less obstacle to worry about on the shadow’s creator.”

“But how would one determine what side they’re on? I would of never had known of this gift I’ve been granted had I actually died in the realm. In a sense, shouldn’t I actually be dead since I was killed in action during the last moments of my experience?”

“In a harsh perspective, this is all like a game with your life on the line. Anything can happen in this realm, even if it means getting rid of someone in order to achieve their desires. There are just as many risks that come with this gift just as there are benefits, and as twisted as it sounds, killing someone in this realm is something that just happens, unlike in this world, in this reality where such an act would be met with swiftly. As far as the aftermath of the fight against that shadow goes, I had to eliminate it first in order to heal you.”

After hearing this, I couldn’t help but stay wide awake for the remainder of the night. This was too much information to take in, and with a fear that I could die at any moment while dreaming gave me more of a reason to not sleep through the rest of the night. Truth be told, I still didn’t understand how exactly this worked, there was still so many questions of how this gift exactly worked, let alone the question of why I had to be one of these chosen few, what were the circumstances in which I would be able to use this gift, and even more. I had too many questions that I wouldn’t even know where to start.

    “I still don’t understand though. I don’t understand h-“

“You still don’t understand why? Why you’re in the middle of this? Why you’ve been given this power? In order to understand, time and dedication is key. You were granted this gift, the power known as [Lune Rêverie], the power to experience an alternate reality, the realm in which humans for centuries have tried to break into but have only pondered and contemplated on it. Your life is obviously on the line, and I have explained what you’re up against. If you want to live, put the effort in embracing and using your gift to its full potential, for there are many who would kill for such an ability, but even then would lack the potential needed to use it.

“I…I just don’t know…I am faced with something that I never thought I would go up against, and I have been given a power so exponential and so great that anything that people would kill for. I would normally sleep on few situations that I am presented with, but if I do, I-“

“Fear for your life? Fear that at any moment someone could come and slit your throat and then die while asleep? Of course, humans need sleep in order to function for the following day. With [Lune Rêverie] you’d think that your dreams automatically will throw you into the realm of dreams. It is difficult to explain exactly as to how, but dreams don’t always have to be connected with that reality.”

So, not all dreams have to be actually connected within a reality. However, this girl isn’t exactly sure as to how I can sleep with no thoughts of death or fear throughout the night. I wasn’t sure if whether or not I should trust her with this, but after giving me an explanation of the situation I was currently in, and with tomorrow being my last day here in England, I needed to sightsee as much as I possibly could. I turned to look at the time on my phone, and only an hour had passed away from our little conversation.

“If it makes you feel any better, I suppose, I will guard you from anything should you end up linking to a created reality, in order for you to enjoy your sleep and whatever you end up dreaming about.”

I felt a bit relieved after hearing that, and I made my way back into bed while she stood in the same corner she had appeared from. I felt uncomfortable, seeing as to I was about to sleep with someone just staring at me.

“Let me ask you something…you’re a human right?”

“Allow me to respond in asking how this was brought up?”

“Well…there’s no sign of entry from anywhere in the room…and the fact that someone just randomly goes from point A to point B without making a sound makes me question if whether or not you really are human.”

“Something interesting about your gift is that you also hold the power of the God from the monotheistic religions, though to a certain extent. What your heart desires can become a reality at an instant. I am what you have dreamt of, and as a result I am a reality from within the realm of dreams, and I am now a part of reality in this world. I am made to look human, but I have no origins. I have no mother, no father, no parents that have nurtured me. I have morals, I have ethics, based on what you have perceived me to live with. I am perfect yet I am imperfect, I am a body without a soul, a shell without a ghost.”

I didn't know how to respond to that, I didn’t want to say that she was something like a fragment that would only exist so long as I had this power still within my grasp. She sounded like an android or a doll without a soul or some type of spirit. While I still lingered with questions, I need to ask one more in order to clarify one more issue that kept knocking at my door.

“Before I sleep, I still have something that I need to find out.”

    “And that would be?”

    “Your name.”

“My name? A doll does not have a name. However, you’re persistent in knowing my name…perhaps I am a representation of someone you show affection to. I am known as Lucille.”

I turned the other way, and reached for the switch of the light, engulfing the room in darkness and a patch of moonlight. She to an extent had been correct, since she reminded me a bit of a certain character from a novel I’ve been keeping up with these past few months. The fact that she thoroughly knows of this leads to the conclusion that her life as a ‘being from an alternate reality’, almost like an android or some sort of futuristic being, was more than likely true. As I flickered the switch off, I jumped a bit when I realized that the girl also had jumped into the bed, and I quickly turned the other way from her. An awkward feeling had lingered mostly because I had never slept with someone else by my side, and because I tended to move particularly during my sleep. The room had once more been engulfed in darkness along with the moonlight piercing through the window, brightly shining its small bits of light onto a part of the room.

“Alright then, Lucille, I suppose I’ll be under your wing.” Dead silence filled the room soon thereafter, and in a matter of minutes I once more fell into a deep slumber.
