Pokemon GO

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Gold Dullahan, Jul 7, 2016.

  1. Actually, from what I've read, it doesn't count distance by vehicle. So I don't think that would work.

  2. How the hell would the app know? Going too fast to be walking or something?

  3. "Pokemon Go players attaching phones to ceiling fans to hatch eggs"

    Well then.

  4. Pretty much. I mean, we are talking about an app that tracks your location via GPS, and thus be able to detect how quickly you're moving from point A to point B.

Plus, the walking distance goes not only toward hatching eggs, but towards a medal for your overall walking distance (which seems to be pointless all things considered). And I currently only have 2.97km towards the medal in question. This could really only factor in my walk through the campus and a walk to one of the two PokeSpots closest to me (which I'm not doing again for a while...), because this is too small a number to factor in the ride to campus.

So yeah, it doesn't register movement by vehicle. It, however, doesn't stop you from interacting with everything else. Though I'd say PokeSpots and Gyms are particularly annoying to interact with. And that's because you'd have to be in range of them to do so, and thus requires you to go out of your way to find them. Granted, when moving by vehicle, you'll enter within range of one quicker than by walking. Problem is that unless it's at an intersection where the vehicle's expected to come to a stop for a period of time, with how fast you'll likely be moving as a result, you'll be brought out of range very quickly.

  5. If you are going faster than 12 mph (~19 km/hr) the game does not pick consider you to be walking. I've hatched three eges while stuck in bumper to bumper traffic coming home from work.

  6. Yeah, weirdly enough...

Went out for a bit, tagging along on my mom's outing. Figured out how to time PokeStops and got myself some well needed PokeBalls, which I used to catch an Exeggcute (had that glitch happen with this one, but it didn't screw me out of it) and a Magikarp. And from the occasional slow downs on the way back, one of my eggs are close to hatching. So I guess I'll go meandering again to get the last .03km I need lol

EDIT: Bit of clarification. I only had GO on for the trip back. Couldn't do on the trip to the initial destination because servers.

    EDIT(2): It's a Geodude!

  7. Fun fact: If you miss a Pokémon and the ball is rolling away, tap it! You'll recover it and then you won't waste as many balls trying to catch a Pokémon.

  8. Welp, wish I had known that sooner. Makes sense all things considered, but still... Though to be fair, the animation of the PokeBall just awkwardly rolling away whenever you miss is kind of amusing imo

  9. Just started today. And I gotta say, my Rattata is definitely in the top percentage of Rattatas.

Also my Caterpie is extra large...

  10. Didn't think I'd be doing one of these updates for this thread, but here we go...

Niantic's John Hanke finished a Pokemon GO panel at Comic-Con, giving us some information.

First off, we have artwork for our team leaders:
Their artwork apparently wasn't ready for the game's launch. Either way, these three are said to have more involvement in future updates.

Speaking of future updates, they are working on the trading. But they want to make sure the servers hold up, which of course means this will take a while...

An Eevee naming hack was confirmed. In case you're not familiar with it, you'll usually get a random Eeveelution if you evolve the Evolution Pokemon. However, if you name an Eevee Rainer, Sparky, or Pyro before evolving it, it will yeild a Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon respectiviely.

Pokemon Centers will eventually be added, along with customization options to PokeStops.

And no, there was no Legendary event at Comic-Con.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty happy with my collection so far... except for the fact that I still haven't found another Scyther...

  11. Speaking of teams, I'm curious, what did everyone end up picking?

I wasn't fond of the blurbs for Mystic and Valor (obligatory brain vs brawn teams, I guess) so I went with Instinct. Also Spark's thing about how their "intuition" is most likely tied into when they hatch just kind of makes sense and also Zapdos is great.

  12. Consider me to be spiritually Instinct until such a time as I acquire a smartphone

  13. Same here. I like Zapdos the best of the legendary bird trio, I find the theme more appealing than the others, and now it turns out Team Instinct has the most attractive (read: only male) leader (subjectively, of course; I'm sure Candela will literally be the hottest).

On a side note, I haven't even played Pokemon GO, but for some reason I already look forward to more generations being incorporated. Do people who have actually played it also look forward to this, or do you feel it's complete as-is and that adding in more generations will only make the game feel overloaded?

  14. I don't have much of an argument against it, and more generations ties into the whole "catch em all!" idea. It's also really fun to catch Pokemon you like (so far for me, a person who barely leaves the house, my Doduos) so more generations will expand on that with #MoreOfYourFaves.

Apparently they might eventually add trading (after a long time though, the serves are strained as is)?

  15. I like the fact that they're holding off on the generations at the moment, actually. Of course, I hope we'll get more later, but the fact that we're only seeing Gen I so far is a little bit of a relief. It would feel kinda overwhelming if we had to go out and catch all 700-something Pokémon right from the get go.

As for the choice of team, I went with Mystic mostly because I like the color blue. :p

  16. Yeah, Team Mystic!

And yeah, definitely looking forward to the other generations being added in... even though it's definitely going to be a while.... I really just want my Feraligatr!

Oh well, guess I'll just stick with my Tauros, Venomoth, Pinsir, Pidgeot, and Jolteon.

  17. I went with Team Instinct as well. Even though my favourite of the three birds is far and away Articuno, after I saw this gif pop up on the Pokemon GO subreddit, I was sold. I also saw a local Team Instinct group tweet out something that made me laugh. I think it was something about the teams looking like they were going to be Mystic vs. Instinct, with Valor just doing its own thing.

Several of my friends irl went Team Mystic, so it's nice to incur that sort of 'friendly rivalry' among my group of friends.

Regarding future generations being included, I'm with Cerby. I do like the Gen 1 'mons, and I appreciate the gradual roll out. It keeps the game feeling fresh for longer. But until Crobat, for instance, gets released, what's the point in catching all these Zubats?

  18. To be fair, you'll get EXP and hoard Zubat candies for that eventual Crobat. And otherwise use said candies to get more Golbats, which will give you EXP for evolving Pokemon.

Then again, that's more useful for Pidgeys and Rattatas, so idk

Meanwhile, today has been a strangely fruitful day for me...
-Just leaving class to go to the cafeteria, I ended up detouring because an Exeggutor decided to hang out at one of the PokeStops. And GO softlocking on me did not prevent its capture! Yeah, I felt really good catching that thing, and at 825 CP to boot.
-Evolved an Eevee to get a Vaporeon. Just need some more candies to get Flareon to complete my Gen 1 Eeveelutions collection.
-Did enough things to get myself to Level 12 so I can start gathering Great Balls.
-Evolved a Zubat to make a Golbat to make up for the one that escape me weeks ago due to GO softlocking. Now if only a Scyther can pop up...
-Caught a Growlithe on my way home.

  19. Has anyone kept up with Pokemon Go as the months have gone on? If so, would you say that the game has improved in any way? People seem to have some pretty widespread opinions on Niantic's last several updates, it seems, but it seems to be skewing more towards the positive most recently, too. I've not had the greatest time with Go since it honestly bored me without having a constant social output to really explore with friends over the past several months due to other reservations, but as time for that frees up into 2017 I might give it another shot (after not playing it since this past August) and just kinda want people's opinions on what I should be expecting if I do.

  20. I did play for a while over the summer when I went out with friends, but there was definitely a lull. Now that I'm back in school things have picked up again as I've been playing sometimes on public transport. The buddy system is definitely a great add, I was incredibly excited to find out that I could get candies for Siegel (named after my beautiful queen APUSH teacher who is my #mother) just by walking 3 km. Especially since finding Doduos/Dodrios can be such a hassle! Like Miitomo, I'm definitely not on it in a way that could be described as "active", but it's a fun little app to keep around for those times when I choose to hop on.
