The Last Story

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Jonno, Aug 18, 2012.

  1. So, I take it that the majority of you must've at least heard of The Last Story for the Wii in passing, no? If not, then Google is most certainly your best friend, but I'll go ahead and say a couple things to introduce it to you- It's the final game Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy) has developed with his company, Mistwalker, in-conjunction with Nintendo EAD Tokyo (Shigeru Miyamoto's in-house studio), before his retirement, with a soundtrack by world-famous composer Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy/Super Smash Bros. Brawl), and a compelling prose like no other, not to mention more action-oriented RPG gameplay than you can waggle a stick at (considering there's no heart-pounding waggle-action involved).

I finally picked up the title yesterday here in North America after a slight shipping issue coming off of XSEED's side, and I must say, even the box is epic. I'll be showcasing that near the end of this post, but it looks and feels much like a hardcover book on the outside- with its hollow inside containing a beautiful ol' art-book, and the game itself. Now - the game.... is ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS. There's nothing wrong with it from what I've encountered thus far in the five hours which I've binged on spent playing it. Fantastic artistic approach, and the way the story unfolds really is great. You're tossed right into the action from the get-go. Every locale is aesthetically wonderful and captures exactly the type of emotions which you should be feeling. It's just beautiful, and I recommend everyone who hasn't yet to check it out and pick it up as soon as they can.

For those of you that did- what are your thoughts on it?

Here's the obligatory case show-off gallery. If you want any other pictures (like of the disc, or something), let me know.

  2. I've been awaiting it's US release and the day I'd be able to afford it, but this thread just makes me hate the fact that I've got no money to blow D:

  3. Never fret! When you have money to blow, it's definitely something I can recommend as amazing. It loves up to its hype as one of the final official Nintendo developments to be released on the Wii before system's end. Everything about it is great, in my opinion. Just get it when you can, and enjoy it. :D

  4. I'll probably pick it up at a swap meet years from now ._.

  5. Well, at least it should be pretty cheap. XD

  6. Unless it turns into a collection item thing that's worth hundreds of dollars in which case I'd have to buy it NOW while it's cheap D:

  7. I kinda doubt it's going to go that way RIGHT away, though there were those limited edition copies (one of which I picked up and mentioned already) that you can probably still find at GameStop if you send out the order for it online or something. They were made to print, I'm not sure if they'll make any more the way that I mentioned earlier. >< But, you know, the game itself is what makes the real package and it's fantastic, and that game alone is gonna depreciate before it appreciates any bit... except over this holiday season on eBay- LE's will probably be sprouting by the tens at a good $80 - $90 a piece, and second prints at around $50 - $60, I reckon, but in general, everywhere else, it'll remain around the 40 - 50 range for a while, then it'll drop more for used GameStop copies, then in a good 5 years it'll be like $44 at GameStop used for no reason, then it'll be sold for $10 at GameStop during the Wii liquidation in like 6 years, just based off of what I've seen in the past... <- LOLRAMBLING - but I bet you can still hit a lucky strike and find it for a little cheaper than it is now in second print form, say, a half-year from now.
