Albert felt the blade in his back, and just that one blade was enough to crush the heart he still had. Sparks of shaded lightning crackled about his entire form. He dropped his blades and clutched at his head which was pounding like crazy. "I...d-don't....wh-wha...?" he tried to say, but wound up just roaring. He let go of his head and picked up his weapons silently. "Of the same blood or not, those who betray me betray the heart of Dalmaschior," he stated, suddenly lifting his head, a crazed look in his eyes--almost monstrous. He gazed right into Mai's own eyes for just a mere second before spinning around with his blades out, slashing Mai and Alexandra a few times before he came to a complete stop.

Nara chased after the sage who so desperately tried to get away from her. "No point running. Accept your fate," she said and slashed at the poor fellow in a flurry of blades. Blood flew across the area, splattering against the floor and walls. She turned to get a view of the king, but the damn column was in the way. She heard him roar...and heard the sound of blades slicing through flesh. That couldn't have spelled good news for the other would-be assassins.

Nerra couldn't believe her eyes. This deluded king felled his own niece. His family. Had he loved her, no blade would touch her, but now her body was beyond Nerra's healing powers...and tears fell from her eyes. She fell to her knees, chanting a small prayer. Warm sparks of light surrounded Mai and alleviated her completely of her injuries. The woman had dodged most of the blows, but there was only so much she could evade. She continued praying...for the girl with the parasol. For Alexandra. Who would be the next to fall? She had to do her best to keep them alive and fighting, but the king wasn't even giving her a chance to work her healing magic. His attacks were just so...brutal. What had he truly become? Not in immoral tyrant...but a monster.

  2. "No..." the White Knight gritted her teeth in anger and disbelief as the deluded man once known to be a good King, Albert Valentine, had slain one of his own blood. She wanted to run towards him and slash him with the dagger she tightly held, but considering the sheer power this man had shown... It would simply be deplorable. Hikari stood there, glaring at him. She knew when it would be time to act. For now, she would just stay back.

    Hikari waits...

  3. {Helena basic attacks Albert (E5). 9 ATK Damage!}
    {Helena waits...}

The vicious, monstrous roar of King Albert was all the signal Helena had as to the fate of poor Alexandra. Hearing nothing of the young noble from her close proximity, the Rookie Bowman knew that she would be unable to do anything to help the felled girl as she joined in Loresai’s fate. Enraged more by the sheer lack of morality that the ‘dear king’ had, Helena drew another arrow to her bow, and let it loose towards Albert once more. She did not know whether it would hit or not, but she knew that she would need her eyesight back to avenge her fallen allies…

  4. Mai quickly and barely dodged two wild swings from the chaos knight's blades, landing down nicely. But her friend had no luck; one blade had caught into Alexandra, ripping her to the floor.

Mai's fury seemed to build even larger, her body glowing with what energy she could muster. This man took no hesitation to strike down her niece. Mai tightened the grip on her sword, her fury finally sliding up her sword.

"You... beast...." she started to pant, her body rippling with fury. "No mercy!" Mai charged Albert with full-force, slashing his body powerfully and quickly dodging back to be able to form another counter. She felt her power fading though, causing her to reluctantly retreat to be able to conjure enough energy to open more power within her....

Bin came to a sudden halt as he saw Alexandra collapse to the ground. What a horrible fate for one's wedding day, if you could even call it that anymore. He slid across the elegant golden floor until he found him coming to a halt near the fearsome tyrant himself. He mumbled under he breath, not in an arcane chant, but cursing his teammates for not taking his much safer plan.

Wasting no more time, he concentrated his mana into a small spark, which began to play melancholy music, reflecting his feelings for Alexandra's state. He tossed it at the corrupt king, with any luck the spark would take Albert's own lifeforce to play the tune; however, this situation was not one that a man with good luck ends up in.

Albert unleashes the might of Pandemonium Paradigm! Let chaos engulf the world! 13 Piercing Dark Dmg!

Albert growled as he was attacked, and then one of his primary assailants had even gone so far as to run away. She called him a 'beast.' "You want BEAST?! I'll show you BEAST! YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!!!" he filled the audience chamber with the sheer power of his voice causing the entire place to tremble. A single tear fell from one maddened eye and rolled down his cheek, but he paid no notice. Dark lightning began to surge around him and gripped his weapons tightly. The entire atmosphere in the place seemed to be unsettled. The temperature dropped significantly. As Albert panted like a wild animal, his breath could be seen. "The Chaos Knight's true power....FEEL IT NOW UPON YOU!" With that, he slashed the air mightly with one of his blades causing a rift to open up. The sound that filled the room afterwords was one of immense horror. Screams and wails of anguish the likes of none on this world or in this realm of existence. It rent the heart in two in an instant and set the soul to shaking. Shadows poured from the rift and surged through the air, merely gliding at first before descending on the party and slashing them with blades of darkness. Albert laughed wildly as he watched the show, but there was still the tearstained cheek as a reminder that there was feeling in there...somewhere.

    Albert waits.

The shadows had ravaged her fairly well, but the effects of the opening of the rift seemed to have more of an effect on her. A headache seemed to appear out of nowhere, and her body was shivering due to the cold. Each time her blood dripped and hit the floor, the sound was amplified, and that only made her headache worse. She threw a cloak of mana about herself, making her invisible, and she made her way towards her sister who was in way worse of a condition than herself. "N-Nerra," Nara said weakly. "Make sure to get back and take care of yourself, okay?" With that said, she readied her daggers for an assault on the crazy king. He had to go down, and he had to go down quickly.

Nerra was shaken by the startling display. As soon as the energy began forming around him, she knew something bad was about to happen. And it did. All hell broke loose as he formed a rift out of which shadows emerged, taking out the conjurer's anger on her and her sister, along with those who were helping them out. Not a single soul escaped unscathed. It was impossible. She could still see the rift after the shadows disappeared. It was slowly stitching itself back up. The room was still horribly cold, and the screams that she had heard would not fade from her memory. That's when the sound of her sister's voice caused her to jump. She was invisible. "Don't worry, sister...I will," she replied gently, closing her eyes. With a small chant, sparkles of light surrounded her. They were much warmer than her surroundings. The mana patched up some of her wounds, but it was definitely not a complete recovery. Utilizing some extra strength and mana, she launched a weaker version of the spell at her sister, hoping to alleviate at least a little bit of her pain as well.

    (Bin waits)

Bin sat there, hunched up on the ground as his odd Arcane effect wore off and shadows tore at him from all around. He looked up from his somewhat pathetic pose to see the tear roll down Albert's face as the music emanated from his very lifeforce. He felt mixed emotions, he didn't like it when people were sad, even maddened people like this. Still, there was no magical solution here, Bin couldn't just join hands with Albert and the assassins and sing songs of forgiveness. Yet still, what place did a man like Bin have in such a conflict, a man who just wanted to please those around him...

Bin tried to ignore his base desire to befriend even the most monstrous of those around him and thought as to what would aid his side of the battle, this being the issue most important in the present. He himself wasn't going to aid in the battle, he wasn't worth healing, such an action would just done is sheer cowardice. He weakly got up from his position and stumbled over to join Hikari and Helena, the two nearest allies who were more capable of fighting this battle for him. As he walked that he noticed he had spent this entire battle walking around the food table. He wished he really was a baker right now, it would be a lot nicer than this... This was just justified murder.

  8. Not even Mai could avoid the nightmares beholding from the rip within the air, horrid and terrible screams echoing across the chamber. She could feel darkness dancing within her mind, causing her to grab her head as a migraine formed viciously fast. Her body shook as she suddenly felt blood drip from her nose from the pain, causing her to yell out. It was dreadful, an understatement of a word she could not describe.

Mai finally broke out of the horrid grip from the darkness, yelling out once more as a bright blue aura burst from her body. She wouldn't allow this man to take hold of her. Mai summoned more energy, warming her body as she picked up her sword, not recalling dropping it.

    [Mai uses Hidden Power!]
    [Mai waits...]

  9. {Helena uses Snakebite on Albert (E5). 9 ATK Damage! Chance of Poison!}
    <MP: 13/25>

Just as her vision returned, Helena saw King Albert towering over a vulnerable Mai. His rage contorted his features as he seemed to be in fury that was portrayed as a vicious agony upon his visage. The temperature dropped so rapidly that Helena could almost not bear it. She clenched her teeth, seeing the sheer ferocity that the tyrannical King was churning out of his body. He roared, like a wild animal preparing to charge, “The Chaos Knight's true power....FEEL IT NOW UPON YOU!” and opened a horrible rift in the centre of the room. Immediately, a nightmarish show of shadows paraded throughout the room, slashing at the party. Helena herself grimaced in pain as she felt the brunt of the attack firsthand.

As the shadows dispersed, Helena gazed upon the twisted figure who was once revered as the King of Dalmaschior, tears running down his face. Stoically, void of all emotion, Helena slowly said, “My liege, it is time we put you out of your misery…” With the small sentence said, she drew an arrow once again, willing her Mana to cause venom to drip from its tip, which in turn seethed in anticipation of being once more plunged into the skin of the King.

“This is the revenge of your niece, and the revenge of the innocents who have done nothing wrong; forever harmed by your corruption of the throne.” She let the arrow fly, the trail of poison splattering upon the golden floor, melting into the golden coat in a struggle to reveal its true form. Helena closed her eyes, and turned her head. The King was obviously no longer sane. She now felt a sort of remorse for her actions, yet willed herself to go on. We can’t allow him to go on harming the world…

  10. An otherworldly rift of nightmares from beyond spilled tangible terror and uncontrolled chaos over the entire, grand room, a chorus of inhuman screams resonating, and Hikari knew the King was in a last, desperate stand. Despite Albert Valentine being cornered, his strength ferocious, and his madness terrifying, he had taken heavy damage, and would fall soon... if they didn't fall first. Scarlet soaked her clothing as the somber apparitions, gliding randomly throughout the room, sliced her body with blades of concentrated darkness.

But it wasn't over. Not yet. The King would go down. Dashing in front of the Oddity Wizard--who seemed to be the most affected by the attack, the White Knight channeled her body Mana, sending a regenerative surge of this energy towards him to heal his wounds. She quickly turned to the King, gaze fixated on him. A smirk flashed across her expression.

"It'll take a lot more than that if you want to take us down!"

Albert casts Abyss Darkra on Hikari! 1 Dark Dmg! (INT) [Hikari evades Confusion]

    MP: 6/40

Albert didn't even turn to face the direction of the last voice he heard. He just held a hand out towards it, a swirling sphere of darkness forming in it. "Lost in the void of insanity...become as I am, knave!" he shouted angrily, firing the sphere at Hikari. It hardly had any effect, the swirls of mischievous dark energy trying to penetrate and scramble her thoughts, but failed to do so. Albert fell to his knees, aimlessly clinging to his weapons. He didn't feel like moving. He didn't feel like anything. What...had happened? He roared. It was all he could think to do. He couldn't make sense of anything, so he just roared.

    Albert waits.

Albert is Sapped for 4 more turns.

    Neutral Phase.

    Nara moves to D5.

"That's right. Roar like the pathetic excuse for a wild beast that you are," Nara spat coldly as she became visible, right next to the fallen king. Her violet eyes glinted with hatred as she readied her blades and set about slashing at the man before her without the slightest hint of remorse or hesitation. As she finished her onslaught, her daggers dripping with blood, she glared down at him. "Cutting down these people, and even your own niece? Deplorable. Do understand why you must die. No further harm must come to pass for the people of this country."

    Nerra waits.

It was over. Nerra turned her head away as Nara set about making the king feel his last. Think his last. Breath his last. In truth, Nerra didn't think he deserved it. The king, in the end, was a victim. Even after this was said and done, she knew there had to be something more behind it. This wasn't the end. Not by a long shot.

  12. The struggle....was over. The audience chamber became deathly quiet. Albert let off a final groan as Bin's spell sapped away the remainder of his life force, the sad song coming to an end as Albert's life did. Nara, still standing near him, directed Nerra to tend to the fallen. They could still be salvaged. With her trained ears, she could hear faint heartbeats--so faint that she had to strain to hear them, but hear them she did. The young girl turned her back on the dead king while Nerra set about casting healing spells on the two young women that had fell prey to the king's devastating attacks along with bandaging and cleaning their wounds with supplies she carried in a small bag of hers. The next thing Nara knew was that she was airborne. She had no idea what had happened, but she could feel the wind for a few seconds before hearing the cracking of her own bones before she collided with the wall and crumpled to the floor in a heap.

Albert Valentine, the supposedly dead tyrant, was standing, his body covered in blood and a dark aura surrounding him, lightning flickering within it. His eyes were a brighter gold than they normally were and his pupils were slitted. He turned slowly to a cowering Nerra. With a wave of his hand, he sent them flying into the food table. In midair, Nerra quickly chanted a spell, surrounding her, Alexandra, and Loresai in a green barrier, protecting them from the damage they would have received from the crash. As they impacted it, the table cracked in two and the food was sent flying. Alexandra was conscious by then, though only slightly so. Everything felt surreal to her, as if in a dream. She should have been dead. She didn't know what to think. She just wanted more rest...

Looking around like a wild animal, the king targeted Mai. Nara had been dealt with, but she was one that had irritated him greatly. He held out his hand and dark tendrils of energy snapped up from the floor, tying up Mai's arms and restricting them to her body, while holding her legs in place so she could not move. Albert grinned as he realized his prey was trapped with no escape, and he meandered menacingly towards the woman, each of his large swords dragging across the floor, filling the chamber with sound. As he drew nearer, he stopped, and raised one of his blades. "Long...live...the king...!" he shouted between labored breaths, and he swung the blade downwards.

A flash of azure light appeard out of nowhere and the king was sent flying back, though he recovered quickly and jammed his swords into the ground to stop himself. He stood up and readied his blades. Standing in front of Mai with rapier held out in front of him was Masquerade the Baker. From the air, Nothus descended, landing right behind Mai as Masquerade stepped away from her. "Just hold on a second there, girlie," Nothus hissed into her ear gently as he surrounded her with his large wings. Upon removing them, all the shadow bonds had disappeared and Mai was free to move again.

"You da--" the king began to shout, but was interrupted.

"Do I dare what? Save a young woman from your brutality? If that's the case, then yes. As a matter of fact, I'm not quite through either. Nothus." Masquerade's eyes were unreadable, but his mouth was set into a fine grimace.

"Way ahead of you," the avian reptile replied, taking off into the air. At his pinnacle of ascent, he turned and dove towards the king, spinning. A green energy surrounded him as he did, and a brilliant tune filled the air, one telling of triumph.

Masquerade could already see the king preparing to dodge easily, but he wouldn't be having any of that. "Furious onslaught of those who wish vengeance upon they who create catastrophe! Prepare yourself!" With those words, he raised a hand into the air. An azure circle appeared beneath the king that suddenly glowed with energy forming a vortex out of which numerous serpentine spirits slithered, snaking around Albert's legs and arms, trapping him as he had done Mai. The attack was executed in perfect timing. As Albert struggled against Masquerade's spell, Nothus hit him dead on, the green energy dissipating in the form of a wave that washed over all of the party, healing them of their injuries. "I have to say, as assistant bakers, you guys are not very good," he said to them and smiled. Albert was not only trapped by Masquerade's spell, but now he could not struggle against it for he remained standing in a deep slumber, Nothus standing right next to him holding his lance nonchalantly.

  13. Bin got up and faced the the baker and reptile with an embarrassed grin. "Well I suppose that's what you get when your only training has been a few mishap battles." Bin replied with a hint of relief. "Good thing you guys came when you did, I guess... but..." Bin stopped talking for a moment and looked at the king. "It doesn't do much to explain what even happened. This obviously isn't what would have happened under 'normal' circumstances, there's a bigger mystery here, one that I fear may have a more complex solution then simply trying to stab a monarch repeatedly." Before waiting for any relipes or other commentary form the girls, Bin clapped his hands and set himself alight with a light green flame, healing the rest of bruised skin and repairing some rips is his old, ruined robe. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he launched the same flame at Hikari, who had healed him just previously. He then stood there with a puzzled expression, he was curious to uncover the greater mystery that was hidden here.

  14. Mai watched as the king fell, his body draining of life. But, as Mai, thought, he hadn't much of a life to begin with nor a soul to carry. She smiled, until suddenly she saw the two stranger assassins fly off from the cause of the chaos knight. His maddened eyes connected with hers, suddenly making her freeze. This stiffness of her limbs was accompanied by black tendrils, suddenly wrapping themselves around her arms and legs and holding her down.

Mai looked up at Albert, who kept a maddened gaze locked with hers. He began charging, his swords dragging wickedly across the marble and shooting up occasional sparks. Mai tried to pull viciously at her shadowed prison, panicking at the onslaught coming her way. Just as the Albert reached her, Mai stood defiantly. If she were to be slaughtered by this man, she would have no fear. Her heart pumped wildly as her body numbed from the inevitable....

Something happened. A flash of azure sparkled Mai's visions as suddenly what appeared to be a baker flew in front of her. she felt a ripple through the air as some being landed behind her. Mai suddenly let out her breath, gasping as she felt the person behind her close around her. At first she resisted, but heard the familiar voice as wings encased her.

"Just hold on a second there, girlie," Nothus hissed into her ear gently, causing her to relax and take deeper breaths. She absorbed her released power as suddenly she felt her limbs become freed from the dark grips. As his wings departed from her body, she sighed as she relaxed her muscles. "Thank you..." she mumbled before he flew up into the air. She watched silently but interested as Masquerade held down the king and Nothus finishes him off, accompanied with a green aura suddenly encasing Mai and healing her body. She picked up her sword gently, sighing with relief. It was over.....

She suddenly looked over at the girls who had been thrown, the girl whose bones had been cracked in midair with a sickening crunch and her sister who had successfully aided herself and her fallen comrades from injury. She first approached Alexandra, Loresai, and the healing girl. She looked intensely at Alexandra specifically, worried that she might be traumatized by the events unfolded. "Are you all alright?" She said to the group, mostly to Alexandra.

  15. As Alexandra crashed into the table, her mind jolted and she was instantly awake and aware, though she didn't fully understand all that was going on. The healing assassin had saved her and Loresai with a spell...for she had felt no pain from crashing into the table, though the table looked in horrible condition as did much of the audience chamber. That was the least of her worries at the moment. It seemed as though Masquerade and Nothus had made an appearance, fighting against her uncle and incapacitating him for the time being, though it was obvious that he was very much alive. She didn't know whether to be relieved at that fact...or afraid. He had chopped her down without so much as a second thought. She remembered the intense pain...the feeling of no hesitation as his blades cut through her body. It came to her attention that she had gone through quite a severe healing, first from the assassin girl, and then Nothus's magic only served to bring her more alleviation from her pain.

She looked at Mai who had approached her and Loresai, along with the young assassin that had healing abilities. It seemed like just a few seconds prior, this woman was mere seconds away from demise, yet she seemed so calm. Alexandra was glad that Mai was all right; Masquerade had perfect timing. The noble rose from her haphazard pose amidst the food and wrecked table. "H-have no worries; I am unharmed. Is everyone else okay?" She looked around at the others. They seemed to be doing fairly decent in appearance, their wounds recovered from their own spells along with Nothus's attack.

  16. The scene unfolded itself in a spectacular reversal before the eyes of the recovering vampire. As Loresai was being healed by the girl who came in to do their job that would only happen under the worst circumstances, the once good king arose from his crumpled position as if completely renewed. He had just as quickly thrown Nerra, Alexandra, and herself across the floor. However, a green light came into Loresai's vision, and the crash hurt nowhere near as bad as it should.

Then, Albert trapped the Dragon Apprentice in a shadowy hold, and charged for Mai. As he began running, however, a marvelous blue light shone from around the Chaos Knight, with the Baker and his helper revealing themselves. They pulled Albert's own trick back upon him. As Nothus freed Mai, the girl came over to where Nerra, Alexandra, and Loresai herself had crashed.

The Dragon Apprentice then asked if the Noble was hurt. Upon her answer that she was okay, Alexandra asked then if everyone else was okay.

Loresai looked at the noble, unsure if this was a time to be brutally honest or flat-out lie. This thought was to the fate of the king, the uncle of Alexandra, and a good man until recent times. Loresai, though she knew Alexandra would no doubt grieve to hear Loresai's real opinion, decided that now was the best time for brutal honesty in spite of relations. "A vampire is a hard to kill with conventional means, m'lady" Loresai began, stifling a chuckle. "However, the crimes of that man outweigh those of even the most hardened criminals in Dalmaschior. He does not even deserve the punishment of death. No, he is far past that."

This statement sounded strange even to Loresai. If she had been asked to comment on Albert even just a few years before, she would not even begin to think about bringing death to the man. Indeed, only those who were great sinners would receive the Grim Fate of Meeting that Loresai would give, and now this man deserved it, and farther yet if it were only possible to bring that forward.

However, Loresai knew that Albert was being controlled. No man like him would turn to this brutality. However, Loresai knew not what the driving force could be...

  17. Helena was helpless to do anything but watch as the King rose from the dead, and brutalized one of the two assassins, before attempting to do the same to the other, along with Loresai and Alexandra. It was indeed lucky that nobody aside from the first assassin had been hurt too badly, and luckier still that Masquerade and Nothus had appeared when they did. The gilded banquet hall was now painted with an ominous mood, as everyone tried to recover from the shock of the attack itself… before Masquerade spoke.

I have to say, as assistant bakers, you guys are not very good,

Helena could do nothing more than avert her eyes. Though they had succeeded in bringing down the King, they had not accounted for him returning from the dead to unleash a further tirade of horrors on them. Though they had succeeded, what cost did it come with? What penalties might further come of this struggle…?

Taking this moment to walk over to converse with Bin, Masquerade, and Nothus, Helena began to speak, “I feel that Bin is right. The King clearly was not in his right mind, and it seemed that he was struggling within himself to have control of his actions,” she paused, recalling the tears that he had shed, and shuddered. “No… there is something greater at work than a man’s sudden bout of power-hungry insanity. We need to find out just what made him turn to such… machinations.” She shut her eyes, not wanting to see the mangled bodies of both the King and the assassin out of the corners of her eyes.

  18. Hikari was panting--she had little to no time to recover from the battle with the crazed man once known to be a good King, Albert Valentine. The White Knight took a step back as the King brutally attacked the White Mage who apparently aided the Assassin. She was about to rapidly cast her most basic of healing spells--a Res technique--anything in fact that would help her and the rest to cure their battle wounds and prepare for an immediate second round, one they would probably not win... When, shrouded in azure light, Masquerade the Baker and Nothus materialized on the room, protecting a weakened Mai from suffering the same fate as the Assassin did.

Not wasting this opportunity, she directed regenerative Mana through the bodies of her allies, the Assassin and the White Mage once each, watching as the King became imprisoned in a state of complete motionlessness, albeit being standing in place. It was over. Hopefully. The White Knight let out a sigh as she heard Helena speak, in a rather grim tone, and simply nodded. Her last chain of actions had used a lot of her body Mana...

  19. Alexandra shook her head at Loresai. "By this point, I couldn't care less what punishment fell upon him, even though I still love him," she said solemnly, refusing to look at the slumbering monster into which her once beloved uncle had transmogrified.

The real baker in the vicinity took a few steps towards the group, pointing at Helena. "This one here's got the right idea," Masquerade confirmed with a weary grin. "Where's the hope you had for him, milady?" he asked, addressing Alexandra. "It is very unfitting of one that holds your position to lose hope in front of the people." He turned when he heard a grunt. Albert looked like he was having a nightmare and was struggling against his restraints. Masquerade whistled. In a flurry of feathers, Nothus rushed off to pick up the assassin and rushed her over to her sister, standing her up.

"Th-thanks," she said to the reptile looking to the side, her eyes reflecting a bit of anger and embarassment. It was mere seconds before she felt her sister embrace her. Something wet stained her shoulders--it was her sister's tears. "Knock it off, Nerra. I'm...I'm okay. And you're okay," she said, trying to comfort the young girl, patting her back.

"So, he couldn't hold off on the assassination for just a few days?" Masquerade asked, addressing the young assassin girl in the black bondage who was still desperately trying to calm her sister down.

"After you left last night, he said you could go fuck yourself," the girl replied, shaking her head and trying to refrain from smiling.

"My word, remind me never to ask him for any more favors. We'll have to have a word with him later." Masquerade looked back to check on Albert. The maddened king was struggling even more against his bindings in his slumber. He was bound to wake up at any moment. The baker looked up through the broken window, and then to the main entrance to the audience chamber. Where were all the knights at? Masquerade pointed to the staircase leading up to the balcony. "Guys, you're going to have to go with the assassins," he directed, addressing the party. "The one in black is Nara, and her twin in white and pink is Nerra. They'll lead you to their hideout. I don't know where the knights are, but we'll count ourselves lucky that they're not swarming the place. I'm staying here with Nothus to hold down Albert until you guys escape. We'll meet up a bit later on, okay? So don't worry about me."

"Yeah, yeah, big shot. I'm tempted to leave you here by yourself but, you know. You're the one that makes out the checks at the end of the week," Nothus hissed nonchalantly, gripping his lance and tensing his muscles as if Albert were to spring out of his restraints in a few seconds from now. "Get going." As they rushed by, Nothus grabbed Helena by the arm and leaned in to her ear. "We have an inkling of what to do to figure out what's got the king like this. We'll inform you and the rest later," he whispered in her ear, smirking at the fact that she'd have to wait in suspense to find out what information he and Masquerade had.

The group ascended the staircase and made their way out of the broken window that Nara and Nerra had used to enter the audience chamber. After carefully scaling the wall downwards, the group dashed along the castle grounds and jumped the stone wall surrounding the massive place. They landed in an alleyway and rushed out to the main street. From there, they could tell that there was a large commotion on the other side of the city. People out in the streets were gazing intently as the vast pillars of smoke that rose into the air and listened to the myriad of shouting and explosions off in the distance. Nara and Nerra led the group in the opposite direction, only stopping when they reached the outskirts of the city, winding up in front of a dilapidated cathedral. Nara produced a key and unlocked the front doors, ushering everyone inside before closing them and locking the thing back. Inside was a sight that was far from holy. The wooden walls were covered in scratch and slash marks with red stains smeared on them here and there. The pews were weak and damp, covered in mold--at the point of breaking. The altar was cut in half with the top piece lying at the bottom of the small set of carpeted stairs leading up to it. A few wooden chairs in a condition as horrible as the pews rested behind the podium. Most of the stained glass windows were broken and covered with pieces of wood. It was a rather sad sight.

Nara took a moment to catch her breath, expecting that everyone else would probably need to do the same. "Well, at least his distraction...went off without...a hitch," Nara panted, taking a deep breath and releasing it to try and stabilize it.

  20. Mai caught a friendly tone between this Nara and the baker, which set her mind buzzing. How did Masquerade know them? More importantly, if he knew them so well, had he planned Nara and Nerra as possible backups for the king's assassination? Who was this "he" they spoke of? Had Masquerade planned a previous assassination?...

Mai shook her head as she watched the group dash off. They were escaping. Mai quickly took off after the group, easily catching up before reaching the window. Mai jumped out the window, catching herself most would consider painfully on the wall. But it was no problem for Mai; the mountains which she had been trained proved to be hundreds of times more challenging than the finely built wall. She hopped off much higher than any sane person would let off, hitting the ground, and rolling tactically as her fall was broken. She awaited the others apprehensively, keeping her hand on the hilt of her sword to defend her descending comrades.

She dashed with her new friends across the castle grounds to another stone obstacle, where Mai quickly launched herself up the side and to the top with ease. She lowered her hand to the others, helping them over when they made it up to her. Soon after she followed the black-clothed assassin down an alleyway, keeping pace as they crossed through several streets, steadily getting out of the denser-populated portions of the city.

The group made it to a very broken-down abandoned cathedral, something Mai in a way huffed about. Catholicism. Mai panted with the rest of the group as they attempted to regain breath from the quick dash, though her pants weren't quite as hard. Mai felt her strong mountain-hardened lungs easily soak in oxygen, and soon enough she was perfectly calm as they entered the broken down place of worship. Mai scowled at the sheer ugliness of the place. This obviously couldn't possibly be a place to worship a higher being anymore; the very altar wasn't even existent, slashed in half in what Mai could only assume was used for training. She followed the two sister assassins inside, but decided it best that she probably shouldn't sit down, worried for her personal garments.

She fixed her platinum white hair, flowing it around in a loose swirled bun and clamping it with her personalized hair sticks. She threw the rest of her hair behind her back, letting it flow behind her as she walked around nonchalantly, observing the broken-down cathedral before Nara spoke out jokingly. She only nodded in agreement before her body completely relaxed and turned to the others. It seemed it might not be the best time, since everyone was still trying to recover from the run, but the words came out anyway.

"Well, it seems Masquerade had a plan kept with you two... she started, her attention on Nara and Nerra, "So, what do we do now?"
