Tales of Alidaire: The Struggle

Discussion in 'Statistical Roleplays' started by Masquerade, Jul 19, 2011.

  1. Midas took the man's hand firmly in his own and shook it before releasing it. He seemed like an innocent young man. "Nice to meet you, too, fella," he said and laughed a bit. "Unfortunately, the last spot in the High Order Knights was taken recently by this one's fiance, the lucky bastard," he explained and stroked Alexandra's hair. "I doubt a talented young man such as yourself would like to be a peon. Besides, I hate my job anyway. It's not one I advise taking up." He turned his attention to the young woman, her last comment making him grin evilly for but just a second...or did he do it at all? "My beautiful Lady Alexandra frequents the castle quite often, and I run into her a lot there seeing as how that's where I work. We talked every time we bumped into each other and became good friends. And nothing more," he teased, grimacing slightly to emphasize the point. "Ah well. I'm just not much of a ladies' man, I suppose." His gaze grew rather serious. "I'd only be afraid of that last comment of yours if it were night...," he said before releasing Alexandra and walking close to Loresai.

"Midas, don't get carried away!" Alexandra protested. She knew how he could be, but wasn't worried for Loresai's safety this time. Midas actually seemed to like the group, and they were friends of hers, so everything would be all right...maybe. She sighed uneasily.

Midas seized one of Loresai's hands. "You see, I have a rather unique ability. Just look," he said and gazed down at Loresai's fingernails which had turned to solid gold. "Just by touching you, your entire body could be just like your nails right now; you would be a golden statue. Or, say you attacked me before I had a chance. If you had to physically touch me, I could still spread the plague through your weapon until it reached you, and this takes but mere fractions of seconds." He released her hand, her fingernails having returned to normal, and laughed into the air as he drew back leisurely towards Alexandra. "I can reverse the effect, and if you use magic, I've trained this ability to be so precise that I can spread the golden curse through the residue trail of mana you left behind. Buuuut, it only works during the day. At night, I am helpless, save a few spells I taught myself to protect myself."

And now it was to the archer that his attention turned. "I could very well arrest if I so deigned to do so, but I'm feeling a bit lazy, not to mention that you saved this one's life," he explained. "Let us just say you're lucky it was I and not one of the other High Order Knights that came strolling along today."

  2. "A pleasure to meet you, Midas." Hikari almost bowed, letting a small sigh of relief as she sheathed her dagger.

It was all a crazy sequence of events that had lead her, a White Knight, almost confront a detective and his two Paladins. She refrained from shaking Midas' hand due to his display with gold he had performed on Loresai, so she just stood there, arms crossed. Hikari nearly had to bite her tongue to stop herself from spitting at Helena, who had spoken rather harshly in mistrust for the man who hadn't arrested the group, despite being completely capable to.

    She said nothing else.

  3. said nothing to the detective or the paladins as they left, absorbing all of her hidden power back into her body. As Midas appeared, she simply nodded, but did show surprise at Midas's rich power. Her mind drifted to the possibilities of turning anything into gold...

Mai stopped herself. Something about this journey was taking away her self-control and self-discipline. She had to keep herself in the complete physical and mental control the way she'd been taught. Mai decided to simply sharpen the old sword she carried as the group began to socialize.

  4. Bin uncomfortably rubbed his arm. To think that he might have been turned into gold had Midas been a little clumsy with his power didn't sit well with him at all. Nevertheless, he was still determined to be a good person, so he attempted to make conversation with the man. So were you born with this power? Or did you get it from something?" He inquired in his usually childish voice. He thought to himself for a moment, thinking about this power, and decided to ask to his question, unconsciously in a more serious tone "Do things you turn into gold stay gold at night?"

  5. As her long, talon-like fingernails returned to normal, Loresai snapped her hand back, giving Midas a harsh look. In an instant, however, the look turned into one of entertainment, her face showing a wide smile. As the spellcaster named Bin asked asked some questions about the official's powers, Loresai decided to listen closely, just in case anything were to happen.

If anything were to happen, then this man would easily die if Loresai and the group she got into knew this man's weakness. She knew that the man would not reveal a deathly weakness easily, but something like this could indeed turn into something deathly

  6. Midas's attention was drawn to the young man before him, for he was the only one who really spoke, trying to engage him. The knight wasn't used to being probed with questions. Oh wait, of course I am, he thought and sighed wearily, shaking his head slightly before gazing at the one who sought answers from him. "I was indeed born with this power. They discovered it early and kept me away from...things...that shouldn't be turned to gold. It was a miserable childhood, but eh. We learn to get used to it. Fortunately for me, things that I curse during the day do in fact remain gold throughout the night, for there would be many enemies after me should the curse wear off in any other way than my reversing it. But so far, there appears to be no other way." He paused and looked down the street before mumbling something inaudible to himself, starting to walk away.

Alexandra reached out for him, but didn't touch him. "I-is everything all right, Midas?" she asked in concern. Things grew terribly quiet. A few people were walking down the street, scoping out certain businesses and such to make transactions or whatever it was they were tasked to do. She didn't figure they were the object of her friend's attention.

"I have to be going," he stopped, still gazing in that one direction down the street. "You should get back to the castle, love. You've got to get ready for the reception. I'm sure William would like to see you as well." He didn't turn back to look at the group. "I assume you'll be inviting your saviors to the party? I look forward to seeing you all again." With that, he walked away without waiting for a response.

A frown set itself upon Alexandra's face. She was definitely worried, but Midas was an odd fellow. There was no telling what was going on through that mind of his. Shaking her head, she turned and faced her friends. "I probably should get to the castle...," she said and turned her back on them, but quickly turned around again, smacking her palm to her forehead. "I almost forgot--" she tried to say, but was cut off.

"I think I've got it from here. You go on and get ready," a rather cheerful Masquerade spoke out. He was standing in the doorway of the bakery, holding the door open from the inside as if he had been in there the whole time...when the group knew that this was not true. He casually strolled out and into the midst of the group. Save for Bin, it would've looked like they were his harem or something. Or maybe even including Bin. Who knows. "I'll let you in on what's going down today besides the you-know-what," he said to them in a low voice, waving goodbye as Alexandra scurried off. "You guys are going to be my assistants for the day, not like you'll have any work. Already made the cake; just gotta carry it into the castle. Fact is, you're with me. With all this confusion going on with the magistrate and what happened last night, Alexandra can't get you in on her word alone. So not a word about who you guys are. You're just a lowly baker's assistants, capiche?"

  7. Bin looked puzzlingly at Masq. "Do you have costumes or something?" He asked in an almost accusing tone "Because I'm dressed in a broken down artifact of superpower, Hikari is wearing armor and Loresai is... a vampire..." He gestured at the himself and then the team "I'm not positive Bakers look quite like we do... In fact sir, I can't really bring to mind any functional group that does. He pondered the irony of him being the one to point this out, what with the invisible hat he donned for little reason other than for a slight boost in mana and the ability to freak some people out. Nevertheless, issues like this had to be brought up, but then again, maybe armored vampire bakers are normal...

    Bin doesn't get out much.

  8. “I could very well arrest if I so deigned to do so, but I'm feeling a bit lazy, not to mention that you saved this one's life. Let us just say you're lucky it was I and not one of the other High Order Knights that came strolling along today.”

Helena, having her curiousity satisfied by the strange, overbearing Midas, turned away upon hearing his answer. She gave a curt nod to show that she had heard him, but no other sign was given. In truth, she was thankful for Midas chasing away the detective and his cronies, but after the morning she was having, she was overtly annoyed with how their luck seemed to go, and she feared for her freedom... despite having done nothing more than rid the streets of some useless scum. She turned to her companions once more, and saw Hikari glowering in her direction. Helena merely shrugged, as if to say I have done nothing out of question.

As Midas took his leave, his tone seemed to change to a more sober, almost sad voice. Helena was now confused; the confident man had simply walled his mind and emotions, displaying almost nothing to the group assembled before him. Puzzling over this briefly, the Rookie Bowman noticed that Masquerade had returned, and Alexandra too was on her way out. The baker explained to the group the cover story, to which Bin responded with a valid question; none of them looked at all like assistants to a baker.

“Bin raises a valid point. None of us really fit the bill of a baker’s assistant, so would it not be rather suspicious if we walked around a high-profile celebration in our present attire? Especially if we were to walk right into the grounds of the very people who just tried to arrest us… it just seems a bit touchy.”

  9. Masquerade twirled about and walked forward a bit so he wasn't in the middle of the group anymore and his back was facing them. A slight flash of a grin set upon his face and vanished. "See, I was very aware of this situation and set about to find a way to remedy it...," he said craftily and pointed to the inside of the bakery whose door was still wide open. "Inside, I do believe you'll find everything you need to 'fit the bill' as you say. Besides, you look like...eh. Just bleh. Go wash yourselves up and get changed. We're going to the castle~!" he exclaimed, his figure bursting into a jet of azure flames. As they dissipated, the baker was nowhere to be found.

Inside, resting neatly on the counter, was a row of baker's uniforms, just like Masquerade's. The puffy clothes, white aprons, and fancy hats made them all look like professionals upon donning them. Now the group was sure to have no problems getting into the castle now. With no set task assigned by Masquerade, the group of assistant bakers moved through the streets of the capitol in order to reach the castle. Upon telling the security their purpose, they were let through and directed to the kitchens. They were informed by the castle's head chef that they were to report to the audience chambers and service the people and watching over the food--making sure nothing happened to it.

They made their way slowly through the elegant halls, red carpet covering the middle section of the marbled floor, gold in hue in order to match the golden walls. It was all rather gaudy, but what one would come to expect of such a residence. The large oaken doors to the audience chamber were wide open, and a rather large amount of people were gathered inside, all obviously nobility, for their garments were unbelievably fanciful--perfect for the occasion. They made their way to the food tables to perform their duties. The decor was the same as the hall, but with large stone columns elegantly carved and placed in a proper order about the room, most likely necessary for structural purposes. They aided in the support of the balconies where scholars were performing magic to make an endless rain of confetti that would drift listlessly to the ground and disappear as to not make a mess. In the far corner, a small band was playing a lively tune, the trumpets making things more festive with their tones. The children of the nobles ran around the periphery of the room chasing balloons placed in the chamber for the party.

It was there. Sitting upon the throne was the Chaos Knight, King Albert Valentine. He was chatting lively with two noblemen. His dark skin was unblemished, and his gray eyes would have been vacant had he not been so involved in what must have been a pleasant conversation. His white hair was so long and very beautiful. It seemed to contradict his entire, rather dark, appearance.

"Aha! So you guys made it in all right, after all," a familiar voice called out to them as an elegantly dressed Alexandra approached them. She nodded her head to them, a large smile on her face. "Sorry you guys got stuck with this meaningless work, but it was the easiest and probably the only real way to get you in." She frowned a bit nervously. "So what do you think of everything?" she asked, stretching out her arms to gesture to the chamber and most likely the castle itself.

  10. "I must admit this castle is indeed quite beautiful, m'lady, astounding by any measure," Loresai replied to Alexandra, glancing around at the gaudily decorated audience chamber, "but as beautiful as it is, I must say that I rather hate it. It is almost monotonously gaudy, and its beauty lies only in its proof of wealth." Not caring if anyone had heard her tiny tirade, Loresai gave a small chuckle, as if she had rather wanted some others to hear it.

As she returned to the reserved state one would expect a server to hold, Loresai looked around the chamber at the nobility gathered there. The confetti pouring down made it somewhat hard to focus, but she had to be careful. It was always places like this in which death would rear its face that most would describe as ugly, but to Loresai was as beautiful as any of these nobles...

  11. Mai scoffed, wiping a little bit of cake batter that was to help her uniform seem more believable. "I detest fancy gatherings and I don't enjoy any other clothing than of my own taste. You can say I'm not very happy right now." Mai looked around at all these people, dressed in extravagant clothing and billowing dresses and well sewn suits. They all seemed happy up in their high power.

But Mai was sickened. They were all simply greedy, no matter how jolly or caring they looked. Mai had no doubt that these "friends" would sell each other for gold for the sake of a carriage to ride past broken down houses and businesses where people fought for a copper piece so they could feed their children. No doubt more than half of these people didn't even have families. It was all to themselves, no sharing with anyone. Her obvious negative opinion of this ball only increased ever so slightly as she looked around at the fancy decorations and designs and awaited orders.

  12. "Sadly I have to agree with those two" Bin said in a voice that sounded almost disappointed, disappointed that it couldn't be cheery like normal. "I kind of grew up in a basement library, so all this fancy decor sort of just feels insulting." Bin attempted to put on a smile, though it was noticeably forced. "I like the baker outfit though. Maybe I should volunteer with Masq when I get the free time hm?" Bin thought to himself, Maybe I was too rude... Then again I only said what everyone else said. And Alexandra probably wouldn't mind if a single magic abusing peasant dislikes the horrendous misuse of gold here. Bins thoughts trailed off and he started to ignore the extravagant furnishings that surrounded them.

  13. Alexandra frowned and turned away from them, her arms crossed. "Uncle loves the color of gold, not because he's greedy. He just loves it. Like a normal person would have a favorite color," she explained. "He never cared for money. Even now in his demented state, it's of the least importance. He just likes things to look nice. Just a human trait," her voice trailed off sadly as she spared a glance over at the smiling man on the throne, his eyes full of vitality as he joked and chatted with his friends. She sighed and turned to face them, a slight smirk on her face. "Now you know why he took such a liking to Midas," she added and laughed. There was no point in being sad at her own wedding reception.

    The confetti stopped falling.

Everywhere, the nobles carried on as usual, but Alexandra looked up towards the balconies. One by one, the mages casting the confetti spell were dropping like flies. "Did they become exhausted or...," she muttered to herself. That's when she noticed that the large circular window that was level with the balcony was broken and she screamed. Several small orbs descended from the balcony and exploded into a smokescreen upon hitting the floor causing the other nobles to scream in fright and rush out of the door and into the halls. As the smoke cleared, two figures were revealed, both female. One was standing in a battle stance, dressed in tight leather gear and holding two daggers, one with a sleek blade and the other with a jagged one. Her violet eyes were heartless, devoid of emotion. Her hair was extremely black and was cut short so it only went down to her shoulders. Behind her was another girl of the same age who looked very similar to the other girl--their facial structures and body scheme practically the same. However, her eyes were filled with kindness, and they were a dazzling blue unlike the violet eyes of the other. Her hair was also much longer than the first girl's, and a white-blonde in color. Her attire was more or less the same as the first girl's, save hers was pink and white in color scheme and had features such as flared sleeves and a waist cloth that went down to the backs of her knees behind her. Though her eyes were kind, she held her staff with brutal intent, standing at the ready for only the gods knew what.

King Albert was on his feet, and two gentlemen in long robes with funny hats were standing beside him. They looked exactly alike save the colors: one was dressed in blue, and the other dressed in red. In the king's hands were two large broadswords which his muscled arms carried with ease.

"Your reign is over," the girl with the violet eyes said sharply, her tone deadly. She disappeared causing the king to look around frantically, but noticed something descending upon him. The girl swung down hard with her daggers, but was easily blocked by one of the king's large blades. Once blocked, he swung the blade outwards causing the young girl to fly across the room and slam into the wall.

"You should be more wise than to make false claims, my dear," he bellowed and laughed evilly. He watched as the girl in pink and white made her way to aid the other girl, but he rushed off to intercept her.

"Uncle, please!" Alexandra shouted, but it was too late. She turned away as Albert thrust his blade out causing the girl to run right into the flat of it, and he swung the blade outwards as he did before sending her flying. He turned quickly to see that the other girl had vanished. She reappeared in the air, catching the girl in pink and white and holding onto her as they soared through the air and crashed into the wall that the food table was aligned against. By the looks of it, the girl in black was unconscious, but the other girl closed her eyes and white mana began to glow around her. The light surged into the girl in black and she awoke, standing and walking forward.

"Bystanders...get the hell out of here," she said to the group of which she thought were mere bakers. "Why didn't you run like the rest...?" she asked wearily but didn't wait for a response. She went tot he middle of the room with the other girl in two. Albert was back by the throne with his cronies. "No mercy."

  14. (Bin starts at cell J6)

Bin blinked rapidly as the events unfolded before his eyes. "Well that happened." He muttered to himself, trying to make any sense of the situation. From what he could see immediately it appeared an assassination attempt was taking place. Worst wedding reception ever Bin thought, probably not taking the situation as seriously as he should.
He realized then and there that he had no idea what to do, on one hand, the entire goal of this mission was to get the kingdom out of Albert's hands, but then, an assassination? Was that not what everyone agreed would be saved as a last resort? Bin thought, the best of both worlds would be to aid the king, and attempt to get closer to him, in a sort of double agent style. "Alright everyone!" Bin spoke in a voice only load enough to be audible to his teammates "We are going to have to help the king shoo out the assassins. So that we can play double agent with the king. I know it seems kind of backwards but trust me on this, if we aid the assassins and fail we could ruin any chance we have at this." Bin pulled out his stick and looked around at his allies. "Are you with me?"

  15. {Helena starts at J7!}

She had been standing impassively as the merriment had unfolded about them. How can such festivities unfold while the rest of this bloody country is in so much discord! Helena thought to herself, but said nothing for fear of being discovered. Alexandra apologized for the task they had been forced into, to which Helena mustered a polite smile; the girl was more than kind to them, which was more than could be said of any of the other nobles at this party…

She cast her gaze upon the throne; the icon of the oppression of the people, King Albert, sat laughing with his fellow noblemen, the confetti drifting listlessly through the air. It was nearly enough to make Helena sick… She did her very best to keep from drawing her concealed bow and assassinating the man all on her own, though Masquerade had told them to leave any sort of violence - assassination obviously included - as a last resort. Instead, she simply clenched her fists tightly, giving away as little emotion as possible.

As her malevolent thoughts were getting the better of her, she noticed that the regal confetti had stopped falling throughout the impossibly golden hallways. Confused, she (along with practically everyone else in the royal chamber) began to look for the cause of the interruption. The afternoon sun pierced the windows as they were shattered; leaving two girls in their place, seemingly ready to bring about the downfall of the king that had been driven to such madness…

She grimaced. Masquerade had explicitly told them not to cause violence unless absolutely necessary, but Helena absolutely refused to aid the king, especially if the madness was completely incurable… Bin seemed to think that aiding the royal was the most absolute thing in the world, which Helena simply could not bring herself to do. She shot back in the same hushed tone he had used, “Bin, we cannot help a madman in what could possibly be the one chance we have at restoring order to Dalmaschior! Or at least freedom from oppression…” thoughtfully, she added, “These two girls could very well unveil Albert’s plans for us! Who says we even need to do anything!”

  16. Loresai looked upon the newcoming assassins with a strange mix of contempt, disappointment, and happiness. Knowing that perhaps she would be able to kill something now was what brought her the happiness. However, Loresai was rather disappointed by their grand entrance. A true assassin would have never revealed him or herself so quickly, especially when their target was such an important man as the king. It troubled Loresai slightly, but no more than that. It also troubled her with the seeming irony of the situation -- Masquerade had tasked them with assassination, but only as a last resort. Now, however, an assassination was in the midst of the party.

"Alexandra, darling," the vampire said in a nearly seductive manner, "It seems that there is a disagreement. What would you have us do, m'lady?" Having qualms against both sides, Loresai did not care who the group chose to fight against, as long as she would get to kill someone.

    [Loresai starts at cell I8]

  17. Hikari starts at I4.

"Why did it have to happen at a time a like this?" Hikari muttered to herself, groaning in disgust. She immediately ripped her baker's outfit swiftly, the white shredded pieces of clothing falling to the ground as it revealed the White Knight's armor, and the piece of rusted metal that could barely be called a dagger.

She looked at both sides in a quick, analyzing glance, and finally turned to her supposed allies, overhearing their hushed conversation. "Helena, Loresai." she almost sternly, "Bin is right. We can't simply just jump into action and attempt to assassinate him. Remember what Masquerade told us? It should be the last resort."

  18. [Mai starts at J4]
[Mai's Dragon Rush activates! Bestows Haste on Mai!]

Mai nodded to Alexandra's point. Her own clothing had gold laces sown into the design. But this was an honorable outfit, to show the pride and honor of the dragon. These people wore it out of vanity.

Suddenly smoke filled Mai's vision. She prodded her eyes open as soon as the smoke began to clear, hearing and seeing two women begin to charge Alexandra's uncle. Despite the confusion, Mai happily ripped the baker's clothing from her, revealing her gold-and-blue styled dragon apprentice outfit. Mai unsheathed her sword, her body heating up as battle entered her mind.

This was much better than serving cake.

"The decision is made then," she said as she heard the collected group's whisperings, swivelling toward the two assassins offensively. "I say the same. Death was made the very last option, and these assassins want it first. They are the new enemy now."

    Player Phase 1!

    Alexandra waits.

"I know you want to help my uncle...I don't want to see him come to harm, but those girls are so young," she said, glancing over at them only to see that one had disappeared. The girl left behind, the one in the white and pink, was still standing there, tightly gripping her weapon, staring right into the mocking eyes of the king. Even beneath his oppressive gaze, she did not waver. Standing seemingly alone against him, her resolve would not falter. Her own gaze was just as determined. So young...why did they have to be so young? Alexandra couldn't find it in her heart to hurt them, though she didn't want her uncle to come to any harm as well. "Don't hurt them too badly?" she stated aloud, in the form of a question, not sure of it herself. "Even that sounds horrible to say....," she muttered to herself.

  20. "Alexandra, dear, that's no fun," Loresai said in a rather amused tone, her frowning face contradicting the playfulness. Then, she gave a small smile, and moved towards the young noble, going around the serving table where she had been feigning innocence. "However, I will do as you wish, m'lady."

Loresai then finally removed the baker's garment she had been wearing, a long kimono that was underneath flowing down to the ground like some fine wine. Then, she twisted the handle of her parasol, removing it from the rest of the umbrella and revealing a sharp katana that skirted out of its hilt with a sharp metallic ring.

"I guess it's time to play then," Loresai said with an expectant ring in her voice.
