  1. The Year is 2018.

    After failing to leave the economic "Recession" of the decade prior the US Government found itself at the point of collapse: 2 failed wars and a number of military interventions has left the once great nation over-extended and primed for failure on an epic scale...

    On October 21st the proverbial Straw broke the Camel's back; The Dow dropped to levels only seen in the Great Depression of the 1930's while a group of Anarchist radicals detonated Dirty Bombs in 5 American Cities...

    It is now December 1st, as the Majority of the US has now fallen into Chaos and/or Martial Law you find yourselves struggling to survive in (Insert agreed city here). You may be a War Vet just trying to survive, a gangbanger trying to make it big or a single mom trying to find her kids (Within reason ANY Archetype is OK)

  3. Awesome! Any plot points in particular you'd like to explore? My thoughts:

    UN intervention (as they attempt to crush any resistance to THEIR new government)

    "Freedom Fighters" challenging the UN but also using methods like child soldiers and food/medical only for fighters and/or supporters (no support for elderly or invalids)

    Stereotypical cannibals and looting gangs

    Religious group rises to power in general area (maybe radical LDS offshoot)

    Etc.

  4. Cannibals and looters are good to have and the U.S. trying to regain control of the country with UN support. Probably having to fight gangs that have come to power in certain regions with smaller groups trying to survive outside of government control and gang control. Freedom fighters fighting for a new nation by claiming that if the country failed once it will fail again. Or something like that.
