Survival 101 (An Apocalypse Story)

I'm back in the writing business and to start off my return, I am going to work on an Apocalypse-type story about a group of High School Kids, who just want to reunite with each other, called "Survival 101". Not my usual story I write, but wish me luck with this.

Now here is, Survival 101!

Chapter 1 - The End

Ever since man had first appeared on this planet known as Earth, they have been predicting to when their peaceful life shall end. Even now, in the year 2023, scientists are using our current technology to find out when an apocalypse will occur. An apocalypse is the destruction of mankind, but more specifically the world. Many people do not believe that the world will end one day, but others believe this and are preparing for the worst. Despite the theories of the apocalypse, humans and other creatures are living their lives peacefully without any thought of their destruction. If the end of the world does occur, how will all of mankind react?

“And that was Jay Morris with sports.” A bald-headed, who sat behind a desk, stated as he looked to his left to see another man. “Now here with me today is Dr. Henry Ragon, a scientist part of the NAXA program, who is currently studying the movement of the planets as they begin to form a straight line.’”

The man had long brown hair that extended to the top of his shoulder. He was currently called Henry wearing a white overcoat and black shades to cover his sapphire eyes. He let out a small grin before facing the newsman to speak. “Thank you Jo-“

The image of the two men vanished in a blink of an eye, shifting into a black screen full of nothing. In front of the television, mentioned before, was a black-haired teenage boy sitting on a brown couch. The boy also had black eyes, and was at an average height for teenagers his age. He looked like your average teenage and seemed like he would fit in with the crowd. After placing the T.V. remote of the table, he calmly walked down the hall and stopped in front of a dusty-brown colored door. He knocked a couple times before he started to tap his foot in a certain beat.

“Come on Tina!” The boy shouted with an impatient voice. He began to knock on the door again to get the person known as Tina to wake up. “Get up already or we might be late for school!”

Soon the door opened, revealing a teenage girl, a few inches shorter than the boy, wearing a black skirt and white shirt, standing in front of him. “Geesh Hazel,” Tina complained to her older brother as he took a step back from her. “Can’t a girl get ready in peace?” She walked past her older brother and walked toward the front door, with white backpack. “Well are you coming!?”

“I have a feeling today is going to be a lovely day.” Hazel answered sarcastically as he grabbed his black bag, following his sister as she opened the door. As he took a step out of the door and looked at the sun, he let out a small sigh.

The duo, with Tina in the lead, made their way toward their school, which was about 2 blocks away. The quick journey was very quiet for them because both of them had nothing to talk about since they were both tired. Coming into their view was a large brown building that was called Farnsworth High School. In front of the school were students, ranging from the ages of 13-18. The brother-sister pair walked past the student body, heading toward the main door of the school.

“See you later Hazel.” Tina said to her brother, as she walked the opposite way of the door. “I’m going to hang out with my friends until school starts.” With that farewell, she left her brother to walk around with a group of girls.

Hazel let out a small sigh as he opened the front door, walking into the main hallway of Farnsworth High. “Two more weeks of this until summer arrives.” He sighed as he walked up a nearby stairs to go on the second floor. His class was on the second floor because he was in his sophomore year. As we made his way through the hallway, he stopped in front of a door that had the words, “2-3” etched on a sign. “Hopefully, I can get through this day without any problems.” He told himself with a nod.

Hazel opened the sliding door, revealing a normal-sized classroom with around 25 chairs placed in the back portion of the room. Some students took less than half of the seats, while other students stood up. Hazel walked pass the first row of seats to stand next to a small group of teenagers crowding around one desk. The group, except Hazel, consisted of two boys and one girl. The boy that was sitting on the desk had spiked-up brown hair with green eyes. Around his neck was a small chain with a cross hanging down, touching his chest. The other boy had semi-long black hair that extended down to the top of his shoulders. He wore a black bandanna around his forehead, which had a skull imprinted on it. The only girl of the group sat on a desk in front of the brown haired boy. She had long dark blue hair that fell down to her elbows, when they are fully extended downwards.

“Top of the morning to ya, Hazel.” The brown haired boy greeted Hazel in a weird accent. The greeting awarded him with a flick to the head by Hazel. The flick made him fall back in his seat as he rubbed his forehead. “Kairi, Hazel is bullying me!”

Hazel sighed as he took a seat near the girl known as Kairi. “Kairi don’t listen to Antom, he’s just being stupid.” He informed the others as he looked at the last unnamed member of the group, as he smiled at Hazel. “You seem oddly happy today, Brian.”

“Well I heard some good news from my fath-“ Brian told the others, but was interrupted when the teacher walked through the door. “I’ll tell you guys after class is over.” He retreated from the group and went to sit down on a desk on the opposite side of the room.

The remaining three were already in their seats and waited for class to begin. Their teacher began class like he always had. Beginning the class with attendance, then talking about current events happening in the world. Hazel showed no interest in the current topic, so he began to look around the class. Antom had fallen asleep since he wasn’t interested as well, while Brian was paying close attention to the teacher’s explanation. Hazel turned his attention to Kairi, who looked back at him and smiled. He smiled back at her, before looking out the window to pass the time. Several minutes have gone by since the lecture had started, but it still hadn’t ended. As Hazel stared out the window, he began to see a small tiny speck in the sky. At first he didn’t mind it, but when he looked back at the speck, it had grown a lot larger. He examined it as it got bigger and soon realized what the falling object was. A meteorite.

With the new knowledge, Hazel stood up from his seat and slammed his hands on the desk. “We have to get out of here now!” He screamed at the class, getting a weird look from his classmates in return. “There is a meteorite coming right at us!” He turned to look out the window again, but instead he found horror in his heart. The meteorite was very close now and he could see several more specks in the sky. He looked back at his friends, who stood up as well and looked out the window. This might be the end, for all of us… He thought as he stood there as the meteorite hit the school. …No, I will not perish here…
