Super Smash Bros 4

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Wonder Smash, Jun 25, 2012.

  1. Hah! Captain Rainbow Little Mac trophy! That made me happier than it should have.

Today's screenshot features Lumiose City as a stage, where you fight atop the Prism Tower.

  3. As expecting as I was to see something from X/Y to make it in, I wish that perhaps a more known stage was used, perhaps the entrance to the Pokemon League (which has dropoffs iirc). I think that it would make the stage more recognizable than it currently is, but overall it still looks spectacular.

Have to get a Wii U some time before next year.

  4. I honestly don't think anything in Kalos could be more of a recognizable location from Pokemon XY than Lumiose City. It is the largest city in Kalos, and was the first city to be shown for Pokemon XY. By all means, Lumiose is the central city of Kalos. Not to mention that Prism Tower is perhaps the tallest structure in Kalos, and it's in the center of Lumiose City.

  5. I think that it could make for a nice stage; I myself am not fond particularly of the 'travel stages' (i.e. Delfino Plaza, Mute City, Port Town), though it seems like we'll be getting a couple of those in the form of Skyloft/Lumiose.

  6. Yeah, Lumiose City was in a TON of promo pre-release for X/Y and helped hype it up for a bunch of people with the new visual presentation, and I think from that perspective, it is probably the most agreeable place to represent the latest generation. I'm a big fan of Delfino Plaza, so it'll be intriguing to check out these new forms of the traveling stage gimmick first brought-on by F-Zero and all that hoo-ha. I'd assume both it and Skyloft will be significantly less dangerous and significantly more aesthetically pleasing, so woo.

Umm.... Well... Never thought we'd see the day they put Cuccos in a Smash Bros game.

More of the Lumiose City stage shown off.

New assist trophy, I guess.... I'm not entirely sure, but okay...

But more important than that there will a Super Smash Bros Direct on April 8th, which'll be available on the official site. Look forward to new stuff!

  10. Are we looking forward to any more character releases or are they all revealed by now?

  11. Why would this be all of the characters? I mean sure, we have a great roster so far, but right now, we only have 24 characters. If this was it, these games would have less characters than Brawl and Melee. And I don't think there'd be much to talk about in the direct if that was the case.

  12. New influx of fighters! Including a new, but familiar face... and tongue.

That's right, Greninja is a playable character in whole!

On his heels is the veteran, Charizard, this time apparently free of his Pokeball.

    Speaking of dragons...

To my personal delight, though not exactly surprise, the Super Smash classic, Yoshi!

Sheik is also confirmed, looking great in the new graphics.

And, to the inevitable delight of many male fans, Zero Suit Samus is confirmed as a veteran.

This round of updates definitely makes the roster feel more full, and it's very nice to see these veterans make a return. The inclusion of Greninja seems a bit odd, though I'm sure he'll be fun to play. I assume the Pokemon Trainer gimmick is being cut, and it's Charizard's time to shine on his own, though, as there's no news of Squirtle or Ivysaur, and since Nintendo has clearly shown Charizard to have priority what with his two Mega Evolutions (and probably popularity with younger fans who discovered him from X and Y), he would be logical choice of the three to keep.

And to conclude, a video about a Pokemon battle... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xEJBPMcbRkk
    In 'epic' format.

  14. Okay, so going back to the Direct... I'm pretty excited about Greninja. It does raise questions about Mewtwo's status as a veteran, because the playstyles of Greninja, Lucario, and Mewtwo do appear to be at least mildly similar. I also worry that Pokémon is starting to get overrepresented again, since it does have at least the pocket pick of Jigglypuff returning. Don't get me wrong, I am quite thrilled to see my starter in X make an appearance, but it just... doesn't sit right with me that so many Pokémon will be appearing as playable characters. I'd be alright with seeing Squirtle and Ivy get the axe if it means that we will be seeing other franchises get the spotlight placed upon them.

I was hoping to get some Ridley action beyond that tease of a silhouette shadow (which people are claiming was because he isn't complete, hence the choppy animations). Still seems to be up in the air, despite Sakurai showing that clip while discussing boss monsters as stage hazards. Will we see him as playable? Time will tell...

Ice Climbers were indirectly confirmed, since in the "custom movesets" bit, Kirby's Inhale seems to be replaced by the IC's down special move.

Also, as hype as the "For Fun / For Glory" modes are, it just sort leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they couldn't provide a "Stage Hazards On/Off" thing as opposed to giving us oodles of Final Destination clones. Being mildly invested in the 'competitive' side of Smash, I'm happy to see an option where items are forced to off (some items are heaps of fun to play in normals, but a lot of them are stupid and gamebreaking. Golden Hammer? 1/8 chance of my OP Hammer breaking? Smart Bomb that decimates half the stage? No thanks). However, all the same, half the fun of Smash is the different locales in my opinion. The shape of the stages really adds a lot to the game in terms of strategy. So really, it would have been nice to have versions of each stage beyond FD everything. Spear Pillar without Dialga/Palkia/Cresselia's interference would have been fantastic fun.

  15. Actually, Eebit, I think that Kirby ice exhale seems to be a custom move based on his ice copy ability from the games.

  16. Is that how it's going to work? I was under the impression that it was going to be based on a mix-n-match system. I mean, I get that it's conveying that, but I would imagine it would be through utilizing another move. Could be wrong!

  17. Huh, I haven't thought about it like that. Mario's fireballs kind of do act like Fox's blasters at one point in the video.

I wonder if this is their idea of getting rid of clones but still maintaining some of the old clones' properties. I just hope we can make the inevitable Ness fight like Lucas. Maybe even make Lucas a skin like Wireframe Mac...!

  18. On the note of skins, it would appear that a myriad of characters are getting some. After all, we've now seen Wireframe Mac, and the male/female Wii Fit Trainer. Could Doctor Mario resurface as a skin in this iteration?

  19. Oh, I would love that. I also hope that 'Marth' from Fire Emblem Awakening is a skin for Marth. And the Female Villager for the Villager. (Which is totally gonna happen)
