Super Smash Bros 4

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Wonder Smash, Jun 25, 2012.

  1. Honestly, I'm slightly surprised they revealed Marth this early. Like in Melee and Brawl, he was an unlockable character, and we usually know about them until the games were released (or in his Brawl case, in a spoiler-sensitive video). Of course, Luigi and Toon Link were in that same boat. idk, I just find it a bit strange...

Also, Marth's dead when Mario sees this.

  2. I think I remember reading somewhere that with Smash 4, Sakurai allegedly cares a lot less than in previous iterations about spoilers. Luigi could very well remain an unlockable, but apparently in the jaded opinion of the developer himself, the internet is inevitably going to circulate spoilers like wildfire, so there is little purpose in keeping things hidden.

Can't remember if there is an official source on that, but I feel like Sakurai has mentioned that somewhere...

  3. I personally find that the series has long been relevant enough to warrant three character slots dedicated to it, anyhow. The perfect situation for me when I really think about it from a gameplay perspective would be to keep both Ike and Marth and introduce Chrom alongside them. He just makes the most sense. I'd love Lucina as much as the next, but I think we all know who's the most likely of those two, or of any new Fire Emblem characters, for that matter.

Chrom would be statistically in between Marth and Ike in his playstyle, just like in the actual FE series (well, for those most part, except for the fact that you can overpower Chrom to hell and back due to Awakening's infrastructure). Ike, I hope really returns just because I especially hold his games in a special place in my heart for what they offered me during my childhood. Plus, he's still like the most popular lord internationally the last time that I checked. I think he's a more viable choice than many, many others.

As per secret characters being shown early, I guess Sakurai really doesn't care anymore about spoilers being debunked after the SSE spoiler fest with Brawl pre-release. I don't really think it's viable logic, but whatever floats his boat is whatever floats his boat. Unlike others I don't think it means that we won't have unlockables, but it is something that's up in the air more than ever. Thought-provoking to say the least.

So today's screenshot features the Ray Gun of the game. And I've gotta say, that thing looks pretty awesome.

  5. Are you sure that's a ray gun, and not some sort of Bat-Signal for brawl? Seriously, the thing looks like a flash-light.

  6. According to Sakurai's Miiverse post regarding the image, they design the ray gun to not look like a real gun each time. Going by that, the ray gun looking like a flashlight almost sounds reasonable.

  7. Oh my god, today's screenshot has that thing from Find Mii! o_o

Apparently, Skull Kid's an Assist in this game.
    Awesome!

  9. I hope he drops the freaking moon on you!

Heh, I made a twewy reference. I'm so clever.

  10. Making a MIDI of the E3 trailer theme because holy shit, that track is fucking amazing.

(Well, trying my best, what with the gratuitous SFX and all.)

  11. Hey Dark, perhaps this can help you out a little bit?

  12. Used that for a bit of it already. :p

  13. For those of you waiting for Rosalina in a Smash Bros game, wait no longer!

Official site has updated, revealing her as a playable character. May have been something mentioned in this morning's Nintendo Direct, which I was not up in time for, but whatever...

    On a related note, this.

  14. Trailer theme is 144 BPM and in the key of D minor. ;)

E: A little preview, from the Samus lazer part. String section, specifically 11 violins.

  15. That Nintendo Direct was actually worth waking up slightly earlier than usual for. Little was I expecting for their to be so many cool updates. Really looking forward to the release of the final build of Hyrule Warriors, personally. The new Donkey Kong Country game also really begged for my attention for the first time. Cranky Kong's gameplay style brings back some great memories of playing the NES version of DuckTales with my sister. Now it's on my to-buy list, with the only other problem being that I have tooooo many games on my to-buy list in general. As far as February goes, Bravely Default *might* take precedent over it, though that's more on account of pre-order bonus boxes and all that.

Anywho, on the subject of Super Smash Bros., though? I was always more of a delusional fan of the idea of Waluigi somehow getting a playable spot in the game this time around. I know the character splits the fanbase straight down the middle in terms of likability, but eh, si a pretty coll guy lieks eggplant and doesn't afraid of anything, so he'd be unique. Though it wouldn't be the most outlandish thing in the world, I don't think we'll be seeing six Mario characters. Heck, I'm ecstatic that we're getting five, finally!

As for Rosalina herself, I never really expected her at first. I figured Bowser Jr. might have precedence over her, or maybe Toad, in terms of getting in the game as playable. With that said, I think that her inclusion was the best possible scenario now that I see her. For the same reasons I would've liked Waluigi in, I'm loving that she's in because she's completely unique in moveset design. I can totally see her as a character that my mom and sister will like playing as a lot, and am actually very happy with how she's gaining precedence in the gaming world in general. In terms of Mario characters, she's definitely the most interesting we've had in a long time. Dat backstory.

So, in short, I'm happy. Really great surprise. Sakurai doesn't disappoint.

  16. One princess follows another into this game. This time, it's another veteran: Zelda.

Will Ganondorf be following close behind, or should we expect a surprise from Link Between Worlds? idk.

All I know is that this move here is pretty awesome.

  17. After a break from the daily screenshots, we get a new one reminding us that trohpies are An Things. Though, the Miiverse post about it reveals more:

  18. If this were still Mercurious, people would be scrambling to write down "trophy lists" for Super Smash Fantasy now. Ohhh boy. :5
