Streets of Melsborough

Discussion in 'Freeform Roleplays' started by Spaughtyena, Apr 6, 2012.

  1. RE: Melsborough Streets

Thaddeus looked around for a couple of seconds, instinctivly looking for the bear which had dissapeared. He was looking until Jeremy came flying down the stairs with a slip of Paper. When he landed, yelling FREE COTTON CANDY! his attention was caught. Not because food was mentioned, but because of the unusually large shriek that came from him, although it could simply have been his hearing that caused it to be that way.

"Well, I have never actually had cotton candy before, but I would of course be welcome to try it". Thaddeus said, with a little bit of a smile. He was not one to turn down free food, especially since he had lived on the steets the majority of his life without it.

After the cheeta had asked how we would be getting to the fair Thaddeus said to her "Well you know, I would most likely assume that we would be getting there through the car upon which we arrived at this... establishment." Said Thaddeus, although in a much more polite and gentlemenly voice then he usually had. "Although it was a valid question, as we could indeed be taking some other vehichle, or perhaps even walk to the carnival, or fair if you will. Also towards Jeremy, I would also like to know how we would be getting to this fair."

Jeremy gave you both a smile as he plopped himself onto the couch, and began to put on his sneakers. "Well actually I'm thinkin' were going to have to walk there seeing as mr. grumpy-antlers just left, no doubt leavin' us without the van." He stood up after patting down the last velcrove strap across his hindpaw. "Well, I've got on my sneakers and I'm still full of energy, how's about we took a walk there, sides' I'm thinkin' the air outside will be nicer than that stanky old van anyway." He chuckled as he bounced on his heels, not seeming to notice or care that the house was down one corpulent bear.

  3. RE: Melsborough Streets

"Heh" Thaddeus sort of chuckles at the small joke that Jeremy had cracked. "Well, thats fine with me. I walked all the way to Melsborough, so I would assume the some-what smaller walk off to the fair will not be nearly as bad" Thaddeus said to Jeremy, while he fiddled around with the buttons on his pockets, albeit them now being empty. "Well, there is just one thing I would have to ask before we head off. Where has that bear dissapeared to?"

  4. RE: Melsborough Streets

"I could care less where the bear is, the faster we set off the faster I get my burger Jeremy promised me. I look over at Jeremy and give a wink. I turn toward the door and start to walk not waiting to see if anyone follows. I stop without facing Jeremy and say " You know this will probably the last time we will see each other so we may as well go have some fun." I walk out the door and stop just outside realizing I have no idea which way to go.

Jeremy smiled broadly, nodding quickly. "Uh, yeah I'll make sure you get that burger. And we'll hit all the rides too!" He made his way over to the door and looked through the glass window. "Oh, the van's still here. Looks like the deer took a hike, didn't think he had it in him." Jeremy said with a chuckle. He grasped the door and pulled it open, allowing a soft breeze and ample sunlight shine into the room.

There was still no sign of the bear, whether you cared or not was a diferent story, though it was to be noted that the deer specifically said that the bear would be the 'man-of-the-house' until he got back -- wherever it was he went. the only sure thing was that he probably wasn't coming back or a long tim, and that gave you ample time to do whatever you wanted until nightfall. It was an approximate 20 minute walk to the fair, but the weather was holding up, so rain or clouds wouldn't be a problem, though it was evident with all the recent activities that the alleys still weren't and optimal route to take.

  6. On the way to the fair I look at my companions. A rough looking little pug and a cute little fox. What am I doing going to a fair? I think to myself. At least the weather is nice. Hopefully my last few hours here will be fun, if not I am always up for a little excitement. Fighting always seems to make me feel better about myself, and theres nothing like the taste of an enemies blood on my tongue.

You begin your walk to the fair, the freshly fallen autumn leaves painting the ground with lush oranges and deep reds. Only the smell of smoke and the faint odor of your companions travelled with you as you made your way through the abandoned streets. Even through the light of the morning the sidewalks and empty passageways only reflected the lifestyles of those who called this town home.

Along your walk you encounter an empty playground. The equipment was neglected and dark, something out of a horror film. As the wind picked up the see-saw raised, giving off a moan of agony, its rusted hinges barely able to hold its own weight. The other end planted itself in the gravel with a flat 'thud.' The surrounding area was vacant -- not a soul in sight, perhaps they were all at the fair.

The fair could be seen on the other side of a small hill, Jeremy's face lighting up almost immediately. The fair was closer than you had expected, many of the customers visible, as well as a majority of the rides.

Among the many goers of the fair, there are a few that catch your eye:

The Lion: Leaning against one of many carnival games was a lion. This man in particular didn't seem to fit in with the backdrop of the fair. His outline not blending with the rest -- An outsider. He wore a black leather jacket but left it open to show his bare chest. His emerald eyes complementing his yellow-orange fur. He had short auburn hair, and his body was adorned by many charcoal stripes. He seemed unrecognized by everyone around him. It was clear that he had arrived recently based on his composure and decency of clothing, though you couldn't be sure just how long it had been since he first walked into Melsborough.

The Lone Coyote: He sat near the center of the fair, occasionally taking a sip of coffee or turning a page of his newspaper. He wore a simple blue T-shirt, and faded jeans. His rugged brown fur pressed down by the tightness of his shirt. He seemed tense, often making quick glances to anyone who came within striking distance of him. His facial features never seemed to change, always tensed into deep concentration. For the most part he was completely alone. Anyone who came to talk or share his seat was quickly shoved away by a stern look, or a swipe of his paw.

A cheerful child: Sitting on the edge of a picnic table was a small vulpine boy, his age just barely in double digits. He giggled, and waved at passersby. His small grey hoodie and baggy jeans set his attitude perfectly -- happy and uncaring and his pockets filled to the brim with nick-knacks and a few jingling coins. Though strangely enough even through all his vivid and cheerful personality not s single man or woman showed interest, it was as if he were a ghost, seen only by those with an affinity for outsiders.

Audience of one: Sitting alone on the bleachers was a middle aged man. He had a torn brown overcoat complemented by a white sleeveless shirt. The khaki's he wore were olive in color with smudges of dirt at the knees. Though vulpine in figure his burgundy fur shone red in the moonlight. His head rested between folded arms as he contemplated his life, occasionally turning his muzzle to look at many fresh faces. He tuned his ears to the sound of laughter, he had a distant smile on his face, though like many of the others, he was alone. Left to live in his own bubble of reality, not subjected to the harshness of reality. His brown over coat was supplemented by his bright yellow eyes, reflecting gold from the lights surrounding the arena.

The rest of the fair was mingled with all ilk of people, keeping an organised line of fast food trucks behind the carnival games. The carousel and Ferris wheel sharing entrances. There was a small roller coaster that climbed over top of a large circus tent, smoke bellowing out of the tent's entrance.

Your examination of the fair was broken at relatively the same time Jeremy's patience ran out. "C'mon guys! Last one through is a rotten egg!" Jeremy happily bounded down the hill waving for you to follow him. The melodic tinkling of the carousel and occasional popping of balloons encouraging your curiosity.

  8. James had been leaning against the dart stall the whole time he had been there, refusing to play. He was doing it on purpose, trying to annoy the carnies the same way him always losing at their rigged games always pissed him off. He was quite cynical of the fair. Although he knew they had to make money, doing it in such an underhanded fashion was borderline criminal. "Damn these games," He said to nobody in particular, "They're so obviously rigged, yet these people are still taken in by them." James began to survey the area, his emerald eyes first crossing the average patrons, then a small boy, then a few people at the entrance. Not knowing who to start with, he decided to pick one at random using the tried-and-true method of using a children's rhyme to pick. The final "moe" landed on the people at the entrance, who James then proceeded to walk over to. However, when he got there, he proceeded to become stuck on how to introduce himself without sounding like an overly cynical douche for once in his life, so he decided to wait for them to ask who he was.

  9. "Well, that walk was quite a bit shorter then I had expected." Thaddeus said, with his hands in his pockets. Looking up at the carnival, he noticed that it actually was quite a bit bigger then he had expected, considering the rest of Melsborough that he has seen. "You know, considering the rest of Melsborough, this place isn't half bad." Thaddeus walked up to the entrance with the rest of them, and did the regular thing they had to do with tickets, And then walked on in. From what he could see, there were quite a bit of Carnival Games near the entrance, but there were some more rides from what he could see further in. It took him a second, but he noticed one person in particular, an Anthropomorphic Lion, walking straight towards his group. He did not seem to have too much of a serious look on his face, so it might not be important, or maybe he was just going to leave the fair. For sure it could not be to mug them, out on the open like this would probably cause a riot. Either way, Thaddeus decided to greet the lion once he got up to them. "Well.. Hello? Do you need anything?" Thaddeus said to the lion, who seemed to just walk up and stand there, like a bit of a mute.

  10. I walk in with the rest of the group surveying my surroundings. Disgusting. I think. Too many people disgusting smells and carnies to boot. I notice a small vulpine and smile in spite of myself.. Someyhing about his youth draws me too him. "I am going over to see the young fox over there." I say to no one in particular. As I walk towards the young fox I notice a lion walking towards us. He does not look overly threatening though appearences can be decieving. I bypass the lion and head for the youth. I crouch down beside him. "Hello there, looks like you are having a good time." Are you from around here?" I look back at the group to see if they are alright with the lion, knowing that I could be there and on top of the lion with knives out before anyone could take a breath. I await the young vulpines response and try tp smile without looking dangerous, which is becoming more and more difficult as time goes by.

The small boy tilts his muzzle to face you, his large grin unchanged. "I guess you could say I'm from around here, My name is Kyte. I like to hang out with Mr. Richards, he's a police officer!" He giggles and looks around, his nose visibly twitching as he licks his lips. "You wanna get some ice cream with me?" He leans towards you with a sly grin. "I know a way to get it without even paying -- Any kind you like, no foolin'!" He makes a quick gaze at a ice cream truck parked idly in the centre of the chip trucks.

The fair was -- at best, bearable. Although to Jeremy it seemed more like an explosion of fun... Then again, it practically was compared to the rest of the town. The rest of the fair goers just milled about. Occastionally a shriek of joy was amitted by a game participant. The white cheetah did seem to take an interest in the small fox boy. Either way It didn't stop Jeremy from hopping his way towards the many lights and shoddy rides that were in abundance. It was clear this was the first time you'd get a chance to socialize, and maybe even have some fun. Whatever your poison is, Melborough's got plenty...

  12. Realising that Thaddeus had been the first one to speak up and greet him, James jolted out of his daydream. "Oh, uh... the name's Larkin. James Larkin. I suppose you could call me the cynical cat." He said to Thaddeus, "Just came over here out of curiosity to see if there was anyone to talk to. Gets kinda boring when you refuse to play the games these scammers run on principle. Who might you be?" He looked from Thaddeus to the others, waiting for a response from any of them, really. As he was waiting, he noticed one of them -- Jeremy, a fox -- seemed to be a lot more excited about that fair than he had ever been in his life. James wondered why, as most of what was being plugged at places like these were borderline scams. No, the rings didn't fit around the bottlenecks. They were just too small, and he could swear the darts were weighted in some way. James decided to not ruin their fun by telling them any more about what he thought of the fair, however, and decided to continue waiting for a response.

  13. "You can Call me Thaddeus, although if you really need to know my full name is Thaddeus Barclay. I came here with this group here to the fair, hoping to have a bit of fun to lighten up the mood. I could say I needed it as well, I did not exactly have the perfect entrance to Melsbrough you know. Anyways, since you walked over from the stall there, I think it could be assumed that you have been at this fair for a little bit. Are there any rides, or attractions you would suggest?" Thaddeus said to James. Looking around, Thaddeus could see a few rides, stalls, and other attractions. He thought to himself Hmm, compared to the other places I have been today, this place seems like a walk in the park, quite literally... Thaddeus waited for his response from the Lion, putting his hands in his pockets while doing so.

  14. "Thaddeus, eh? Interesting name." James replied, reaching his right hand out for a simple handshake. He may have been cynical of things like fairground attractions, but he tended more towards forsaking that demeanor when talking to new faces. He wanted to make a good first impression after all. "Stuff I'd suggest... Hmmm..." He thought for a moment. "Definitely stay away from these stupid games. They're damn near rigged. Rides, however? I'd recommend the Zipper. Had a lot of fun on that one a few hours ago." He looked around, trying to find any other rides to recommend, however he couldn't find any and decided to simply wait for Thaddeus to respond yet again.

  15. "Hmm, rigged are they? Never really cared much for establishments which cheat to gain profit, however judging on the conditions of the town, who could really blame them. If these people feel like getting their money scammed out of them, then they can be my guest. Now, other then that, you suggested a ride called The Zipper?" Thaddeus went on, perhaps sounding a little more excited than he really was. "Ahem... anyways I guess Ill head off to one of the rides then, perhaps the one you suggested. If you would like, you could come with us, if you do not have anything better to do."

Thaddeus then set off in the direction of the ride known as the Zipper. Walking through, it was nice to see a change of face. The smiles on peoples faces rather then the pure bleakness of the rest of Melsborough. About half way towards the first ride however, Thaddeus took notice of the man he had seen earlier, the one with the brown over coat, over by the bleachers. Hmm, perhaps I should have a little chat with this man as I pass by, who knows. He looks as if he is friendly enough... Thaddeus walked on towards the man, and said "Hello there sir... I could not really help but notice you here over by the bleachers, and I thought I had min-aswell come up and say hi... so, hello!" Thaddeus was a bit nervous about greeting this man, but he went ahead and waited for a response anyways, as he had already said something...
