Streets of Melsborough

Discussion in 'Freeform Roleplays' started by Spaughtyena, Apr 6, 2012.

  1. The streets of Melsborough are dark, it is 12:03, mid autumn. the cold air blows all around you, you've been travelling for hours, possibly walking, or driving.. Maybe you rented a taxi... doesn't matter now, you're all alone.

Your looking down the sidewalk, up ahead you see the dim neon lights of a convienence store, to the west there is an appartment complex, to the east.. the alleyways and dark corners are in abundance, and the smell of smoke and the feeling in your gut tells you that this is a dangerous place to be.

There is no option for turning back, there won't be another taxi driver in this small town for months maybe, so you might as well press on.

  2. RE: Melsbrough Streets

I look ahead and realize I am in yet another hole of a town, nothing to do but continue on. My stomach reminds me I haven't eaten in hours. Convenience stores are not my favorite place to eat but its all I've got right now, and with only twenty dollars to my name until I get another job snack food will be it.

  3. RE: Melsbrough Streets

You walk into the convenience store. Behind the counter is a skinny human man, he wears a blue plad shirt and denim pants. The store is old and weathered, even from the inside, many of the shelves have small layers of dust coating them, and are close to being bare, only a few bags of chips and a few candy bars litter the old shelves. There is a soda machine at the other side of the store, opposite from your current position. The lights in the ceiling and the soda machine flicker, making it seem as they could go out at any moment.

The man looks at you as you enter. "Haven't seen you before ma'am. Are you a tourist? If so I'll save you the trouble.. there's not really anything to see here. Melsborough isn't a very nice neighborhood, especially at this time of night." he cleans off his glasses as he speaks. He maintains his upright posture, but his voice and eyes tell you that he is very weary, and maybe a little depressed.

  4. RE: Melsbrough Streets

"Not a tourist and not a very nice person either." I scan the racks and see nothing that I would eat. Do you have anything even remotely edible here?" I walk to the pop cooler and deposit my coins and get a gingerale. Knowing I have to eat something or feel sick I reach for a giant package of jerky. I walk back to the cashier and pay for my food. " wheres the nearest motel?

  5. RE: Melsbrough Streets

He puts his glasses back on and puts the money in the register. "Ah.. nearest motel from here is about 3 blocks west of here, its about the only nice place left to stay." He leans on the counter a bit closer now. "If you haven't noticed it yet, Melsborough isn't exactly overflowing with people or coin, so do us a favor lady, don't make it any worse than it has to be, we got enough troubles as it is." the conversation is ended abruptly as one the the lights in the store blows.

The ceiling, now shedding orange sparks, offers little light, and though it had previously seemed impossible, the store had successfully gotten more depressing, along with its resident. you look at the clock: 12:42. upon taking a glance outside you notice that the streets are still vacant, only small bits of trash and rodents populate the streets... just another night in Melsborough...

  6. RE: Melsbrough Streets

I leave the store walking in the direction of the aforementioned motel. I scan the streets with a calculating coldness knowing that there are things out here that I would rather not mess with. Not that I couldnt take them. It just seems like a waste of energy that could be better spent doing something a little more fun or exotic.

  7. RE: Melsbrough Streets

You walk for a good 20 minutes or so, attempting to ingore the fact that every street seems to be a repitition of the last. You turn a corner the leads into the parking lot for the motel and are astounded to see that the lot is bathed in light. Lights from neon signs seem to come from every direction. The parking lot itself seems to be alive as many of the curbs and hoods of cars have an abundance of people of all ilk. Even though this place is more lively and compelling, you still can't shake yourself from feeling uneasy, knowing that outside the comforting lights of the complex, the rotted dank city of Melsborough stands.

Your attention is ripped from your current general perspective of the lot and over to a group of individuals. the voice that caught your attention was from a male deer, he waves you over, and on closer inspection the deer had been playing cards with two other young men, one being a corpulent bear, black in colour and the other a lanky orange fox. at the sight of a few brown bottles it was evident that they had also been drinking.

The deer looks up at you with a smirk. "Well, well haven't seen you around here before, you a tourist?" theres a moment of silence before he bursts out in abrupt laughter. "Ha! Of course your not! Melsborough hasn't seen an honest to god tourist since.... well, ever!" the three of them laugh in unison, before letting the laughter drag itself to a stop.
The fox gives a look at you before reaching around his back to a small foam cooler, and pulls out a beer. "You wan't a drink? Still got plenty left, better than anything you'll get in town that's for sure! 'Sides by the looks of you, you could use a cold one!" as the fox spoke he had a thick australian accent, and seemed to be the one with all the party supplies.
The bear who had been sitting quietly extends a hand. "Names Ben, and you are..?"

Thaddeus, after having walked along alleyways for hours finally decides to take it easy for a bit, and finish up his walk on the side walk. Walking ahead, in a some what odd walk, he sort of mumbles something to himself and looks ahead. Checking his pockets, he only has the bit of change he has ever found on the streets. He makes off towards the convenience store, in hopes there is something there cheap enough for him to buy, or if he has to, steal.

He reaches around back of him and grabs a ciggarette from the shelf, and lights one up. "If your going to buy something, do it already, I haven't got all night."

Thaddeus looks over, barely having noticed what the man even said. "Huh?",He says while he picks up a candy bar, and puts a few coins on the desk. "Believe it or not, this is one of my better me- MEALS IVE EATEN For A WHILE!" Says Thaddeus, his Personality seeminly changing in the middle of his sentence. Thaddeus Simply then walks out the door, after grabbing the candy bar, and heads toward the alley way to try and find a place to stay for the night.

You leave the store and make your way to the alleyways. you walk towards the alleys, compared to the rest of the city, they are dark and seem to loom over you, walking through them is like traversing a cavern filled with horrible odours, vermin, and broken dreams. You are overtaken by a mixture of sadness and fear, at the sight of crumpled magazines and smashed memoirs, and the smell of smoke is becoming ever stronger... As you go deeper you notice almost no signs of life at all, other than the smell of blood, and your own fear, there is no-one to be seen.

Making a better observation of your surroundings allows you to notice a small glimmer of hope -- light.. You earnestly walk towards it, knowing it could be your only safe-haven against whatever may lurk in the depths of Melsboroughs darkest reccesses. Reaching the light you notice that the source is a metal barrel, its contents set ablaze by 2 indiviuals, one a scrawny coyote, and the other a well toned cougar, both male. The cougar looks at you, he is wearing a blue sweatshirt, and ripped jeans, he bears a grin that unnerves you, and his eyes seem to burn through you...

He looks to your face, as if he can taste your fear. "Hey grandpa, what are you doing out so late?" the coyote swivels around him to your left side -- He's flanking you... the coyote speaks with an eerie sarcasm. "Yeah gramps, ain't it kinda dangerous for you to be out here alone... hehe, I'm thinkin' you must be lost." the cougar withdraws a crowbar from his lengthy sleeve. "Yeah, and he's new too... guess with have initiate you! Or... there is another option..." the coyote puts his muzzle near your face, and you feel the prick of a switchblade on your side. "Hehe, yeah, you give us all your stuff, and we don't beat the fuck out of you!" the cougar looks at you once more, and taps the crowbar on his palm. "So what's it gonna be grandpa?" the coyote slinks around behind you now. "C'mon gramps.... give us some money...." they both have sadistic grins on their faces, and you can tell that they've done this before...

No beer thank you. The names Mystra pronounced Meestra. "What is all this I would have thought that there would be no one here." I look around, hating the amount of people swarming near me. I move so that my back is away from all the writhing bodies. Look I am not here to make friends, I am here to find a place to crash until the next town." I decide that I have had enough of the fake comradery and make my way toward the entrance of the motel. "See you later boys".

  13. RE: Melsbrough Streets

Thaddeus looks at the Coyote, and Cougar and realizes he is most likely out matched if he were to try and fight them. So Thaddeus simply pulls the coins he has out of his pocket, only being about 5 and hands them over, not really wanting to get in a fight. Thaddeus can usually find that much on the ground if he goes looking for a few hours anyways. "I'm sorry, but that is all of the money I have... You see I'm not exactly the type to have all that much money, I mean I roam from town to town simply looking for a place to sleep." Thaddeus then walks out, in search of a bit more of a safe place to sleep, in hope that they will not follow him. Thaddeus then heads towards the apartment complex, in hopes that it is abandoned, and that he can sleep in a bit more of a safe place then the alleyway.

As you start to leave you feel a hand on your shoulder -- The coyote speaks out. "Hey I ain't done with you yet!" he trips you onto your back and flips out the switchblade. "just like dissecting a frog..." you feel him put the blade into your mouth, and begin slicing the soft tissues within....

The cougar is standing quietly, still bearing the sadistic grin he has worn thus far, he looks at his watch. "C'mon man, just finish him already, we don't have all day.. sides, I wanna spend his coin soon, lest we have the whole city after us.." he taps his foot and lights up a ciggarette.

The coyote, looks back briefly. "Yeah, yeah, just let me have a littel fun before then end will you, jeez!"

You begin to head towards the appartments, but a slender hand touches your shoulder, you look back and realize it was the fox who had invaded your personal space. "Hey, uh.. listen I'm sorry if we offended in any way, I just... Look, if you need a place to crash I can let you stay at my place, I mean it ain't much, but uh...." he looks towards the motel, and appartments. "I don't think you'll have enough money to stay in there mate, don't really think anyone in melsborough really does, 'sept ol' Kajael." his ears pin back as he mutters under his breath. "Rich Bastard"

  16. RE: Melsbrough Streets

Thaddeus, feeling like a couple hundred razor blades are about to pierce his throat suddenly grows quite angry. Thaddeus then grabs the wrist of the coyote, and pulls the knife out of his mouth, and rolls to the side. Strangely, as angry as he as gotten, he has not gained an ounce of courage, and in a quite loud voice he shouts "Hahaha! That was quite a sneaky trick you did there, but I have got to run... So see ya!"

Thaddeus then sprints in the direction of the apartment complex, with the hopes of out running the two sneaky bastards who had robbed him. Thaddeus, running from them grips his throat a bit, feeling a bit of blood trickling down the back, almost choking him. He is not quite as worried about this at the moment though, and he does not look back, for fear of slowing down and being caught by the pair. He knew that the coyote had been just barely weaker then him, however he may not be faster, with his short legs. If it comes down to it, he may end up having to fight.

(OoC: Probably going to die here, aren't I? :p

  17. RE: Melsbrough Streets

I reach up and remove the foxes hand from my shoulder and take a calming breath. "You have a point, though I do not willingly trust anyone. I realize that unless I take the fox up on his offer I will be sleeping in the streets of Melsborough. " I will take you up on your offer, though I will not thank you until I am on my way again. I never like to thank anyone and then realize that the person is going to kill me." I offer a slight grin and move to sit beside the trio.

You sit on the curb with the trio, and are immediately given a brisque pat on the back by the deer."So, you changed your mind did you? Jeremy's always had a way with words... anywho, you hungry? want something to eat? think I still got something back here..." he reaches around to a blue plastic bag and pulls out a cardboard box, immediately you can smell fries, with an overdose of ketchup. He raises a brow, and extends the box over to you. "I don't mind.. really, go ahead take it."

The fox, who you now know as Jeremy looks at you again, this time with his head cocked slightly to the side in question. "So what exacly are you doin' in Melsborough mate? it ain't exacly the safest place to be right now, and it sure ain't overflowing with coin either, and uh.... I'll be blunt with ya, Nobody just walks into Melsborough with good intentions no more..."

You look around, and many people are conversing and carousing in this part of town, you pick out 2 distinct groups, one a trio of men sitting with a female cheetah, white in color. The other are a group of 3 men, looking to be in their late twenties, by the looks of it they had just arrived. The cheetah was simply talking to the group, as were the men, you know either way would be a good choice to converse with, as there were no signs of hostility from either group, now you just have to make a choice...

  20. RE: Melsbrough Streets

Thaddeus, glad to having gotten out of there notices a couple of groups ahead. Having already met a couple of residents of Melsbrough, and they having not been to happy to see him. He was a bit more comforted by the fact that he had found somewhere nice and light though. Thaddeus walks over to the group with the cheeta, in hopes that these people are just a bit friendlier then the last group...
