[Statplay/3S|Sci-Fantasy] Of Wars in Osyrhia

Discussion in 'Interest Checks' started by Nebulon Ranger, Oct 31, 2013.

  1. Hey ZEJians, Ranger here. Have you ever wanted to see a roleplay in the vein of Final Fantasy (but not a direct clone thereof!) with ancient robots and shit? Ever wondered what happened to a certain Spaught character's entire civilisation and why he's the only one left? Well, you can find the answer to these questions by joining Dennis Matthews and Logel Gate on an epic quest into the past to investigate the ancient Arkadian civilisation! Kill shit, get items and level up your abilities in...

    ~@"Nebulon Ranger" Presents...~
    ~Of Wars in Osyrhia~

Of Wars in Osyrhia is a 3S-based statplay with a unique combination high-fantasy/steam/cyberpunk theme to it. Technically taking place in the same time period as Original A.R.K.N.E.T., it involves going back in time under the direction of a special operations unit of the shadowy ARKNET assassin conglomerate with the cousin of Judas Numidius -- Dennis Matthews, the Demigod of Fire -- played by me, and Logel Gate, an Anthrodroid played by @Spaughtyena, and embarking on an epic quest to investigate -- and possibly fight -- the ancient Arkades. Also involved is an in-depth backstory/explanation on the origins of Jude, Dennis and the Arkades themselves. Will you take up your blade and abilities to further the cause of your employer in the your native time -- 8052 -- or will you instead convince Dennis and Logel to disobey ARKNET and fight with the enemy? Whichever you choose, friendship, hardship and epic adventures await you on the ancient world of Osyrhia.

Now, of course, like its parent roleplay and canon, Of Wars in Osyrhia's only limit for character creation is the player's imagination -- this means that anthros, humans, and whatever else you might think of for a character are explicitly allowed. However, be aware that this is a statplay, and we are starting at Level 1, so we cannot under any circumstances be overpowered out the gate. What this means is that you can pick any of the base races as mentioned in ARKNET's profile thread in Freeform, you can mix those up, or you can make something completely original, but you cannot abuse this to make something that breaks the game early on or makes it too easy for the party to advance. However, since this is ZEJ, I can place some trust in the fact that most wouldn't do this. Please prove me right and not wrong.

With all that out of the way, I hope to see many people making profiles for this once the associated thread is up and running.

  2. This seems like it could be right up my alley, in terms of genre! Only thing is that I'm not really into the whole 3S thing.

  3. Eebit - I see that inkling of interest. Hasn't your mother told you not to judge something until you've tried it? What about the 1st time you tried other statplay systems? You must've been slightly apprehensive then as well no? If you really are interested, give it a go! But uhh...

    I wasn't here.. shhh...

  4. It's less that I'm apprehensive to try it out and more that, well, the profile format simultaneously confuses me and feels slightly... restrictive.

Don't get me wrong, if this must be done in the 3S system I would still certainly try my best to join, but we do have a fully-functional system with the 'traditional statplay' format...

  5. I'm just going to chime in here:

Eebit, I know you mean well with this, but I've been over why I'm reluctant to use the traditional system many times, and it's that magic is a pain in the ass to do and quite daunting when starting from scratch. This isn't to say that I won't get around to implementing it from that ground up via my own "formula" at some point in the future, but given that I have zero clue how to do it at the moment (though I want to learn), it won't be happening for a while yet.

You can make the argument that 3S is different for the sake of it and that's fine, but remember that even though crazE did do a decent magic system, that doesn't mean absolutely everyone is capable of it. That's what's mainly holding me back from making my own variant of the traditional system.

Of course, if I had an idea of where to start, this wouldn't be as much of a problem, but I don't, so here we are.

I don't want to chase you off, and I'll try my best to help you out with 3S' profile so you can understand it more (it looks confusing but it really isn't once you dive right into it, trust me). I can understand the restrictive point of view, but I used to feel the same way about the traditional system (admittedly I'm woefully out of practise with that so I probably fail at it anyway).

Long story short: I would, but I don't want to for three reasons:

    1. I suck at balancing magic.
    2. I don't want to imply one system and then turn around and use another.
    3. I want to be able to do everything myself. This isn't a matter of pride, rather one of self-reliance.

  6. Unlike a lot of things here, I'm interested in this.

  7. UPDATE: Magic system is done and balanced (to the best of my abilities) This RP /Could/ be a thing provided @Nebulon Ranger is still going to do it.

  8. I'd still like to see this become A Thing, so I'm still interested in joining.

  9. I'm still into doing this.

  10. Goody, I'll try for a profile sheet, maybe after exams?

  11. Still waiting warmly for this; is this going to happen in the foreseeable future @Nebulon Ranger ?
