[Something] Kingmaker

Discussion in 'Interest Checks' started by KansasNomad, Jul 16, 2014.

  1. I'm not really sure what this would be considered, but I thought I'd pitch my idea here since it could become something really interesting.

Basically the idea is we play a game that takes place during a civil war for the crown of a fictional nation, like the War of the Roses, and RP the battles and stories that take place whenever a move is made. People will have to move in turns, a map will have to be made, territories drawn, titles created, and a way for the whole group to be able to see and move pieces on the map in an easy manner. Also a set of rules to play by. Other than that, players can do whatever they feel like to make their person the queen or king of the realm.

It could be played at a pretty slow pace or a pretty fast pace. One thing I will say is that there will be post minimum, set by the people that get involved. Those that miss the minimum will have their turn skipped and their absence noted by the other characters and players. There will also be a maximum number of people playing, I'm thinking like 4 to 6 depending on the interest this gets.

It would take some time to get together but I think it would be something really cool to do. Let me know if you're interested.

  2. This sounds neat-o. Do you have anything in mind to grow it? And would it be more realistic/historical-fiction or would it be fantasy-based?

  3. Right now I'm not thinking of putting in a ton of fantasy unless those that join demand it. simply because I don't know how it would change the mechanics of the game. I've been working on it during my free time today and already have a rough map drawn up and an idea for the kinds of soldiers the players could use. I'll be putting it up soon.

On another note, those that join would have the chance to create their own House, sort of the the Lancasters and the Yorks, with their own backstory and the reasons why they believe they have a right to the Crown of the Kingdom. I think that in itself leaves a lot of room for creativity. If it did come down to it though, the stand-out trait of each house would be like some sort of power, like pyromancy or something, in addition to other physical traits the House creator comes up with.

Just be careful to engage in battles though because if your people get captured, the captives could be executed at any time for any reason.

I'm still working on the mechanics of the game and stuff though so I'll keep this thread, or a new thread if I'm forced to move it, updated as this progress. The only real issue I'm having right now is how all of the people are going to view and move their pieces on the map.
