Red Diamonds & Blue Pearls

Discussion in 'Creation Station' started by TheAuthorGl1m0, Jan 24, 2012.

  1. No, it's not those KataKomics I like drawing so much. (*cue disappointed groan*) It's something new, and fresh! ...Well, somewhat.

I've started, and will hencefore maintain, an new sprite comic of mine! One that I like to call... Red Diamonds & Blue Pearls! Basically, it's going to be the story of D/P/Pt... retold in an older, Game Boy-reminiscent art style!

Here's the link to the site: http://reddiamondsbluepearls.smackjeeves.com/

...So? You like, perhaps? It's only just begun, but it'll keep getting better, I promise!

(And yes, I haven't been on ZEJ much lately, but I've had some issues at home. :( Sue me.)

  2. RE: A new webcomic? From ME?!

Teehee, it's nice. XD Poor underwear-deprived child who got Dia's undies. XD

  3. RE: A new webcomic? From ME?!

It a fun comic. I appreciate the nostalgic grafics btw.

  4. RE: A new webcomic? From ME?!

^ Yes, the GSC graphics are a plus. :D I love GSC graphics!

Thankee you both. :3 Makes me happy to hear feedback. ^_^

Anyhow, besides my more "recent" updates (including a newly added "Meet The Characters" and "FAQ" section), I've also done some...experimenting. Seeing as how RDBP is in an 8-bit GSC GameBoy graphics style visually, I decided to try out making music from DP that fits the style as well. ...I suck at proper MIDI sequencing however, so I just took some ripped MIDIs from D/P and applied a NES/GameBoy soundfont (and in some cases sped up the track). :p At least it sounds kind of authentic. I already 'remixed' a few tunes as a sort of "demo". Maybe I should continue this trend and remix ALL the songs from DP? Hey, maybe it would make the comic more dynamic. XD

Please, let me know if they sound alright to you! I practically live off of feedback. (I know that sounds pathetic, but sue me. I DID say I was currently depressed after all. :/)

  6. Its a great comic Glowbo! I like it because I think I can sort of relate to pearl... :D

  7. Just for the record here, I totally dig this comic. It's quirky, and really fun to follow along. I wish I knew when the new issues were out though so that I didn't have to fish along through the thing... ah well, still a great comic with sweet style and some funny humour! :>

  8. Thanks again, you two! :D I almost forgot how fun it is to make new comics. Right now, I'm hard at work on the next one (with any luck, I can finish it late today!), but until the next update, I just have a little something to share you with folks.

Remember how I posted those links to the "8-bit"ized music from D/P? Well, after looking back on what I did, it doesn't sound very authentic. After all, it's just a MIDI with a fancy 8-bit soundfont. Close, but no cigar. So, I finally got around to making a D/P song in FamiTracker! That's right--authentic 8-bit NES sound! And what better place to start for music than Route 201?

The NSF file (Nintendo Sound File) is here. ---> Route 201
You'll need an emulator like FCEUX to play it, though. Or you can just play it with VLC Media Player, either one works.

As a bonus, there's also a ZIP file including the NSF, plus an MP3 file of the song, and the original FamiTracker module I made it with! ---> Route 201 + Module

I'll likely be doing Twinleaf Town next, followed by either Diamond or Pearl's leitmotif song. And then maybe a battle theme next... but it's not like tracking these is easy. I pretty much have to plot it all out by ear! (Fun Fact: That 30 second loop of Route 201? It took me FOUR HOURS.)

This is my first-ever FT song, so please let me know how it sounds. I should have the next comic up in a jiffy. And it only took four months. Huh. Keep tabs, people!

    FINALLY! FINISHED! THAT! DARN! COMIC!

...Well, Comic 02-014 is finished at least. :p But it's a start! I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on further updates here!

  10. Well, that was quick. Another update, so soon after the last. Also, lawl, triple post.

    02-015: Belated Intros

I'm on a roll today. :D Possibly because it's my birthday and all, but whatevs. :p
