Oblivion Phantasy ~ World for Two 【RP Thread】

  1. Losglea Jungle's impenetrable and threatening mass which, despite occupying a respectable portion of the Sarrex Region and being home to dangerous monsters, was being traversed by the two Hunters. They were Siendra Roale, and Takuya Kanai, tasked with the location and, if possible, investigation the source of the recent monster outbreak. The duo walked forward, their only sense of direction being the vague position of the blazing sun above, and followed the jungle's way into its vastly unexplored core. Occasionally they would stumble upon the decayed carcasses of unfortunate travelers, and wary predators who were easily avoided for they were simply attempting to defend their territory, but aside from that, the Losglea Jungle seemed to be devoid of human interference. Their travels had managed to get them quite far inside the biome without further trouble, but that was to be shortlived.

    Nature's encroaching, tightening form upon both suddenly loosened as they arrived onto another section of the jungle. Tropical trees stood distanced through an indefinite, unspoken order, letting in the refreshing light of the celestial morning wisp bathe several sections of the area despite their dense arrangement of branches. The copious undergrowth which nearly suffocated the Hunters was gone, replaced by patches of grass and several bushes in the midst of the brown soil, with vines wildly snaking, coursing through them. However, their way was to be met with opposition, as the distinctive noise of shifting through leaves was heard. Faintly at first, but it rapidly escalated up to a point the both could see the verdant, almost unnatural outlines of... plants. A battle cry of ferociously snapping mandibles, the surprisingly fluid movements of the dirt-stained stubs stemming from a main body veined with slightly yellow vines... it could only possibly belong to a Venus Walker.

    Three monsters in total stopped within moderate distance, using the position of the trees to their tactical advantage. To continue, they would have to get rid of them first.


    Chapter I ~ I: Jungle's Threat

  2. "Of all the places to be sent."

    "Quit your griping."

    Siendra Roale snorted as she trailed along behind the confident-acting Takuya Kanai, who walked over tree routes and even the occasional carcass with the liquid grace of a forest predator. The term "Hunter" was ambiguous to him, as he hunted for both treasure and prey... which occasionally annoyed his fox-eared compaion. Siendra sighed after a few moments of general silence, which made the Shapeshifter look back at her in general amusement as she poked her spear into a bush, scaring off some small animal that neither even looked to see.

    "Aw, c'mon now," Takuya laughed as they reached a less enclosed space. "Think of it as... an opportunity. Untouched land. Unclaimed treasure. Undiscovered secrets." His golden eyes gleamed. Siendra gave an ironic grin and started to say something in return, only for Takuya to tense up and look in the direction they were going. Three Venus Walkers, likely looking for a meal, were waiting for them. Both Shapeshifter and Dreamcatcher exchanged looks. Takuya was grinning with visible fangs.

    "Ya up for this, Roale?"

    "You know it."

  4. "Let's trim some weeds."

    Takuya's comment was immedately followed by him darting to the side, between two bushes. On the other side of one was a bag the Shapeshifter had easily spotted; the young man signalled for Siendra to follow, and with an eyebrow raise she did. The Dreamcatcher stopped near one of the bushes with a quick "What are you doing?" to which Takuya simply pointed over the bush to the bag. Nothing happened for a moment... until Siendra noticed the arm was becoming a wing.

    Takuya winked as the transformation accelerated, ending with a red-brown hawk hovering and looking at Siendra with an intense golden gaze. Siendra gave the bird a look, knowing full well what Takuya was doing. And that it would leave her alone for a minute. The Dreamcatcher looked over to the Venus Walkers, gauging distance, before she decided she had time to inspect the bush, perhaps for something edible.

  6. Aw, bitch. Takuya gave an irritated screech as the Venus Walker decided to try to intercept him on the way to the bag. He spared a glance towards Siendra, who simply flicked her ears in acknowledgement as she stowed the berries she'd found into the bag. Well now, may as well claim the treasure now while I still have the chance. With that, he swooped over the bush, grasping the edge of the bag with his talons in the hopes of carrying it off without getting hit.

    Siendra watched the bird before turning to look at the remaining Venus Walkers she was to be fighting. "Of course you go for the treasure first, instead of helping me deal with those things." The only response she got was a screech, and she shook her head. Damn it, Kanai, She thought irritably, moving forward slightly. She aimed her spear at one of the Venus Walkers, a pulse of energy coming off of it and shooting for the plant. following this, she tightened her grip on the spear, ready to throw it if her initial attack worked.

  8. Siendra raised her sword arm to try to block the Venus Walker's attack, but it didn't do much good. It wasn't too hard a hit, thankfully, and as she saw Takuya soar back up with the treasure bag, Siendra backed up a bit. "Kanai, I need some backup here!" The only response was a screech, but she knew he'd help. And so after she backed away, the Dreamcatcher once again aimed her pulsing spear at the Venus Walker she'd attacked, hoping to send it to sleep again and dispatch it.

    After Siendra had sent her sleep-spell at the Venus Walker, Takuya glided over the nearby tree and descended on the same target, holding onto the bag with one claw and stretching the other towards the living plant. Here's hoping Roale and I can take care of these things and keep moving... I'd rather kill something with some meat on it. He would have chuckled if his mouth wasn't a beak.

  10. A grin and a screech met the kill. The fierce joy of the predator and the combat thrill of the fighter were both satiated by their accomplishment: swiftly and efficiently taking down the first enemy. The rule of combat in the wild was, in short, kill or be killed, and Takuya knew that even better than Siendra did. His sharp eyes focused as Siendra now pointed her spear at a new target, the Venus Walker before Takuya himself. The spear's pulse had hardly stopped throughout the whole fight, and Siendra was growing tired, but she still had one strike left in her.

    As the pulse of energy shot from the spear to the Venus Walker, Takuya took off quickly, aiming to get some distance between himself and the enemies so that he could get his bearings. A distance away he hovered, russet-brown wings beating the air, focusing his intense, golden gaze on the plants. The enemy. The prey. His vision sharpened.

    He saw everything.

    He saw the movements of insects and the grass ruffled by the breeze. He saw Siendra wearily edge closer to him, using her spear for support as she drew her sword, her vulpine ears drooping ever so slightly before pricking up in alertness. He saw the Venus Walkers. He saw their weak points.

    Silently, Takuya prepared to strike.

  12. Siendra gave a hiss of annoyance as the plant resisted her initial attack. Throwing the spear would be useless now. Worse, she was trapped, and tired. She would need to break away from the battle in order to best regain energy, but the Venus Walker would simply pursue, and Siendra was already injured... She looked almost pleadingly at the hawk that was Takuya, and he saw. Giving a sharp nod, the Shapeshifter began to glide over.

    Siendra returned her gaze to the Venus Walker. Pointing her blade, she glared at the plant. "Guess I'll just have to cut you down, then." With that, she swiped her sword across it and moved away just as Takuya came down upon it, slashing with raptor talons before going at it with his wickedly curved beak.

  14. What a turn of events.

    Takuya's and Siendra's combined efforts had almost completely taken down the Venus Walker that had evaded sleep, and it was up to one of them to finish it. Siendra was tired, but able enough to move and jab the spear; Takuya was having minor trouble staying in the air by the time he dealt his last blow on the plant. Either of them could finish it, but either would have to be closer.

    But Takuya had to get the treasure.

    It was a silly thing, in the heat of battle, to simply chase after a bag of whatever may be inside. But if Takuya could keep the third Venus Walker away from Siendra for just long enough, it would easily work. Kill off the weakened plant. Capture the treasure. Work together to perform the last of the weed control. Siendra and Takuya exchanged nods, and as Siendra edged towards the injured Venus Walker, Takuya soared for the treasure. Simultaneously, one thought ran through their heads.

    This had better work.

  16. Takuya was beginning to feel the pain of the Venus Walker's attacks. That last one had nearly knocked him out of the air, and it took him a good deal of composure to keep on his path. He acutely saw Siendra gulp down an Ether and move closer, at the ready, and had to make a very quick decision. Attack and fly away. Fly and grab the treasure. Damn, pest control should not be this hard, He thought, and would have sighed if he could.

    And then Siendra was signalling to him with her sword. Speaking up, she called out, "I'll catch up over there soon, Kanai, do what you can to weaken it first!" The hawk nodded before diving at the plant and tearing it with his talons, and then flying towards the treasure bag. His vision, though its enhanced acuity was fading, helped him to mark a space beyond the trees and bushes where he might take refuge.

    If the native flora didn't kill him first.

  18. Siendra blinked at the surprising ferocity of Takuya's attack- it seemed to do a fair bit more damage than intended, but the Shapeshifter ignored it. His only concern was, frankly, getting the hell out of reach so he could rest up for a moment. The talons grabbed the rim of the bag, the weight of which didn't even slow him down as Takuya retreated to just beyond the trees in an effort to recuperate.

    Siendra raised an eyebrow, but remained where she was, slowly regaining her own energy. The spear pulsed slowly, but it seemed a passive effect, not draining on Siendra's energy as she concentrated on her own body mana. She looked off to Takuya and the last Venus Walker; somehow she hoped it would come for her. At least, come to her, so that she could spend the time rejuvinating herself...

  20. Takuya jerked his intense raptor gaze towards the Venus Walker, amber eyes narrowing as he realized the plant would be able to get through the gap between tree and bush. Well. So much for resting. Tiredly he took flight again, heading for a bush, having seen Siendra pick out a few from another bush earlier. Maybe there was something edible in the bush. Or at least useful.

    Siendra moved forward as well, towards another bush, and closer to the Venus Walker. Feeling confident enough to defend herself should she be attacked, she took after Takuya's example, searching through the leaves of the shrub in search of more berries. "Of all the times to be looking through bushes, we do it in the heat of battle," She commented dryly. Takuya was too tired to respond.
