Moon Moon's Eternal Scribbling of the Damned

  1. [REDACTED irrelevant 12 year old shit]

    Mildly recent- (We'll dub it "Die")
    Die

    Mildy recent- (I like to call it "Duet", first came the girls then I just kinda added the brothers to make twins...)
    Duet

    Also mildly recent...- ("Kyandi-Dan", lit. Candy Organization or- if'n yer in a fancy-schmancy mood- Candy Orchestra)
    Kyandi-Dan

    A little old now (next step after m. recent)- ("Princess Slaughter", accompanied by a crappy story idea i planned on continuing but dropped.)
    Princess Slaughter

    Almost a year old- (for a crappy story idea called "Cross Genetics", later shortened to just "Cross Gene")

  2. RE: BANZAI! Super-Bass' Kawaii Ultra Pixel Shiz Attack! Goooo!

    H'okay. So, I've been thinking of what I should say in this thread, since I'm not exactly the most seasoned of pixel artists! But I'll do my best to give you some honest, and hopefully fair, feedback since you posted that you were searching for some in the Critique thread! Pretty radular, if you ask me.

    First of all, it's great that you've posted these blown-up versions of your pixels, since it allows us to look at them in closer detail! But on the other side of that same coin, we don't get to see the pixels at their 'native' resolution. When you're making pixel art, I recommend that you post the larger, zoomed in versions as well as smaller versions of the pixel art at 100%. That way, people who are looking at them are able to see what they are 'supposed to' look like, as well as zooming in so they don't have to squint too hard to see the details, and can also point out where you can improve. Just a bit of a tip for you for the future~

    I'm going to start off my examination(s) with Princess Slaughter. I personally voted for this one on the poll; it's a neat little piece, and I'm kind of a sucker for scythe-like weapons, as well. From a pixel art standpoint, I am left with a bit of a lack of readability, here. I'm not entirely sure of what the mess of purple-black is behind the titular character of the piece. Is it a cape? Is it a blob of magical darkness that she commands? All zoomed in, I can see that there are greenish speckles all over it, but I don't think those would be very apparent at a 1:1 resolution. Which brings me to a big point; contrast. A lot of your sprites are a little bit lacking in the way of contrasting values that make them POP. Since you're working on smaller pieces, the differences between the shades should be quite apparent, and every colour should matter. On top of that, it is also important for me to make a note on using black for outlines: DO IT SPARINGLY! A very important lesson on using the colour black as an outline-r is that it "eats up" the colour around it. What this means is that it creates a nice dark patch, but when you're looking at it, it seems to almost consume the other colours around it, which is not always a good thing. So while you have everything outlined in black on this piece, it doesn't help your actual colours inside of the lines. Investing in the practice of Selective Outlining (SelOut) will help you big time in the future.
    As for the pose, in my opinion it stands to be a little static (especially if my hunch on her controlling a twisted mass of darkness is correct). She's just... kind of... standing there. That's all. It would be a lot more dynamic if, say, she was holding the scythe in both her hands, legs spread apart (no, not that way you sick motherf-), knees bent, and staring menacingly at something. The cape-thing is swooshy, but visually, the thing in the foreground should probably be more exciting to look at, if you catch my drift.

    For further reading, I found a great resource on picking a palette HERE if you have the time to give 'er a read. Hopefully it will convey to you how to find more 'meaningful,' or at least stronger, colour values.

    I was hoping to get into a more in-depth critique of all of your sprites, but I have to stop here for now. I've been getting distracted! Hopefully this much helps you out so far.

    OK- So here's a comparison of the original Mega Sableye sprite over VS the current final version AKA my avatar.

    TO IMGUR!

    Also, is it just me, or does Sableye just seem like the kind of Pokemon who likes to bite- like a vampire Pokemon where it just kind of bites and drinks some blood...

  4. RE: BANZAI! Super-Bass' Kawaii Ultra Pixel Shiz Attack! Goooo!

    So- I also did a regular Sableye b/c I have no life besides Zej and amateur pixeling.

    Said Sableye is conveniently linked here.

    Quagsire's tail= the arms
    Pichu= eyes
    Growlithe= skin colors
    Snorlax= literally just the outline color for the head
    Eevee= the collar or whatever

  9. RE: BANZAI! Super-Bass' Kawaii Ultra Creative Shiz Attack! Goooo!

    So I scanned and pixeled over a character I made last year! I was going to eventually make a story but I couldn't think of a plot. Might start writing something if I can get an idea.

    Anyways, here's the order-
    1. The original pencil drawing with notes
    2. Traced and colored Photoshop version, done with brother's drawing tablet
    3. Sprite over of the drawing

    That would depend on what I'm supposed to be ready for.

    Weapon
    So in "Reclamation", Riley uses a falcata after she decides to leave Sydney due to EMOTIOOOONSSS and decides to risk it and try to team up with the adults somehow. With that out of the way, before giving Riley a falcata, I pondered giving her some type of hooked blade- but with a longer handle.

    What a falcata looks like, btw.

    I drew them using the color associated with them- Green for Eeb b/c flowers (I use the Mod-Red more for Rose because then it doubles as the color of a rose) and then white for Krista b/c username. Eeb's hair is yellow since *Fabulous Blonde* and Krista's hair color I just picked from the most recent photo of her that Eebit posted.

    I've been listening to a lot of Halsey lately. Gotta say, Empty Gold is a really awesome song. Also apparently great for bad-drawing concepts... So here I am, posting the results of said concepts.

  18. RE: BANZAI! Super-Bass' Kawaii Ultra Creative Shiz Attack! Goooo!

    I read a tutorial earlier today on how to add age to FE sprites. And then I basically practiced using some sprites from Sacred Stones.
    [IMG]
    I also added some "personal touches"- Giving Cormag a second scar (on his nose) and making Innes and Ross' hair longer. Gotta' say, my sons (Cormag and Glen, the two blonde brothers) age pretty well.

  19. RE: BANZAI! Super-Bass' Kawaii Ultra Creative Shiz Attack! Goooo!

    So I wanted to practice my FE MUG splicing/editing skills and ended up deciding to try and make Steven Universe characters.

    Also now that I'm using Pixen instead of MS Paint, I can make transparent PNGs. I'm really happy about it! (Try dragging them around, then be amazed at this innovation)
