Lackluster: God From the Machine

Discussion in 'Interest Checks' started by Gold Dullahan, Aug 20, 2014.

  1. Lackluster.
One word that could sum up my opinion of humans. If I had a penny for every time humanity failed me, I'd be rich. Well, I am rich, but that's besides the point, isn't it?

They waged the wars that destroyed my childhood home. They were swallowed by their greed and forced me to work- a young laborer for the oil refinery my land had become.

And when I 'failed' them, when I refused to work for those who had hurt my family- their anger drove them to whip me.

And in due time, that anger lead to delusion- It was not they who were wrong. It was I. Young boy who refused to work. It was not their fault that they had to clear the lands for a refinery- but I was making the deaths of a kingdom pointless by not working.

It was their weakness to temptation that failed me. To destroy a kingdom for oil. A greed unmatched by any other species.

And this delusion, this idea that they were justified-

lead to what consumes all men in the end.

    Madness.

And so my arm was cut- removed with a shard of glass and fed to the hounds.

    And that was it.

Humanity would fail me no more.

I ran and I found refuge in machines. They would never fail. They would do as told and never be led astray. No greed or madness to lead them to ruin. I built myself an arm and then an army.

And I brought ruin upon those who failed me.

The refinery in pieces I continued to the kingdom that built it. There own oil- no, my oil. The oil of my lands. It was lit and thrown into their walls. And anyone or any structure still standing was torn apart by my machines.

My next action was to travel to the next kingdom. I went in alone and, disguised as a beggar, killed the king during his birthday parade- assuming control immediately as my machines apprehended the guards and army.

Yet I shut down my machines.

Some part of me held the idea that I could lead them in the right direction- improve them.

    Yet again they failed me.

They were an obedient bunch- but crimes and sin were commonplace still.

And tore apart my machines for parts and captured a a pair citizen in the dead of night.

And on that night-they were improved.

I first gave them an arm, a downgrade of my own, and made them my personal guards.

In due time, I perfected them more.

And now I feel that my whole kingdom could do to follow in there footsteps.

You knew I'd post one of these again before the start of the next month.

  2. Colour me intrigued. It has the workings of something neat. Is this going to be steampunk or something more modern/futuristic? Where would we come in as players?

  3. Futuristic, but robots are just starting so this guy's progress is crazy. The guy, Cyan, is building supporters. Some people may volunteer to become machines and other oppose him. He frequently does kidnappings for subjects, raids to test his machines, etc.
    So, on that note:
-a supporter of his cause, maybe an officer whose become a machine
-a member of the opposing team

BASICALLY- there will be fighting, so you'd be some sort of troop or the like. New or already enlisted.

  4. I'm interested in this.

  5. Thread up! Let the games begin!

    @Eebit @blackoutEquinox

  6. I might be interested. Is there a signup thread or what?

  7. Nope- the cool kids don't do that. Just post in the RP thread in Freeform Roleplays.

  8. Forgot to mention-
Include whether you are Anti or Pro the Machine Transition (AKA being turned into robots)
Why you are in that faction
And how much, if any, of you is robotic and/or mutilated or whatevers. (Like Hraesvelgr's mouth)

    @Eebit @blackoutEquinox @Kamantha

  9. I'm making a long post right now that should be up before I go to breakfast. It's long because character backstory, I hope you don't mind.

  10. Posted. You said it was futuristic so I think I got the tech right, but if I got something wrong, or added something that doesn't work with your planned plot, let me know.

  11. Now part of my Bump/Revival campaign

  12. I mean, I know I flaked out on the original run through of this, but I'd be so here for a revival.
