Blood Sonata

  1. It was a dark, rainy sort of day. The kind that most people would want to stay inside and drink hot chocolate while reading. However, for seventeen-year-old Alex Quinn, it was the sort of day to meeting up with friends at the lake to investigate a series of odd teenage disappearances. It was 11:37 AM on a Saturday in November, a week before the break, in the city of Arkham, Washington. The lake in question was a small, unnamed one about a mile outside of town. It was a popular spot for people to go hang out at or enjoy picnics during the summer and spring. Nobody was ever there during the autumn or winter, except for Alex. He wasn't much of a warm weather person.

Currently, a light drizzle was falling, just enough to make it difficult for Alex to read the screen of his cell phone. He was trying to check if he'd received any texts from his friends that said they were either going to be late, or not showing up entirely. The latter would be his luck, and he'd have to trek back into town. Sure, he'd walked to the lake in the first place, but that didn't necessarily mean he wanted to walk back immediately. He sighed and shoved the device back into his pocket. He'd just have to wait a little longer.

Perhaps the weather would even clear up a little before Alex and his group of friends decided to explore the lake. With the local climate, however, that seemed to be a far fetched hope. In the end, though, it was just a matter of waiting to see what happened--something Alex was very good at. He was a timid person, very quiet and observing. He preferred to watch from a distance rather than act directly, though he was very analytical and strategic.

He was moderately tall and pale-skinned, with shoulder-length slightly wavy hair and bright green eyes. He was very skinny, almost unhealthy looking. He generally wore long sleeves to cover his bony arms. Right now, he wore a green shirt with the sleeves rolled up to just past his elbows. Over that, he was wearing a simple white and blue hoodie. Dark jeans and grey sneakers completed his attire. He pulled the hood lower over his face as he waited, hoping that his friends would show up any second.

  2. "Jeez, I hate this kind of weather, Alex. The cold seeps into the bone with the chill out here," a small girl called out as she walked up to Alex.
Raven was rather short for her age, standing at about 5'2 at the age of seventeen. She was often called mouse for her tiny form and quietness (that is until you got to know her, then she wouldn't shut up). She was slim, with a slight muscle build, but was also very voluptuous, and had long, white-blonde hair that cascaded over delicate shoulders with soft, ash-grey eyes that twinkled whenever she graced someone with a smile from her full and pink pouty lips. Her attire wasn't anything too special. She wore a grey v-neck tee with a black pea-coat, a creme colored scarf, and a pair of dark blue skinny jeans with a pair of weathered black converse hightops.
Raven tucked her tiny hands into her coat pockets as she approached Alex, shivering from the cold. Her teeth were borderline chattering. "Why do the disappearances always happen at one of the worst time of the +[hr]year? I can barely feel my poor toes!" she whined as she bounced slightly in place to keep warm. The cold never agreed with Raven. Her body couldn't handle it very well.

  3. "You really couldn't have picked a better day, huh?" a feminine but deep voice piped up from behind Raven. She towered over the shorter girl and even had a few inches over Alex. Her short, messy brown hair was tucked neatly under a bright green beanie, which went well with her black and neon orange hoodie and bright red jeans. She was unusually bright compared to the dark, dreary scenery. Her eyes were the oddest part about her; the irises were completely white, but anyone who knew her well would know that they were just contacts. She had even weirder ones at home, like crescent moons and stars.

Grinning ear to ear, she waved to the two that had already gathered. "Aiiiyyoooo! The one and only Chase Garrison is here!" She laughed heartily and looked between Raven and Alex. "And about time, too. The two herbivores needed a carnivore to make the party a bit more lively~!"

  4. Helena walked in the cold drizzle, heels clicking on the hard pavement beneath her. She was wearing a small yellow dress with white tights and white suede pumps. She debated on wearing a jacket into the froth, but she decided against it, knowing that it may hinder her. She stood at around 68 inches, which was taller than most, and her heels pushed her yup to look like a giant. She thought about her choice of dress and ran it through her mind if she had worn flats. She shook her head? What was she doing?! She needed to be focused on the mission at hand: the investigation. Alex had texted her a while earlier, so she had gotten ready as quickly as she could. It didn't really help, though, as the gang was already assembled. She attempted to trot to them, but she almost twisted her ankle in doing so. Fucking heels. She liked them and hated them at the same time. She looked around at each person, wondering what was to come. "Hey guys. Sorry I'm late... again." She shivered and blushed in the light drizzle as the morning passed by her.

  5. Alex, who had been sitting on the edge of the dock, fell backwards so that he was staring up at Raven. Unlike the petite girl, he wasn't cold in the least--even if he took off his jacket he would be completely fine. The main reason he wore it was so he could hide from the outside world. That, and even though the cold didn't bother him, he didn't particularly care to get wet. Though, the rain wasn't severe at all. It could hardly even be called rain. He slowly got to his feet, dusting himself off as he waved nonchalantly at Raven.

"I know, it's so inconsiderate of them to go missing during the colder part of the year," Alex replied sarcastically. He walked up to and ruffled her hair, laughing slightly at her constant bouncing. Another familiar voice sounded, and Alex smiled at Chase as she approached, showing off his abnormally long upper and lower canines. "Hey, pal," he said, his voice as quiet as always. "Well, there's only a few more people that are coming, I think. I guess we'll wait around for a few minutes and see who shows up," the teen added.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, Helena came jogging down the dock, managing to twist her ankle in the process. Alex chuckled slightly and walked over to her, looking at her with an arched eyebrow. So two girls were shivering. Alex debated on which of the two he was going to give his jacket to, deciding on Helena. Alex slid his jacket off and draped it over her shoulders, smiling lightly at her. "You should have brought a jacket," he remarked. "You should remember to bring a jacket next time." His comment wasn't mean. Rather, his tone of voice was soft, yet it still held a slight edge. Like a stone with pillows stacked on top of it.

"Well, I think the only person we're waiting on now is Sophie. And maybe Nathan, but I'm not sure about either. Do you guys want to wait a few more minutes, or...?" His question tailed off as his phone buzzed. "Oh, nevermind. Nathan is going to try and grab a ride with Sophie. Let's all take a moment to wish him good luck." He chuckled once more. Sophie was kind of a brat.

((OoC note: this post may be subject to change if my assumption is incorrect and Brit isn't reusing Sophie))

  6. Raven wrinkled her nose at Alex once he ruffled her hair, leaving it frizzed up at the top. She gave him a playful glare as she smoothed her hands over her hair to get the frizzies out of it. "Not so much that the people that are kidnapped are inconsiderate, more of the kidnapper is the one that is inconsiderate. Or kidnappers... I'm not sure if it's plural or not... If there even is a kidnapper... kidnappers... Anyway," she waved her hand to dismiss her nonsensical babble. "I'm more concerned for the kids that are missing. If they are out in this weather, it certainly cannot be good for them. Lord knows what kind of condition they're in..." She shuddered at the thought of what might have become of the kids that had disappeared. It was not something she would have preferred to think of, though it did tug at her heart strings, hence why she was currently at the dock.

((I apologize if I go out of turn or whatnot, I wasn't sure if there was a posting order or if we were actually going to wait for the next person to reply....))

  7. Oh how she hated these shoes.

Sophie wanted to kill the whore who decided that high heels were a smart idea in general. Her feet were destroying her, and she was about to yank them off and destroy them herself. But then she'd possibly catch a tapeworm in the woods, and it was something she didn't want at all. And then she would be short, and she refused to be short with the rest of the people she knew, who were tall. Even if it meant aching feet, her pride would always come first.

After several minutes of walking down the trail in the demon black three inch stilettos to match her black pencil skirt and white blouse, a product of her excellent fashion taste, she finally reached the dock with a scowl on her face. She glared at her companions, her sore feet making her cranky. The paper Starbucks cup was steaming with a mocha latte, and her normally perfect blonde hair frizzy from the misty rain despite her black and pink umbrella. "I'm not happy with you, Alex." she snapped at him.

Even her cold glare was beautiful. She was the head cheerleader, homecoming queen, and a part time model. She had dreams of being prom queen, and her beauty, love of fashion, and the fear of her wrath and being viewed as one of the biggest losers in the world by everyone was going to get her there. Few expected this normally saccharine young lady, one who teachers adored, with her blue eyes highlighted by different shades of eyeshadow, always perfectly done and topped with candy pink lip gloss, to be capable of such fury, but it was how she maintained her role as Queen Bee along with her election to president of Student Council.

The only reason she still hung out with them was from when she was in elementary school and they were all friends, popular or not, and for some reason they still talked to her. She never interacted with them at school, only at home or on the weekends, and if it was it was for homework questions.

"No, I didn't get Nathan. He was too far out of the way from the Starbucks." she snapped, taking another sip to emphasize her point.

  8. Alex chuckled. "And the selflessness comes out," he replied to Raven. "Well, I hope we'll find at least someone. Then maybe the police will actually do something about the disappearances. Not to mention we're potentially saving a life." His phone buzzed again, and as he pulled it out to read the message, a familiar voice came from beyond his cell. "Of course you aren't. You're never happy with any of us Sophie," he retorted.

The message he'd received was from Nate; apparently Starbucks was too far away from Nathan for Sophie to be able to pick him up. Sophie confirmed this herself several seconds later, which almost made Alex laugh. "Oh well. He's on his way. Knowing Nate, it won't be long. I just hope you know that you've made us stand here in the rain even longer. Personally, it doesn't bother me but you three seem to find it unpleasant."

    ----------

Somewhere between five and ten minutes later, a tall and slightly tan (for Washington) boy came jogging down the path, to the group of teens. He wasn't all that out of breath, but it was obvious he'd ran all the way from town. "'Sup guys," Nathan called out as he approached. Alex waved at him. "Finally made it," he said sarcastically. Nate chuckled. He was almost the complete opposite of Alex--muscular and confident, with short, dark hair that was neatly trimmed and generally styled back, though with the rain it was somewhat messy, sticking up in random places from the moisture.

"Alright, well we should probably separate into groups," Alex proposed. "Two groups of three. Nate will take two, and I'll take two. We're basically going to look around for anything that looks out of place, and if something comes up, call the other group and meet up." He looked at everyone for a few seconds. "Any questions or concerns?"

  9. Raven had to hold back a groan as she saw Sophie approach, and couldn't help but to scoff at the fact that she was wearing such a dainty outfit. They were searching for missing kids, not going on a modeling trip. She was the bane of her existence. And to think they used to be such good friends until she decided that popularity was more important than people. She sighed once Alex had updated them on Nate's current position. Typical Sophie.

As Nate had finally trotted up to meet them, Raven was leaning against one of the wooden posts that held up the dock, looking out over the gloomy water. She was listening to Alex's instructions about teams, and since she didn't want to risk being stuck with Sophie, she called out, "I'll go with Nate." Her eyes slid from the water to the group of teenagers, and smiled up at Nate, though it didn't reach her eyes. "We could probably get a lot of ground covered, together, anyway."

  10. "Aw. Goddamnit, Rave," Chase said jokingly when the light haired girl said she was going with Nate. Still, she honestly couldn't stand Sophie. Thankfully, she brought her iPod so she can drown her if she needed to. She went to stand by Alex and grinned, resting her hands behind her neck. "Well, this group could use a carnivore guy, you know." Even though she wasn't a guy, she still considered herself one of them, especially since she beat many of her guy friends in strength, except for maybe Nate and a few other jocks. And her strength would be needed if something were to go wrong.

  11. Alex nodded. "Alright, you take the left side, we'll take the right," he said, sounding slightly dejected. Sophie and Chase...This would certainly be interesting. Chase was pretty cool, and despite all of her sarcasm and snide comments, was actually somewhat pleasant to be around, while Sophie was sort of a bitch the majority of the time. The two girls did not get along at all, which would not bode well for Alex if he got stuck in the crossfire. At least he could stand to be around Sophie for extended periods of time.

Nate looked somewhat relieved. He was pissed that Sophie decided Starbucks was more important than their friendship, so putting the two in a pair wasn't a great idea. Plus, he had Raven and Helena were cute and nice. Alex, I owe you one, he thought, giving his friend a wink. The two never seemed to be the type that would ever be friends, but that was completely wrong. Nate was the popular jock who was muscular and charismatic, while Alex was skinny and awkward; yet Alex and Nathan had been friends for years.

Alex used to help Nate with homework in elementary school, and in turn, Nate beat up playground bullies. After a while, it evolved into the two hanging out away from school. Alex still helped Nate with school, and Nate still stood up for Alex, but they were actually friends. Hell, the main reason Alex had any other friends was because Nate introduced them. Alex was far too shy to talk to most people, let alone a girl.

Nate shrugged. "All right, we should be off then. Let's go." With that, he started off towards the left, beckoning for the girls to follow him, while Alex took the right side, walking along the rocky shore with his hands in his pockets. Nate chuckled to himself; the scene looked like some sort of picture an emo kid would take.

  12. Raven sighed in relief, knowing that she wouldn't be stuck with Sophie, and she would actually be with some people she liked. Especially Nate, though he would never know that. She was good at hiding and rarely slipped up on her feelings, though at times she wished that weren't true. She shook her head to chase away the thoughts as Nate called her and Helena to follow. She trotted up to Nate, following in step beside him, her grew eyes kept forward and her expression relatively blank, save for her pouty lips, giving her a childish look. "Do you think we'll find anything, Nate?" she asked quietly, her voice soft.

  13. "Well, let's go!" Chase said cheerfully, leading the group. Once the other group was out of earshot, she slowed her pace a little bit until she was at Alex's side. She looked around cautiously, making sure that no one (especially Sophie) was listening, before speaking to him. "By the way," she said in a low voice. "I brought this." She raised her jacket a little bit to reveal the gun holster attached to her belt, and the semi-automatic pistol in it. "Just in case, you know. I got it from my uncle's shop. Don't worry, I'll be careful with it." She quickly covered it back up with her jacket and began to quicken her pace again.

  14. Helena silently looked at Nate and Raven as she walked behind them. She could tell that there may be sparks flying between them and that she was unneeded. However, the search party was more efficient with three pairs of eyes instead of two, and she preferred the quiet she would have more of to the constant bitching noise of Sophie. Stupid bimbo. All she could think of was herself. She shook her head. What was she thinking? She needed to be focused on finding him. She looked around at the surroundings, the overcastness of the day preventing her from looking too far. She hoped that she would be able to find the boy before it had become too late. Who knows what could happen if he was left all alone out there with no one knowing where he was at? She shivered, both from the thought and the chilliness of the day, staying silent as her heels clicked against the pavement.

  15. Nate shrugged in response to Raven's question. "Dunno. I kind of hope so, but at the same time I kind of don't. I mean, whoever it is kidnaps a lot of kids and gets away with it. It'd be great to see everyone safe, though I can't help but feel a little nervous about it." He flashed a confident smile in her direction. "But hey, if there is some weirdo out here, I'll protect you," he said with a wink. A few more minutes passed with Nate doing nothing but engaging in small talk, before he stopped and looked around. "Doesn't seem like there's anything out of the ordinary here..."

Suddenly, the boy turned to Helena. "Are you alright? You've been silent the whole time. You're not getting sick on us, are ya?" he asked. His tone was serious at first, though Nate just had to be sarcastic by the end of his question. Typical Nate; coming off as a caring guy, but quickly covering up his innate kindness by being sarcastic. At any rate, he only seemed like he didn't care, when in reality he would most likely throw himself on a blade rather than risk letting either of the girls get hurt. It was one of the traits he shared with Alex. However, the other boy would most likely come up with a logical plan to keep himself and his friends out of danger, while Nate would just charge in. Either way, he planned on taking a hit or two for his friends if anything popped up.

  16. Raven nodded in agreement with Nate, letting a soft smile grace her lips as he cheeks turned a soft pink once he winked at her. "I think I can manage by myself if anything happens to creep up on me," she said confidently with a chuckle. With his abrupt turn to Helena, Raven turned to look back at her, her smile falling. She /was/ being rather quiet. "Perhaps she's just a deep thinker," she chimed. "I'm the same way. Dead silent, lost in thought.. It's almost kinda morbid, really." She shuddered slightly, then started to bounce on her knees again to keep herself warm. It surprised her how fast her warmth had dissipated once they had stopped.

  17. Sophie saw from the look on Nate's face that he was pissed at her. Oh well. Most people were anyway. Besides, it was Starbucks. Anyone who'd had a latte there could say it was more important than just about anything. He couldn't be mad at her if he'd had it. Maybe she should have brought some for him. But that would require apologizing, and she never did that. She hated apologizing, and apologizing required stooping to below the level of the person she had snubbed, who was often several rungs down the ladder than her. Everyone was, since she was sitting pretty at the top.

She was shoved in a group with Alex and that dirty cunt Chase. Chase never failed to insult her when they were together, and her normally ladylike tendencies were replaced with numerous obscenities thrown at her, because god she hated her. If she had to choose between Chase and her rival, Monica Van Schenk (ironically pronounced Van Skank, and the name fits), Van Skank would be picked any time despite the high chance of a fight where hair gets pulled. Chase, however, seemed to be getting cozy with Alex, which bugged her. Fucking kiss ass.

Her cell phone began to vibrate, and it was Matthew McCullough, the quarterback of the football team and her boyfriend. They had been fighting a lot lately, especially since she'd been seeing Monica flinging herself at him. Matthew seemed to have been enjoying it. "What, have you called to apologize?...You what?! She gave you a WHAT?! That fucking whore! And you let her do that! No, no. We're done. For real this time, because you can't seem to keep it in your fucking pants. And if you want to go date that skank, you do that. But just know that your reputation as cheating, dirty, fucking liar is just beginning! Your popularity is over just like us!" she screamed into the phone, and angrily, almost tearfully, hung up.

"I suggest you shut your mouth, you fucking cunt! I really don't want to deal with you and your snide and stupid comments about me because you're a fucking bitch!" Sophie shouted up to Chase, and stormed up to dump the remains Starbucks cup on her head before bursting into tears. "Van Skank stole my boyfriend!" she wailed, her tears making her perfectly done makeup run down her face.

  18. Chase began to blast heavy metal in her ears as Sophie answered her call. Oh the stupid high school drama she hated to get involved in. It really seemed to follow that girl around. She was muttering some nonsense about Sophie when something warm was dumped on her head. The coffee caught her off guard and she stumbled backwards, a little bit into the lake, getting her socks wet. Chase quickly pulled off her jacket and her hat, revealing her tank top and the gun holster. "Fucking 'ell!" she growled, checking the state of her jacket. It was smelly and sticky with a really bad stain. She had to resist the urge to pull the gun on Sophie. She growled and looked at her jacket dejectedly. "Why am I getting punished for what that chick did?"

  19. Alex stared at the gun holster. "Thanks for letting me know, I guess," he mumbled, though he didn't feel any safer. Sure, he was carrying a knife, but the difference between a knife and a gun was quite large. One was a small bladed weapon, while the other flung projectiles through the air at high speeds and high force. He mentally shrugged it off, at least it was Chase with the gun, and not somebody like Sophie that would go about waving it around like her social status.

An irritated sigh escaped Alex's lips a few seconds later as Sophie picked up her phone and bickered with her boyfriend for a few minutes. He wasn't really paying much attention until he noticed Chase nearly stumble into the lake. Instantly, Alex stood between the two girls. "Alright, I don't care what your boyfriend did, Sophie, but that's not a reason to take it out on Chase. She didn't even say anything," he said, anger clearly present in his quiet voice. "Furthermore, we all knew McCullough was an asshole before you started dating him. That's your own damn fault," he continued on.

"Now, Chase, let it go," Alex continued on, stepping a little closer to her. "I know she deserves payback, but be a bigger person for once. She'll get what's coming to her." He sighed again, rubbing the bridge of his nose. Only twenty minutes in and he was already getting a Sophie-induced headache. "Anyways, are we done acting like children? We're out here to get away from high school drama, among other things," Alex stated dryly. At least Nate's going to be having a good time...Hell, Helena went with him after I gave her my jacket. Oh well, it is what it is...I should be used to people ignoring my kindness by now.

  20. Sophie was not amused at Alex's comment about her boyfriend. "But I love him! How could he do this to me! I thought he was The One! You know, the one that you're supposed to get married to and have hot sex with and have a million children with!"

She sat down on a fallen tree after daintily putting a Kleenex down on it to cover her designer butt. She took several minutes to use another to wipe the smeared makeup off and reapply everything using the small mirror. “You know what, I’m a firm believer in karma, and I think this situation was attracted into my life because it was supposed to be a huge learning lesson for me to grow and expand as a spiritual human being. I see myself being like an Angelina Jolie but even stronger, pushing even harder for the universe and for peace and for the health of our planet. God didn’t give me these talents and looks to just sit around being a model or being famous. I want to lead a huge charity organization. I want to lead a country, for all I know. And you know what? I don't need him to do that. Angelina doesn't need Brad Pitt, as gorgeous as he is when he doesn't look like a hobo. I can be strong. I can be amazing. I can be fucking gorgeous. And I will crush Van Schenck beneath the heels of my stilettos like that psycho bitch deserves."

The monologue in front of the mirror was laughable to others and originally spoken by a criminal, but not to her. She returned the mirror to her purse, picked up the Kleenex from the tree and offered it to Chase. "I'm sorry." she said sweetly.
