Best Boss Battle

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Eebit, May 1, 2014.

  1. What are some of your all-time favourite boss battles, from any video game? What made them so special to you? Was it the atmosphere, the music, the mechanics of the battle itself? Or does it just hold a special place in your heart for the sake of that rosy nostalgia?

  2. Etrian Odyssey: Untold (Story Mode) spoilers follow:
MIKE. Just MIKE. While this battle was predictable in the stratum before because he literally turns a tank on you, it still had some amazing buildup. The entire area before the boss battle, as well as the battle itself, is a race against the clock. You have 50 turns to reach and defeat him, and depending on what route you take you might face up to like four FOEs along the way. In Expert especially, this battle is incredibly difficult.

Adding to that, since MIKE is Ricky's only friend left from her time- her best friend, even- the scenes immediately before and after Gladsheim Area V are so emotionally charged i cant even

AND OH GOD THE MUSIC. MIKE has a kickass battle theme, fittingly titled Decisive Battle ~ The End of the World (Or simply A Tragic Struggle in NA for who knows what reason). Ruin: Gladshiem ~ Pulse of Time, while just being a slightly altered version of the normal Gladshiem theme, gives one that heart-racing feeling where you know you're going to run out of time.

  3. The Legend of Zelda series has a lot of my favourite bosses. However, from time to time, it's really a hit-and-miss on that front. Watching @Skolli playing through Skyward Sword lately though, I must say that Koloktos is one of the better bosses of the series. Fantastic mechanic to his battle, and an amazing aesthetic to boot. What's better than going up against a reanimated ancient statue which just so happens to have six arms at its disposal, which you end up using against it in order to destroy its core? It's just absolutely a fantastic boss fight that is made even better by the music that accompanies the fight. I guess I also have a soft spot for automata being used in clever ways!

Also up there in terms of aesthetics are Twilit Fossil Stallord in Twilight Princess, and Twilit Ice Mass Blizzeta in the same game. Both of them have fantastic story aspects leading up to them that sets them up perfectly in my opinion. Very well played on Nintendo's part.

I'm in a very Zelda frame of mind, so I'm sure I'll revisit this thread with other cool battles when I remember them, haha.

  4. Probably The Final Hazard from Sonic Adventure 2.

Sure, the boss itself is piss easy, but it's one of those cases where atmosphere wins out. HANGING ON THE EDGE OF TOMORROW.

    <3 Crush 40

  5. I'd say my favorite boss battle is Cursed Leorina from Klonoa 2. The music is plenty enough, but
At that point in the story, it marks where Leorina had subk to her lowest, after giving the heroes such a hard time throughout the game. Especially considering her past, her transformation was as heartbreaking as it was traumatizing. And once you beat her, she suffers some pretty serious wounds, to the point that she can barely move yet in the level that follows, where you have to try to stop Ishra's Ark from reaching the Kingdom of Sorrow, she actually comes to help you at some points.

It's really just a beautiful piece of the story, im

  6. One of my favorite boss battles is Yami from Okami. I really liked the mechanic of having to regain your powers from him throughout the battle, it accentuated the fact that it was the last battle of the game very well. While it wasn't particularly difficult, it was really interesting and I'm very satisfied with it being the end of such a masterpiece as Okami.

The battle with the Nine-Tailed Fox earlier in the game was really interesting as well, and I think I remember it even being more difficult than the fight with Yami. Most of Okami's boss fights are pretty good, actually, almost as a direct result of the sheer innovative things they make you do with Amaterasu's brush.

  7. hmm.... Hades from Kid Icarus Uprising. His personality sarcastic and he'll just keep mocking Pit the whole time. It actually kinda gets on your nerves. Anyways, the man has SIX STAGES to his fight. In the last one, you have to doge his attacks and counter while trying to keep a wobbly target mark on him so that a final shot can defeat him. Having to replay that part multiple times would be annoying, except we just hate Hades that much.

  8. Could you put that in a spoiler, @"bass-and-the-siren8976"? It's somewhat of a spoiler, since if you're playing Uprising for the first time you get to think Chapter 9 is the last battle. I think that's one of the best parts of the game :3
Coding for putting text in a spoiler is
    Code:
[spoiler]All the text you want seekrut[/spoiler]
Spoiled for mention of a part of Kid Icarus: Uprising's plot

  9. I think you've unintentionally added a spoiler yourself, @"CerberusLycan"! Nonetheless, I have spoilered @"bass-and-the-siren8976"'s post. Just because we're all (at least most of us) gamers at heart, and it's nice to not be spoiled! ;D

  10. I planned to delete my post after Bass complied, but looking at the options now I don't spot a delete button. Thank you for doing that, anyway, @Eebit~

  11. To go off-topic, we had to disable the general userbase's ability to delete their own posts/threads as it was being sorely abused by certain members of the community (deleting profiles/roleplay posts which in turn disrupts the way a roleplay reads, communication things, etc). If you need a post deleted, feel free to PM an admin or a mod; this gives the staff more of an opportunity to do their job!

  12. kek, resolved. I'll leave this as a placeholder if/when I find a boss battle that I extremely liked.

  13. Sorry, terrible at using the codes XD
The surprise continuation of the plot was really interesting though. I think one of my favorite general levels is The Ring of Chaos because creativity. Pit becomes a ring, you control a little girl and dog for a bit, you fight as Magnus, it's pretty darn cool.(/shot for being off topic)

  14. Dis guy from Monster Hunter Freedom 2

    The Akantor[IMG]

Looking forward to his return in Monster Hunter 4~
