ARKNET Reborn: Pitchdark ~ Enter the Jungle

Discussion in 'Freeform Roleplays' started by Nebulon Ranger, Apr 30, 2012.

  1. Nathan's eyes widened as a voice seemed to enter his head. Looking about a moment, his eyes re-connected back with the being in front of him, eyes of acknowledgement. So this thing was telepathic. Nathan attempted to smile, however, it seemed slightly forced as the thought of his thoughts being looked through came to mind. It was certainly not a good thing to think about. It then occurred to him that this man known as Jude is reading this thought right now. Feeling a slight headache coming on with the sudden blast of thoughts, he grabbed his head a moment before he shook the furry's hand.

"I'll try as best as possible.. and thank you," he replied to both Jude and than the man known as Jack, suddenly feeling a tinge of alienation within this group. If anything, most of these people may very well have been prepared for this, ready to fight. Nathan felt skilled, but hardly skilled enough to take on what he thought he was sent to take on. And if not immediately, the feeling of alienation in general being within the group was strong. The only human other than he was the girl known as Rose, but even then he didn't feel like he could connect /too/ much. See seemed comfortable within the group, something which was completely opposite to him. Maybe due to him not being in the group for even a full hour? He shook his head, taking a few steps before stopping and looking about slightly. He began to wonder what role he'd take in this team, and especially what role he would take in fighting this war.

  2. Dark looked at Rose, dumbfounded, then blinked. She had believed him. He wasn't lying and she saw that. Though, upon learning of her initial disbelief in the existence of his races, among others, he chuckled a bit. "Well, I suppose you learn something new every day. Though if you'd heard the legends of experiments on animals three or so thousand years ago, we are what came of those. Honestly, I'm surprised we evolved so damn fast." He paused, remembering that this was not the topic. "Though I've gone a bit off-topic, no? If we have a vampire among us, don't do anything hostile -- as far as I've been told by Jack, the robot -- TEN -- has the 'kill one, save a thousand' mentality. He probably won't hesitate to kill you." He looked around a final time, continuing once more, "Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to return the favor when you need it." He began to turn away, then suddenly stopped, almost forgetting to ask something, "Hey, if we were sent to try and kill those things that were destroying the planet, don't you think that some were sent before us? I hope some are still alive if so."

Upon shaking Nathan's hand, Jude responded to his apparent alarm at his telepathic messages. "Do not be alarmed, Nathan. I will not divulge secrets, if that is indeed what you fear. I often communicate telepathically with people I have met." He then looked toward Jack, Dark, Rose, TEN, Erkin, Drudo and X. "We will take a few hours to prepare and then be on our way. I hope, for the sake of all of us, that we survive."

  3. "Hmm, that is entirely true Dark, perhaps some of them may still be alive, perhaps even in the surrounding area. Although if that was true, then we most likely would have seen some sign of them, like perhaps smoke from a fire, or even have caught a glimpse of them ourselves. Now if you excuse me, I think that getting to work on that little device to help you with what ever thirst for blood you may contract, as it could be top priority for you, me, and everyone else's survival." Rose had said as she began to walk off. "Oh yeah, thanks for the warning about T.E.N, Ill be sure not to do anything hostile."

Rose walked over to the fallen tree, looking around for some of the large leaves that had not been used. She picked one up, and tore it in half, the leaf was surprisingly heavy for what it was, and quite a bit thicker then the leaves she was used to as well. Rose Pulled out a little bottle from her pocket, a bit of fast acting glue which she had brought with her. Other then that, and a few chemistry supplies, she did not really have much with her. She folded the leaf into the shape of a bag, one which would probably fit about a pound of blood in it, and put a couple of dabs of glue on it, which sealed it together quite tightly. Although born in the city, she was quite resourceful, and could make almost anything if the items needed were supplied, even if it had to be make shift.

Rose brought the Bag over to Dark, and handed it to him. "Here, when ever you need to get a drink of blood, you will be able to drink from that. Once we find a few animals, we will be able to start filling it up for you. It can hold up to about a pound of blood, from what I estimate but that may not be an exact amount... Anyways, it should work until we can come up with a better way to store it for you..." Rose then patiently waited for a response from Dark, hoping that the bag she made would suffice for a bit of time.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Erkin looked around for a minute, getting quite bored as time went by. There did not really seem like much to do, although what could he really do anyways? Out here, it was either hunt or be hunted, and really he wanted to do something before the day ended.

He walked over to Jude, thinking that perhaps he would know what the next course of action would be, as he and T.E.N seemed to be the leaders of the group. "Hey Jude! When are we going to head off in search of these planet destroyers we were sent here to stop? Its getting quite boring around here, considering the low amount left to do before we leave." Erkin said, hoping not to sound like too much of a jerk for wanting to hurry along.

  4. Dark looked at Rose on her way back with the makeshift pouch. "I- uh, thanks, I guess. I suppose this'll come in handy one way or another." He said, thankful for what could be his saving grace. What he didn't know is that it not only could, but would become not only his lifeline, but Jude's as well. He then sat there mulling over his thoughts. There was one up side to becoming a vampire -- he could continue improving his guitar skills for thousands of years. He looked at Rose again. "Hey, if there are people still alive here, would it be right to save them? I mean, I think so, but I don't know about everyone else." He said, "Some of them could actually help us, you know."

    ~ Three Hours Later ~

Jude surveyed the area around him. The shelter had been packed away personally by him and shoved into Hammerspace for use later, and most everyone had finished preparing for their journey. He looked to TEN, then back at the rest of the group. "Is everyone prepared to depart?" He asked, "We will be leaving momentarily, so be sure you have any means of defense from this... menace... prepared for the trek ahead of us." He took a quick glance in Dark's direction, a smirk barely visible on his face, before turning back to the others again. "When I am notified by everyone of preparedness, then we will depart." Jack had prepared his shurikens and katana, which was stored in its saya on his back, while Dark had asked Jude personally an hour prior to store his guitar in Hammerspace as he would not have had the spare hands to hold it himself. This left only X, Drudo, Nathan, Rose and Erkin, as Jude knew that TEN was always prepared for battle -- his weapon was attached to his arm.

  5. Rose was a bit surprised by the question. She thinks Why wouldn't we help them out? If anything, it would simply mean a larger chance of our survival... As Rose thought this though, Dark had already left, and that only left her a small amount of time to prepare, she was not exactly equipped for battle, but she hopped into action anyway.

Rose looked into her small bag of things she had brought with her. From what she could tell, the best she could hope to do is to help out the team through support. In her bag, she saw a few strips of felt, which she usually used to test acidity of chemicals, but would probably make much better use as bandages. She also had 10 vials, 5 of which were full of chemicals she brought from home, and two others with samples she had collected while she was here. The only other supplies in her pack where a pair of gloves for protection from chemicals, a Scalpel, and a couple of glass flasks meant for throwing, which of course would be used for combat purposes. Working with what chemicals she had, she made a flask of blinding liquid, and a flask full of acid. The only thing left now was to find a weapon.

Rose was not exactly all that good with weapons, and was not exactly the strong, well built type. Either way though, she needed something a bit better then her bare hands to fight with, if the need came. She picked up a medium-sized stick, and sharpened the end with her scalpel until it was sharp enough to pierce skin, and then waited for everyone else to prepare.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------7

Erkin was glad, he did not have too much preparing to do, as he already had a couple of weapons, as well as a few unique powers. Erkin pulled out his short sword and looked into the engravings on the side. His old name was carved into the hilt, his name before he had become what he is today, but he felt he should throw that life behind, and turn over a new leaf. He was still quite a bit of a sadistic person at that though, although he now used his powers for good, as he knew that a second chance was not something that was given to everybody in there life time. Erkin used a piece of leaf to polish his blade again, as if he was desperately trying to get something off. Perhaps it was simply his thoughts, and he was trying to wipe away blood which was no longer there. Erkin slid the Short sword into its place, and made sure that the dagger was within short reach as well, and with that he was ready to go. "Lets get this show on the road!" Erkin said, not having too much patience to get out of this area.

  6. T.E.N. Had mixed thoughts about moving out, but then again, all of his thoughts were mixed nowadays. Though he would much rather sit down and discuss better plans and safer routes, his decision was not about to outrule the majority. He knew also that it would be a waste of time... at least in his opinion. He checked his charge level 98%. Lucky for him that he ran off Naos, or travel would be quite the hassle. He made an audible grunt as he opened up his arm cannon and began to poke and inspect its inner workings. When he was satified with what he saw he closed it up and moved towards Jude. "I hope this re-location fares us well, nothing worse than to be killed by ambushes, and not to mention ones own paranoia, then again I suppose I'd be mad if I didn't have doubt for my own comrades no?" He posed the question to Jude, eagerly awaiting an answer, as he watched the rest of the party get ready for the journey ahead. He was obviously still worried about the issues to be encountered on a foreign planet.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drudo was happy Erkin wanted to leave. All this time he'd felt as if he was the only one wanting to see some action, although it was clear that not many other people were as prepared as they should have been. He watched as Rose looked for a weapon, and chuckled as he watched her sharpen a spear for protection. He knew it wouldn't serve for long, and besides if there was one thing he knew it was how to fight aliens. He made an attempt to keep his cool as he walked over to her. He attempted to speak but his first attempt was caught in his throat, resulting in a high pitched squeal. He cleared his throat. "Ahem... Hi, I couldn't help but notice you looking for a weapon, I'd hate to see such an intelligent woman such as yourself get killed so early, so um... here." He averted his eyes quickly to avoid any more embarassment, and looked to his gun. He split it in half, and pressed a small green button, turning the half-rifle into a long combat knife. He handed it to Rose, hoping it would serve her in some way, or at least make a good impression.

  7. "Wow, thanks Drudo, I may very well have been killed without this, as this is perfect for combat, albeit still only good if someone tries to directly attack me... Still, thank you." Rose said, obviously quite grateful to have something a bit more suited for combat then a sharpened stick. Rose then noticed that he had never really properly introduced himself other then awkwardly saying his name, and not having said a thing ever since. "Anyway, I don't think you had actually properly introduced yourself, unless I missed it of course. Either way its nice to meet you." Rose said, as she inspected his jaw, without actually touching or really eyeballing it really, just taking a quick estimate for the purpose of figuring out who here was indeed the vampire... "Well, if there is anything you need, I would happily help you out." Rose said, while patiently waiting for what she assumed was a lycan to reply.

  8. "One would do well to place at least a dram of distrust in their allies." Jude said to TEN, "However, on a mission such as this, if we do not trust each other and spark conflicts based around such distrust, not only those in conflict would perish, but all of us as well. It is important we trust each other enough as to not create an anathema to the group." Looking around at the group, he faintly noticed Rose seemingly inspecting Drudo's jaw. He stifled a cackle as he thought to himself, Foolish human. She is looking in all of the incorrect places. Remembering that he was not to bite anyone else, he quickly did away with that train of thought, instead looking in the direction of Nathan and X once more. Hmm... I suspect Nathan is at the very least close to having his defenses prepared, but what of X? He thought pondering a strategy for a second before looking back to TEN. "Leaving ourselves prone to ambushes would be the kiss of death for all involved. We should further prepare ourselves as we venture deeper into this jungle."

  9. Upon the hours that had passed upon being warned of preparation for departure, and at the very moment of which they were to head off, Nathan had literally done nothing but stand around. All he had with him was on his person in all honesty to himself, and he doubted he could really find anything of use around the area. However, he did have the mind to find some food and stock up, stuffing a few snacks into his pockets. With a glance at everyone else, he approached the telepathic being known as Jude.

"Well uhm..." he started, looking around as he tried to find the words he wanted to say. "I'm... ready.." was all that came out after a moment as he looked back at Jude and turning away. He was definitely having the strangest time trying to socialize with the odd beings about him. More importantly, it was strange enough that he had nothing really to do about the camp. Of course he'd barely made it to this planet for this team, but all in all, something was off. Was it that he hadn't found his place yet?

  10. "Im ready too..." Rose said, while still thinking about who might be the vampire. She was nearly certain it was not Drudo, although she could not be too careful. Sure maybe living for a couple thousand more years would be cool, getting all that much more time to become even smarter then she is now, but still, she feared even thinking those thoughts. She shook the idea out of her head, and waited for everyone else to finish getting ready.

"I've been ready for quite a bit." Erkin said to the others, trying not to sound rude. "If anything I would really like to move out of here as soon as possible, I hate staying in one place for a long length of time." And that was indeed true. Back when Erkin was still human, and when he had a family, they would almost never see him, as he was always away, travelling to new places for his "work".

  11. "Right. Let us be on our way, then. I do hope for the survival of all concerned within the confines of our group." Jude said, scouting the area for a clear enough sort of path for them to follow. Upon noticing a large enough gap in between the trees, he headed in that direction, motioning the others to follow him. "Stay together. The gods only know what would happen if we were to become seperated." Jude whispered, concerned for the safety of all involved. The brush got thicker and thicker as the group ventured further in, prompting Jack to use his katana in place of a more traditional machete in such a way as to clear the area in which they were walking. "Jesus, I've been in jungles before, but nothing on this level!" He said, shocked at how thick the brush around him seemed to be getting, "It's like the vines have minds of their own!"

Dark hung at the back of the group with Rose and Erkin, hands balled into fists, not saying anything. Well, he couldn't really say much anyway, what with his mouth being in a lot of pain from the fangs growing in. URGH. I never thought becoming a vampire was this painful AFTER the bite! He thought, suppressing a wince of pain. The fact he had his fists balled and his arms rigid in an attempt to divert his attention from the pain in his mouth didn't seem to be doing anything towards its purpose. He could still feel what seemed to him like someone ripping all of his teeth out without anesthetics.

  12. Following the rest of the group Drudo hastily made his way through the thick of the jungle. It wasn't long before the groups ears were rattled by the many curses and complaints that came from him, occasionaly slowing his pace to smack large mosquitoes and fleshflies that seemed to be in abundance to this section of jungle. It was clear that he didn't like it here. Eventually he jogged his way to the front of the group. "Hey, uh... I don't suppose anyone has any bugspray -- Ouch!" he swatted another bug off his ear. It was clear Drudo was already fed up with this outing. Not wanting anymore insects to satiate themselves on him, he pressed a small green button on his wrist enclosing his head into a armored helm.

T.E.N. Stayed quiet the whole trip, keeping his cannon ready, with his free hand resting on it. Ironically even muted as it was even T.E.N.'s sounds of clicking and humming managed to make it over Drudo's excessive swearing. Occationaly T.E.N. would give a cold stare -- or what was percieved as cold, seeing as his face was incapable of expressions -- to Drudo. "I don't like this, it's been quiet for far too long." T.E.N. said irritatedly. "By all assumption we should be dead by now, or at least surrounded by impossible odds." T.E.N. chuckled at the thought Impossible...

  13. Nathan trudged along with the rest of the group, his amber gaze looking about in wonder and in slight irritation at the claustrophobia of the surrounding jungle and undergrowth seemed to choke him slightly. The very atmosphere itself didn't seem to help either, sustaining a vast amount of humidity that felt as if he were breathing water. He took in a breath to emphasize the effort of doing so, meeting with a slight cough before composing himself again. The group seemed to be having problems in and of itself, making him sigh. "This is awesome..." he said aloud in a sarcastic and joking tone, hopefully to get some to at least chuckle to approve of his humor. I really hope I can fit in with this group, he thought with a mental sigh, only remembering the times he wasn't accepted back on Earth.

Looking ahead seeing Jack suffer through tearing a pathway for the group, Nathan felt the impulse to help out. Why not? He'd be able to at least do something... Nathan immediately caught up to the lycan, grabbing the fur-covered shoulder of the furry. "Hey," he started, smiling slightly. "Maybe... I can blow our way through at least a little?" Nathan emphasized his implication by outstretching his arm in a random direction, a sudden invisible pulse ripping and tearing vegetation in the direction of his outstretched hand, leaving a small but traversable pathway.

  14. "I--" Jack started, "... Okay, that works! It was getting annoying trying to cut through all of this on my own." He motioned Nathan to move ahead of him, now knowing that he'd definitely come in handy to clear out the ridiculously overgrown vegetation before them. Jude gave a brief glance in their direction as they both -- but nobody else -- heard him speak telepathically to them, I would take caution when using that. One can never be sure when or where they will appear. Jack returned the glance, albeit with a hint of irritation visible in it, and simply replied, "I'm well aware of our situation. I don't need to be reminded of it every time we make a breakthrough, thanks." He proceeded to look back at Nathan, katana at the ready once more. Jack was prepared to cut down any straggling vegetation left in front of them after Nathan had blasted a hole in it.

  15. Jack was prepared to cut down any straggling vegetation left in front of them after Nathan had blasted a hole in it.

At the back of the messed-up line that the group had formed, wincing and grimacing having never left his face, Dark continued the trek through the jungle. The pain seemed to not want to let up for even a fleeting second as he screwed up his expression even further, trying to ignore it, but it simply did not want to be ignored. In fact, it seemed to get worse and worse with every passing second, as if his body were trolling him. Worse and worse until, that is, there was one final sharp stab of pain and then... nothing. The pain just suddenly stopped and subsided instantly as if were never there. He felt four loose hard objects with his tongue. Reacting quickly, he spat them out into his left hand. They were his old incisors. The new fangs had finally grown in completely, or so it had seemed. He sloshed his tongue around a second time., feeling four new, sharper incisors that seemed to have small holes in them. The fangs had indeed grown in. He was a vampire officially now. Quickly stashing the old teeth in his pocket to avoid anyone finding out in case people had bad reactions, he began to think to himself, debating whether or not to tell anybody else. I-I'm a vampire now? What to do? Should I tell the others? I don't even know anymore.

  16. Rose trudged on through in the back, with Erkin and Dark. From the way Erkin was acting earlier, she thought he might have run up ahead and stuck out at the front, but he was at the back. She knew perhaps he had his reasons, but she continued on either way. She noticed that Dark seemed to be in quite a bit of pain as they walked. After a couple more minutes of walking, she noticed him coughing something up. She whispered to him "Hey Dark, are you ok? I notice that you in what seems to be in quite a bit of pain..."

Erkin sort of lagged behind at the back of the group. Although he was more suited for combat, and wanted to get out of that area fairly fast, he was not exactly the type to just zoom on ahead. Sure he moved from area to area fairly often, but he was also the type to be extremely stealthy on his 'missions'. Other then that, he also was not exactly the most sociable type of person, so he liked to keep to himself.

  17. Dark snapped in Rose's direction. "Oh, uh, I'm... fine. Fine. Fine, fine, fine." He said. He was obviously not fine, the tone of his voice would give that much away. He thought for a moment, realising that Rose probably wouldn't buy his attempt at covering it up, "Who am I kidding, I'm not exactly fine. For the record, yes, I was in a lot of pain. Getting two entirely new sets of incisors isn't exactly lollipops and rainbows." He grimaced at the recent memory of the pain involved in growing the fangs. They did grow in quickly, though. He hushed his voice in an effort to make sure nobody else heard. "I'm definitely a vampire now, it feels kinda weird." He said, "Try not to tell anyone else."

Meanwhile, near the front of the group, Nathan and Jack seemed to be making a lot of progress. The brush, instead of thickening around them, seemed to be getting thinner, as if they were approaching another clearing. This would be confirmed to be the case fairly soon, as there were progressively more rays of light breaching the thick covering of the exotic trees and plants dead ahead. Jack was the first to notice this as he jolted up in surprise, "Guys!" He exclaimed, "Clearing, dead ahead!"

As the group reached the new clearing, they would notice it to be a sort of landing site, much like the one they landed in. Except there was a problem: the two pods that had landed there seemed to have been severely damaged as well as ransacked and stripped of all of what would have been in them. Outside one of them was what looked to be a severely charred dead Thenast lying in a pool of congealed blood, and barely outside the other was a dying orange-furred Lycan with both of her legs missing. In a flash of combined worry and speed, Dark rushed over to her, disregarding any warnings that his companions hurled at him. "Oh God. What happened here?!" He asked, shocked and frazzled. "They- they came... killed one of my friends... the other escaped..." She replied with an extremely labored tone, "I'm fading too fast... here, take this. It's a picture of her... if she's still alive... tell her tha-that Alexis sent you to find her... tell there that Alexis... is dead." The Lycan replied, handing Dark a photo of a black Lycan with two blue stripes extending down her back. The picture had the name Tate scrawled hastily on the bottom of it. Then the Lycan finally collapsed to the ground, dead. Dark stood there for a moment, his face glued to the picture of Tate. Of Tate. This could only mean one thing -- if she was still alive, the Relekath had her. They had his sweetheart. He slowly lowered the picture from his gaze, a sort of angry, determined expression now visible on his face, "Don't worry, Alexis. I'll find her, even if it means sacrificing myself."

  18. Rose quickly averted her eyes. She was not exactly that fond of Seeing people in pain, or dying for that matter. She also hated the sight of blood, however it was slightly easier to deal with then the sight of someone in pain. She still went ahead, although she did not really say anything, silencing up quite quickly.

  19. Nathan smiled as he had immediately found a way to help the group. Jack was obviously impressed and thankful as he positioned, then let out more and more large, intangible waves of destructive force to rip and tear the massive amounts of shrubbery that was in their path. It was almost pleasing to provide the pathway for the group; however, he could feel the strain on him. He'd never really done consecutive blasts before, and the thick atmosphere easily had him begin to show signs of sweating. It definitely didn't feel all that drafty with the plating under his clothing, only making his efforts more labored. The little beads dropped from his forehead as the group continued on, only relieved from the effort as the vegetation seemed to recede. Feeling it easier and easier to strike away the undergrowth, he traversed faster as did the group behind him, letting out a sigh of relief as they finally entered the new clearing.

Only for him to gasp at the immediate scene.

Terrorized pods. Blood. The easy traces of a large fight. And the most obvious remnant of the battle, a carcass. No, it was still alive! Nathan's eyes narrowed toward the ripped apart orange figure of another furred Lycan. The stench of death emanated off its form as it wriggled in agony, in its own pool of crimson pain. It was imminent what was to happen to this woman. Nathan stared a long moment before tearing his gaze, looking down respectively. It only served to remind him where he was, where they were. And this was not a playground. This was a battlefield. Immediately Nathan's form felt the weight of his under armor and his blade even heavier now, making him close his eyes a moment. He was a soldier now, and everyone here the same.

  20. T.E.N. Didn't say a word as they walked through the thick of the jungle, nor did he express his worry about the constant noise they were making -- mostly Dark and Drudo's whining. He carefully observed his surroundings, making sure his cannon had little time to cool. He made notice of Darks conversation, though he didn't know the exact words, he could guess what it was about from what had happened the previous night. He didn't like the Idea of having another vampire, but if he and Rose didn't get something to satiate the two of them... well, he though he was a good enough dentist to make a few "removals," or perhaps and execution...

Drudo -- as he were for the rest of the trip was preoccupied with making sure no bugs were trying to make a meal of him. His gun was in his hand sure, loaded yes, but not readied. It was clear that he was easily distracted, and perhaps even a bit unsure of how real the threat really was. In the midst of his swatting and complaining he managed a few looks in everyone's direction, though he didn't have much time to assess before noticing a large mosquitoe-esque creature had made its way into his helmet -- or rather his helmet had sealed it in with his head. "JESUS F--" he exlaimed as he tripped over his own feet. He shooed the bug out and dusted himself off as he regained his composure. "Sorry..." he said in a whispery voice.

Neither T.E.N. or Drudo really said anything for the remainder of the walk it was only untile they both heard "Clearing, dead ahead!" from Jack did they Come to attention. T.E.N. entered the clearing the same time Jude did, immediately he noticed the two bodies, one still barely clinging to life. He listened in on Dark's conversation with her, giving an audible grunt of satisfaction that the threat had become clear to the members of the group. "You know, going in to a place full of Relekath would easily lead to our deaths, though really that's what we were sent here to do anyway -- die."
"What the fuck man?!" Drudo said to T.E.N. in a mixture of anger and confusion. "Were not going to die, are we?!" T.E.N. made an audible chuckle before holding up a hand to Drudo, interrupting whatever he was going to say next.
"Drudo my boy... I think there are some things your 'commander' neglected to tell you." he looked around to the rest of the group, sensing some confusion, he continued: "Our primary goal here is to die... The earth was being ravaged by the Relakath. They were hunting the greatest game the universe has to offer -- us. If you havent guessed by now, Earth doesn't want us. They've thrown us to the wind, let the Relekath have us so that they can survive and prosper... were the last of our kind. Once were dead the Relekath will move to a new galaxy in search of game, thusly saving the Earth forever... Not much of a happy ending if you ask me, but an ending nonetheless, a fairly neccisary one, wouldn't you say Jude?" T.E.N. Turned to face Jude, and waiting for his speech to sink in to the group.
