Album Challenge

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Eebit, Mar 2, 2014.

  1. This has been going around on Facebook over on my end recently. Thought it'd be a fun little thing to bring to ZEJ.

"In your status update post, list 12 albums that have stayed with you over the years in some way. Don't take too long on this list - just a few minutes. These don't have to be great records, or critical darlings, just ones that mean something to you personally."

The goal is to post just a few musical albums that mean a lot to you, and then you pass it on and nominate a few friends. For ZEJ, I just think it would be kind of cool to show off the diverse musical tastes of our members! Maybe we'll even find a few new records to listen to as a result.

    Post away~

  2. If everything I listen to wasn't before the 20th century (with the exception of John Rutter perhaps), then perhaps I'd have more of a listing to put here.

The one "album" I've listened to that stayed with me is Celtic Woman's "A Christmas Celebration" album (which led me to the rest of their music, shame their agent(s) revoked the mobile rights to their music. Sigh.), which has stayed with me since, oh, I guess about 2007. Best Christmas music in my opinion.

  3. Interesting choices, @"Jonno", and very different ones from your post on Facebook. Care to explain the disparity in the two lists?

  4. Since I don't like entire albums and tend to like sole songs, I'll just do it with those. I mean, it makes sense. I can't be expected to agree with entire ideologies that people spout—they usually come with bells and whistles both unwanted and unwarranted. I do more often tend to base my beliefs on one or two stray ideas come up with by other people, and agree wholesale with ideologies much less so than most, despite my general stances and demeanours signalling otherwise.

Hell, I don't even agree with every single teaching, theory or philosophy of my branch of my religion of the overarching philosophical agglomeration that we recognise today as Hinduism—I'll admit I follow most of the teachings, a few a tad blindly, and I do believe in the stories and tales that seem farfetched, but without making this a debate about religion, I do sincerely believe that each tale is based on a speck of true history; each philosphy, on that which refines and glorifies life; and each moral, on previous experience.

Without further ado, a list of few of the many songs that mean a LOT to me, in order of increasing importance. The song titles link to YouTube videos of the song; the singer names, to their respective Wikipedia pages.

[A special mention must needs go to Singing in the Rain as sung by Gene Kelly, especially since, for me, at the very least, rain signifies celebration, joy, love and peace.]

    1. Just Give Me a Reason [P!nk]
    2. We Found Love [Rihanna]
    3. Mamma Mia [ABBA]
    4. Roar [Katy Perry]
    5. Super Trouper [ABBA]
    6. Glitter and be Gay [Kristin Chenoweth]
    7. Who Do You Think You Are [The Spice Girls]
    8. Don't Rain On My Parade! [Barbra Streisand]
    9. Spice Up Your Life [The Spice Girls]
    10. Defying Gravity [Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth]
    11. Aloha e Komo Mai [Jump5]
    12. Let It Go [Idina Menzel]

The last three, personally, are tied at spot one. They make me break down instantly for various, really inconsequential reasons, because in the long run feelings end up never mattering.

Sadly. my tastes are very, VERY mainstream. This is an incorrigible trait of mine. My apologies.
