A Sapphire Randomlocke

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Gist, Dec 7, 2016.

1. Hello!

I'm Gist, a newcomer to the scene of Nuzlockes. I came across the concept in a Youtube video that I happened across in my feed a while ago. Since then, I have been investigating the concept and trying to understand its appeal to the masses of pokemon players everywhere. Now that I have a kind of understanding of what's to be expected of someone running a Nuzlocke, I think that I'm finally able to run my own. That said, after talking with some friends about options that I had, I decided to choose an ultra-Randomlocke of Sapphire, my favorite version, with most (if not all) settings randomized. Most people are into telling stories with their Nuzlockes here it seems, but that's not really me, until I get more into the rhythm they require.

That said, let the spoilers ensue!

1 - Fainting is actually death. Of course.
1a - Given the hyperrandomness of the game environment, the run proper will begin after the Pokedex is obtained.
1b - If death happens during the first rival battle, it's Game Over.
1c - Dead pokemon will be boxed, not released.
2 - Only the first pokemon in any unique zone may be caught.
2a - If the first pokemon encountered dies before capture, that zone is no longer eligible for capture.
2b - Though, if there is a duplicate encounter, that may be ignored.
2c - Shinies, if encountered - may be captured, but then ignored if not first.
3 - Pokemon will be nicknamed after friends of mine.
4 - Given the hyperrandomness of the game environment, grinding will be allowed (to the player's risk, 1shots can happen literally anywhere, by anything).
5 - Only 1 visit to any unique Pokemart.
6 - Free use of consumables, as well as healing/restorative moves.
For those curious about the randomizer settings I selected,

Random:
• Base stats
• Pokemon abilities
• Pokemon types (completely!)
• Evolution paths (which are uncapped!)
• Pokemon Abilities (including Wonder Guard...!)
• Starters (completely, including held items!)
• Static encounters (completely!)
• In-game trades (completely, with all modifiers!)
• Move types, accuracy, power, and PP
• Pokemon Movesets (and having 4 moves available from level 1)
• Trainer pokemon, names, and classes
• Wild encounters
• TMs
• Pokemon HM/TM compatibility (which may mean that I could fail from the start <3)
• Field items
• Catching tutorial
Indoor running shoes
National Pokedex at start (to avoid evolution complications)
I'm fully aware that given the sheer amount of randomness that I am including in the game, I may very well not make it past the first rival encounter. However! That won't stop me from trying anyway, because Sapphire is my favorite version. Wish me luck! Will give updates of ~15 screenshots/piece.
Part 1 is now done!

Oh god, what am I getting myself into?

I don't remember Birch starting with a Gardevoir before...

And May just leaves me in the dust like chopped liver. :/

Ugh, Birch seems to always be in trouble whenever I'm just trying to do my own thing.

[IMG][IMG][IMG]
Mrrr, these aren't normal starters, not at all... This isn't even a good selection![/img]

[IMG][IMG]
Well, this one may be able to evolve later on. Wait, Zieg, I didn't know you were psychic! And that ability, are you suicidal?! And what is that moveset, good lord...

So May changed her name to Thomas without telling me, and started lifting weights. Well, if it floats her boat, I won't stop her.

Now I've got some balls for my balls pocket. <3 Now it's time to begin this run in earnest.
May's -- I mean, Thomas' Poliwhirl was difficult to kill because its bounce wasn't actually flying type and nearly 1shot me. ;_; Thankfully I got the potion from the PC in my room, so there's that.

Part 2 is here! Critcism is appreciated and encouraged. <3

Welcome to the madness, Zieg, old buddy, old pal.

[IMG][IMG]
Route 101 catch is interesting... As interesting as Zieg, actually, though I don't approve of his choice in moves.

First and last stop at the Oldale Town Pokemart! Bought an assload of pokeballs so I don't 1shot my first encounters by accident.

[IMG][IMG]
Wow! Wonder Guard on my first encounter in 103. Philo was always seemingly immune to just about everything, so I think he'd fit well here. Moves, on the other hand... Those pokeballs I bought came in handy!

[IMG][IMG]
Route 102 catch. Wait what is that accuracy on Guillotine?! Celina may be my new MVP, holy shit... (also should start screenshotting the actual capture as well, if I can)

Hmm, it seems like Veronica decided to play dressup today...

Oh hello, Groudon. Didn't know that I could encounter you in Sapphire.

Criticism is much obliged!

2. Part 3 has arrived!

Who said I know enough about catching to teach someone else?!.

This isn't a Zigzagoon...

[IMG][IMG][IMG]
Route 104 catch has arrived! Welcome to the team, Wiess!

Literally the unluckiest super effective crit that I've had thus far. I really didn't want to lose one of my friends nearly as soon as I got him...

First tombstone has been erected in the cemetery. I just wish it weren't so soon. :/

Oh hello there, Mew. This definitely isn't a normal run.

Petalburg woods capture attempt did not succeed. :(

Welp, found a Soul Dew that I'll probably never get to use.

[IMG][IMG][IMG]
Uh oh, Zieg is evolving! Hmm, I guess that doggo needed time in its shell to become ferocious.

First Team Aqua battle went pretty well.

First and only visit to the Rustboro City Pokemart. Need to load up on more pokeballs.

[IMG][IMG][IMG]
Route 116 catch (that actually has a move that matches its type). I think a firefly best suits Uzume.

Perhaps slightly underleveled for this Roxanne encounter, but I'll go ahead and try anyway! Wish me luck!

Comments/criticism is always appreciated/encouraged.

~~

Part 4 is now here.

Uzume gets 1shot by a Fissure. How many more people I know will be taken away from me like this?

[IMG][IMG][IMG]
Rusturf tunnel catch! I think that Corsola represents Falcorre. Not sure why all my friends choose terrible movesets, though.

Laid Uzume to rest. Good night, sweet prince.

[IMG][IMG]
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ). 'Nuff said.

Wait, this pokemon isn't called Nuzlocke?! My whole life is a lie!

Oh god, I need all the help I can get.

Jesus, not even my Wonder Guard Aron stood a chance. 1 move, then I had to switch, or my friends would die. I sincerely regret not grinding more.

1 down, 7 to go! Hehehehehe...

You lied to me, Roxanne... You said this was Rock Tomb...

2nd Aqua battle. Seems scared of me, but he doesn't know my team comp. ;_;

Of course, Marilyn is just cosplaying as an Aqua Grunt, anyway, so this battle should be easy, right?

Well, I guess it was. 90 accuracy Guillotine, please.

Well hello, Ho-oh.

Ooo, am I a VIP now? Oh wait...

And so our journey continues to be a delivery boy for the president of Devon Corporation. As always, comments/criticism are/is appreciated.
