    Known Lore:

'General information on tail-lessness, and who is eligible?' A comprehensive pocketbook -- Adamus Medrill, Coyote scribe. {w} -- Year 108, Month 15, Day 24. (This literary piece is approximately 100 years of age, and still holds up today.)

“By order of his lordship Nivastus III, I have re-written (for the third time) the set of rules faithful citizens must follow to properly and efficiently deal with vermin. Again -- these are not humble suggestions from your Lordship, failure to comply with any or all of these rules will be punished by the docking of the tail.

This is a widely debated subject (mainly by the peasants and tail-less themselves) and I will do my best to speak clearly.

If any persons in your familage, your control, or otherwise in acquaintance with you is dishonourable (as expressed by the list below) they are eligible for their tail to be docked.

    ****

    Dishonourable actions:

    Stealing
Murder (Unless the victim is tail-less)
Cursing or otherwise speaking ill of our lordship
    Walking without purpose after dark
Shaming your family (varies by family values)
    Goldlessness (Poverty, or otherwise.)
Refusing a task by your superior (slaves or otherwise)
    Abortion
    Gluttony
    Being a nuisance
Speaking with Tail-less (unless you have ownership)
    Procreation (with tail-less)
Addressing individuals (if you are tail-less)
Failure to attend Ceremony (For any reason)
Refusal to execute a tail-less (For any reason)
    Stupidity

    ******

    'What is the procedure?'

Generally the person(s) in question are brought to the authorities wherein their tails are generally docked immediately, however in special cases (or nobility) a court case (that lasts a day or so) will commence, in which the judges (as appointed by his Lordship) will deliberate on the evidence submitted (by authorities or otherwise) and will determine whether the tail should be docked, or executed instead.

However, for families or courtships, it is customary for the parents or guardians to be given the choice of execution instead of docking for their children (for convenience, and ease on the parents.) If this option is taken, the parents or guardians must do the execution themselves (to avoid complaints on behalf of the guardsman's methods)

Or, if the individuals have had their tails removed, they may either stay with acquaintances, family or masters as slaves to unquestionably serve them. Otherwise, they are sold on the slavery market. Price of each head is ten gold.

If, in any case, the tail-less prove difficult in any fashion (what does and doesn't count as 'difficult' is ultimately decided by the owner, no questions asked.) the tail-less may be disposed of via stoning, drowning or any other desired method.

If tail-less are found roaming in cities or an otherwise populated area (any area wherein 2 or more individuals with tails are located) they may be taken to any designated "cleansing homes" and executed without question -- it is imperative to write down all relative information on “the List.”

All rightfully transferred items are to be placed in a container somewhere in the building for pickup by a "Collecter." Whom you may not speak to EVER. Doing so will result in the docking of YOUR tail.

    'What do the shortforms mean?'

Most often, shortforms of execution methodology are named simply to make it easier on whom is scribing the list, and to add vagueness to the inevitable fate of the tail-less (so that they cannot properly prepare themselves) The methods are as followed:

Bucket: A very common method of execution involving a bucket (with the insignia of our Lord) filled with vinegar. Subjects are to have their hands and legs tied at the wrists and ankles, and their faces lowered into the bucket. At the discretion of the executioner, they may add heavy pressure to the torso region to force any excess air out to speed up the process (however this is found to be less enjoyable.)

Noose: Straightforward enough, this is the hangman's method. After the noose has been securely fastened around the subject's neck, they may be hung as per normal by removing the stool/chair/object beneath them, and their neck will snap. However, sometimes it is desired to prolong the procedure (sometimes to make an example, or to punish the tail-less by giving them an excruciating death.) To do this method, tie the noose normally, but then add a secondary rope to the ankles with a spiked block at the area of descent. This will break the spine (or ribs) as opposed to the neck, and death will occur approximately 3 days after the procedure. (usually by trauma or dehydration) It is recommended that all posted guardsmen sleep with cotton buds in their ears as prolonged hours of screaming usually follow this procedure.

Block: There is not much to be said about this procedure. It is the headsman's block and is the go to resort when execution must be done in a timely fashion (perfect for nobility who have errands to attend to.)

Hopefully this quick and simple guide may help you in your daily lives. Keep this book wherever you may need it. Its brief terminology and relatively small page count allows the reader to keep one close in hand or pocket.

    Gods and Worship

Cleron: The God of the ever-changing wind. He represents the passage of time, and knowledge, and is depicted as a green-skinned human man, or simply a gust of wind with a face. He is considered to be the father of the gods, however shrines of him are few and far between. He is said to have created the Misty Isles as a primordial landmass to bridge the magical oddities of the spirit realms. He is revered by wanderers and seers. His winds are said to be the very idea of time-passage, guiding the world with a gentle push. He is a neutral god, preferring not to interfere with the strife and discord often caused by mortals. His Clerical Domains are Wind, Travel, and Magic.

Yauron: The goddess of love, material gifts and the sun. Yauron represents bonds with people, things and the earth. She is depicted as a beautiful Vulpiness, with a decorative staff, or with a pair of scales. She is revered amongst travellers and lover alike, as her gifts come in many forms, such as kindness, good karma and material gifts. Adventurers and Merchants use her particularly in hopes of finding better items or deals, while more simple peoples may pray for successful courtships, successful harvests or ease of childbirth. Her Clerical Domains are Sun, Plant, and Good.

Moran: The god of freedom. Revered by soldiers and tail-less alike, Moran is the warrior god once-man, who rose from the filth of society and broke the chains of the oppressors. He represents defiance, confidence and individual strength. He is depicted as a Wolven man wielding a sword and shield. He is worshipped in wartime along with Gebran for their fortitude and battle prowess. Simpler men may pray to Moran for freedom from slavery, prison or fortitude to get through their lives. Morans Clerical domains are Law, War, and Strength.

Belkiet: The Goddess of nature, animals and healing. Belkiet is a stern mother of the wilds and is responsible for both the life the wilds, and death at the hands of its denizens. She is the goddess of flowers as much as she is of parasites and disease. Sickness is often believed to be contracted through angering Belkiet. Good health and successful hunts are attributed with good faith towards Belkiet. She is depicted as a Coyotess with skin made from treebark, often growing flowers or buds from her ear and fingertips, she can also be depicted as a crashing wave. Little fountains bearing the insignia of the crashing waves are her shrines, and are found throughout the wilds, but never in cities. Some may also be found in ancient ruins. These fountains carry and endless supply of holy waters – which may be used to heal wounds – for a small donation of either prayer or possession equivalent to fifteen gold. Belkiet's Clerical Domains are Earth, Animal, and Water.

Gebran: Gebran is the god of chaos, desire, and war. He is depicted as a horned feline atop a throne of nettles. His insignia is a clenched fist. He is affiliated with the outcasts of society. The downtrodden and the spiteful. Seen as an evil god, Gebran is, put simply a god of conquer. He is jealous, ambitious, but above all else; intelligent. He is has saved humanity many times beside Moran, in the great species war, in which each race attempted for racial superiority. However Moran and Gebran both understood that diversity is what breeds a successful long-term society. There have been times, however where Gebran believed his wisdom was greater than Cleron's. Even attempting to overthrow him by sowing seeds of hatred within his peers minds, in an attempt to have him cast out. It is this overconfidence and ruthlessness that paints him overall as a negative god. As such, many major cities have banned his worship. His Clerical domains are Chaos, Fire, and War.

  2. RE: The Misted Isles -- SU/OoC

    Name:Quilla Azurys
    Race: Avian (Black White-Speckled Sparrow)
    Age: 24
    Height/Weight: 5"5', 90Ibs
    Sex: Female

Occupation/Title Before Slavery Artist / Painter

    Deity Yauron

Appearance: Quilla is an Avian of average height, standing at about 5 feet and a half, with a slender form. She has black feathers, speckled with white across her neck, back of her head, her wings, and what would have been her tail feathers. Her beak is of a medium-gray tone, the same as her talons. Little bits of what can be assumed to be paint stain her feathers around the hands, from much time spent at an easel.

Short Bio: It was a day just like any other for the most part. Quilla had opened up her stand for the day, offering to paint for any whom wanted her services. She didn't make a lot of money off of the job, but it was a living. However that day, she had a bit of a special customer. One of the nobles had seen one of her paintings and thought it magnificent! She was to paint a portrait of him, so that he might be able to marvel upon his own beauty in the form. However, the noble didn't account for the time it would take to sit down for the painting, thinking it would take "No more than a few minutes, from a master painter such as yourself.". Due to this, the result came out messy and rushed. The noble proceeded to have Quilla's tail feathers docked, and sent into slavery for her "insulting work". After all, if she'll make better work for mere peasants, then that's to insult the ranking of "noble" itself!

  3. Name: Motoko Seiryu
    Race: Chromian
    Age: Early 50s
    Height/Weight: 6'2" (188 cm) 180 lbs (82 kg)
    Sex: Female

    Occupation/Title Before Slavery: Knightess

    Deity: Unknown

Appearance: Tall and lean, Motoko cuts an intimidating figure. Similar in appearance to a human, she has scales and horns that give her a draconic appearance. Her scales cover her cheekbones, jawline, and ears, back of the hands, wrists, shoulders, spinal column, feet, and hips. The scales are predominantly white in color, with flecks of light blue appearing occasionally. She has a small nose and slanted, almond-shaped eyes, with very sharp and fierce facial features. Her left eye is white, and her right eye is light blue, corresponding to the colors of her scales. Both pupils are similar to a vipers, and she has sharp, elongated teeth. Her muscles are lean and strong, her confident posture giving her a very powerful, predatory appearance. Two glossy black horns sprout from her temples, curving back gently with a slight flare upward at the tip. The right horn looks like it was smashed off with a mace or warhammer, with an ugly reddish core slowly healing over. At one point, she had a long, whiplike tail, but it has since been docked.

Short Bio: Pulled from some faraway realm, Motoko appeared on the shores of the Misted Isles, lost and confused. Ever-so-slowly she started to become integrated to the strange new society, but it all ended when she threatened a noble who was abusing a tailless. After a brawl that resulted in her arrest and near-execution, her tail was docked and she was sold into slavery, though that did not last long as she beat her owner unconscious and escaped, living in the wilderness of the Misted Isles. Eventually she was caught again, sold back into the market, and loaded onto a ship to await her new fate.
