Role-play games on the Nintendo DS

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by SecretWeapon, Nov 14, 2011.

  1. I have found a great interest in these games lately because they are fun to take around with you and are over all just good games! Vero and I have been playing Dragon Quest IX and I must say it is very addicting! I just got pokemon soul silver and I have pokemon black. What are your favorite role-playing games for the ds?

  2. By far, my favorite RPG on the DS is DQVI. Fantastic remake of a fantastic SNES game, and by far the best DQ in terms of a combined aspect of story, gameplay, and delivery. I would have said IX, but its story was quite lacking compared to the older games, so while it had by far the best gameplay and delivery of ANY DQ, it just felt lackluster with its rather boring and short story that really had few, if any, major plot twists, which are a primary mainstay of the DQ franchise.

  3. Would you recommend that I get DQVI? Even though I am in the middle of IX? It sounds like it has an impressive story!

  4. I like... totally stopped IX. I don't even know why. I think it might have been Pokemon0 B/W and Okamiden that made me just kind of... forget I guess...

  5. Pokemon games, although not specifically ds ones, (I still have a ds Lite so I sometimes play 3rd gen games) Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, plus I have one Digimon ds game, which I occasionally play (Digimon World Dusk.)

  6. Final Fantasy Tactis A2: Grimire of the Rift.
    Also Pokémon HGSS.

FFTA2 is literally quite possibly one of the best (if not THE best) RP on the DS. Honestly, the story isn't that deep, but I take great joy in just battling it out with random monsters. Probably one of the only games I care enough to play post-storyline.

Another excellent game is Chrono Trigger DS... if you haven't played the original, of course. Personally, I didn't see a need to buy it, though I'd highly recommend picking up this iteration of Chrono Trigger if you haven't given it a shot yet, if only for the bonus content. (Though I'm pissed about Frog's dialogue being neutered of its medieval charm...)

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is another excellent RTS game. Check it out for sure if you are interested in that, though I can't say that I'd play it again and again like FFTA2. Still fun.

And of course, my personal favourite, The World Ends With You. Excellent storyline, so much character depth, unreal art style, cool music, such a good premise in itself... I could literally talk for an entire post about the game, but I'll cut it short and just say buy it. Buyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyitbuyit.

  8. Hmmm Chrono Trigger sounds very intersting! Thanks for all the input guys. :)

  9. I own only dragon quest VIII and IX and even though the story is short on IX , I think they made the Grotto's in comparison. Even the extra quest (which I started a new file a while ago so I haven't beaten the game yet because of metal slime hunting :p ). I really like the story line on the Kingdom Hearts games, even though I only beaten number two (Don't own number 1 or any other for that matter).

Ah final fantasy, I love those games, I have played some on II & III, might have completed III. I finished Final Fantasy VI advance all the way to soul shrine and beat it. I love Final Fantasy X, such a good story line and level up system, I wish I could play X-2, but that's life. The last two that I played are Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (I keep on getting bored on that one) and Final Fantasy XII. All that I have to say for a summery on Final Fantasy games is that they have a great stat and music system. (I also played the FiFCC but it doesn't have the roman numerals, that's why I didn't put it up sooner.)

On Pokemon this is all I got to say, I am starting to get bored of it. Not that I don't like it anymore, it is just I would rather play an older game then the new Pokemon game. Pokemon games in my opinion are starting to get way to easy for me, even on wifi battles. On occasion though I will play Pokemon Emerald since it yields most of my favorite Pokemon in the whole Pokedex such as: Blazikin, Gardivor, (Gallade on the other Generations)and Aggron. And yes, this is my Pokemon team with some HM buddies and a pokemon that I am training.

Here is some smaller game texts I will put in. This is my opinions.
Animal Crossing (any): Great at first, but no action and it will get repetitive.
Megaman- Almost all of these games are good for a challenge and that's on easy mode. If you are really bad a quick button movement you might get killed.
Megaman Zero (1-4)- Same as above, but with Zero as a playable character.

  10. 8b agrees with me! :O

But HGSS is very fun. I am an expert on that subject, too! XD not

  11. ... What about No More Heroes? I think it's an unsung hero that deserves more praise than what it gets.

It's art style is so lovely, I literally jizz on my keyboard. :D

  12. Okay back to pokemon. Is it worth it now to go back and play the old gameboy ones after you have playes SS,Platinum, and Black? Another question is if money is no object is it worth it to get Diamond and Pearl? SS and HG? Black and White? What other pokemon games are fun?

  13. I, honestly, prefer the old ones. They were better, teams were simpler due to less choice, and it was just plain awesomer. Especially if there's a nostalgia factor.

  14. I personally prefer the older ones too. My favourite has to be Crystal, as it was the layout which has been kept in the current Pokémon games. Plus the retro, half-coloured sprites are nice in the animations too.

  15. I love everything equally (except maybe I dislike Hoenn a little bit). Major nostalgia factor in RBYGSC, and it feels wonderful to go old school. Personally, though HGSS still DOES have the nostalgia factor, even though they are almost 2 years old - they took the already amazing GSC and made it ten times more PWNSOME.

  16. What about platinum should I get that if money is no object or should I play diamond first?

  17. Get Platinum. It offers the same as Diamond // Pearl, but with better sprites, new features etc..

  18. I can't get used to the features in black o.0

  19. Black is pretty, except for a few irksome things.

    - They didn't correst te infinite trees problem. I mean, trees aren't as organised in rows and columns in real life!
    - Lack of interesting sidequests. Again, Pokémon wasn't really much known for these.
    - Some weird perspective...? I still cannot get used to Skyarrow Bridge, much as it's amazing.

Yet, it did have positive stuff aplenty. :D

EDIT: Ooh, and 8B, did you defeat Cinqueler yet? :D
I've defeated the kings individually in each of my as of yet 8 runthroughs, but I never got around to defeating them together.

  20. What keeps you interested in a game? I have the time to play I just never get the want to a lot of the time and it bugs me. Then when I do want to play it's fun. I have no idea why. Also what is Chrono Trigger really about?
