Forum Census

    In honour of the Canadian census that everyone has gotten all hype about, I feel like it might be kind of fun for us to do a mandatory census of our own, in the interests of ZEJ and Big Data™.

    Obviously we wouldn't have the boatload of questions that the actual census would have, but I feel like doing a forum-wide survey of things we're interested in, various inconsequential information about the ZEJian collective, and so on would be fun to collect, and fun to fill out. Maaaaybe possibly something akin to a more "standardized" version of Tyran's old Massive Compilation of Questions or Jonno's ZEJ Q&A thread.

    I know we have ZEJ-o-AMA for a reason, but I see this as being more of a... "yearly snapshot" or a ZEJ yearbook. Yeah. Something like that.

    Anyway, let me know what you guys think, if there are any questions you'd like to see show up on this hypothetical census!

  2. ZEJ Q&A... there's something I'd completely forgotten about from top to bottom. LOL. Woops. Anywho, I'd be more than happy to have a census like this come to fruition and hope that plenty of us would get hyped about this and contribute to it, as well, were we to have one. I have some solid questions right at the tips of my fingers to conjure on up, but would you like us to present our ideas here to encourage topic activity or to PM you our ideas so that they remain a surprise when the ZEJ Census does roll about?

    Either way, I'm up for it.   5. Sords, limbs, walri, durgs, puppers, gorillas - I'm nearly certain that all sorts of ZEJian staples will surely have a place if one were willing to pose questions memey enough. :5

  8. Ah, hey, that'd work!

    I was thinking of just having it be conducted through the forums as a "form" that each person copies and pastes, then fills out (much like how @LaTyrannia had set up her thread) but if a Google form is the desirable option I could do that too.

  10. I remember taking part in one of Rose's studies that used Google Docs and everything worked pretty nice and smoothly. I think there's a certain merit to its ease of use and clean presentation that people would find appealing. At the same time, there's appeal in getting people to rack up some actual forum posts and having ourselves a good, ol' fashioned ZEJian bash purely within our own abode. I dunno - both sound like good options. I wonder if anyone else would like to participate in this discussion and chime in with their thoughts and which route to go. :p

    If you've got questions, feel free to express 'em in this thread. I've already started building up a little repository of questions of my own creation, but this thread can double as an "interest check" and a "question generation zone." No need for secrecy~

  16. Thinking again about setting this up. Could I get a count on who would prefer forum-fill out vs. Google Form?

  17. Moved this to Miscellaneous Conjectures now that we're out of the "Suggestions" phase and into the this-is-an-actual-thing phase. I'm also going to go ahead and removed the poll -- it's been settled; I'm making this a Google Form.

    Anyway! Here is a link to the forum census. You're going to need to log on to a Google account (in order to try and discourage people filling it out multiple times, or in the name of another user, or whatever. Just don't do it. Honour system). Hopefully you all have a blast filling it out!

  20. So I figured that I'd put a post down here. We've got 15 responses on the Census at the time of this post (well, technically 16 since Shadow somehow managed to submit his twice with identical answers. But 15 unique answers, I suppose).

    I've been considering how best to put out the information gathered. Since the majority of the answers are fill-in-the-blanks / custom responses, it's not as though I can organize the data into neat little graphs or charts, but I do still think it'd be cool to put the answers on display. I was thinking that I'd put each person's answer into its own "form" and post those forms on the forums. Would that be an adequate way of showing the data?
