The Eurobeat Appreciation Thread

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by TheAuthorGl1m0, Nov 26, 2013.

  1. inb4 no one really cares about this stuff, but, it's lately become a bit of an obsession of mine. :< Just what IS eurobeat? Well... hard to explain. It's not a very strict genre, but they all follow some basic conventions. Often fast (BPM 150-160 range), energetic, and all-around feel-good, with several key components; namely, the main riff consisting of hard attack synthesizers, and the lyrics ALWAYS being sung in English.

Most of it is produced in Italy, where it was known as "Italo-Disco" back in the 80's and 90's, but sold by Avex Trax as "Super Eurobeat" in Japan. (I happen to own every single one, as it happens. XD) Even today, a few music artists in Japan, North America, and elsewhere produce some form of this music for their fans. Odyssey Eurobeat is a pretty good example of an American eurobeat label that enjoys plenty of success.

...Er, um, rather than hear me gab on about it, perhaps I should just let you have a listen to a couple of samples?

And for all you Touhou lovers out there (I see you there, yes, YOU, I'mma talking about YOU), have something a little special. :3

So, yeah. I basically started this thread so fans of this kind of stuff can gush about it. :I Post songs, discuss the new SEB releases... so on and so forth. (Or it could wither away and die instantly, like some threads tended to back when I still frequented this place.) Figured I at least try something new, since I'm back and all...

(I somehow don't expect too many people to like it, as it seems like one of the "love it/hate it" genres... :/ )

  2. Can I love you?

I started downloading all the SE albums all the way up to 200 (that's over 20 GB!), and I have all the TOHO EUROBEAT albums already (thank you, TLMC!). So yeah, I love the stuff. :p

  3. [love intensifies]

Awesome! I've already got all 226 SEB albums, the old Beat Freak SEB compilations, Eurobeat Flash, Maharaja Night HI-NRG Revolution, Euromach, Initial D... Actually, on reflection, it occurs to me that I might be more than a little obsessive about this stuff to now possess all of these. ._.

Oh well. I don't care. XD
