PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by Wonder Smash, Aug 22, 2012.

  1. I may be a Nintendo fanboy, but this game doesn't look half-bad. Sure, I don't care for 97% of Sony franchises, (The remaining 3% being Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and formerly Spyro the Dragon. :p) but the game itself looks pretty good. I quite like the idea of fused stages, and a few other things they've changed seem okay. Maybe I'll have to get it at some point, even if I'll only play as three or four characters. (Those characters being Heihachi, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and maybe Sly Cooper. :p) I'll probably lose interest when the first trailer is released for Super Smash Bros 4, though, probably next E3. :D What do you guys think?

  2. I'm not excited for this game at all. It just looks so bad to me and it's poorly veiled Smash Bros. clone and was clearly only put into development because Nintendo announced they were going to do a Smash Bros. 4. The Fused Stages don't do anythign for me. They just look like a giant mess and there is too much going on. People complain about how in Smash Bros the stages interfere with the actual match too much and that's tournaments will commonly see only the stage Final Destination being used. This game is even worse when it comes to the stages.

Out of all the characters there is only one that even interests me and that is Sly Cooper. They said this is going to be a game of Playstation All-Stars. Yet the choices of characters is just blah to me. Where the hell is Spyro the Dragon? Crash Bandicoot? No Final Fantasy characters? I'm shocked none of those are in. Its possible they are still announcing more characters but for now nothing in it has my interest.

Another major issue I have with the game is the gameplay itself. In traditional fighters you have a health bar and once that bar is depleted you lose. In Smash Bros you have a Percentage which the higher it goes up the easier it is to knock you off the stage causing you to lose. In this game you have a meter that when filled up allows you to use your Special Moves which are like Final Smashes and hitting an opponent with one of these Special Moves is the ONLY WAY TO KILL THEM IN THE GAME! And oh yeah, with these special moves it's a OHKO. What the hell is this?!

tl;dr, I think the game looks like crap and I have zero interest in buying even if I did have a PS3.

  3. Yeah... frankly, I don't think this is going to be a big system-seller like Brawl was for the Wii, or anything. I don't really know a whole lot about this game (which is probably in part due to me not owning a PS3 or any Sony console since the PSX), but from what I do know, it just strikes me as a little bit of a ripoff.

I'm not shocked that there aren't any Final Fantasy characters, seeing as FF has their own brand of fighters in the Dissidia games, but they would definitely have been a welcome addition to what is presently a pretty lacklustre lineup of characters. I do hope that Sony has an ace in the hole for this game, or else they are going to be pretty strapped to finding people to play it. It could be promising, of course, but with SSB4 on the horizon... not a whole lot of a shot for people to be speculating about the silver medalist.

I actually had no idea about the whole thing with the OHKO finishing moves... but typically that's what they are, no? Brawl had its fair share of them, and also a handful of lacking ones. But I think that this will all be balanced out nicely... or so I hope, for the sake of the game as a whole. I'll probably get to check it out at a friend's place, since he and I generally like the same sorts of games, and I know that he is a Brawl aficionado... so it's likely he'll pick it up.

But, again, I won't hold my breath for it being a blockbuster title. Prove me wrong, Sony!
