Pokemon Challenge Thread

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous Conjectures' started by The Kakuzato, May 2, 2012.

  1. Welcome to the Pokemon Challenge Thread! Here, you ma "apply" for challenges in the Pokemon games. Challenges are fun if only because they add extra difficulty to the games, and make things almost a whole new experience. Anyway, I myself only have a few challenges, but if you wish to add a challenge, you should either develop it yourself, or get help from people in the thread, and then tell them to me. I may just add it to the list!(If I say I like it and it isn't on the list in a few days, PM me. If after a few more days and it still isn't on the list, tell another mod to add it in. If it STILL isn't there... Well, then there's prbably no hope left in the thread.)

Anyway, another option you could do is combine challenges. Currently, I only have two that could be combined -- the Nuzlocke and the Monotype, which you could just do a monotype challenge with the extra difficulty of releasing Pokemon upon fainting.

Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum end after defeating the Elite 4.

Gold, Silver, Crystal, Heartgold, and Soulsilver end after defeating Red.

And I don't know enough about Black and White to really say anything about them -- other challenges I've read on forums such as Pokecommunity end it after defeating the Elite 4 twice, so that is what I will go with.

Also, if you want to try doing challenges on Spin-offs, go right ahead, I honestly don't play enough of the spin-offs to say much though ~

  2. Monotype Challenge:
    • You must use only the Pokemon of a single type for battle. If your starter is not of that type, you may use your starter until you are able to catch a Pokemon of that type.
    • No hacking, save for the following exceptions...
    • You may not trade under normal circumstances, unless it is for an evolution and nothing else.
    • If there is no Pokemon of the type you are using before you reach the second gym, you may do one of two things: Trade an on-level basic Pokemon of that type from another game, or hack in one for a starter/wild Pokemon (no hacking movesets/stats).
    • Legendary Pokemon are banned
    • HM slaves of different types are allowed, so long as they are not used in battle.
    • If your Pokemon has no way of fighting certain Pokemon (for example, Ralts has no possible way to defeat Poochyena until later on in the game), you may use another Pokemon to support it.
    • Have fun!

    Solo Challenge:
    • You may only use a single Pokemon
    • If the Pokemon you want is unavailable, you may either trade one as soon as possible, or hack one in as a wild Pokemon/starter.
    • No hacking aside from the previous exception
    • Have fun!

    Nuzlocke Challenge:
    Mandatory Rules:
    • If a Pokemon faints, it is considered dead, and you must release it.
    • You may only catch the first Pokemon that appears in each area. If you fail to catch it, then you may not have another attempt.
    • No hacking or trading.
    • Have fun!

    Optional Rules:
    • No healing outside of battle.
    • Nicknaming each Pokemon you catch (to form a closer bond_
    • Using Pokemon Centers in each town x times (You can decide this amount. Most people make this once. However, you can make it twice, thrice, whatever. I'm being lenient with this.
    • If all your Pokemon are defeated, it is "game over" no matter how many Pokemon you have in the PC.
    • You may catch the first unowned Pokemon in each area.
    • No Legends.

    N's Challenge:
    Mandatory Rules:
    • After certain landmarks set by yourself(Every Gym, every important battle, etc.), you must completely scrap your team (You can just box them, but bonus respect for releasing them), and catch more from the surrounding area. No going out of your way to get Pokemon you like here.
    • You may not nickname your Pokemon.
    • No HM slaves.
    • No Legendary Pokemon
    • No hacking.
    • No trading.

    Optional Rules
    • You may keep your starter through the whole challenge.
    • Must replace each Pokemon either type-for-type or using one of its types.
    • Have 1 legendary for your final team.

No matter what challenge you guys play, I expect updates from all of you guys. Including posting your team and any interesting things that happened. No lying now ;>

  3. Challengers and their respective challenges.
    • Cid -- Nuzlocke -- Emerald
    • Terezi Prototype -- Nuzlocke -- Red Failed
    • The Kakuzato -- Nuzlocke -- White Deluxe (Cannot actually "finish" challenge due to hack not editing post game yet.)
    • Zar'roc -- Nuzlocke --Sapphire
    • Cid -- Monotype Rock
    • Espeonature -- Monotype Ground -- Black
    • Kudamon -- Nuzlocke -- Emerald
    • Nyumi -- Nuzlocke -- Emerald Failed
    • Nyumi -- Nuzlocke -- Fire Red
    • The Kakuzato -- Monotype Normal-- Blue completed
    • The Kakuzato -- Monotype Psychic -- Fire Red Omega
    • The Kakuzato -- Monotype Normal -- Silver
    • Vero -- Monotype Psychic -- Emerald
    • Zar'roc -- N's Challenge --Soulsilver
    • Zar'roc -- Solo -- Leaf Green

  4. N Challenge

Scrap team after every gym/2nd gym/rival battle/important battle and gather new from next area
    No Legendaries
    No Hacking

None of N's (if playing Black or White)

    Decades Challenge

Pokemon level must correspond to gym's level or above (Brock 10, Misty 20)
    No Hacking

    Optional Rules:
    Hatching counts
One at a time (solo each Pokemon)

Also Doing an N Starter Forever on SoulSilver

  5. I made a couple changes to the N's Challenge, what do you guys think of them?

Also, Roxas, I would accept your other challenges, but they almost seem too difficult. For example -- the Decades Challenge. Sure, it's fine pretty much up to the third Gym, but if you think about it, isn't level 80 by the eighth Gym a bit too much? I mean, if it was a solo challenge, then maybe. I might add this as an optional rule for a solo challenge (Though then the first Gym would be incredibly difficult...)

For the event challenge, it just seems like there are too few opportunities to get new Pokemon. I mean, you'll have to have just your starter for... well, a LOT of each game. I think these just need some tweaking... or something...

Also, I guess we need the points at which the games end.

    ~~Update~~

Anyway, so I started this run before I started this thread, so I am currently in Rock Tunnel (pretty much getting my ass handed to me by those dang Hikers >_>). Only interesting thing that's happened, really, is how quickly I got a Jigglypuff. It only took me like 10 battles to encounter one outside Mt. Moon. Usually I'm out there for hours.

    Team:
    Meowth, Lv. 24.
    Scratch
    Screech
    Bite
    Pay Day

    Jigglypuff, Lv. 24
    Sing
    Pound
    Disable
    Defense Curl

    Clefairy, Lv. 25
    Pound
    Flash
    Sing
    Doubleslap

    Fearow, Lv. 25
    Peck
    Mirror Move
    Leer
    Fury Attack

    Raticate, Lv. 26
    Body Slam (TM yay)
    Tail Whip
    Quick Attack
    Hyper Fang

Then I have a level 14 Bellsprout as a Cut slave (apparently, Raticate cannot cut things in generation 1!), and a Pidgeotto in the PC. I should probably head out of the cave real quick and get it out... Though, I am thinking about replacing it with Snorlax. Fearow is, in my opinion, better in Gen 1 than Pidgeot ig only by learnset.

  6. Figured I'd give a little update. To be honest, nothing interesting has really been happening, aside from lucky type advantage hits every once in a while using Metronome. For example, an Ice Punch on a Spearow, a Thunder on a Pidgey, and an Earthquake on a Pikachu. I'm currently about to head off to Saffron for that whole quest there ~

Anyway, my team... (currently grinding them to level 40, so their levels may seem strange. Also, BODY SLAM EVERYWHERE(not really on purpose though... it just sorta turned out that way xD)

And before you ask... Yes, I need both Clefairy and Jigglypuff, if only for the lols.

    Wigglytuff, Lv. 35
    Sing
    Pound
    Disable
    Body Slam

    Clefable, Lv. 35
    Strength
    Flash
    Sing
    Metronome

    Fearow, Lv. 35
    Fly
    Drill Peck
    Leer
    Fury Attack

    Raticate, Lv. 35
    Body Slam
    Tail Whip
    Quick Attack
    Hyper Fang

    Persian, Lv. 37
    Fury Swipes
    Screech
    Bite
    Pay Day

    Snorlax, Lv. 38
    Headbutt
    Amnesia
    Surf
    Body Slam

I really do hate Gen 1 learnsets. I hate them so much.

  10. Currently at Dewford. Had a really close run on a battle, Marill got burned by May's Torchic at 6 HP and got left with ONE hit point. ._.

  11. Blue: Currently at Victory Road. Feeling so underleveled. My team's level are kinda out of whack because of grinding and all. I taught Earthquake to Snorlax, then, amidst my button mashing while grinding, I overwrote it with Double Edge. So no more Earthquake. *sigh*

    Clefable, Lv. 42
    Strength
    Flash
    Ice Beam
    Metronome

    Wigglytuff, Lv. 42
    Sing
    Pound
    Thunderbolt
    Body Slam

    Persian, Lv. 43
    Fury Swipes

    Snorlax, Lv. 50
    Double-Edge
    Amnesia
    Surf
    Body Slam

    [hr]

On FRO, really nothing's been happening. Kinda got obliterated by Misty though. So I need to grind a little... *sigh*

    Natu, Lv. 20 (Early Bird)
    Leer
    Peck
    Extrasensory
    Night Shade

    Chimecho, Lv. 20 (Levitate)

    Tackle
    Hypnosis

    Rock Throw

    Kirlia, Lv. 24 (Trace)
    Confusion
    Clam Mind
    Double Team
    Magical Leaf

    Jynx, Lv. 25 (Oblivious)
    Lick
    Sweet Kiss
    Ice Punch
    Confusion

I probably should've overwritten Lick with Lovely Kiss... *shrug*

  12. Gonna do an Emerald (emulator) Nuzlocke.

  13. This actually seems a good way to get back into Pokemon. I am going to start Monotype on Emerald (Actual Game).Let's see, I am going to go with psychic since I am going for an all Ralts team or something along those lines.

  14. Just grinding to evo before Falkner

    Chikorita Lvl 14
    Synthesis
    Tackle
    Poisonpowder
    Razor Leaf

    Sentret Lvl 14
    Tackle
    Fury Swipes
    Defense Curl
    Quick Attack

Probably gonna start a Solo Decades on LeafGreen, using either a Rattatta, Zubat, or Tentacool

  15. Question! For the monotype challenge, can a person use a dual type as long as one of the types is the type you selected? Also update!

    Just started.
    Torchic Lvl 5

  16. Yes, you may. *Insert you don't say face*

No update because I haven't played at all since my last ~

  17. Thanks!

    Update

    Torchic Lvl 10 (Sad)
    Ralts Lvl 8
Ralts Lvl 5 All abilities trace
    Ralts Lvl 4

  18. In Dewford with one badge at the moment.

    Zubat, Lv. 8 (Granite Cave)

    Leech Life
    Supersonic

    Lombre, Lv. 14 (Route 102)

    Nature Power
    Growl
    Absorb
    Bullet Seed

    Mudkip, Lv. 13 (Route 101)

    Tackle
    Growl
    Rock Tomb
    Water Gun

Magikarp, Lv. 9 (Exp. Share) (Dewford Town)

    Splash

    Marill, Lv. 12 (Route 104)

    Tackle
    Defense Curl
    Tail Whip
    Water Gun

    Tentacool, Lv. 9 (Route 107)

    Poison Sting
    Supersonic
    Cut

    Box:

    None

    Killed in action:

Silcoon, Lv. 7 (by a wild Whismur) (Petalburg Woods)
Whismur, Lv. 6 (by a Trainer's Shroomish) (Rusturf Tunnel)
Poochyena, Lv. 8 (by the same Shroomish) (Route 116)

Lost all three before fighting Roxanne, but I've since gained Magikarp, Tentacool, and Zubat.

Also, not surprisingly, Shroomish had been my bane before I obtaining my newest three.

  19. I just beat the first gym, which was a bit harder without the main pokemon. Nosepass also wiped out all of my pokemon except my new-ish Abra and one of the Ralts. So update time.

    Ralts (Zera) Lvl 15.
    Moves:
    Confusion
    Growl
    Double Team

    Ralts (Age) Lvl 14.
    Moves:
    Confusion
    Growl
    Double Team

    Ralts (Tera) Lvl 12.
    Moves:
    Confusion
    Growl
    Double Team

    Abra Lvl 12.
    Moves:
    Teleport.

Plus my level ten torchic which is starting to have no use now.

So I beat Roxanne and didn't have to use my Torchic at all, now it is time for the second gym and tons of grinding to be done at the cave (which holds so easy to beat fighting types).

  20. Not done anything on SS, but LG has a Rattata lvl 5 or 6, not sure, but nothing interesting for moves.
