    Masquerade moves to E6.

Masq didn't know what Diago was talking about at first until he noticed the shadows sifting over the beautiful light. Had Saturn really tainted the star by snatching it from the sky? "I...I guess that's a possibility," Masq spoke back, his voice faltering slightly at the thought of the enslaved star. The musician wasn't exactly sure what to think about the matter, but he moved towards the astral knight that was assaulting Clarissia as he pondered. With the power that Saturn possessed...just what else was the deity capable of exactly? Many doubts about this mission had crossed Masq's mind, but the more he witnessed, the more he realized the true difficulty of the task lying ahead of them all. More and more, the odds seemed to tip against them and in the deity's favor. They were but mortals after all. How would they be able to convince a god to forgive his people? And if things did indeed grow violent, how would they survive? Here's hoping this wasn't a suicide mission, Masq thought morbidly as he came to a stop next to the astral knight.

Masquerade uses Tension on Otul! 9 Lightning Dmg! (INT)

    MP: 10/30

The bow was directed along the strings my Masq in such a manner that the chords came out...rather sharp and short. The whole string seemed to flow together well, oddly enough, and the air around the violin wavered and crackled with what appeared to be electricity. One last note was played and a blast of lightning shot out at the astral knight from the instrument to everyone's surprise except Clarissia's. Masq wasn't worried about being so close to the warrior; he was ready to pay his price of blood in order to make sure Clarissia remained all right. The lithe dancer had managed to avoid the last blow dealt upon her, something he had caught out of the corner of his eye, but could she get lucky again? Despite all that happened, he wasn't about to risk it.

"D-don't look so worried, Masq," Clarissia actually spoke up directly to the composer. "Just needed some music to pull this out," she explained, a subtle, sad smile forming on her face as she literally pranced off, getting out of the line of fire, hopefully. Masq wouldn't have charged in the way he did if he didn't expect her to flee. Once she reached a good distance, she immediately performed a graceful spin and started to leap elegantly all around the cave. Each time her feet landed perfectly on the ground, waves of bright green light surged outwards like ripples in a pond. Leap after leap, her beautiful form flying through the air practically. It was awe-inspiring. At the end of the final leap, she spun perfectly on one leg, lowered the raised leg to the ground, and executed a humble bow which caused a huge burst of green sparkles to suffuse the air, sprinkling down upon her and her fellow ambassadors. The warmth of the soft light felt good upon her skin--rejuvenating and refreshing. It was a greatly needed salvation that would be able to keep the whole group going until the last of these astrological servants of Saturn were destroyed.

"And don't you worry too much either, Celestine. Not about me," Clarissia said to the nearby Celestine. A genuine lighthearted smile had settled quite nicely on her radiant visage. "I think I'll be fine now; we need to focus on just getting rid of these bad boys now." Even her voice sounded much happier. Maybe she was just caught in the moment, but she didn't care. Her mind was devoid of those troubling thoughts that had been plaguing her before, and that in and of itself was the greatest blessing of all.

Celestine looked on - partly in awe, and partly in confusion. Clarissia had fully dodged one of the attacks, nimble and agile, true to her lithe form. "But how can you say that?" Celestine asked, as though Clarissia's lack of concern for herself were off-putting to the young astrologist. "You're hurt..." but before she could continue her thought process, the girl had begun to twirl and spin around once again, leaping out of harm's way, before smiling at them. Her path had been followed by a myriad of green, sparkling light that seemed to warm Celestine, and surely had a similar effect on the other three as well. She felt herself slightly more at-ease, though she knew in her heart that it was no time to relax. She flipped her hair in such a way that it would be out of her eyes, and whispered a quick word of thanks to the dancer, though it would be practically inaudible over the tense, viciously electric music emanating from Masq's violin. Celestine looked at him, worriedly. The man was approaching a dangerous territory; attacking close-range did not appear to be his specialty. So why approach...?

But she realized as her heart skipped a beat. She did know why Masq had come so close to the fray. He did not need to do so, as he was perfectly capable of attacking from afar, but he chose to come closer. To draw the fire away from Clarissia. He cared so deeply for her, and yet... Celestine had chosen to rush the process on this very night. Something that should not have been rushed. She choked for a moment, stifling the tears that could very well break free of the dam that she had mentally built behind her eyes. She shook her head again, letting the very hair she had just cleared from her field of vision fall nonchalantly in front of her face once more. It did not do her well to sit here, crying in the midst of a battle that could determine their fate before Saturn. The deity that they had come to make peace with... Peace... such a far off goal... she thought, bitterly to herself. Her violet eyes were filled with despair; a painted picture of the hope that she could make things right, having turned futile in a matter of minutes. Her good intentions had faltered off upon a pathway of wrongdoing... and now it seemed that the friends she had made had a rift growing between them.

Away from her, Diago readied himself to strike at the tainted star again. He did not know how he could fight a star. Something once so beautiful, enslaved for the purpose of staving away any visitors to its master. Sickening. The only word Diago could pair to the awful phenomenon that had occurred. Masq did not seem to know whether or not his speculation was correct, but Diago could not think of anything else that could explain the darkness captured within. He raised his katana, preparing to stab at it again to purge it of its innate shadows... but before he did, two separate waves of power surged through him. Green twinkling lights came first, glistening in the air. He half-listened to the exchange that followed - it was easy to decipher that the source had been Clarissia, dancing to the tune of Masq's fittingly-strained music. Guy's got a helluva gift for setting the mood, Diago thought to himself with a wicked grin crossing his lips.

The second wave of power, however, was sourced from a different person. It was a familiar heat; that of empowerment. Astral powers from beyond... it could only be Celestine's Zodiac magic. His toothy grin widened as he felt more strength course through his body. He may not be able to eliminate the threat of the star, but he could certainly mitigate the threatening hostility of the seemingly-inanimate glowing object with the added power. He glanced over his shoulder - sure enough, Celestine stood smiling at him. It was good to see that smile. It gave him more strength than mere magic ever could. He looked back at his target, and mentally willed that she would continue to help the others if it were possible... but the violent star was his primary worry. He roared, the spirit of Leo burning strong within him, and he stabbed his katana finally through the closest enemy, before leaping away towards the hallway, a shuriken following up his first strike towards the star. A glowing laser-line of red followed the trajectory of the four-pointed metallic weapon to its mark.

    "Your move, warriors of Saturn..."

Masq groaned as the star knight's blade cut through his body, and the wound was quick to burn upon contact with the air. He winced, but the green sparkles bestowed upon him from Clarissia's dance immediately set to work on stitching up the brutal, bleeding cut, but the relief was definitely not instantaneous. Shaking off the waves of pain coursing through his body, Masq set about to growling, his bow sliding across the strings of his violin in more short, terse notes that seemed to generate more electricity in the air which was rather easy because the residual sparks still flickered into and out of existence in the airspace around him. As the notes were played in quick succession, the choppiness seemed to fade into some odd melody like it had before, charged with power. One final chord was struck, and another giant blast of electricity shot out in retaliation against the astral knight, just as it had before. I've got to be careful, even with Clarissia's dance in effect. I don't know how expansive Celestine's mana reservoir is, but it seems like she's cast a lot of magic so far, the musician thought, coming to the decision to hold his ground. He had already endured one cut, so surely another wouldn't be beyond his threshold of pain tolerance. Better get used to it because I'm sure there will be more to endure as we progress through the Pinnacle.

"Are you holding up well, Celestine?" he offered the young woman next to him. She had evaded physical harm so far, and really, he preferred that it stayed that way. He didn't care for Clarissia getting hurt either, but with the way she fought, it was nigh impossible. Always so close to the fray, ribbons flying and feet kicking left and right. Her movements were always so graceful, and they shined that much more when he played his music. Matches made in heaven aren't always as they seem, he thought and laughed in his mind, keeping his concerned composure until Celestine answered his question. By the looks of things, the battle was almost over, and then they would all be able to rest.

    Masquerade waits.

    Clarissia moves to D4.

"I won't be hurt for long," Clarissia chimed as she noticed that her dance had went spectacular, and now not only her, but the others as well were enjoying the benefits of recovery. It might have ousted the last bit of her mana, but it was a wise decision. Now it was time to leap back in and fight once more. It would be a further waste of the blessing Celestine had bestowed upon her. She took a few steps forward and swung an arm through the air causing the ribbon attached to suddenly go taut, slamming into the astral knight with any luck. She pulled her arm back and the ribbon went limp, wavering slowly in the air as a slight draft persisted throughout the cavern. A struggle. That was what this was going to be. Should we succeed, a lot of lives will be saved, she thought, keeping her cheerful demeanor, but her mind was certainly falling to the side of misery. And one heart will remain broken...

The young woman blushed slightly, cheeks tinting from a healthy - if mildly paled - flesh tone to a deeper shade of crimson. It was... generous of Masq to even offer his concern to her. Especially after how she had set him up for failure just hours before... She could not bear to turn and meet the man's eyes, despite the rudeness of the matter. She tilted her head a little bit, so that her voice would at least carry to his ears. "Yes... I'm okay. A little weary is all..." when she spoke, it sounded meek and forced - surely not at all reassuring to the man... but she hoped he would find some level of solace in her words, useless as they may be. A haunting thought crossed her mind, Useless. That's all I am to Masq... and to Clarissia... she now looked back at the dancing girl, still bouncing about with the incredible poise that she always seemed to have about her. Even after everything tonight... even after being viciously attacked...

It pained Celestine to look at her friend... if Clarissia would even accept such a suggestion of any sort of bond of friendship between the two. No, Celestine would have to right her own wrongs in time... She blinked, wishing she could do something to help... but her own Mana reserves were dangerously low. Her channelling of the star spirits had simply drained her... far faster than she had initially anticipated. She attempted to lock eyes with Diago, silently willing him to protect Clarissia, and to be okay himself... his body was scorched from residual scathings - the Light Mana that was released so powerfully, so unexpectedly from the star that he had assumed had been tainted by Saturn's own influence... More and more, Celestine felt that she could understand why the Sinerians had turned away from the deity. If he was as power-hungry as Diago had assumed, then what was going to stop him? Their water supplies... their stars... is nothing safe from him? She could not answer her own question. Immediately, the image of the young Sinerian playing along in the lake... the serpent towering above, and the ensuing, petrified shriek. How many attacks had there been before the first time they met Masq and Clarissia, on that fateful night not so long ago...?

Determinedly, Celestine stepped forward, holding her aromatic bouquet of flowers in front of her. She inhaled sharply, taking in a slight breath of the bundle. It soothed her nerves, but more importantly, she began to channel an empty, hollow burst of energy in the direction of the darkened orb of light. She locked her eyes into its very core... its presence was unnerving to her. She was well-versed in the stories of the stars. Their power, their arrangements... Enslaving the stars... she thought to herself, a mere fragment of a bigger image that panned out in her mind. A world that could not see the stars. A barren wasteland of a night sky - the sheet of blue that immersed and enticed so many, no longer dotted by the stars to guide anyone home. "No..." she said aloud, interrupting her own vision. "NO!" Louder, ever-more determined, she released the energy in a slight burst, as its glimmer was barely seen travelling at a rapid speed towards the guardian... she hoped it would be enough to eliminate the tainted essence that plagued it so. She aimed not to kill, but to release. To purge. To set free...

Diago, however, had another agenda. He blazed with a torrent of passion. Masq's electrifying tune was getting him amped up for the fight. He was fuelled by the thrill of the fight, and Celestine's blessing coursed through his veins, setting them alight with an incredible luminosity once more. He tested his weapon, making sure that the katana would not break if he swung it too hard, analyzing the battle for a moment from his standpoint... before he noticed Celestine approaching the star that had been plaguing him the entire duration of the encounter with Saturn's welcoming crew. "Celestine, no!" he shouted, urging her to back up... but her window of opportunity to do so was closing. Diago could do nothing more than grind his teeth together, throwing a single shuriken at the mass of barely-tangible light. The increasingly-familiar trail of red, vibrant energy noted the trajectory of the shuriken, and when Diago was certain it was headed in the right way, he turned to his allies... and the remaining star warrior, being swarmed by the group. Despite Celestine's good intentions, Diago was solely focused on protecting her. Keeping her away from all potential harm... and if the star wasted itself away in service to Saturn... It should've gotten and stayed the hell out of my way.

The threat of Clarissia also returning to harm's path was equally unappealing. Diago grimaced, hoping that she knew what she was heading into... but thankfully, the back of the warrior was to him. He had the vantage point to strike at it from behind, before it would notice his presence. A shadowy look crossed over his violet eyes... Hell... it'll be just barely enough to distract it from Clarissia... He didn't know whether or not this ambush would work out in the favour of the dancer, but he certainly hoped that she would be able to nimbly dodge it and strike. The katana fell in a forceful, vertical strike down the back of the star warrior, leaving the red remains of the imbued slash evident on its back for a brief moment. Satisfied, Diago looked over the star warrior to Clarissia. "Careful, Clarissia... don't let it get too close to you." He feebly grinned at her, as though trying to reassure both himself and her that things were going to be over soon... And silently, he truly hoped they were getting closer to their goal.

Masquerade uses a basic attack! Hits Otul! 7 Dmg! (INT)

Pleased to hear that Celestine was all right, it didn't take him long to realize that had to have been a facade. There was definitely something off about the woman, but he wasn't sure what it could be. Is she picking up on the tension between me and Clarissia? I thought we were hiding it pretty well... the composer thought to himself. He supposed that underneath their meager interactions, there was a thick layer of melancholy. It didn't occur to him that it would be that palpable, and he didn't wish to plague his other two companions with the dilemma that he brought upon himself. That's when it occurred to him, as his bow met his strings, that Celestine might be blaming herself for what had happened, since it was her that gave him the courage to finally admit his feelings for Clarissia through words instead of just music. She must have seen what had happened from afar, he thought, each and every word bitter in his mind. She didn't have any fault in this matter. At the end of the day, it was his choice to take her advice. If he had declined, everything would have been perfectly fine, but he had to be a brazen, reckless fool and dash straight into the depths of love, only to wind up stabbed in the back, his heart bleeding internally. The crimson essence would drown his soul in sorrow, but all wounds healed with time. Heartbreak doesn't have to be forever. Masq knew that for a fact; this wasn't the first time he had his heart broken, not to mention he wouldn't give up on Clarissia. Just because she didn't want a relationship with him now didn't mean that she wouldn't want one later. He would have to be the best friend he could, just as he had been before. There was no reason for this minor rejection to cleave a rift in the otherwise joyful feelings they had for each other, even if they weren't exactly feelings of love.

The note resounded as Masq slowly slid his bow across the strings of his violins sending out a shock wave that buffeted the remaining astral knight. He took a deep breath, noting that the thing was barely hanging on. It would take just a bit more, and he wondered who would take charge and finish it off. Glancing to the side, he gave a nod to Clarissia who reciprocated the gesture in turn. So it seems... Masq lowered his violin with a bittersweet smile. He was a bit more tired than he cared to be, and he knew an awkward rest was coming. They all would need it before moving deeper into the Pinnacle, for there was no telling what else Saturn had in store for them.

    Masq waits.

Clarissia attacks Otul! 8 Dmg! (ATK)

Clarissia received the note from Masq to go ahead and put an end to this abomination, a warped knight which appeared to be rent from the night sky itself. Wasting no time, Clarissia lifted her ribbon into the air, and at the pinnacle of its own ascent, she brought it down, the fabric tightening and becoming firm such that it smashed into the knight mercilessly, bringing it to its knees before effectively subduing it, its body falling upon the ground. She swung her arm back sending the ribbon jetting back into her grasp after which she let it fall slowly down, dangling in the air. It was over, but she didn't know whether to rejoice in this moment or not. Sure, they were alive, but she felt a sense of dread weighing down on her shoulders, and it was almost painful to move. She remained quiet as silence swarmed in since the action had subsided.

    Clarissia waits.

  6. A few moments passed before Masq finally, but hesitantly lowered his violin and bow, somewhat suddenly dumbfounded by what had transpired. He shouldn't have been surprised to be met with resistance; he had already proclaimed that he had knowledge of deities and their tests, but the battle somewhat took something out of him, not to mention all of what he had been forced to endure that night. There seemed to be an unspoken agreement between him and his new comrades that said that they would get some rest before pressing forward. Celestine for one had voiced her own weariness. They had all been subjected to a long day of travel, and just when they thought they'd be able to relax, they were thrown into the chasms of chaos as the Curse Serpent struck, marking the start of their journey to speak or possibly defeat Saturn. Masq felt dizzy and he fell to his knees, taking the case off of his back and producing a clean white cloth from within. "How is everyone feeling?" he called out to the others, his voice echoing against the cavern walls. It was an obligatory question that needed to be asked. He still felt the sparkles around him healing his minor wounds, and the spell apparently lingered on everyone else as well, though he didn't think anyone had been banged up too terribly which was a godsend. In turn, that was ironic considering they were about to engage a god in combat, but that was the last thing Masq wanted to think about at the moment. He was still kinda dizzy, so he settled himself cross-legged on the ground with his violin in his lap, taking the cloth to it in order to wipe down the body. It was just to give his hands something to do because despite being so unbelievably tired, he was also somewhat restless--almost as if he was in a hurry to get this mission over and done with.

"Can't complain over here," Clarissia responded loudly enough for her friend to hear, not wasting any time in taking a seat on the stone ground of the cavern. It was cool and luckily dry. She knew some caves could be awfully damp. Looking around, there wasn't really anything to catch her attention. The light of the torches somewhat accentuated the cavern hall, kind of making her wonder what lie farther within. At the same time, she was afraid of what they would encounter, granted nothing could be more frightening than confronting an angry and betrayed god. The reason why her eyes sought something to gaze at was because she didn't want to look at Masq who she felt she had betrayed. It was here that she felt tension the likes of which she hadn't felt in what she believed to be a lifetime. Making conversation would be nice, but she wanted to give time for Celestine and Diago to get settled. Her eyes flitted over to Masq for a mere second to see that he was keeping himself busy while waiting for replies from his compatriots. She absently played with the ribbons that she had used to pummel the astral foes that Saturn had pitted them against. She wondered if those beings had been sentient. If they were, they certainly didn't waste any words on them. It was almost a shame. Almost. It's not like they would have anything worthwhile to say, she thought idly to herself. Maybe they would have given us Saturn's super secret weakness or something. That thought made her smile a bit. Just a glimmer of humor in the overwhelming darkness of their situation.

  7. As Clarissia brought the final hit upon the astral soldier summoned to guard Saturn, and Masquerade's playing ceased, silence fell upon the vast cavernous space of the Pinnacle. Nothing but the sound of heavy breathing from Diago could be heard for many moments as the blood pounded in his ears and the mild grin faded from his visage. The silence was deafening for him, as he felt the world spinning before his eyes in his exhaustion. He knelt down for a moment, in an effort to catch his breath, feeling as though he could keel over right there. This is what I wanted, though... he thought, idly, My life of adventure, just starting... He looked up from his brief mental haze, seeing that Masq had similarly taken to a crouch, presumably as a courtesy to him and Celestine, who had spoken of her fatigue just a few moments before... Before she decided to rush into the battle. Diago completed his own thought with a trace of frustration. His face contorted into a mix of some sort of pain and consternation. For now, though, he had to realize that everything would be alright...

He realized he had been blankly staring at Masq without responding to his question, and in response, the man had started to polish his violin with what Diago presumed to be a cloth dedicated to cleaning the instrument. "Wh-whaa...?" Diago stated unintelligibly, before righting his mental self, "Oh... yeah. Fine, here. Just gotta get my second wind." He chuckled, as though trying to make light of the situation. He hoped that, other than his lacking response time, nobody would pick up that he was maybe, maaaaybe a touch more than a little tired... It would do them no good if any further guardians of the God were to detect any sign of weakness in him. He rubbed his eye with a closed fist, staring at his skin as the sparkles that had spawned from Clarissia's elegant bounding finally started to fade. "Thanks again, Clarissia," he said, loud enough for the girl to hear. In spite of everything having silently happened - the gravity of which the rogue did not quite yet understand - it was incredibly generous that she had risked her safety to cast some sort of magic through her dance to save them...

As Celestine looked over at Masq again, it seemed that he had been eyeing her with an air of perplexity. She averted her gaze instantly, not wanting to meet the man's eyes. And how could she... no, how dare she attempt to meet the composer's stare? The shame kept coming back to haunt her, like the waves rippling on the shore of Rizen-dae. She let out a wavering sigh, the exhalation mingling with the dank cave air, creating a shaky breath that was a little more emotion-filled than she intended. She tried to smile, feebly wandering over to where Clarissia was leaning against the wall, between lit torches that danced in a fiery imitation of the dance that the girl had just moments prior been dancing. Passionately and beautifully... The girl was brave, she was concealing her emotions quite well. Presently, however, she was absently playing with her ribbons, likely to keep her distracted. Celestine croaked out an almost inaudible, "You... were fantastic." A sentiment that did not put her full opinion into words. But it was clear that Clarissia was not going to mince words at this point, at least. So Celestine stared, idly watching the cavern, tracing the dancer's own gaze with her eyes. She seemed to be ready to move on.

More moments passed in silence, as Diago picked himself up off of the ground. He walked over to Masq and offered his hand to lift the man to his feet, with a wordless nod. He tried to meet the composer's eyes, trying to glean any hint of what was going on behind his face - betraying nothing to Diago. The rogue bowed his head, before looking over to the girls. "Guess we should move on, then. If nobody has any problem with that...?" He plucked his katana out of its sheath again, but stowed a shrike that he had been holding onto. The placed the katana gingerly on his shoulder, allowing for a strike to be ready at a moment's notice... But surely Saturn would have accepted their strength...? Better have. Diago thought, We're here for peace. Not to fight off his cronies. Without looking back, he slowly started off on a path down the mouth of the Pinnacle's cavern, staring the ambiguous torchlit maw down as far as he could see. It would not do him well to linger around, not when the night was already so long. The Sinerians needed them. Two Curse Serpent attacks in as many days... and countless others beforehand. The God was certainly an interesting character, from what little Diago could gather...

Celestine kicked off from the wall she had leaned her weight on, standing upright. She wordlessly started off after Diago. She felt as though she were in a trance. As though the entire night had not been real. The surreal entrance to the Pinnacle had to have been the entrance to a dream. The entire day... everything had been alright until now. Her heart sank knowing that she could not be right. The pain... the emotion... everything was so real. And now Diago was leaving her too... the night was not improving. Not one bit...

  8. "You're welcome," Clarissia had responded so kindly to Diago.  The fact that she could have been able to help in the way that she had was enough to definitely brighten her mood despite the events that had taken place that evening.  A fierce rejection.  A frightening encounter.  A strange ascension.  A horrible welcoming party.  It call came down to Saturn and the trouble he was causing, granted the Sinerians themselves held some of the burden of blame.  If none of this had happened, then maybe things would be better between her and Masq.  Sure, they were kind enough to each other, and they were still friends, but there was this void of hurt and tension between them that threatened to grow and grow until the gap became too large and they would grow apart.  Funny how such a good facade they could put on, but nothing would ever be the same, not like she expected things to last forever anyway.  It was the whole feeling she had gotten in the first place--the one that told her not to get attached which inevitably led to her following it and rejecting Masq's admission of love.  It was true that her heart yearned to just leap into the pool of passion and become enveloped in Masq's arms...just once.  However, that was not going to happen.  The damage she had dealt with that blow to his heart was irreversible.  She refused to lie to him by saying that the feeling had gone, and with him knowing that the feeling was there, he would surely be distant even if they were in a committed relationship.  At the end of the day, it was just not meant to be, and that was about that.

Masq gladly took Diago's hand and allowed himself to be helped up, making sure to keep a tight hold on his violin in the process.  He bent over and picked up the case, stashing the instrument within before slipping his arm through the strap for convenient carrying as always.  "I'm ready to go, even if a bit tired.  Maybe we'll be able to get more substantial rest somewhere along the way..." he said, his voice unsure.  As far as he was concerned, they were in enemy territory, completely at Saturn's mercy.  It was surely getting later into the night, and they had already been through a whole day of traveling, not to mention the festivities and the like.  It wasn't like they were going to be able to get a peaceful rest regardless--not in a place like this where their lives are constantly at risk.  They'd literally have to sleep with one eye open...or take turns keeping watch or something like that.  He noticed Clarissia had managed to stand and was skipping off ahead.  Everyone was ready to go, or so it seemed.

As set as they were going to get for the moment, the group meandered off along the cavern, aiming to proceed deeper into the Pinnacle in an attempt to find Saturn's throne.  The monotonous path lit by the torches on the wall betrayed nothing.  All was simple--almost hypnotizing.  However, the normalcy was interrupted quite quickly by the sound of menacing growls coming from farther up ahead.  There was no doubt that they were not done with Saturn's supposed trials of their strength and resolve.  Rushing forth, the group came face to face with nothing but a behemoth, its massive hulking form standing before them on four legs.  It had a light brown hide with a darker brown fur on the ankles and about the neck.  Black runes were painted all over its body, slight patterns even being found on its menacing fangs.  Glowing crimson eyes stared down at the group of four as if looking at its dinner.  Quick to join the skirmish were two more astral knights, their nondescript blades at the ready to defend the Pinnacle at all costs.

  9. {Diago starts at I2}
    {Celestine starts at H1}

With nothing more than a largely unceremonious "You're welcome," from Clarissia, Diago returned a curt nod and a half-smile, not out of any sort of an attempt to be rude or spiteful, as he saw just how hollow and distant she had seemed even in the fight. No, Diago's response was one merely out of exhaustion. The night had been incredibly tasking - on all of them, to be certain. While he was still unsure exactly what had happened between Masq and the dancing girl, he knew something was amiss. They would barely meet one another's eyes... nobody seemed willing to hold the gaze of any of the others', let alone any sort of conversation. Diago sighed. It seemed the life of adventure he had been searching for was off to nothing but a rocky start, anyway...

Finally, however, Masquerade dignified his hanging question with a response. He was ready to move on, as well, after having been lifted to his feet by Diago. "Rest would definitely be good to have, at this point," Diago agreed to the obvious with him, "I know we are all exhausted, but it seems like we're not quite done yet." He smiled, weakly. The words of a leader escaped him. He wasn't about to pretend that he could cut away the tension that yet hung in the air, even after the last battle's conclusion. Nobody was in a mood for conversation, so he averted his gaze from everyone. He wasn't going to falter at this point in their journey together. Celestine needed him to be strong and unwavering, so unwavering he would be. With a heavy-hearted sigh, he trudged onward through the cavernous tunnel of the Pinnacle. Not a whole lot left that I can say, anyway... he thought to himself.

The flickers of the eerie torches that lined the walls taunted him behind his eyes, as though there was something lurking along the edges of the cave. But every time he looked, he realized that it was nothing more than a trick of his eyes, and that he had merely been imagining things all along. But resting my eyes is not something we can afford right now, he ultimately determined. It was a luxury, and with the lives of Sinerians - children, at that - on the line, how could he think of something so selfish as a moment's reprieve? The internal bickering of the group seemed so... inconsequential in comparison to the troubles that he had heard of in their brief time together. He couldn't get the image out of his head of the small, Sinerian child standing trembling in the waters before the Curse Serpent. If it hadn't been for their combined efforts with those of Rick... Diago didn't even want to think of the alternatives.

Following at a slight distance, Celestine struggled between her trance-like state of mindless following, and battling the tears that threatened to well up in her eyes at any second. She looked down with a mild amount of shame. She didn't want to talk to Masquerade, since she felt as though she had wronged him. It was a bitter feeling, and his music had almost coaxed an even more painful feeling out of her. The music he played, for Clarissia. And their friendships, which had started off on such a good note... well, they seemed to be strained. Strained like the strings played by his bow. She wanted to cry, and she wanted support... but she had nobody to go to but herself. Come on, Celestine. Wake UP! she internally commanded herself. She could not stand being so weak. She would not be one of those girls. One who could not survive without investing themselves fully in another. She stopped for a moment, letting everyone else pass her, and choked out a sob, while staring at the torchlight lining the walls.

She inwardly wondered whether Saturn had the power to make people this miserable. He had certainly been doing a good job of it, if he had...

The mouth of the tunnel they had traversed opened up into a much larger chamber, one that was equally ominously lit by the same static torches. It felt as though they had been walking for a long time. This troubled Celestine, as she also felt that they had made no progress. No words spoken between them since the conclusion of the battle. She heard growls ahead of them, and trembled a little bit. By the time she had caught up to the others, however, it seemed that they were already prepared to engage the monstrosity that stood before them. She wiped her eyes, hiding them in her bouquet of flowers. "W-well... how are we planning on taking this... this beast down?" she managed to stammer out, sounding much more timid than she had intended. The behemoth was nothing short of a terrifying sight to her. Its crimson eyes menaced them, as though it were prepared to deliver them to its master. She shuddered at the thought, and tried to maintain her resolve. Whatever happened, she knew she would be able to rely on her allies.

"Saturn definitely seems to know how to pick his guards," Diago spoke, nonchalantly and emotionlessly, in answer to Celestine's question. Running past the monster did not seem to be an option; its hulking form was much too massive to pass by, and it had more of the star warriors immediately flanking it. "My best guess is we take the direct approach." through clenched teeth he dryly said. Not that they really had any other options, anyway. He was not about to let this be their end... the night was already bad enough. Saturn's guards would not break him. This much he was sure of. They would not die here. Too much was riding on this night coming to an end for him to let the atmosphere get to his head.

    Player Phase 1!

    Masq moves to D1.

A direct approach. Saturn had ensured that would be the only way to handle this. Looking around the area, there was nothing they could really use to their advantage. They were trapped in a direct confrontation. Masq sighed and took a few steps away from his original position, turning to boldly face one of the strange knight creatures in his line of sight. It appeared menacing enough, but Masq was not afraid. Fear was not something he could register. Even the hulking behemoth with its bulging muscles was enough to deter him. It roared loudly but he did not quake. It would stomp the ground with a massive clawed foot and he did not tremble. He was just focused on that one knight. Raising his violin to its resting place upon his shoulder, he took the bow and ran it across the strings rapidly creating powerful blazing notes. Fire glimmered in his eyes, and as he saw flames, flames spurted into life and coursed through the air with reckless abandon until they wrapped around the knight in the distance in a crackling embrace. The music stopped and the flames dissipated shortly after that. The damage he intended to deal had been dealt, and the music he played would make it easier for Clarissia to cast her skills. The thought of their synergy made him cringe and his heart pained like it had before...just when he thought that it might have subsided for a long while. No...this pain would never subside fully.

This was going to be something he would deal with for the rest of his life. Perhaps Saturn would do him a hefty favor and erase him from existence. He shook his head vigorously. Stop that talk right now. I won't turn back to that. I won't let this take me down that road I've already visited once before...! Masq clutched his head. The memory was too much. He had been through this before with his past love. Had his heart broken. The feeling was all too familiar. A feeling of pain. A feeling of helplessness. A feeling of despair.

A feeling of him wanting to die.

    Clarissia moves to D3.

Clarissia wasn't completely unafraid like Masq, but at the same time neither would she falter. She wasted no time in dashing in after the flames had vanished, lashing out with her ribbon against the knight, granted she realized it didn't have too much of an effect--not like Masq's attack had anyway. It made her feel helpless. She used to be strong. Against the creatures back in the areas around Cordan, she was powerful beyond compare. She could stomp them down with her dancing alone, and when she teamed up with Masq, she became even stronger. His music empowered her dancing making it easier for her to dance more. She felt the vitality in his melodies and it inspired her to dance. It still had that effect now, but every time she would hear a note played from his violin, she felt the pang of guilt rip through her being. She drew back her ribbon and held it loosely in her hands. How could she fight like this? How was he keeping so calm? How could he be so strong? How could she not love someone like him? Someone so great and loving and caring and charming and...and... Tears welled up in the girl's eyes but she would not cry. She could not cry. It would be embarrassing to do so in the midst of battle. She didn't want the others to see, Celestine in particular. Celestine had seemed to put some personal stake in this...happening between her and Masq. All she wanted was for everyone to be okay and yet look at them. None of them were okay. Would they ever be okay again?
